So happy to have found a new salon! Excellent service here--cut and colored my hair exactly how I had asked. Very friendly, and very reasonable prices. Gave me a ton of free samples so I could try products at home before buying them. Would definitely recommend to anyone--left extremely satisfied with the outcome and can't wait to go back!

After years of parking battles on Newbury Street, I decided there must be a more convenient place who could still handle highlights, lowlights, and someone extremely picky about blond. My coworker recommended Kelly at Studio 291. I have now been seeing her for 2 year. She can do anything I request and the color is always outstanding. The cut is equally great. My hair is thick and she manages to cut it so I can easily style it straight how I like it. Not much more that I need to say. My friend is a 26 year old party girl and I am a 38 year old mom and we both feel great after seeing Kelly. I moved to Maine last year and I still come back. Kelly just joined Sylvester Franc in Newton. The salon is very nice and convenient. Also key is that I can often get in to see Kelly with short notice. I could never do that on Newbury Street.

I have been going to studio 291 for 2 years now. I was shocked when I couldnt find my stylist Kelly there anymore. After alot of searching I finally found her over at Sylvestre Franc in newton centere. Kelly is an great stylist, and im so happy to have her back!!! I reccomend her to anyone that wants highlights, or color in general!

I was very happy at Studio 291. I am new to the area and was looking for someone to duplicate what my old hair dresser had done. The cut and color were right on. My new hairdresser matched the color perfect and the cut was great. On a side note, Studio 291 is a very friendly and welcoming salon. I felt very comfortable there.

I thought to try this salon because it was well reviewed in Citysearch and much closer to home. I researched all the reviews and decided that although there were some unsatisfied customers (i.e. uneven cut, ten minute cut, etc.), I dismissed the reviews as unsatisfied customers which are typical in salon reviews (and maybe a little exaggerated). So here is my experience: The ladies (Kelly, Cindy and the staff) were exceptionally friendly and go out of there way to make you comfortable. I did not have a long wait nor was I ignored by the reception staff, which can sometimes happen on a busy day. The Hair Cut and Color: I regretfully agree with some of the dissatisfied customers. I felt that the stylist was unsure of herself when she was cutting my hair. The cut was no more than ten minutes and my hair was left uneven in places. (I do not care if a cut takes ten minutes or one hour, as long as it is done properly). The color processing was well thought out and turned out fine, but the execution needs some improvement. (I will not get into details here, as it may be a one time blunder). In short, I left the place disappointed. My husband insisted that I go back and have the salon correct the uneven haircut. I did not. Why not? Because I lost credibility in the salon. I would not dare have any stylist touch my hair after making such a basic mistake (as cutting hair without checking that both sides are symmetrical!) You know - the pull the hair strands on either side to make sure they are even test (not done even once). Since I did not have the time or the money to have my hair cut again, I found myself doing the unthinkable -- bringing scissors to my own hair to even out the front and writing this review.

I know the first step is to admit you have a problem. So here I go. My name is Natalie and I am a Blondarexic. I love my blonde hair and I won't cut it short. I have had many bad salon experiences. Either I turn orange or my hair has been fried. I have been going to Cindy at Studio 291 for a year now. My hair has never looked better. When I first went to her I have a brassy base color with highlights and my ends were VERY dry. My color is a light sandy blond now. She trimed my ends and put layers in. We lost alot of the damaged hair on the first visit. I listened to her advice and I don't regret it for a second. I always get compliments on my hair. A few of my co-workers have started going to Studio 291 now because of how great my hair looks.

This salon is priced like an expensive salon on Newbury Street, but it's really just a modest local spot. The person who colored my hair used chemicals on it that could strip paint, and when she was trying to match my existing color, she left a line in my hair between the new color and the old! The people are really nice, but I think it's overpriced for what you get.

I have never colored my hair before. I started getting a few greys and decided that I wanted them covered. I went to Cindy. She did a color that was an exact match to my natural hair color! It was perfect. No one even noticed that I colored it. It was just what I wanted! Its me 5 years ago. Thank you Studio 291!!!

