Over the Easter weekend I decided to treat myself to a much needed facial and got the surprise of my life. Not only did I get the best facial ever but I found my new favorite place at LATHER Spa. Not only do they have the most beautiful spa, they also have the friendliest people, great snacks and OMG I love their products. They will be seeing me again.

I bought my friend a Lather pedicure for her birthday; when she went to get her treatment they had no record of the giftcard.
Although I was more than accomodating in working with them to get them documentation that this had been paid for (months before!), the manager was repeatedly rude, accusatory, and extremely unprofessional (and way out of proportion for such a small $$ amount).
Lather incorrectly processed their own giftcard, kept inaccurate accounting records and treated me awfully in the process... Please please go to a competitor where hopefully they treat their customers well both in and outside of the spa!

I bought my friend a Lather pedicure for her birthday; when she went to redeem the service they has no record of the giftcard. The services had been paid for, and hadn't been processed correctly on Lather's end.
Even though I was more than accomodating in working with Lather to resolve the problem, during the few days it took to get documentation to them, they were extremely rude and unprofessional, treating me like I was trying to scam them (over the huge sum of $70!)...
Please, go to a competitor where hopefully they treat their customers well both in and outside of the spa...

I went to Lather a few weeks ago and spent and had a bunch of great services, they were OK and the Therapists were so sweet. When I checked out I asked the Front Desk why I was paying sooo much Money for my waxing they seemed so clueless so I asked for the Manager, someone named Denise who was THE RUDEST PERSON EVER came to the front with a mean look on her face did nothing to help but offered a measly 10% discount!! I will never go there again and to top it all off I broke out with rashes from the waxing.

My first time at Lather. I had waxed my shoulders, neck and eyebrows. 3rd week after the waxing I still have breakouts everywhere. I did have really great eyebrows though.

I have been coming to this spa for almost 2 yrs and it's FANTATIC! I always go to Hayk for my massage (magic fingers) and Janice for my beautiful manicure. The cranberry manicure is the best. Lather also has a great lounge with this cool plant wall and lots of yummy snacks. This spa is truly a hidden gem in the city!!!!

My husband made an appointment for me to get a body treatment after work weeks in advance; however, they simply called and told me that my appointment was cancelled without any apology or explanation a day before! I thought that they would call me again to reschedule my appointment but they never did so I never went there. Who would pay hard earned money for a spa like that?

Lather is the place to go for an aromatherapy massage. I originally thought I wanted a deep tissue massage to work out the kinks and stress in my body, but after talking with the masseuse, she recommended the aromatherapy massage instead. So glad she did - thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.

Simply put: this is a wonderful spa! The environment is clean, simple and relaxing. The staff is low-key but attentive and well-informed. My facialist, Jessica was warm, funny and very good at her craft. When she was done, my skin just glowed; it hasn't felt as smooth and well nourished in a very long time. I purchased a few of the recommended products ( ultra mild facial wash & moisturizer) and I may never switch again.
My girlfriends and I went as part of our regular "Ladies Night" and were treated as if we were Lather's most important customers. I highly recommend this experience

I have been lucky enough to go to Lather Spa twice during Spa week, and I am heartbroken that they no longer participate, as this was clearly one of the best bargains in NY for an excellent spa experience. Everything they do is top notch and so professional from the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave. They provide EVERYTHING for you; a dressing room to change into a comfy robe and Crocs, a locker where you can keep your purse and jewelry, a GREAT waiting area where you can sip cute little teas and snack on cheese, crackers, fruits while listening to a water wall and reading US weekly or Vogue....what more can you ask for? Im sure they would have wine and champagne too if it was part of the wholistic experience, although unfortunately, its not. =( When its time for your service, they lead you upstairs to what seems like a Japanese inspired zen museum of relaxation. Its not like those other so-called spas that are converted 2nd floor apartments...this is the REAL DEAL! Im sure there are other spas in NY that may be more luxurious (think somewhere Ivana Trump would go), but for every day ppl like us, this spa fits the bill without being overbearing or stuffy or pushy. I had an aromatherapy massage the first time, where I was able to custom blend my own oils..it was AWESOME! The 2nd time I went, I got a facial, and it was AMAZING! Normally when you leave after a facial, you need to hide under sunglasses since your face is all red and marked up from extractions, but I was able to go out for drinks right afterwards, bc my face looked RADIANT! The next day was even better, because my nose never felt so smooth..what a difference extractions make! I went right back the next day and bought miniature size products of everything she recommended for me, and I havent turned back. Cant say enough good things about this place. Truly a WONDERFUL spa experience in NY, where theres a spa on every corner that is below standard.

