I was searching for a place to bless my wife for Christmas. I had no idea where to look...ROCA's website was very helpful and Laura was a professional at walking me through my options.
If my wife is as pleased as I am, I will be a HERO and not a zero :)

I recently moved from Lawrence, KS to Kansas City...where I had the same stylist for 10 years! I was very nervous about finding a new stylist and decided to try Joey based on reviews from this site. I was not disappointed!!! He did a fabulous job with my hair!!! I recently cut bangs and I love them. I am constantly getting compliments about my "new" look. Thanks Joey:)

I have been searching for a truely good stylist in KC for a while. Recently I heard from a friend about a guy named Joey at Roca Salon, and from what I had been told he did a great job with my friend. I made an appointment and got a cut and highlights, and they look fabulous! Not only did he do a good job, but he actually creates conversation and makes the experience fun. Since i have gotten them done, I have had nothing but compliments. Its just crazy how something like a great cut or color can make you feel so great about yourself. I will definitely be back to see Joey again!!! I'll be passing the word on through my group of friends for sure!

Why write a review? Most of the time it is completely irrational and just a bunch of emotions that aren't necessary.
I decided after reading all the reviews to go ahead and make one as contradictory as it seems.
I actually got the chance to meet a stylist from Roca and he is fantastic! He had nothing but great things to say about the place so I decided to go in and get my hair done.
It was truly fantastic my hair is ridiculously long and curly and he did a great job.
However, with all good things there is always a negative not that this should necessarily turn people away. I am obligated to say in my opinion some of the service providers do need to work on professionalism. It is astounding to see that there are responses to the negativity on this website as well. I believe that it is near to impossible to make everyone happy but from a business standpoint you should not respond with criticizing someone who is making a response to your business. Instead you should work to keep that person happy. Its now been published on the internet for people to see the professionalism standards that you set.
Again I must say the service providers are truly talented just need to work on professionalism

I switched to Roca because my stylist, Jenelle Huppe, transferred there. Her services were and are great. What I didn't care for (and tried to overlook MANY times) was the lack of professionalism by some of the staff. I'm all for people liking where they work, and feeling comfortable. But when the staff talks about their evenings' plans, a bad break-up, or how "fat" they are, it's pretty unappealing, especially if they're talking to a client's stylist while the stylist is doing the client's hair. (And the young lady who complained of being fat was in NO WAY such, which I'm sure made many female clients self-conscious.) This kind of chatting occurred almost every time I had an appointment. When I received a manicure, the technician answered her cell phone THREE TIMES during my manicure, then proceeded to place it in her bra for "storage" while she worked on my nails. Her implements looked very dirty, as did the solution they were stored in (you could see debris floating around in it.) The last straw was having to watch the receptionist eat her sandwich while sitting on a pedicure footrest as I got the manicure. (No break room?) Honestly, I gave Roca a try several times. I'm not a snob, but I do value my hard-earned money, and I want to spend it in a place that makes me feel like I'm treating myself. Plus, leaving Roca means leaving Jenelle and finding a new sytlist, which I've done, but was not what I wanted to do.

We had a few issues with the services received, but management promptly resolved our complaints, making the overall visit satisfactory.

Lower-level staff members can't be perfect all the time, and everyone makes mistakes. Having management that cares about a customer's happiness is refreshing!

Joey made my hair look and feel great without doing anything too dramatic. I am working on getting my hair back to a lighter color, (it's currently black) and he put in highlights that don't make me look like a skunk. I would recommend him to everyone and I will be back in as soon as I can but unfortunatly even with his lower rates I still can't splurge on getting my hair done :( Go see Joey and you will understand and go back to see him every chance you get!!!

I've been in Kansas City for almost a year and was so hesitant to find not only a new salon, but a stylist I could be comfortable with. I live close to Roca, and I had seen their signs advertising their Best-in-class ratings, but it was the client feedback I read online that made me decide to set up an appointment.

They got me in within the week with Curtis, who was everything I could have hoped for in a stylist. He was professional, easygoing, meticulous, non-critical (even though my hair was all mousey when I came in), and didn't rush the job. I told him I just wanted to look saucy, and did I ever. My hair is so much easier to manage now that it's been Curtisized. I will most definitely be back at Roca.