I read all the wonderful reviews and decided to have my hair colored at this place. Making an appointment with the owner was a bit difficult. I waited a whole week although my hair needed to be done super fast as my wedding was sheduled just 2 weeks away. I was really hopeful that she won't mess up my hair but i was wrong. The owner couldn't even wash hair let alone to color!!! I couldn't believe that after 1minute of washing she didn't even rinse the back of the head...my hair still had shampoo on all over my hair. After this i already had a bad feeling about her! Well the coloring went just as bad. I got a completely different color i wanted. To make things easier for her she kept saying that the color will wash out and will turn into the color i wanted. I believed her and i guess i wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. I went back the second time so she can fix the color. Oh gosh, that was a big mistake! A week before my wedding i had pitch black hair (if you had black hair you know how hard it is to get rid of that color and not to mention the strain on your hair) and this time permanently! I was speechless. She didn't let me pay for that because she knew it was all wrong. Oh and while she was doing my hair she was talking about other costumers behind their backs. The other customer was just in the bathroom while she was commenting on her bad hair color preference.In conclusion, i would not even try this place out if you want coloring. I am not sure about the cuts as i didn't need any. Thanks to her i had to run to a professional hair colorist in Acton where they worked on my hair for 3 hours and still have to go back to get my hair back to normal...

I moved to the area within the past year and have tried 4 other salons in the area before coming here. I have had different variations of the same haircut for about 8 years and I know what I do and don't like. My hair is pretty short, so it's not an easy cut. Many stylists around here have come close, but Cindy gave me exactly what I asked for. i will definitely be going back there!

I have tried many hair salons and upon reading the reviews, I thought I'd give it a shot. I tried to shorter hair cut which I was very nervous about. Cindy, did a great job at paying close detail and ensuring me the cut would suit my hair. In past experiences, I've never loved a haircut upon leaving a salon, but I LOVEEEE the new style Cindy gave me. She payed very close attention to every little snip and cut, I really felt as though she wanted to make sure every strand was absolutely perfect!!! I brought in a picture and she did every I wanted. I can't wait for my next appointment. I highly recommend Studio 291, I will definitely be returning.

Studio 291 is the best salon I have ever been to. My daughter and I got the best hair treatments in the past two weeks. My daughter's hair was a challenge but Cindy stepped up to the plate and made sure that her hair is perfect. Cindy makes sure her clients are happy. She really likes doing what she does and it is reflected in how she treats her customers. When you want to look and feel great but you do not want the "Newbury Street" attitude go to Cindy's!

I had the same hair stylist for 20 years and after he retired I tried different places until a friend told me about Cindy so I gave her a try. Both Cindy and her staff are very professional. Since I've been going their she is very prompt on Appointments and she does an incredible job!

So far, so great. Color is nice shade of blond, cut is good as well. I am completely satisfied with results.
As someone mentioned before location is "out of the way", but it is definitely worth the drive.

I have never written a review before but I felt that I should. Studio 291 is just plain great. A few months ago I got a great new color and an easy and fun new cut. I just went back and got the same great service. In the months between my appointments I received a thank you card and an email with great discounts. I got a free conditioning treatment at my second appointment. Studio 291......nice people....nice work...nice deals. Enough said!

My daughter found this salon. She has been going to Cindy for a couple of years now. She kept telling me that I needed a new look and to make an appointment with Cindy. For xmas she gave me a gift certificate. (I took the hint) I finally made my appointment and went to see Cindy last week. I have to tell you I was very nearvous. I have had the same haircut that would be easier to measure in decades than years. I have also never had my hair colored.
Cindy greeted me at the door. She had me sit in her chair and took the time to discuss what I wanted. She made sure I was comfortable with each detail of my new cut and color. After looking at picture and color swatches we came up with a plan. Cindy highlighted my hair with 3 different colors that looked so natural and blended away the greys. The cut is great too. I have received so many compliments from my daughter, friends and co-workers. Maked me wonder how bad i looked before!?!
One other thing.....they use color and products that is sulfate free and veagan. I thought that was a nice extra.
I love my new style. Its pretty, easy to do and I feel younger. Thanks Cindy!

I went to Cindy this last weekend for my first time to get a wash, cut and process for the $75 first time coupon. I just moved to the area and normally go to high end salons like MichaelJohn in London, but was looking for something a little more affordable this time round. Reading the reviews Studio 291 looked like a quality but affordable salon. I had an excellent visit! I arrived about 20 minutes early for my appointment but was immediately ushered back for a wash. Mary washed my hair and had a little trouble getting the temperature right, but did a good job. Then I came out front and Cindy and I talked a little about what I wanted done and what look I was going for. The cut she did was fantastic, and the color was very good. But Cindy noticed I didn't think it was great so she took me back, washed my hair and started all over. (Make sure Mary washes your hair, Cindy is great for color but not so great at a wash - my shirt was drenched by the end) I was impressed that she would take the extra time to make sure I loved the new look without over charging me. She was very polite and accomodating. Over-all an excellent place to go. The 1/2 star would be for the decor. Don't go in expecting much. The walls need a new coat of paint and the floors a good scrub. In fact just don't look too closely at your surroundings and you will feel like you are at a luxury salon. Also Cindy does bring her small dog in to work which is very fun, but if you have severe dog allergies, probably not the salon for you.

