My fiance has always had a difficult time fitting into nice shirts. He has a smaller frame and has always spent additional money to have shirts tailored after he purchased them from a store. They still never looked perfect on him.

I went to La Rukico custom tailors for a custom suit last week of October. They had a good selection of fabrics and Mr. Kelly guided me with on some style options as well. I opted for a custom suit and also selected 4 custom shirts which were promised to be delivered in 3 weeks time. I am happy to receive the products 2 days before time and the fit is really good. I'd give this place 5 star rating coz - its affordable, had world class fabrics and they have a no-nonsense professional attitude

My previous Italian tailor retired so I was in the market for a new one. Mr Kelly was recommended to me by my attorney, so I ordered a custom suit and 2 shirts and was highly impressed with the quality, fit and style. It's refreshing to find another old school tailor who is reliable and skilled.

One place that I recommend is La Rukico. Mr. Kelly and staff are very reliable; they allow you to define your own distinctive style with luxurious fabrics, flawless construction and the best prices in the Tri-State area.

Select from a large selection of fabrics, select the features

I myself bought a suit and a couple of shirts. They fit perfectly and now I do know tailoring is an art !

On his website it reads Mr. Kelly is a timeless style coach who will mentor you through the process of making you a suit. In my case that sentence fits perfectly, I purchase my first custom suit 11yrs ago for my first real job right out of college. I visited several retail stores prior to my meeting with Mr. Kelly, they showed me no particular attention and some literally ignored me. Out of frustration I yahooed tailors in nyc (google wasnt yet available back then). Hong Kong tailors/La Rukico pop up, so I made a visit.

Upon arriving Mr. Kelly was extremely professional, he informed me of the differences in suit styles and fabrics. A complete measurement and picture of my body structure was taken by his skilled staff. I originally ordered one suit and 3 custom shirts on my first visit. Since then I have ordered 6 additional custom made suits and over 20 shirts. Simply put Mr. Kelly is the best tailor in NYC period.

I recently purchased and received four suits and nine shirts from Mr. Kelly at La Rukico Custom Tailors. \r
First, the merchandise arrived ahead of schedule, fit like a glove right out of the box and, maybe most importantly, felt great. Furthermore, the suit/shirt combinations Mr. Kelly helped me put together turned out beautifully. Mr. Kelly was also instrumental in choosing the liners for each suit, which looked great.\r
I have been to more than one custom tailor and Mr. Kelly is by far the best. The quality and fit of his clothing is excellent, as is his sense of style and customer service. \r
I now own five Mr. Kelly suits, the four new ones and one that I purchased in the past. Given my most recent experience I am sure it won't be long before I own five more.

I recently got a suit as a gift for a friends wedding. I'm one of the groomsmen, and the groom had a great idea: ""Hey! I should buy groomsmen matching suits for the wedding! It'll be cool and will double as a party favor."" So he bought us all identical Tommy suits from Macy's. Very nice of him.

The trouble is I'm 6'6"" tall. I usually wear 36"" length pants. We went to Macy's, tried on suit jackets and found what fitted before my buddy ordered suits for all of us. He ordered the largest suit pants he could find for me. The trouble is that Tommy only makes 34"" length When i got the suit the jacket fit right but the pants looked like I had grown out of them in 8th grade.

When I brought the suit to a Macy's and tried it on for the tailor and the salesman they just looked at me and sighed. ""Call Tommy. Maybe he made some extra-long pants once and has surplus lying around."" I called Tommy. Checked his website. Checked Macy's website, checked all kinds of websites. Nothing. I started looking for similar fabrics because I thought I was going to have to have a custom suit made.

I brought it in to la rukico. They didn't exactly jump out of their chairs to help me, but the tailor had me try it on, took some measurements and said ""We'll do what we can."" They called me back in 2 weeks and the pants were long enough, i could sit down while wearing them and I was a happy camper.