I was given a gift certificate for a facial and aromatherapy massage. I was given a list of categories and popular scents for my massage, but the woman was a little rushed. Without giving me time to look over the choices, she indicated the shelf of scented oils behind the counter, and began asking if I was interested in "citrus, something something something?" It was a little overwhelming (it was also 9:40am on a Saturday, and we were in the front of the spa which is the storefront and people were around and I felt rushed) so I agreed on Citrus (which I do like, though when really thinking about aromatherapy I realized what I wanted was to relax, and I'd assume citrus invigorates, which is not something I'd like to feel for at least another full day). Anyway, it ended up smelling great so it worked out. I loved the robes and crocs they give you to wear, and the locker for my purse. The relaxation/waiting area was great, bright with colorful accents, a great "living wall" of plants and a fountain and a skylight which lets in a lot of light. It was peaceful but not sleepy. The massage therapist, Anna, was wonderful, really calm and professional and gentle but firm. The esthetician, Sima, was not as calm or peaceful but she was nice. She tried to recommend a couple products, but I politely declined (no $$) and she was respectful of that. I really liked that she explained everything she was doing, everything she put on my skin. That was helpful. One critique: I only know about the showers because someone on here mentioned them - no staff at the spa told me about them. I feel like I might have missed other little perks like that because no one informed me of them, which is a little dissappointing, but oh well.

Overall, this was a great and relaxing and professional experience, and I'll go back!!

I had a great time at Lather spa. All my services were wonderful. The best part was the mani/pedi. The stations are so beautiful. Each one has a small TV and DVD player. I watched Friends while sipping on a free glass of wine. The nail lady even added rose petals to the tub while my feet soaked in the water. I love this spa!

I went for a facial today, and it was the most horrific experience. She was so aggressive with the extractions, even though I said it was really painful, and now I have over 10 bleeding indentations on my face. It looks like Chicken Pox. I have an emergency appointment with my dermatologist tomorrow. I just really hope this doesn't scar! And to make it worse, she spent the entire time pushing products that I didn't want on me and she made some very rude comments about my skin. I felt the entire experience was scary and unprofessional, and I wouldn't get within 10 ft of the place for a facial ever again!

Lather is truly a gem. I went last night for Spa Week and everyone I encountered there was so pleasant. The entire place is quiet and instills a feeling of calm as soon as you enter. They have a nice waiting room with munchies and magazines. I love that they give you Crocs to wear while you walk around! My massage was wonderful. The staff helped me pick out the right armoatherapy oils to use and I think it really helped with the experience. And for the poster who complained about feeling slimy afterwards.....they have personal showers full of LATHER products, so you can clean yourself off....I don't know why you didn't just use it!! This place is truly a STEAL during Spa Week, and I will definitely be returning throughout the year. I have NEVER had such a great spa experience!

Lather Spa was an absolutely horrible experience. I actually left the spa feeling more tense than when I entered and couldnt wait to get out of there! The service was unprofessional as the greeter rushed me to the locker room. The locker room girl went into my room to change the robe/hanger before I was even done! The masseuse used so much oil that I felt slimy and shiny when I left. I was so oily that I didnt even want to put my clothes on afterwards. As she massaged me, she popped my bones back and forth. When I explained that this did not feel good, she claimed that these "knots" needed to be worked out and continued to do it. She also proceeded to use her oily hands on my face even after I asked her not to touch my face. This was after a drop of the oil from the bottle dropped directly onto my face and she didnt even bother to remove it. STAY FAR AWAY FROM LATHER.