I started going to Cindy at Studio 291 a little more than a year ago after moving to the area from NYC. I read the reviews and made an appointment with Cindy. I was shocked that I could get an appointment with the salon owner and not have to wait months on end. Cindy was fantastic. She gave me a spectacular cut and does great with my color. She's very talented and will listen to any concerns her clients may have. I'm really really glad I found her and am a loyal client. I'm just waiting for her to get an aesthetician started so I can get my eyebrows done there too and I won't have to bother going anyplace else. Great great salon.

I am writing this review because I depended on this site's reviews prior to making my appt. I had been going to Salon Marc Harris on Newbury Street. I booked a full highlight and cut with Cindy. She was great. Easy to talk to and she had good suggestions about my highlights. The salon is very small, but quaint. I was there on a saturday morning and most of the clients were over 70. I thought that was wonderful. It felt like this salon had a real commitment to it's neighborhood. Cindy did a nice job on my highlights and gave me a TRIM (we both agreed that was all I needed). So, nothing was 'wrong' with the services. I was surprised by the cost as I checked out. Cindy and I emailed each other back and forth a few times after because I felt it was only fair to discuss this with her first. I tried to place our correspondence in here, but it only allowed me 2000 characters...and editing our emails wouldn't have been a fair representation. The jist was that I based my appt. on the prices on the web site (go to Contact, then to Services). My bill (including a 10% discount) came in a lot higher than I was prepared for. The website showed $30+ for haircut. I was charged $54. (this was due to a blowdry which I would have assumed was part of the haircut price on her site). The highlight came in at $170, the website showed $130+. (this was due to the length of my hair (12 inches root to ends) and a $20 toner charge which again, I would have assumed was part of the price on her site, there was never a separate toner charge listed on the site). Total would be $224. I left a tip of $30 (it was less than 15%..but all the cash I had on hand). To Cindy's credit, she has since updated her prices and notes on the web site to reflect some of the charges I was surprised by...and she has increased her starting prices.She also told me via email that tipping the owner is not necessary.

I had been going to the same hairdresser for 8 years. She recently had a baby and decided not to come back to work. I was now left to find someone new. I had noticed Studio 291; I drive by everyday on my way to work. One night on the way home I stopped in and made an appointment. I was telling my concerns to the receptionist, about trying someone new when the owner, Cindy, came over. She sat and consulted with me. She made feel very comfortable about my appointment with her.
When I returned for my appointment a week later Cindy remembered every detail of our consultation. She went over everything again to make sure we were on the same page. The final result was perfect. She highlighted and low lighted my hair. It looks so natural. The cut is fabulous too. I have very curly hair and it is tough to find someone to give a good cut with my type of hair. I have gotten so many compliments on my hair. I even had a woman stop me on the street the other day to ask who did my hair. I highly recommend Studio 291!!!

Kelly is great! Always does a great job on my hair ? Highlights and cut. I have had many disappointing experiences before coming to this salon. Kelly is very personable, and committed to make her customers pleased with the results. My first time at the salon, Kelly had to spend lot of time on color correction and did an awesome job of getting the color highlights and style I wanted. I always get many compliments from co-workers and friends. Several times people have stopped me on the street to ask me where I get my highlights done. I highly recommend kelly

I have always had long hair. This past April I decided to chop it all off. I immediately regretted it. I missed my long hair!!!!! The new cut was cute, but not me. I met with Cindy and had a consultation for hair extensions. She sat with me for a half an hour to forty-five minutes and gave me all the pros and cons that were involved with the extensions. She let me know the type of commitment they would be. You could tell she took pride in her work and was not just looking for the quick sell. I decide to get them.... and I am so happy with my decision. They took a couple of days to get use to but I now have my long hair back. They look so natural. I have a friend who is a hair dresser and she was shocked at how natural they look and how well the hair matches my natural color. An added bonus.... I had straight hair put in but I can curl it with hot roller or a curling iron and the curls look great and hold all day. They were a great investment!!!!!!