I have been going to ROCA for almost two years. The end product (my hair color, cut, & style) is better than most I've had in previous years with other stylists. I love my stylist and most of the staff, however, I find it interesting that the owners (who appear throughout my session talking to other stylists and whatnot) come off as very catty and full of themselves. This is confirmed by the responses to the posters that are put on here and the constant reminder that they were voted "Best Highlights by CitySearch". I mean, what does that really mean, anyway? The bottom line is that they do a "good to slightly better than most" job here and you probably pay a little too much for what you could basically get elsewhere for about 30% less. I adore my stylist, though, and will continue to come here...until I get a nasty reply from the owners, I guess ;)

I have had hair locs extensions for 2 years with great success! When we moved to KC I found that Rhonda does this type of extension. I ordered additional hair from her and had her do my first lift. I immediately began to experience tangling and outright knots in my hair. I have never had this experience before so I called her. She could not squeeze me in before my next scheduled apt two weeks out. Then, just a week before my next apt she called and told me that she's never had a complaint about her work before and wanted to cancel me as a client! She has never seen my hair since that first day! To not stand behind your work is the most unprofessional thing to do. My opinion, don't waste you time - if you want professional work and an honest person with integrity to stand behind it, look elsewhere!

I found this salon online and didnt have the funds for a huge ticket for highlights and a haircut so I tried the apprentice Joey. He was so nice and funny and made me feel relaxed. We talked about what I wanted and I got my color and a great cut. If he needed help there was always someone to help him. Its like a school but way better. The salon is so fun and people seem really welcoming and down to earth. plus he did my makeup afterwards and gave me a smokey eye so i could go out with my friends. If you dont have a lot of money and are willing to let someone "practice" on you this is a place to go!!!

A visit to ROCA Salon and Day Spa is truly an enjoyable, satisfyiing treat no matter what services you experience. I have been going to ROCA for many years and have been immensely satisfied and totally refreshed after each visit. Personally, I have a facial, hair cut and color each time I visit. Lacey Cavner gives me a facial that canot be topped, she takes you away from your everyday existence to a wonderfully magical place where you can dream, meditate, fantasize or just enjoy the unique service she provides through her facials; they are absolutely outstanding and something that I look forward to with great anticipation each month. Rhonda Cavner has done my hair cuts and color for several years and I would not trust to go to anyone else. Rhonda knows exactly what color looks best on me and always gives me a flattering cut and style. Rhonda is a very artistic person with a great flair for style; whether it be in hair design, home interior or her great sense of personal style. Roca Salon is easily accessible from all areas of town and the salon itself is a unique experience; the decor is lively and fun! Their "menu" of services provides something for everyone and I'm sure whatever services you treat yourself to; you will be totally pleased with the end result. So, do as I do, treat yourself to a day at ROCA Salon and Day Spa, you'll be so happy you did!

This is my first review but I have to say, OMG I have finally (after 10 years) found a Salon that I love! Rod does an awesome job wth my color. Oz does amazing things with long hair. I travel from Overland Park & pass many Salons to get to them. They are a bit pricey, however I do not think going cheap is an option when referring to your hair. I have tried so many stylist in & around Overland Park & was not pleased with anyone, at best they are just ok. I have never found one salon that I like for cut, color & style. They make you feel great about your hair before you leave which is the way it should be. I have had many horror stories with color in the past 10 years and I was very nervous about having someone new. Now I look forward to each appointment. I know it is going to look great. They are all so nice & try to make it a good experience. I would like to see later hours for those of us who have to work & monthy specials for cuts ,color etc.

Yes, I'm cheap but who isn't these days? When I first went to Rhonda several years ago I knew the price going in and was apprehensive. BUT, after that first appointment I was hooked! The cut and color was amazing. What I really liked was she took the time to tell me what would look best with my face shape and hair type. She didn't let me do something that she knew wouldn't work. Like I said, the color was amazing too. She knew the color that would work best for me and made me feel confident it would look beautiful. Which it did!
The staff is very friendly and for an upscale salon, you don't feel as though you have to dress up or even wear makeup to get a haircut/color. I feel very relaxed there even though it is definitely upscale. All staff members are great; offering a drink or magazine and some conversation. They just make you feel very welcome and at ease.
Their product line is awesome too. It can be pricey also but it lasts forever! They will tell you how to use it, how often and even the amount to use. They take time with you and make you feel very well taken care of; pampered, which we all deserve. I love that they carry items other than just hair products so if you're in need of a quick gift, you have options here. Their soy candles are to die for, so many scents!
Just give them a try and you too will be hooked!

I booked an appt for a color correction consult at ROCA after reading the reviews on City Search. I was impressed by the reviews and that the salon took the time to respond to low-ranking reviews in a professional manner. I was treated well on my initial phone call, as well as during my consult appt with owner, Rod. He offered me a solution to color correction that was very affordable and I trusted that the result would be beautiful. I was not disappointed. Rod did a fabulous job with my not-so-fab, multi-colored tresses. I feel human again! Yea! I've since booked an appt for a cut and cannot wait to see the results. The atmosphere is fun and friendly. The cast and crew are entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and look forward to returning for more services. Hello, gift certificates for the holidays!

