We moved our 2 bedroom apartment from Coral Springs, FL to Jersey City, NJ 2 weeks ago (early June). Our contact person was Samuel Kipnis at the Miami office. He was very professional and courteous.
They stuck by the rate they quoted, the extra costs were because I underestimated the number of linen boxes, and because in my Jersey City apartment, the total distance that the movers had to walk was more than 150 feet. Every extra 100 feet are charged at $0.15 per sqaure foot. They also "recommend" a tip totalling 10% of the move cost, 60% of which is given to the packing crew, and 40% to the unpacking crew. These were the only extra costs and they added about 15% to the overall cost.
The 4-man crew who came to pack in Coral Springs were really good. The group leader, Danny Veritas, was professional and courteous. The crew was also courteous and careful in packing. All our stuff, including LCD TV, glass items and fragile items, came without any damage whatsoever. There were some really minor scratches on the sofa set, but maybe that was not caused by them...
The unpacking at the Jersey City end was not as good as in Coral Springs, but it was not bad either. I think this was because they sent only 2 men, and they had to walk a fair distance, so they must have been tired. They did a good job of figuring out a way to move our sofa into the apartment.
The only problem was that they broke an Exit sign in the building while moving the stuff. I was disappointed that they did not bother to mention this to me. I am still waiting to see if my building management will charge me money for it.
All in all, I think for the price I paid (total approx. $3500 for a 2-bedroom move, including tips and $200 for extra insurance from movinginsurance dot com) was quite reasonable. Most important, nothing was broken. Looking at the other reviews, I think maybe it's also the luck of the draw based on your crew, but I would highly recommend FlatRate.
Pros: Very good service, punctual and professional.
Cons: A little expensive.