Maybe this place is good for coloring, but for cuts it's worse than any "super cut"!!!
After reading reviews here, I was extremly excited to go to this place. I got in at 7pm, they washed my hair, I was in the chair at 7:10 and at 7:20 my haircut was done. I was so shocked and outraged that I coundn't even say a word!!! I normally don't make scenes, so I just left Cindy $7 tip and left.
Cindy was very slow when cutting my hair, and it felt as if she was picking out some random spots on my head and chopping some hair off ... She completely screwed up my bangs too, the only good thing is that they are too long, not too short.
There was ZERO effort in what she was doing, and ABSOLUTELY no attention to detail!!!

Also, when I made my appointment, I asked how much would it be for just a haircut (and I told them how long my hair was). I was talking to Cindy, and she said "30". When my haircut was done, then charged me $35! Why? I don't know. I was in too much shock to argue with anyone.
This is by far the worst cut I've ever gotten. I just wasted $42, but most importantly my hair is awful before a very important trip. I was very excited going into this place, and I was almost crying on my way to the car.

If you're in a market for a 10 minute cut, this is a place to be

I have had very fine hair my entire life that I was unable to grow long, due to drying, spitting and looking stringy. I had heard about hair extensions and seen how great they looked on stars like jessica simpson, eva longoria, etc., but they always seemed so expensive and out of reach. Then I heard that Studio 291 was newly trained in the SoCap hair extension process. After recomendation, I called for my free consultation. Cindy ,the salon owner quickly fit me in for a consultation where she informed me about the pros and cons of hair extensions truthfully and never made me feel pressured. Well, I decided to go for it and it was a great decision! Cindy dedicated her entire day to my hair extension transformation, being both gentle and efficient. I was AMAZED! I cant believe how real they look, I get compliments every day on how beautiful my hair looks, most people can't even tell they are extensions. I highly reccomend getting hair extensions to anyone with fine or thin hair or just to add length and body. I couldn't be happier with my decison and I highly recommend this Salon for not only hair extensions but any styling process. The staff is friendly and inviting,and the Salon has a great atmosphere! Months later, the extensions are still looking as great as the day I got them. Cindy is always there to answer any questions, and fits me right in for any touch ups or services I may need. Thank you so much Cindy, and Studio 291, you guys are a hidden gem!

Great , fun, casual place with terrific service! This place surprised me by how great the cuts and color were and yet had such reasonable prices and wonderful deals for return customers. But perhaps what brings me back is the warmth and humor of the stylists. It's like a big fun family and you are welcome to be a part of it if you are in the mood for some lively chatting.

Studio 291 is friendly,convenient, and affordable, but the best part about the place is my stylist, Kelly. I have been going to Kelly for quite a while now, and have never been more pleased with the recent cut and color she gave me. I received 10 compliments in one day on the color! Kelly is great at cutting your hair in a way that is always flattering to your face shape and hair texture. It is much easier to style a great cut in these hot summer months! I would definitely recommend trying this salon.

I just moved to the Metrowest area a year ago from NYC area and could not find a place for color near my home. I tried two expensive salons nearby and was not pleased at all with the honey-blonde highlights. As a last resort I made an apptm. at a salon on Newbury St - but changed my mind when I read the online reviews about Studio 291 in Newton. Cindy , the owner, spent hours correcting my bad highlights and also gave me a great trim. It is the best highlighting and cut that I've had in many years. Cindy is friendly, professional and talented. I highly recommend her and her prices are very reasonable.

This was my second visit with Cindy. The first time I was pleased. She is very nice - everyone at the salon is. Cindy was able to squeeze me in last minute and I guess this was her off day. In one instant the long hair that I used to have and was so happy with was gone. I had asked for highlights and I now have one side of my head with the right color, and the other (left side) with shadows and lines. I had asked for around two inches cut - even showed her where - saying "below the shoulder" (my hair used to reach a bit below the bottom part of my shoulder blade). She had suggested one inch and I had said two. What was cut was well over two. It now lies AT my shoulder and the front part on the left side is uneven. It had taken me so very long to grow to my previous longer length. Maybe this is no big deal to some, but, for me, it is quite upsetting.
Cindy took $10 off (total came to $113 with the discount) and offered to fix it with lowlights at a later date, but, I doubt I will take her up on this.