I am going to list a handful of my favorite Kelly quotes. Take them as you may - you decide whether you want this kind of business relationship...

- ""I have 65,000 customers, I dont need any more!""
- ""You're lying. You dont know what you're talking about - I know my materials this shirt is not from this year.""
- ""A hole in the sleeve is not problem.""
- After 5 weeks - ""Mr. 'So &So' you've gained 3.5"" on your waist I could not have made 2 separate suit pants wrong.""

Without going on a complete diatribe about this horrible business/owner here are a few important comments....

Kelly is rude, abrasive, a manipulator and a liar. After 6-years of going to this man to have suits and shirts made he progressively got more and more comfortable. He is 65-yrs old and frankly his head is NOT in the game and only wants to mill people out for the their money.

Each visit you are treated like its the first time you walked in there. ""Last trade mentality"" As it is referred to on Wall St. He doesnt care about relationship, history or future business. He is cheap and unflexible as it relates to negotiation.

He frequently yells, loses his patience and tells you as a client/customer that you're lying. You have to lower yourself to his level to get any satisfaction and after years of dealing with having to arm wrestle for better prices, better service and being yelled at ... the relationship is finally severed.

I plan to take him to small claims court and I presently have Amex going head to head with him. This is New York City there are 100s of tailors to chose from.... Why chose a guy who is rude, unappreciative, and has never heard ""the customer is always right."" Rather in his world there is only Kelly. You make your own mind up... But these are all truthes. i would rather pay 2x than go to this ahole again.

Pros: Very reasonable quality suits

Cons: WORST SERVICE, HORRIBLE TREATMENT & TERRIBLE BUSINESS MAN

I'm am extremely happy the work...suit fit like a glove. Even after a small misunderstanding with my choice of fabric, the problem was remedied professionally. You can really tell the difference in the quality of work performed. I highly recommend. Suits usually ready week before expected promise date. Will be going back soon.

It was my first time that I got a custom made suit from a Tailor. I always went to off-the-rack and got suit but they were not the best fit. Somewhere or the other you will find mistakes in off-the-rack clothings. I wanted to look perfect and after lot of R&D I tried La Rukico Tailors.
They gave me the best fitting suits and shirts I have ever bought in my life. The fabric ""Loro Piana Super 160"" is itself so beautiful and they got more fabrics like Zegna, Dormeuil etc. Working for Market Research I have known people or jealous business in New York write bad reviews against each other. And so is La Rukico Tailors being made victim of : Mr. Kelly and his associates are honest people and will give the best customer service. Their tailors take your measurement and will sure give you best fitting, if theres anything wrong you find they will surely fix it for you.
I am a happy customer and will surely come back to get some more suits and shirt made and I do recommend people who are looking for good clothing and at reasonable price to check out La Rukico Tailors.

I went to La Rukico after extensively researching a good Hong Kong Tailor. I checked the Internet, I asked at the Waldorf, etc. I am very hard to fit as I am a bodybuilder and was ecstatic at finding a Tailor who could not only deliver fit, but fashion and price as well! The process was very smooth, many different measurements, photographs, and interviews went into selecting the best suit and shirt combinations. However, upon receiving the suit and shirts, I was astounded to find the material shown me in the store was NOT the same material the suit was constructed from, the workmanship was shoddy (irregular and off-color stitching), and the fit was lousy (2 inches short in the sleeves)! The shirts on the other hand were beautiful! Wonderful fabric and beautifully sewn, as well as fit, however, the selfsame mistake in the length of the sleeves presented itself. I called Mr. Kelly and tried to explain, however, he was EXTREMELY rude and told me I knew not of which I spoke and that I would have to come back to New York or find a local tailor who could mark corrections and they would be happy to correct the problem. I explained to Mr. Kelly that the problem of two inches too short in the sleeves is not correctable and the entire suit as well as shirts would need to be remade! I further explained that the material the suit was made of was not the same as shown me in the store! He continued to get ruder and ruder and finally I hung up with him and sent the entirety of the order back posthaste!! I also made dispute with American Express!! Mr. Kelly is nothing short of a disreputable businessman! I might have found a way to work with the problem if not for the plethora of mistakes, but to compound it with rudeness!! And now, to my dismay, to find many similar remarks on Citysearch (the one place I didn't research!) Caveat Emptor!! Do not darken the door of this place!!!

