Ratings_icons I love this place!

Mug Lounge is the best! I found it a couple of months ago walking down the street. It is fairly close to my apartment so I come here all the time now! It is a great place. I love the mis-matched sixties style furniture. They have great wines and top shelf liquors. The staff is friendly and they remember me every time I come back! It is the perfect place to sit back, relax and have some drinks!!!!

Pros: Great atmosphere and drinks!!!

Ratings_icons Best Lounge around

ptomanel

I love driving into the city from Long Island, and I always know that there will be great people and conversations at Mugs. My friends and I can always find a great hot spot but end our Saturday nights at Mugs. If we are around during the week or early on the weekend we end up at Mugs. The music is always good, and the owner and his wife always treat us well. Stop off and enjoy a comfortable hanging spot!

Pros: Always find a spot to park, love the ambience, enjoy the people, this could be a romantic place, this could be a cool hangout

Ratings_icons Great place to drink and relax with friends

ironychef

You might not notice it at first as you walk along 13th St at Avenue A, but go inside Mug and you'll find a great place to relax and drink with friends. A few buddies and I stopped in last Wednesday night. We were able to find a comfortable corner for everyone to relax in. The $4 Red Stripes where just what we needed after work. The Reggae music was chill and just loud enough that we could enjoy the beat but still talk over it. After a few rounds we got hungry. They were serving amazingly good Jamaican jerked chicken for Happy Hour so we didn't have to buy any dinner. We used our cash to buy a few more rounds instead. After a while, some ladies showed up and we ended up having a little party in the lounge! It was the perfect night in the East Village. We'll be back for Reggae night.

Pros: Plenty of places to find a seat

Cons: Didn't look like a bar from the outside

Ratings_icons Avoid for Birthday Parties!

cl12345a

I booked my birthday party at Mug over two weeks in advance. The woman I spoke with was very accommodating and flexible with the party plans. The only requirement was a deposit to the owner to guarantee we would show up. I went to the bar during the owner's "working hours" SEVEN times over the course of the next week and a half to try and deposit the money, and every time I was told that the owner was not in, and that I would have to come back another day. After each visit, I called and made sure that nothing was going to be messed up as I had already sent out the invites, booked the DJs, etc. and they assured me it wasn't a problem. After my last unsuccessful visit, I called again, and was informed that someone had walked in that morning, put down a deposit, and now had the space on my night. They were totally UNAPOLOGETIC about it and left me without a venue THREE DAYS BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY. A TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT. I recommend steering clear of this venue if you want somewhere reliable to throw a party.

My friends and I kinda ran into Mug by accident when we were out in the Village. The drinks weren?t expensive and the wine list was really good. It?s got a cool, relaxed vibe?small, posh but friendly.

Ratings_icons Best location and service.

waiver

I love this place. I had the best time this weekend. The owner is down to earth and a great person. His wife who owns the hair salon next door is one of the nicest people I've met in a long time. I got my haircut there for a birthday party (which I went and was bored out of my ...)ended up at Mug lounge, OMG the place was packed after 2 AM, people started to come out of the woodworks. Anyway, if you are not sure where to go and looking for a nice place, nice people and conversation go to MUG Lounge anytime of the week. Highly recommended

Pros: Personable service and atmosphere.

Cons: None.

MUG is a tiny little space hidden in the Village. However, it works! It's so intimate and relaxing. It's a mix of laid back neighborhood cafe and a no frill lounge. I don't know what it is about this place but it just makes me smile from ear to ear.

Ratings_icons Hot Spot!!!

jackelynf

This place just keeps getting better and better! Having transformed many times over, it's headed toward perfection. Head to Mug for a cozy, intimate, warm, enjoyable place to pass your afternoon, or for a hot evening spot.

Ellen, the barrista, makes an awesome brown sugar latte, and her pleasant demeanor warms up the whole place.

Ratings_icons great laid back neighborhood spot

Mug cafe and wine bar is a terrific find in the east village. Located on 13th street between 1st and A they offer an eclectic variety of goods. From Fondue night on Monday to their excellent selection of wines and the best coffee in the east village their menu is strong from top to bottom. An added bonus is the wait staff, who are as friendly as they are capable. You will often find Ellen there during the day , while the owner Michael is tending bar at night. If you are in the east village and are in the mood for a good coffee or wine bar I highly recommend it.

Ratings_icons Best coffee in the East Village.

jargileproofylumberg

Definitely the best coffee in the East Village. They steam the cream (or milk) in every coffee - every time! It's delicious.
Great place to go during the day. Perfect for hanging out, relaxing, and enjoying the comfortable atmosphere. It is a daily ritual.

Pros: Ellen, coffee, cheap, good food

It's quiet and calm and not too popular..........yet. Ellen the coffee girl makes the best coffee. While other coffee places are crowded and too trendy Mug is like baby bear, "just right".

Ratings_icons HOME AWAY FROM HOME

buginout

I stumbled upon this super cozy and friendly East Vil wine bar when I moved onto the block from LA, and have been a regular ever since. The coffee is amazing and the wine selection is exploding with flavors from multiple countries that appease all taste buds. But the best part is the plethora of personalities that frequent the bar always looking for a fun chat. Come on in and I'll buy you a drink!

Ratings_icons Wish I could still go there!

I literally spent my last evenings in New York at Mug... It's a great hangout place with a wonderful atmosphere. I felt like being in my living room chatting with a bunch of friends... only I had met these people just a moment ago! Delicious snacks are prepared specially for you, service is super friendly and makes you feel at home, and the wine bar is fabulous! Try it out! I wish I still could!

Ratings_icons Best kept secret in EV

emmaclag

Not only is the house wine delicious it's about $4 - and that's not just for happy hour! Even more, this little bar (much closer to A than 1st Ave.) has a great vibe, quiet, definintely not crowded and comfortable. And, if you want, there are games (Scrabble) and internet, nothing like emailing your friends after three glasses of wine! And finally, the proprieters are genuinely good people who deserve your business.

Pros: cheap, good vibe, places to sit

MUG, my favorite hangout in the EV, is inconspiciously located on 13th street off the beaten path. You may not notice MUG at first as it's quaintly attached to the highly trafficked hairdo hacienda - Salon Zoia - but MUGs mellowness is actually it's best asset. The baristas - or owner Mike himself - make everything with care and a touch of home too. MUG is my favorite coffee place because they always steam the milk and prepare your java extra special, exactly as you ask -- the little touches are what makes the place special: like when they melt the sugar for your icecoffee or fresh squeezed lemonade so you don't get that gritty feeling in your teeth, or when they offer to make something yummier for you with a bit of a different twist like adding brown sugar or honey -- hey Starbucks never did that for me!

Ratings_icons I love Mug - so will you!

purrmews

As Mike, the owner, likes to say: "This is your home while you're here!" Im a long time customer of Mug, and Mike is right! The cafe is always buzzing with regulars. Its small enough that even strangers feel comfy talking to each other over a latte.
Best. Coffee. In. The. Neighborhood (secret: they always steam the milk, even for the house blend). The wine list is fresh and growing, from a basic chardonnay to aged ports (drink them with a dessert from resident baker Ellen Blum). Come by mornings for your caffeine and a pastry, or late nights for beer and a chat with Mike. This sounds like an advertisement it sort of is. I just moved out of the city and I really miss my regular hang out. I want more people to go and love it keep my seat warm while Im away!!

Pros: hip warm decor, sweet people, inexpensive