Mind you, I drive a lot for a living and this place was in a rather awkward location that took a while to find. However, when I got there I was pleasantly surprised by the urban feel to the salon. I was there for a one-process and a conditioning treatment - both of which turned out fantastically. If you don't have much time, I'd say at least try the conditioning treatments. I left with unbelievably soft and the conditioning treatment lasted a good 3-4 weeks! The staff is small but friendly and unlike many of the city-salons, not so haughty- making the overall experience rather comfortable. So besides the location, I'd highly recommend the place!

Studio 291 is the best place to get your hair done. I am a very low maintenance hair person and I was looking for a place that made me feel comfortable and offer professional advice. Studio 291 is where I got it. Cindy helped me with my hair color and gave me great suggestions based on my needs. Everybody that works there is extremely nice and makes you feel welcome. I've been working construction for many years now and I always wamted a haircut that looked just as good "dressed down" as it does if I go out for the night. I usually go to barber shops but they lack in style and its just too cut and dry. I've gone to hair salons and the ones I've been to I've never walked away completely satisfied....and I've always been extremely clear with what I wanted. Well anyway, I had just gotten off a job in Newton and I was driving by Studio 291 and I thought I would stop in...I liked the fact that it was open a little later than most places because I desperately needed a haircut. I walked into this salon and the cleanliness was outstanding...it made me look like I was homeless!!! However, the ladies here made me feel very comfortable....the young lady in front was all smiles and truly brightened my day. I was offered a seat and not but 15 minutes later a hairdresser was ready for me. Marisa was my hairdresser and she was incredible...I told her what I wanted and she said she knew exactly what I meant. Besides her hair dressing skills, Marisa was very pleasant and an absolute joy to talk to, she was young but very knowledgeable and skillful. My hair was finally done and the finished product was far exceeding my expectations...my hair was different and the look was very modern. I've gotten many compliments since then...even from my sisters (and they never like my haircuts). I'm really glad I I found this place...I dont go to Newton very often but I will make an extreme effort to go to Studio 291 again. Thank you to all the lovely people that are employed here and thank you for your professionalism and utmost respect.

I found this salon here on City Search and tried it after reading all their fabulous reviews. I was hoping
for the best but had more than a little trepidation, because here's my story. I went for years to a
Stylist/Colorist I loved, but when she decided to leave the business; I was LOST. First I tried other
Stylists at that same salon, but I was not pleased. I then tried many other places through the last few
years and at times felt it was adequate, but I still never felt excited. My hair has always been a
"challenge" to Stylists because of how thick, coarse, curly and generally unruly it can be and I have no
ability to do anything with it. I need a cut that needs almost no maintenance from me. When I have a
"Good Hair Day", it never lasts. I have been SEARCHING FOR SO LONG for the ease and enthusiasm I felt for my haircut many moons ago, but I think I finally found what i've been looking for...Cindy the Owner was
wonderful and LISTENS TO YOU no matter how long-winded or anxiety-ridden you are and I was both.
She first did a consult with me and then did a wonderful cut based on our consultation and photos I had
brought recommending some simple updates. The color came out great too and is very different than
what I came in with (much softer.) But the best part next to my loving it is that in the past two days since it
was done, I have gotten So Many Compliments from both women and a number of men (who as we all know tend not to notice these things.) Thanks Cindy for your time, patience and talent !

I've been a stay at home mom for the past 5 years. My daily fashion statement is usually jeans and a ponytail. I recently decided to go back to work. I wanted a new look for my up-coming interviews. I did my homework and after reading the other reviews for Studio 291 I decided to give them a shot. I was very nervous. I wanted something fun and new but still a style I would be comfortable with. I'm not 21 anymore. I didn't want anything to trendy. I love my new look!!!!!!!!!! I can't say it enough. I love my new look!!! I have gotten so many compliments. (it makes me wonder how bad did I really look before!?!) I got great new highlights(they used 2 colors), a shine treatment, and a new haircut. I love it its easy and fun. I felt very comfortable with everyone at the salon. Its a very friendly, and welcoming environment. 2 thumbs up!

I have always allowed my stylist to guide me with the direction of the cut & color of my hair. I usually provide a little direction, but mainly rely on their professional opinion- this has burned me more than once! HOWEVER, in the hands of Marisa I felt so relaxed and comfortable. She listened to what I didn't like about the current look and what I hoped for- she asked questions and in the end helped me determine what I wanted! The result was awesome! I was so happy with the color- which gave my dark hair a great lift, still looked natural and was easy to maintain. I can't say nicer things about the cut- Marisa mastered the style I had been after! The salon was cozy, tastefully decorated and everyone was friendly! I highly recommend Studio 291.