I chose to do business with this horrid place because of the excellent reviews of this organization. I strongly discourage ANYONE to use this company because of Mr. Kelly's attitude. I raised an issue regarding the armhole of my suit (I specified a high armhole but received a low armhole), and the color of the shirt (I ordered white but I received off-white). Mr. Kelly started getting visually annoyed and even had the audacity to raise his voice at me after I complained. After further investigation of his reviews, nearly every review mentions the name Mr. Kelly multiple times throughout the review. Each review thanks Mr. Kelly as if he is a divine gift to mankind. In addition, nearly every reviewer has only written one review. Generally a person who goes through the effort of writing a positive review of a business has gone through the effort of writing reviews for other businesses as well. I strongly urge you to read through all the reviews, both positive and negative, and I trust you will come to a decision to AVOID THIS PLACE altogether.

I ordered three shirts and got them on-time as promised. The problem was one of the shirts was not the color I ordered (I ordered a beige-yellowish color but got a white one). Overall I sent three emails to Mr. Kelly and got zero replies. I also called three times and finally as per Mr. Kelly suggestion sent the shirt back. The reply from Mr.Kelly (who is quite brush to the point of rudeness) was quite amazing to me. He said: ""This is not a white shirt. Come over and I'll show you the real white color"".
Well, two things I know for sure. One, I'm not a color blind, and two, I never go back to La Rukico Tailors.

The suit and shirts I purchased from La Rukico looked excellent. I had never bought a custom made suit before and Mr. Kelly let me feel comfortable and gave me good advice on my purchase and with how to look. (He also helped me with parking my car at a discount!) Everything was ready on time and when a shirt was done in the wrong fabric, a correct one was given to me at no cost.

Bought two suits - so easy, and the suits are beautiful and fit perfectly.

Pros: Perfect fit & excellent quality; quick delivery

Cons: Can never buy off-the-rack again

I bought two suits, a few shirts and three excellent ties from Mr. Kelly while I was in NY after business school. All fit perfect and his pricing was fair, much less than other tailors I'd found. At the time, I recommended him to a few of my peers, their experiences were similar.

After relocating to DC two years ago, I mistakenly tried to find a tailor in this area b/c I didn't want to have my ""guy"" be in NYC. As my wife (and credit card) can attest, I've struggled to find someone down here that matches Mr. Kelly's product and service. In DC, I've dealt with horrible service, poor materials and bad fit with the so called ""custom"" tailors I've found. In addition, their pricing doesn't compete with his and, more importantly, those suits/blazers now sit in the back of my closet due to improper fit and/or an overzealous salesman who sold me on cuts that were not to my liking (partially my fault as well).

Today, I'm happy to say that I spoke to Mr. Kelly and plan to get fitted for a new suit and slacks/blazer when I'm back in NY next month.

Pros: Custom Suits for the Price of Retail

.