I had a facial here with a friend for my birthday and it was fabulous. The space is amazing - love the plant wall with the water fountain - and the staff are superb! I met the spa director, Shauna, who was awesome. She gave us a tour of the spa and explained all the packages; she even helped me pick out some products - the bamboo lemongrass body scrub was my favorite. Shauna and her staff made my birthday so relaxing and memorable. We will definitely be coming back to this place! Thanks Lather!

Booked an aroma massage. I arrived about 20 minutes early, chose my scent and then got changed into robe and slippers. The service was very prompt and low key which i like. I then waited in the relaxation room, which was very cute, clean and designed well. instead of the dark and candlelight of many spas (which I like too), this was more clean with whites and bright colors, open skylight which is great view, and plants. The place has a great decor. upscale but clean, simple and cool design. the treatment room was very nice. a little darker is my preference, and I do like candles instead of a dimmed light. massage was terrific, clean sheets and comfy table, and she focused where I told her. I love massage (and I am a masseuse) and my girl was great. great perk of choosing blend you want, and then they give you the rest of the personalized bottle. the only thing that could have been improved is that there were people (staff maybe) talking in hallways by treatment rooms, which was a little distracting. there should be no talking up there, or whispering only, since it is seperated from rest of spa. also, the hardwood floors which is nice, the roller chairs the therapist uses makes lots of noise, so I think they shoudl switch to non-roller ones. besides those 2 complaints, all in all a nice spa experience. not super luxurious..(no steam, and small changing area etc), but very mellow, relaxing and professional. I would definately go back.

I just want to say thanks to the staff at Lather Spa. My wife and I were in the city during the same time as your Spa Week. She suggested we take advantage of the deals since she always gets spa services elsewhere and it sounded ok to me especially after running all over the city all day. It would be a good way to relax for us together.

When I walked in I wasn't sure about the place because it seemed a little chaotic; very busy. However, we were both greeted warmly by the staff; our appointments were confirmed and we were shown to a very comfortable waiting area with a great wall full of lush, green plants where staff members offered us light snacks and drinks. That was a great way for us to relax in our robes while we waited for our facials, massages and pedicures. My wife got a manicure as well. Even though we had to wait just a bit of time over our schedule appointment; maybe 10-15 minutes, the staff constantly kept us updated and always asked about our comfort or if there was anything else they could do while we were delayed. Nice touch!

Overall, the prices were great; the staff was totally accomodating even during a very busy time for them, I'm sure and the enviroment was a really nice way for my wife and I to unwind after a busy day in the city.

Thanks again.

I went to Lather spa for Spa Week and I really wished I hadn't. I had an aromatheraphy massage which was suppose to be an hour and I was only massaged for 40 minutes, also I read in there brochure that you get to select an oil, well why didn't I get to select an oil... I don't know, I've been to many Spa here in NYC but even the service sucked! I went downstairs to change, this lady who couldn't speak english grabbed my ticket from my hand and rolled her eyes at me. When I went to go pay, the girl told me they were closing and I had to pay. I requested to speak to a manager about my massage and this guy was so rude... He basically said it was MY FAULT for arriving late when I arrived early! Poor Management, Mean Staff, Dead plants everywhere! Not Recommended at all.

i arrived at the place to get an aromatherapy massage. the place is a store when u walk in BUT u go downstairs for the spa. when i arrived, i was told to pick the essential oil scent that was kinda fun. after i picked the scent, they gave me the bottle and after the massage i got to keep it. the changing area is small but very comfy and nicely designed. the robes are plush, soft and wonderful. then they took me upstairs to the "lounge". its a waiting area which has cheeses, crackers, different cookies, cucumber infused water, teas, coffee, water and juices and magazines. i was there for about 15 minutes ( i came early because i wanted to just chill for a bit) then i met with my masseause and they took me to the room. the room was a little too bright for me, but other than that, it was good. it was aromatherapy massage i guess swedish more so. i would have wanted a little more pressure but it was ok. it was very nice to just relax.