After reading such great reviews I expected a very different experience.

The salon itself was a lot smaller, and not as nice as I thought it would be
I met with Cindy the owner, and yes. she is very nice and in terms of the color she did a good job. My issue was primarily with the style. First my bangs were never even styled and just left to hang in front of my eyes. After I left the salon I noticed that the back of my hair was still damp and so by the time I got home my hair was frizzy. Just not what I would expect from a salong that compares itself to Newbury street.

I came to Studio 291 originally for a haircut and after Cindy did such a great job I returned for highlights. I had become too blonde and didn't want to get stuck in the same "circle of obvious roots", so Cindy listened to my frustrations and suggested a low light/highlight combination to bring back some of my original dark tones. The result was so natural looking, with darker shades infused, yet still gave me the blonde boost I craved! What was so nice was I felt Cindy really listened to what I was trying to achieve and created that effect. Thank you for the great look, Cindy. I look forward to my next visit.

I found this wonderful salon off the Internet and LOVED it. I came in to see Cindy the day off my birthday and I was looking for a dramatic change. I used to get highlights but I was ready to try a Jessica Simpson look. I was scared about the toll that would take on my hair, but Cindy was absolutely amazing. She did a double process on me and pulled a few highlights around the crown. My hair came out the perfect blonde shade. It was just like I wanted and it was just as soft and even more shiny!!!! Thank you!

I'm from out of state and been living in the Newton area for about a year. I have very light hair to start with an have been highlighting my hair for a long time. Since I have been living here I found it hard to find a stylist that could give me that natural look I wanted, untill I came to this salon...Marissa was the stylist that I had and she had an indepth talk about my hair before the process began. She noticed that I had a few diferent colors in my hair, and I told her I hated that !! I wanted to look soft and natural..I told her I was newly engaged and that I want to grow my hair and keep it very natural looking.. She was GREAT!.. One of the friendliest hair dressers I have ever had, the converstion kept going an I felt completly confident in her chair. She kept chatting away with me as she foiled my hair, at one point the salon owner even came by to introduce herself, which I thought was wonderful....At the end of my visit my hair was transformed into a shiny, beautiful shade of blonde! I couldn't be happier. Although I'm moving away from my new hairdresser.. I promise to send her all my friends .. Thank You Marissa, Ill miss you!

Studio 291 is a diamond in the rough! The hair professionals are so friendly, the inside is so cute with little gerber daises on every station, and you feel 100% comfortable and beautiful just being in there! Not to mention the fact that my stylist, Marisa Mikol, is amazing!

I have red hair, a little on the thin side with a LOT of wave to it, AND callics...not only can this girl pump up the red in my hair and keep people wondering if its natural or not with the highlights that she adds to it, but she has a gift when it comes to working with my hair...sooooo many stylists have no idea how to straighten my hair AND give it body, but Marisa has perfected it...and with her thick, coarser hair, you wouldn't expect her to be so good with mine...but she IS! She pays attention to my callics and knows just how to blowdry them to tame them down.

Honestly, I can't say enough wonderful things about how well she does my hair...I receive complient after compliment from strangers and friends alike after I leave the salon...and she seems to really enjoy being there and working there...but with a shop owner as friendly as Cindy, who wouldn't be?

I recommend to anyone who is looking for a new salon to reserve an appointment at Studio 291...they are sweet, professional, and they honestly listen to your desires and do your hair exactly how you'd like it...I feel confident that you will walk out of there feeling like a million bucks!

I've been to alot of different places over the last few years. This is definitely the most beautiful salon, where you feel comfortable with an ethereal atmosphere. It is so clean. No one talks inappropriately. The stylists are very professional not to mention beautiful. They were very organized. ( If they ran a bit late-that just goes to show you how busy they are. You wait 6 months for the best doctor, right?) I had a cut and color. The prices were much less that nearby salons and done perfectly. They consulted with me and made me feel 100% comfortable with what "we" decided to do. Cindy said to me ..."We don't want to hear "um ,yeah , it's nice...it's good " We want to hear " I love IT!" That's our goal and if not we'll make sure to get there." I can't say enough...there's no other stylist for me...

Pros: Parking good. Service excellent.
Cons: Not enough seating area...