The TAILORS ON SITE are fantastic and end up saving you hoards of cash. I lost weight living abroad and my neighborhood London tailor wanted 57 british pounds to take my suit trousers in whereas on my next trip back to NYC Mr Kelly took care of it no charge. This is always the case tweaking my garments as needed. And like any relationship business the best customers do get taken care of - of course Mr Kelly is more likely to fix my 4 year old shirt instead of the guy who bought 2 shirts 2 years ago and wants it fixed 2 years later. BA and Virgin upgrade their most frequent fliers right? Mr Kelly EDUCATED & HUMBLED me and continues to do so - despite all the knowledge on my first visit I still insisted on a 3 button suit with euro style double vents. That suit fit very well and slims me down but clearly not as well as the 2 button single vent suits I have been doing with Mr Kelly since then. Luckily, with Mr Kelly there is no need to worry about fashion fads because their primary concern is what's right for you not what some 28 year old GQ reading fashion buyer at a department store thinks people should be buying. Yes if you want slim suit, skinny lapel, shorter suit jacket, slanted pockets Mr Kelly can do all that - but be advised he will let you know the drawbacks of those things given his trained eye & experience. ATTENTION TO DETAIL with Mr Kelly is fantastic - he compensates for uneven shoulders, my slighly bigger left thigh, lapels with are in accordance with your frame's width, trouser cuff height is adjusted for your build as are shirt collars, cuffs - I am amazed buying off the rack dress shirts whether 15 inch neck or 18 inch all have the same collar pulled from the bin at some factory. \r
I have NEVER had an ordering mistake like the ones cited in the negative reviews in my almost 10 years with Mr Kelly. What issues I have had like button color or coat length were and still are quickly resolved on site. Maybe there are some instances but this has not been my experience nor that of the people that I have referred or even the many satisfied people I meet at the shop every time I visit. Ever get mad or frustrated with AT&T or Time Warner? I am sure stuff happens but it just hasnt happened to me or many others. \r
Any apprehension you may have at pricing should be quickly discarded. Or you can do the work, do the math etc and I am very confident you will find this is the best high end suits and shirts one can find a very reasonable prices. Some guys can buy off the peg / rack and have easy success. Even so those suits will never MAKE AN IMPRESSION OR STATEMENT the way Mr Kelly's custom clotes will. I cant tell you how many times people ask me about my working buttons with one of the button hole's stitching in the color of my lining, my really colorful linings, or colored shirt buttons, or how a 260lbs guy can pull off plain front trousers - surprising it's all really tasteful and not as ""loud"" as it may seem on paper. IF THERE IS A BETTER PLACE THAT CAN MATCH MR KELLY'S HIGH END PRODUCT, FINE TAILORING SERVICE, TIMELINESS ANDVERY DIGESTABLE PRICES - trust me I would have found it. But such a place doesnt exist - only at Mr Kelly's.

Ten years in NYC I've had 4 apartments, 8 cellphones, 3 girlfriends, and 2 jobs but only ONE TRUSTED TAILOR - MR KELLY. It's been a DEEPENING RELATIONSHIP since my first visit back in 1999 starting with one simple suit and evolved to the point where we're doing more advanced things like alternate color stitching, under the collar highlights, peak lapels on single breasted jackets and a fully customized car coat this winter. Sadly I did stray a few times early on and I will forever regret it. Brooks Bros made to measure = garbage, a banker's favorite spot in central HK = disaster, Savile Row was a flirtation given a turnaround time measured in months and prices at 3-4x greater than Kelly's. BUT MR KELLY FORGAVE ME and even fixed my garments from other competitors. I will leave the QUALITY AND FIT ACCOLDAES to other reviews but believe me THIS IS THE BEST DEAL GOING GLOBALLY. Hong Kong locals rip off expats & tourists, that guy on 5th Ave is not as good, Saville Row is absurdly expensive, while Mr Kelly's gives u top shelf fabrics at prices well bellow what you see in Dormeuil's, Zegna's and Brioni's own stores in places like NY, HK, London and Paris. Mr Kelly has the problem of being passionate about his own work in a city full of know it alls. It was hard for me to digest at first that my build was just not ""suited"" for three button suits. Nor is my frame well sutied for double / side / duck butt vents on the back of a jacket. THE CUSTOMER IS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT when it comes to custom suits and that's something bratty type-A NYCers may have a hard time digesting during their first visit. In matters of custom tailoring Mr Kelly & team are the experts, just like a doctor - how often do you really know more than your doctor on medical matters? Sure, there will be style differences but again this is a relationship and you end up working things out. see part 2.