I had the same hair cut since the third grade. It was always braided back since it frizzed like a lion mane and was as course as horse hair. After 27 years I decided it was time for a change and the first thing was my hair. Since I was going to complete a drastic change I did lots of research on the web and the name that came up with the most positive reviews was Roca Salon and Spa, so naturally that is where my appointment was made. I gave the stylist a general idea of the look I wanted and then left the rest to her expertise, while I was being pampered by the host. After my cut, highlights, and style were competed I felt like DANCING for JOY. My hair was shiny, smooth, and did I mention GORGEOUS. It was so different that when I met my father a few nights later for dinner he walked right past me and I had to call to him for him to recognize who I was. I also have been able to maintain the look on my own since the stylist and host showed me how to maintain it with minimal ease and time. I will never let anyone else touch my hair except Rhonda and Joey from Roca.

Thank You Rhonda and Joey for turning a country bumpkin into a hottie uptown girl!

The salon itself is really nice. Not only pretty but clean and well kept. Everyone was very friendly. Christine did a wonderful job cutting my hair. Not only cutting but talking about how to make the style better with my type of hair. The color went fine and I also had my eyebrows done. Everything was good. Man, it was expensive, the cut was worth the price but I don't think the color was. I probably could have got my color done like that at my usual place.

I just went to the Roca hair salon 4 - 18-08 because of all the wonderful reviews I read on citysearch. I have to admit that I am very particular with my long blond/brown/red hair and I was cautious about picking a stylist. I booked a color/cut treatment wtih Rhonda in the morning with limited expectations. I walked in a common college student and walked out a runway model from Victoria's secret!! Each strand of hair was slowly treated and cut so that nothing was out of place. All of my girlfriends were envious and I went out to Power and Light and got lots of attention!! Rhonda is absolutely amazing and did an outstanding! She listened to exactly what I wanted and then gave me advice that I will use for the rest of my life. She has not only gone to hair school in California but also trained in London AND has a business degree. This is not any normal stylist but one of the few in the business that has a beautiful artistic touch to everything she does. I will never go to anyone else again!!!

I just read the 1-star posting below and HAD to leave a comment, since I had an incredible time here just 3 weeks ago. I canot begin to tell you how wonderful my experience here was. The entire staff is just so friendly and a lot of fun! This is not a stuffy arrogant salon like others I have been to. But, THESE PEOPLE KNOW THEIR STUFF! I had an aweful haircut with even worse color and I went to Ron, who is the owner here. His chair is upstairs (this salon used to be a house that has a fun & funky edge to the inside) with a really fun group of hair stylists. He gave me the best haircut and highlights (fixed my mess) I have ever had, and I got so many compliments like never before. I came here because they won best highlights in Kansas City. Now I know why! Believe me, you will LOVE this place! I highly recommend Ron if you need a great haircut or color. Also, his daughter Lacey waxed my eyebrows and gave them a really nice shape.

I am sure the salon is fine but my haircut was awful. I have very,easy happy hair and my stylist butchered mine and my girlfriends who has been going there for about a year. I can't comprehend that somebody who trained with a famous sylist could mess a haircut up that badly, both of ours. There were "chunks" taken out. He didn't even ask me how I wanted it cut or anything. I have thick hair and he didn't know what to do with it so he just did a cut he knew how to do. I went to Salon Sophia on the plaza 2 days later and Ron gave me one of the best haircuts I have ever had in my life and I have even had my hair done in Beverly Hills. If you are going to pay for a decent haircut, think twice about going here.

I was nervous to go to a different hairstylist. I chose ROCA because it got such great reviews online. I have to say, I received the best haircut and color I've ever had! I highly recommend Tim. He is very talented. I didn't think my hair could look this good. The real test was when I washed and styled my hair at home. Sometimes a haircut is never the same when you try to re-do what the stylist did. My hair is perfect...and so easy.

Everyone was so nice and professional. The prices are reasonable too. Thank you so much Tim and ROCA!