I brought a picture of hair style that I wanted...color and cut. Cindy was able to replicate it and I received a ton of complements on it. I just recently went back to get Japanese Hair Straightening done. Not only does Studio 291 do a great job but everyone there is extremely friendly. I would highly recommend it!

I have been going to Studio 291 for a few months now. I recently went in to have my hair styled with my hair dresser Marisa. I had a party to go to and I wanted to have it loosly curled. When I was done it was perfect. I told her I would love to be able to have my hair do this everyday. She then refered me to Paul, the PERM MASTER. I has a consultaion and he told me that we could do a perm to achieve that look everyday with a lot less style time. I went back and got the perm from Paul and I love it. In the morning I just wash, put in the products that Paul told me to and its great. The curls were a little bit to tight first, which Paul told me they would. He said all perms relax after a few days. He was right. The curls loosend a little bit after just a few days.e I love the it!

I am absolutely delighted to share my story because everyone looking for a salon should hear about this wonderful place and its owner Cindy. A salon I will not name at the end of last week ruined my hair. I called Studio 291 on Sunday, figuring I'd leave a message and see if they could take me before my business trip. Cindy happened to answer the phone because she was in the salon doing some work. After hearing my story, she agreed to come in on her day off!!!!and fix my hair. She gave me a partial foil to break up the brassy, half-done highlights I had before and a conditioning treatment to make my hair nice and smooth. She also fixed the uneven haircut I had gotten. My hair was absolutely beautiful on Monday just in time for my Tuesday business trip. I would really like to commend Cindy for, not only doing a great job, but also taking that extra step in making sure her customer is priority.

I have to share my wonderful experience at Studio 291. I am an older woman and have been going to the same hair salon for 15 years. Sadly, my stylist moved away and I was left trying to find another place that i would like. Needless to say, I am very set in my ways. I walked in to this salon to try it out. Marisa listened very carefully to how i liked my hair cut. She cut it and styled it perfectly. She was a gem to talk to.I get my haircuts every 5 weeeks. I shall be returning to Marisa soon.

Studio 291 is the best! I have been going to Cindy for about a year and I won't go to anyone else-- she really listens to what her clients want, and she will cut, color, whatever, until you are completely satisfied. All of the staff is fun and freindly too. We have done fun color-- a magenta streak!-- as well as highlights and long and short cuts, and it comes out perfect every time. I have gotten so many compliments on my hair, and now all of my friends go to Cindy too. Even my boyfriend gets his hair cut by Cindy now! Studio 291 is an overall great experience and I recommend it to anyone who wants their hair to look great!

This was the story: my stylist called me the morning of my appt. to tell me she had to cancel it. I was devastated because I was getting married that evening and not only was she going to do my color, she was also going to do my updo. I went online trying to find a salon near me that I could possibly take me on such short notice. I was in tears when I called: they were sooo nice. My stylist ( who i found out was the salon owner as well ) did a full foil on me. My hair was beautiful with subtle blonde streaks all over. It was amazing. Cindy then had me flip through magazines to find the updo i wanted. I loved Charlize Therons Oscar updo but was not sure if that could be done. Cindy made it happen. My hair was perfect and my wedding day was complete. I honestly don't know what i would have done without her. Thank you!!!

My hair always comes first and I used to think Newbury St. was the place to go. The truth was that it was too pricy and parking was always a problem while the hair never really looked just right. I decided to try a new place i found online. I came to Studio 291. I had really dark roots and blonde ends. My stylist, Marisa suggested a hilight/ lowlight to even out my look, and take away that bleached blonde fake looking hair. My hair came out looking SOOOO natural and PERFECT! I've received many, many compliments and couldn't be happier. I'm definately coming back!

It was the week of my Sweet Sixteen !!!:):):) I got a gorgeous dress and great jewlery and I need a hair to match. I stopped by Studio 291 to check them out and see what kind of hair they did. I was shown pictures of the up-dos done by their stylist and I love it. They even had jessica alba's hair from the Oscars on one girl. How cool!!!!!!! I came in to see Marisa the day of my party. As she was doing my hair, she asked me what i was gonna do for make up. I said I wasn't gonna wear any because I didnt know how to do it . She said she would be more than happy to show me how becuse she wanted me to have " the most fabulous sweet sixteen" party. I had beautiful hair and makeup!

