I took my parents here when they came up to visit me and they were incredibly impressed by the variety of the menu. We started with an appetizer that had a surprisingly delicious flavor profile and the entrees were no exception. It's a quirky little place that is definitely worth a visit. A little crazy and loud on the weekend though and they could certainly improve on the music selection and volume.

Even if Noir often ends up being my back-up-plan as opposed to my go-to bar, it still remains one of the best places to meet for a post-work cocktail or a late-night rendezvous. Maybe I??m just a sucker for the film noir theme, but it??s more likely due to the fact that this place is convenient, affordable and has just the right amount swank.

The cocktails are always tops and the bar menu has just the right amount of good eats to make sure those drinks don??t go right to your head. In the dead of Winter, it can be easy to forget it exists, as it??s tucked into a tiny little corner of the Charles Hotel. Come bird-and-bee-time, however, it??s a swell place to sit outside with a martini and a clove cigarette, looking all dark and mysterious.

Pros: small, dark and mysterious.

Monday through Thursday from 5-7pm, Noir offers their food menu at prices ranging from $0-5. It's amazingly easy to cobble together a meal from all the offerings. Drinks are pricier, mostly running over $10, but are well worth it for the combination of classics and unique seasonal libations. If you price it right, you can get out of Noir with dinner for under $20.

The room itself is not particularly comfortable, but if you're looking for a dark corner to enjoy your drinks in, you've found your place. Of course, if you also want to see what you're drinking, you're out of luck.

The first time I went there, I had a good experience. Good drinks and a nice atmosphere, but very slow service.

The second time, was not so great. My sister and I got food p0isoning that lasted over a week (throwing up, dlarrhea, & abdominal pains that put me in tears). This is not what I expected from my $100 bill. Definitely stay away from the food (it was only average anyways). We narrowed it down to the lettuce. They probably didn't wash their hands after bathroom use.

The service was again slow and there was only one other table besides us. There are much better hotel bars in Boston. I won't be going back to this one.

I like Noir primarily as a great bar to end an evening of bar-hopping or after a late dinner. Their drinks are consistently good and the staff has always been courteous if not outright chipper. It's a lot more than I would have ever expected from a place that's sort of a hotel bar.

Pros: Good drinks!

Cons: They have a broken projection screen that they show "the game" on sometimes.

.

A cool setting, a place to feel high class without actual being high class. Probably the latest last call in town, which is nice. Drinks are a bit pricey but the staff is friendly and attentive.

I specifically chose this lounge because it was supposedly very romantic. Not so much. We walked in at probably 10:30 on a Saturday night. It was full of college students and the music was blaring. The place was tiny. I don't know. Everyone I was with was in disbelief that Noir was voted best anything. I didn't try their food because we had just eaten but they did have a very original and extensive (and expensive) drink menu. It just wasn't the atmosphere I was expecting or looking for. Don't go there if you're looking for romance.

Pros: yummy and original drinks

Cons: too small, too loud, not romantic, $12 drinks

Great food -- not plain vanilla dishes but exquisite dishes. The drinks are great (but expensive); They do discount during the week during 5-7pm. It is tucked in the Charles Hotel so that is nice

This bar is pretty swanky compared to the rest of the square. It's a bit small, but is comfy and chill. Clientelle is a diverse crowd which is pretty cool.

Pros: only bar in cambrdige that servces alcohol after 1:30

Cons: a bit pricy

Agree with prior reviewers about the excellent (but expensive) drinks. The key is to show up between 5 and 7 p.m. on weeknights, when the food is all steeply discounted (everything $5 or less). Definitely worth a trip.

Pros: great atmosphere, reasonable pricing at happy hour

Friendly service, great patio, and interesting cocktails. This place is a cool spot for a date or a place to start or end your night. Know most of the staff, they are knowledgable and fun. Only place in square open till 2am EVERY night. Not bad. Crowd gets a little rowdy late at night. For most part though, it's clientele comprised of hotel patrons and older people. Good martinis and cocktails. Recommended

I agree with the other reviewer regarding RUDE waitresses, but if you can get past that and I try to, being that the eats are great and reasonably priced at Happy Hour, between 5 and 7 pm, M-F, it's worth trying. Yes the drinks aren't cheap at $10, but everything's expensive these days! Hey if you get tude, give it back and then don't give a tip if you don't get excellent service. See you there!

Noir is a great neighbor spot I sometimes like to visit after work on my way home, but with such unpleasant attitudes, its very discouraging. Management, please ask your wait staff to lose the foul attitude.

Some friends and I went to Noir recently after dinner to have some coctails and dessert. Many of us wanted to get hot drinks, like coffee with Irish creme. We were very rudely told by the waitress that Noir "does not serve hot drinks." I guess the cold drinks go with the icy attitudes.

I've only ever been here for drinks, and it is perfect for a small group of good friends. Have some nice drinks, chat, etc. Kind of a New York feel, or at least the best one can do in the area.

First of all, the drinks were wonderful (I had the blue cheese-stuffed olive martini and a mojito). The food menu was WAY too short, though, a couple of sandwiches and salads. The mood was broken by the occasional gaggle of conventioneers wandering in from the hotel lobby. The prices were high, but not shockingly so, particularly for the exceptional drinks, but we expected more quantity, variety, and creativity from the food for the cost. The atmosphere and character of the place changes dramatically as the sun sets, very mysterious, visually striking with red lights, black seats and tables, mirrors, and dark shadows. All in all, I liked it a lot, but I think I'll eat somewhere else before going next time.

This place knows how to care for their patrons. This is a bar full of diversity-costomers and staff. People there seemed to be having a great time. The staff is full of funny stories and jokes to keep us entertained, they are also great to look at! The dark atmosphere granted many couple to venture into the unknown! Alone or with a partner, it is a blast.

Noir is a fantastic bar on so many levels and has become one of my favorite new haunts in the Cambridge area as I find myself repeatedly drawn there after a tough day at work. The feel of the place is relaxing, sexy, and soothing, combining dim red lighting and a good variety of music playing in the background. The attention to detail both in preparation of creative drinks and the personality of bartenders/mgmt./staff, immediately makes you feel right at home...that feeling of "where everybody knows your name" comes to mind. Big Gary/ Tony Soprano(you'll know him when you see him) is one of the best as far as bartenders go... the price is worth the good drinks, conversations, and characters you're sure to meet at the bar!

After my second visit to Noir I became a fan. We sat at the beautiful marble bar lined with ice bins and chilled martini glasses. The bartender who looked like a giant-sized Tony Soprano was really great. (Sorry forgot his name) We had a few martinis off of their expansive list and really loved them.

the setting is really cool, it's a beautiful place. But, the drinks were lame--very fruity and sweet. Nothing complex or interesting. And the clientele! Very Cambridge: flannel shirted dude on one side, and a guy IN FLIP FLOPS! In NOVEMBER! on the other. So the gorgeous interior could not overcome what a silly experience it was. The ditzy waitress also didn't help.

The red and black lounge located on the first floor of The Charles Hotel in Harvard Square maintains a film noir motif via aptly named cocktails. The wine list is modest as most people come for the specialty drinks like Noir's Boudoir and…