I had just moved to the area, and needed major help. Rhonda was the stylist for my appt. She took hair that looked like a cruel joke and made it great. Not only was she friendly, but she truly cared that I walked out of there with great hair. She worked magic and did it in a way that evidenced her passion for her job, and a genuine concern that my hair made me feel like I could face the world again. She took on the challenge and did not just try to get me in and out like some other salons. She discussed all my options and was honest and truthful. The atmosphere was proffesional, friendly and comfortable. I will return there as long as I am in Kansas City. I have never had such excellent service, possitive atttitude, and dramatic results, as I did at Roca Salon.
The staff was warm, friendly and accomodating. I am going back for some extensions soon, and I see the quality of product she uses and the technique is the latest and tailored to the individual. My visit there left no doubt that Ronda loves her work, puts client satisfaction first, and will live up to her promises at the consultation.
I feel so lucky that I found this salon and hope that other people who read this, and are looking for a salon
that will not disappoint, you would be cheating yourself if you do not check this place out. You are not just an appointment at Roca, you are a person. There is no pressure to buy products or services at all. I wanted to share my wonderful experience there with the community because it is rare to find such top-notch service, friendliness and results, and if that is what you want, this is the place to go. I can not thank Ronda enough for what she did for me in repairing the mistake of another stylist. I reccomend this place 100% and would give it 10 stars if it were available. I have been hesitant to write a review, because I hate to criticize other people's work. However, my decision to try ROCA was based soley on the great reviews it received on here, so...I HAD TO SPEAK UP! I left there with the worst highlight EVER. It was seriously a joke. Here is why...

-First, the highlight itself was SO SLOPPY. The bleached look slapped on, and I left there looking like I had had a highlight 3 weeks prior, not the same day. (blondes...you will understand)
-Second, MY HAIR WAS ORANGE. Thank god he only did my roots, but I left with orange highlights! (This was caused by not letting the color process long enough)
-To top it all off, he charged me $155 JUST for a highlight. When I was checking out, he said and I quote "It's going to be $155...Is that okay?" Obviously, he knew that $155 for a highlight was ridiculous and that he was scamming me.

Bottomline, this place is shady! And the person who highlighted my hair did a TERRIBLE job!

I lived in Missouri all of my life and a few years ago moved to Houston, TX. I have never been able to find anyone who cuts my hair better than Gary. (he's only there on Friday and Saturday) I make special trips back to Kansas City just to get my hair cut by him, trust me you won't be disappointed. Since I can not get back as often as I would like its very important that my hair looks good even in the in between stages, and it always does.

The entertainment is also great and yes I'm talking about Keith he is hilarious. Also you get what you pay for a perfect head of hair each and every time. Thanks to everyone at Roca

What do I have to say about this place... I have a great time everytime I am there. I have my hair cut by Oz, he is great, the people that work there are very nice and helpful. I look forward to my appointment and the time spent there. Oz is great, he knows what he is doing and tells me when something, I think will look good on me, WONT. I recently got my hair cut & colored by Rhonda at ROCA Salon; she and her husband own the salon. She was recommended to me by a co-worker who always looks GREAT! When I first walked in, Rhonda greeted me immediately (she works by the entrance), and 2 other employees greeted me at different times, not even knowing who I was there to see and before I even introduced myself to the receptionist! The entire staff makes you feel welcome. It is not one of these snobby "spas", and these people really know their stuff. Rhonda gave me the most beautiful color I have ever had and a brand new style that I am thrilled with. At first I only wanted a trim, but after she made a few suggestions I felt totally confident in her honest opinion. She even offered to correct my makeup foundation color with a new mineral makeup and I have never had makeup look so good on me! She and her husband take their staff to all kinds of training so they all keep current on the latest trends. I also looked at her book of hair extension photos of work she has done and they look AMAZING! I'm thinking of having it done!

My only "con" is I was put on hold for quite a while when I first called for my appointment, so I hung up and called back (the receptionist is a mature woman and I think she just forgot I was holding on the phone), I'm so glad I called back! Everyone I see loves my new look! Thanks, Rhonda!! I will definately be using the Refer-A-Friend cards!!

I just recently moved downtown and found this hair salon on CitySearch. I have been here twice now and I have decided not to go back. I have gotten highlights and haircuts from the owner. I decided the last time I was there that I wasn't that thrilled with the place. I just felt kind of uncomfortable there. Will try some place else.

i found out about this salon from citysearch and as i am new here i ddint really know what to expect.i am used to of living in big cities and i always goto the best salons wherever i am.when i went to roca salon for the first time i felt that they r very welcoming.all of the staff is very nice.its not one of those flashy big places but they know what they r doing and that is what really matters.rhode and ronda takes personal interest in every client and they make u feel like home.i got my higlights done from Oz who is from dallas and he did a great job.i am not very easy to please but he took his time and remained very patient with me.overall my experience was great and i would highly recomend it and i would go there again Definitely.