I am obsessive about my hair and I'm pretty sure I have been to every salon on Newbury Street. The whole Studio 291 experienced was wonderful. Cindy, who did my color, fixed the longlasting mistakes of hairdressers who charged about 3 times more! She worked with my color until she got it just right and never made me feel like I was overstaying my welcome. She even stayed late to close the store alone so that I would leave happy.

This salon was just as everyone had said, fabulous! This cute little salon just over the Watertown line into Newton was an easy place to get to. The staff was friendly, warm and helpful. Cindy, my new hair stylist...cut my hair exactly how I wanted it. This has never happened before. I'm already going back for to try out the color services less than a week later! My hair was absolutely ruined by another salon who refused to fix the mistake because it would take too long. I finally ended up at Studio 291, in Cindy's chair. She listened to me and understoon my frustration. She started her magic: coloring the roots and then foliing the ends to match them. Finally she applied my dream toner to my hair. Thanks to her, I am now a platnium blonde. This is my official thanks to her.

I was a nervous WRECK before my wedding. My day was fast approaching and one of the most important things about it- MY HAIR was not taken care of. I looked on the site to find salons that were clsoe enough to where I was getting married without having to go in and out of Boston. I did not need parking situation stressing me out even more.
I decided to stop by Studio 291 and check out the place. The owner ,Cindy was there and she immediately calmed me down by showing me photos of her work. My best friend needed her hair done at the same time, so Cindy introduced me to Marisa and showed me Marisa's handy work. I was very impressed. We did a trial run of a style I saw at the Oscars..it looked just like it. Best of all, the girls arranged to work on a day that they had off just to accomodate us!!!! Thank you Cindy and Marisa. I don't know what I would have done without you.

I'm easy. I have brown hair and I only want my greys covered. I tried Studio 291 and I loved it there. I had my appointment with the owner Cindy. I have been coloring my hair for years but I have never had someone explain to me what we were actually doing to my hair. I felt very comfortable that she was going to do exactly what I wanted and now I learned a little too. But the best part of the salon is the environment. This is a salon full of talented hair dressers who love what the do and truely get along. This is a no frills salon that is not about attitude, just good hair. It was an all aroung wonderful experience. Give them a try...you won't be sorry.

I get compliments on my color wherever I go. Everyone wants to know, "Who does your hair,?" I travel over an hour to get my hair cut and colored at Studio 291, I won't go anywhere else. Cindy and her team are amazing, friendly and professional - they really know their stuff!

Ever feel like you pay too much for mediocre color treatments and cuts? Well, go to Studio 291 in West Newton and you'll never feel that way again! Appointments are easy to get (they even take walk-ins), the service and attention to detail surpasses any other salon I've been to, and the prices are just right! Get on their mailing list and you'll get awesome specials and occassionally they'll even throw a purse party. That's right, knock-off designer bags at non-designer prices. Check it out . . . you won't be disappointed.

I was new to the area and I needed a place to get my hilites done so I went to Studio 291 and Danielle (one of the stylist) gave me the best hilites I had ever had. Usually, I am not totally satisfied but this time around , not only did I have a relaxing, comfortable experience but the staff was unbelievably friendly and attentive to my needs. What a find.......!!!!!

My hair was faded red with brassy, damaged highlights on top. The salon I used to go to kept re-touching my roots claiming the color will eventually start to stay in better. It didnt. It was even more damaged. Then I came to Marisa and she darken my entire hair making it shiny and healthy and then she added peek-a-boo highlights in the back for that extra pizzazz that I needed. I cant believe it- I have the hair color that I used to see only in magazines. I really can't thank her enough. She has a client for life.

I just recently visited this salon for the first time. I had a highlight, a shine, and a hair cut. I love the color, it was exaclty what I asked for. My hair hasn't looked this good in a long time. The salon is a cute little neighborhood salon that has a lot of hidden talent. I recommend making the drive out to Newton and visit Studio 291....you won't regret it.

The owner of Studio 291 Cindy Hines is absolutely fabulous. This salon specializes in color and I can't say anything bad about my experience there. I wouldn't go anywhere else for my hair. The staff are friendly and fun and the prices are great. Why go to a stuffy Newbury Street Salon when you can get the royal treatment for half the price.

I just moved to the area and was very nervous about finding a new hair dresser. I used to have my hair straightened back at home and did not know where to get it done around here. I went to Studio 291 and had both Cindy and Marisa work on my hair. I was a long process but totally worth it. My hair looks fabulous!!! My hair is straight, shiny, and looks healthier than it ever has. It takes no time to get ready in the morning anymore. I love it!!!
