Horrible Customer Service - I'm DONE with Mikes!
I have a history with Mikes. Good price on bikes (during Mega Sale Only) bad service from know-it-all staff. Which they don't (know it all), all they do seem to know is that their views are right and anyone else obviously does not know what the heck they are talking about. Way to run a business. First bike I bought I was stupid enough to buy the 'extended service plan' (what a joke!) took it in for an 'adjustment' said it would take two days...ok I thought they must be busy. Upon my return I noticed that to fix my shifting all they had done was adjust my barrel adjusters! Two days to do that? I could do that myself in less than two minutes! What a joke!
Another time when I took it in for an 'adjustment' (of course this is all supposed to be 'free' under their 'extended service plan') I was told my bike has 'sub-standard' parts and thats why its hard to adjust the shifting! Say what!!!?? You mean the thousand dollar bike YOU sold me is substandard and now your going to bad-mouth something your shop sold me? Wow, amazing.
Fast forward to a ride down the fab forties in Sacramento - doing about 20 mph - all of a sudden loud noise and 'BANG' bike starts to shake and I almost lose control and wreck! Turns out the rear derailleur was torn off the hanger and pushed into the rear wheel, it was only with luck that I did not eat it hard. Take it to Mikes....well my chain was old and it broke they told me, my response 'But I just had it in here for service!" their response 'Oh we don't check for chain wear...' REALLY? You can't be bothered to use a chain tool to see if it need replacing? The two seconds it would take and the potential sale to a customer of a new chain is to much to ask for? What a joke!!
Last straw was today - a friend of mine bought a bike (during Mega Sale, why else would you deal with this silly store...) Called him up to come 'inspect' the bike since it had some 'scratches' on it. That was not the issue, the manager (one of the few 'nice' people at Mikes - Brian) would work with him. No it was the wheels, as anyone knows about bikes the manufactures put lower end wheels and brakes to save some money, which is fine - its expected. But oh no don't question the great Wisdom of an EMPLOYEE (i.e. they are there to SERVE the customer) so this joker Justin did not like the fact that I said the wheels are on the low end and probably would not hold up that long for my friend (who is on the heavier side for a rider, like me). and basically gave me a bunch of attitude for questioning his OPINION. How about this approach retards...'why yes sir they aren't the best I could sell you these other more dependable wheels..' but nooo you're pride and ego is hurt so you lash out instead, good thinking moron.
Well I'm done, never going into that store again - I'll pay another 100 bucks to buy a new bike somewhere else They can take their '3 tubes for 10 bucks deal' and stuff it up there you know where and self-inflate the lot of them! One good thing - thanks to their crappy service I did learn how to work on a bike myself, even built up my current bike from scratch. You want good service without attitude - go to another local bike shop like BB or BC, they might know more than you, but they are happy to share that knowledge and not give you a bunch of attitude. And who needs that when your spending your hard earned money on a bike? Not me.....

I would like you to know that I will NEVER use a mike's bikes location again. In a recent trip to the sacramento store to pick up a wheel which was repaired for me; the service associate, ignored me for almost 5 minutes. In this time he made eye contact with me multiple times. I was tempted to ask "how long are you going to ignore me?". Then, when someone he knew walked up behind me, AFTER me, he proceeded to talk to them about every day BS. I had to walk back to the front counter to get another person to pull my wheel down. I had to tell this associate that Yes, there was someone back there but he was choosing to ignore me instead of help me. When I did finally get my wheel, the service associate looked at me and said "sorry, it's been busy." Obviously not too busy to talk to his buddy.

Mike's Bikes should realize that they NEED customers to run a business; and customers sure as hell aren't going to come back or recommend your shop when they are treated so poorly. From now on I will make sure to use another bicycle store as Mike's Bikes obviously doesn't give a damn about their customer base. I have removed myself from their newsletters and obviously decided to buy my new bicycle at another shop. Way to run a business.