Pros: LOOKING SO DAMN GOOD

Cons: HAVING TO REPEATEDLY EXPLAIN WHY YOU LOOK SO DAMN GOOD

.

I have been Mr. Kelly's customer for over 6 years and never ever had issue with any of his products and he has always provided outstanding customer service. Even my father and brothers always buy from him. You get a great quality suit made out of the finest fabrics for a reasonable price.

As far as AndreChi is concerned, I do not think he has ever visited La Rukico Tailors, he would know that Mr. Kelly sends a copy your measurements, style desired and fabrics selected via email the day we place an order. You always have a proof of what you have ordered.

I am disappointed with the experience I had at La Rukico. \r
I purchased a Zegna 2-Button suit with 2 slits. I got a 3-Button suit with a single slit. \r
The service was horrible and I was treated terribly. Avoid!

Mr. Kelly and his team are the best...I have been getting my suits here for years and have bought at least six (plus a tux). The staff is helpful, they have every fabric imaginable and they are perfectionists...this is an impossible combination to beat!

I have been to Mr Kelly twice. Once five years for suits and shirts. Since then they were great quality suits that really held up well. It was time to restock and so I recently returned. While I have just picked up my new suits and shirts up and I love the quality of the fabric and elements of detail. I looking forward to wearing them. Regarding service Mr Kelly is friendly. and straight forward. I needed my old suits altered significantly and he gladly did it, I needed on suit mended and he did it, and I needed a tux (not purchased from him) altered in two day and he did it. That is customer service and value add, I am looking for.

Custom suits and shirts are worth it in how they make you look and what you get. I will definitely return soon.

.

I've been a customer of Mr. Kelly/La Rukico over the last year (a little longer). During that time I've made purchases for about 15 custom tailored shirts and 2 suits.

First I'll comment on the quality of work. Comparing to off-the-rack, and 3 other tailors I've used, Mr. Kelly's quality of work from Hong Kong is, for the most part, top-notch. Shirts have always been the exact detail seen in the swatches and also constructed of good quality (with the exception of two that had the sleeves worn out quicker than normal. The measurements felt true to my actual build however, now thinking back I would have asked for a few tweaks here and there (smaller cut in the back, room for a watch in one sleeve, etc.). So with that I recommend if you go (to any tailor for that matter), either ask questions or specify EXACTLY what little details you want done. After all you are paying for it. The suits were also constructed as detailed and in good quality. I like how little details were not overlooked (back seam on waist pants for support, extra wear material on inside of pant leg bottoms, and of course the obvious signs of a bespoke suit - surgeon's cuffs, embedded name inside suit, etc.).

Additionally, Mr. Kelly has always been pretty good about when I come back with some adjustments and to make a couple tweaks here and there.

But now onto the service and such. Customer service is anything but ""standard"" here. One usually looks for the one-on-one customer experience and at the very least to go into a custom tailor to learn more about what he/she would want and such. Like I said, learn NOT lectured or treated with disdain. The initial times I was in I was able to ignore that for the basis that the quality was good, but coming back I felt like I had a burden to deal with every time I wanted to drop by, in having to deal with his poor customer service and lackluster professionalism. I've probably been in a few times over the last few months and yet still they don't even recognize me or have a record in their minds -- poor client relations in my mind. You would think that after 10+ orders this year alone they would know who I was, as well as the 5+ orders from my brother.

So in conclusion, I would say if you can get in and cut through the cloud of egotistical B.S. and dictate exactly what you want and keep the hostile tone down, the quality is great and the price is good for what you are going to likely find in the area.