Cons: bright massage room, not enough pressure for massage

I am not one to be picky about cheap spa deals but this was beyond awful. I went here for a Spa Week facial and I couldn't have been more disappointed with my experience. The staff there treated me as if I was completely unimportant. My appointment time came and went and 30 minutes after I was supposed to be taken for a facial, no one had come and told me what was going on. I had to ask TWICE to see what was going on and where the technician was. When I was told, that she would be right down I thought, Ok fine. 10 minutes later, I asked again and the woman who I asked said that they didn't know where my technician was and they were going to look for her. UHHH HELLLO?!?! After hearing that, I decided that if this is how the technician is going to treat her clients, I would rather not trust her with my face. So I decided to take a shower and leave. But in the shower there was NO hot water...it was warm for 30 seconds and then right back to freezing. Not to mention that the entire time I was waiting for my appointment there was a party of 13 year olds screaming and giggling in the lounge. SO not relaxing. After speaking to the manager who was extremely rude to me, I told her that this is completely unacceptable and a poorly run business, all she would do is snootily say "I apologize, it is Spa Week and we are trying to accomodate everyone" (obviously everyone except for me....) if spas are synonymous with relaxing than this place is not a spa. I have had wonderful experiences at other spas in New York (Bliss being my favorite) many many times. Lather is not worth a visit in my mind. The only good part is that I was smart enough to leave before I undoubtably had a terrible service.

Pros: they give you cheese and crackers, I guess. Also tries to look like a posh spa.

Cons: Customer Service, Scheduling, Cold water in showers and teenage birthday parties in the lounge. Pretty much everything.

I just went here for spa week and its an incredible deal. Got the signature facial and aromatherapy massage each for $50. The space is very nice and calming and the waiting room has juices, teas, cookies, cheese and fruit, which was nice. My facial was great, each product was described to me and I felt no pressure to buy, though the products were placed at the counter for me, if I did want to (which I did anyway). My massage was great, I described my back problems and they were focused on very well. At first, I thought my back pain would still be there because it didnt "hurt" like other massages had... boy, was I wrong, it didnt hurt, but afterwards I had almost no back pain at all! I didn't even know that was possible. Overall, a lovely experience, and I will be back even when there isnt such an amazing discount.

Pros: spa week discount is impeccable! great facial and massage!

I booked a facial at this spa at the suggestion of a friend who came and had a great experience. I've only had two facials before this, and while both were good, neither offered the pampering I had here. While I waited for my therapist, I relaxed in the lounge and snacked on the cookies they had out, which I thought was really fun. I met my esthetician - Marlena - and she evaluated my skin and customized the facial for my skin type. I really liked that she answered my questions and recommended products, but wasn't at all pushy like the facialists I have had before. I left absolutely glowing - to the point that various friends commented on my skin that night AND the next day! I would definitely go back - either for another facial or to try something else. It was a great experience.

The first time I experienced Lather was when I was visiting the LA area and went into one of the two Lather retail stores located on the west coast. The products were great, so I was very excited to hear that they also have a spa/retail combo store in NYC, which is where I live. I visited the spa one day for a facial and a massage and it was a very enjoyable experience. The front desk employees were very helpful and the front area smelled delicious from all of the Lather candles and products. The "relaxation room" was indeed very relaxing. I've tried a few different facials at different spas in the area, but this was the best one I have had so far... the therapist was very gentle and I didn't break out afterwards like I usually do. My massage was heaven on earth and didn't leave me sore at all, even though the therapist got all the kinks out of my shoulders. I also liked how you could choose your own custom oil blend when you check in, and then you get to keep the remainder to take home. After both treatments I took a shower in a cool waterfall-like shower with some of the their own products. I would definitely recommend this spa and I look forward to my next appointment.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Went to Lather Spa after having used some of their products. Arrived for my appointment about 15 minutes early. The staff was friendly, but not overly so. They led me to the waiting area, which was serene, but uncomfortable. The chairs were stiff and not at all relaxing. Then, the waiting began. My appointment time came and went, with no visit from any staff member to tell me the approximate wait. Fifteen minutes past my appointment time, I had to walk into the front, store area to find someone who could tell me how long I would have to wait. They told me it shouldnt be much longer. I waited another 15 minutes, maybe 20, before ever being seen. In the meantime, the front desk person "informed" me that the woman with whom I had booked an appointment had been running behind. Any good spa would have informed me of that before I relaxed in the waiting area, and at the very least, before 30 minutes past my appointment time had elapsed. The services were great, no complaints there. BUT, and this is a big one, they charged me 200 percent more than the price on the price list and on line. When I inquired as to why the price was so high, they told me that they had changed prices and it was not yet reflected on line. There was a price list, many of them, on the pay counter, which also reflected the price I had seen online. They charged me more than double that price. All this after waiting more than half an hour past my appointment time for my services, and with no real reasoning or apologies. And no one told me of this "price increase" when I booked the services, or when I checked in, for that matter. I am an attorney, and could have fought this illegal pricing, but did not want to waste one more minute of my time with what was in my opinion, the worst spa experience ever.

One of the best spa experiences I've had. I arrived early for my massage so I could customize the scent of my massage oil (choosing from their many essential oils). I then changed into my robe and Crocs and waited in the lounge while sipping some tea.

My aromatherapy massage was just the antidote for the stressful day I'd had. My therapist was pleasant and an great with deep-tissue massage.

I can't wait to go back for another treatment.

I went to LATHER for Spa week, and tried the Aromatherapy Massage. It. Was. Simply. Fantastic.
I chose a blend of eucalyptus and another oil, as the therapist suggested it to alleviate sinus problems during the massage, and it worked! At first I was worried that the scent would be too strong and interfere with the service, but it just enhanced the experience - not distracted from it. Natasha, my therapist was amazing. I don't know what she did but I left feeling "like buttah". I would definitely return, and maybe try some other blends just to mix it up. Oh, and I got to keep the rest of the oil, which I thought was a nice touch.

I went for a massage for spa week - and while the facility was pretty clean (although the hair in the shower was kinda gross) and overall the staff was friendly, the guy who was supposed to help me pick out the oils seemed impatient that I was taking my time and didn't go for his suggestions, and the worst part was the male masseur I had gave me a bruise so bad on my lower back it's swollen like a goose egg and hurts to lie down on my back. Probably my bad luck but I would still beware.

I went here for spa week, and what a great choice! The check-in staff was friendly and helpful in picking out scents for my aromatherapy massage. The robe and crocs were super comfortable, and they had a beautiful little waiting area with a calming waterfall of plants and flowers. My massage by Alex was amazing, he was great about asking how the pressure was throughout, and I loved their shower with the rainfall set-up. It was so fun to use their products in the shower and the changing area, and no one rushed you, I was welcome to sit and have another cup of tea even after my massage was over. I've been to a few spas in New York, and this one is my favorite so far!

I went because of Spa Week! Thank god I chose Lather spa because it surpassed every one of my expectations. I had an hour massage with Natasha and it was amazing. The facilities were immaculate, quiet and beautifully designed. Natasha draped well, focussed on all of my tight muscles and was quiet as well- I needed that. After my massage, I was escorted to a heavenly shower- a bonus which I never expected! Next I had my facial with Sasha- who is amazing. (I had a Bliss facial once and it was horrendous compared to Sasha's hands and expertise.) I never experienced such a professional environment- everyone was on point. Highly recommended.

This spa is lovely - absolutely gorgeous. I had the Aromatherapy Massage where I got to custom-blend my own massage oils, and it was seriously the best massage Ive had in such a long time. The price was extremely reasonable as well.