I order a custom suit from La Rukico Tailors two weeks after placing an order for s semi custom suit from Brooks Brothers. I picked up my suit and two shirts from La Rukico yesterday and they were perfect. I am still waiting over six weeks for my Brooks Brothers suit which will still need to be altered. La Rukico's service was excellent and their prices are very competitive. I will be buying more products from them. Highly recomended

I've spent years buying suits at Barney's, Brooks Brothers and Neiman Marcus, having them tailored and always being disappointed. I will never do so again. For less money, Mr. Kelly provides finer materials and superior craftsmanship. The suits look and feel better than anything from Hickey Freeman, Purple Label or Armani. There truly is no substitute for a suit hand tailored for your body.

I'll be honest; some of the garments I've ordered have come in incorrectly - but guess what? Mr Kelly stands by every single piece of clothing he sells. I have never had a problem getting an order corrected. I vehemently disagree with the guy who said that the customer is treated like a king until after the purchase. I'd actually argue it's the exact opposite. In fact, when Mr Kelly noticed that I dropped some weight he recommended that I bring in the suits I had made a few years ago and get them taken in - for free! Like I said, the only tailor I'll go to.

They say clothes makes the man , well then Mr.Kelly must be the Hephaestus of cloth and twine, i must say never have i had a more pleasant , customer experience and equal only to the fine work and design of my suit. Mr.Kelly Works with you on each and every layer of picking what works for you, while giving you the ability to find your own feel and style.
I've often felt that the lack of customer care and satisfaction is an art lost to the modern day consumer, a personal touch of making the client feel that his/her business isn't as nearly important as their satisfaction.

In all reality i read a post here in regard to the 3 year old shirt, well lets be honest that's not being very realistic. What business would redeem a 3 Year old shirt or a 3 year old Anything. But i digress, Mr.Kelly thank you for keeping your are art and Mastering your craft. i look forward to returning i would highly recommend you to anyone.

The service is professional, quality designer fabric and the price is right.
I came in to purchase a suit and tuxedo. They took my measurements, came back to try on and the suits were PERFECT! Very accurate and quick! I've been to different tailors...Asia, London...by far this is the best in NYC!

My history with La Rukico is as follows. I bought two shirts from them about 2 years ago. At the time I received great service, the two owners of the shop I believe are father and son and were very friendly people. Once I got the shirts I noticed that they were of good quality (not extraordinary in anyway but acceptable) but that the neck was far too small. I could not even button the neck, not even close. I am a physician so the time I have to spend trekking back and forth to midtown to get all this fixed is very limited. I basically forgot about it and just wore the shirts occasionally when I didn't need to button the collar.

Two years later I decided to give them a second try. I went in and explained to them that I had previously ordered two shirts from them and that the collar was too tight so I wanted to make sure that the collar fit properly this time. In fact I told them to make it an extra half inch bigger for comfort. Three weeks pass and I get an e-mail saying my shirts are ready. I run in an pick them up quickly without trying them on. Once I get home I notice that while the collar is marginally larger this time it is still much too tight. I wear the collar to work the next day thinking that maybe it will loosen up but the only thing that happens is that in the middle of the day to top button literally pops off.

I go back to La Rukico and explain what has happened and how I now have 4 shirts that do not fit me. I ask if he can please fix these two other shirts that I have as well. To my complete shock he becomes enraged, actually shaking with anger, and tells me that there is nothing he can do about a shirt he made two years ago and that I should ""throw it away.""

Needless to say I am very dismayed by this reaction. I would not advise anyone to shop at this place. You will be treated like a king until there is a problem at which point it seems his ego cannot withstand any hint that he may have made a mistake. I will not be back.

One sweaty spring afternoon I walked into La Rukico in an ill-fitting oxxford suit with two bolts of Marinella fabric under my arm. A month and $1,000 later I am the proud owner of two custom suits with my preferred details (working sleeve buttons, ticket pocket) worthy of Naples or Savile Row. These gents are a hoot too. When you go to La Rukico you feel like you know a secret the best-dressed men in the world would like to know.
