In Short
Lofty ceilings accentuate the lavish, red-drenched walls, but the jukebox, pool table and dartboard maintain M1-5's neighborhood tavern vibe. The cryptic name refers to the bar's zoning code. In the 1960s, the city allowed artists to live in this light manufacturing district, given that they manufactured art. Fortunately for local artists, $5 beers and cheap drinks allow patrons to enjoy the elixir of inspiration at a fair rate.

Key Points

  • Lots of Room 4 Parties,
  • Always Friendly Atmosphere
  • Delicious Food and Catering

Perfect Place for Birthday Parties and Events!!

by janinejust

My friends and I love this place. The staff here is so friendly and accommodating and the DJ gets the crowd going. I've held a few birthday parties for my friends here. There's no hassle at the door or long lines to wait in. It's a huge space with a stage that's great for corporate events too. Yes, I've had a couple of work happy hours here as well. Overall, it's a great bar that I'm glad I discovered.

Pros: Inexpensive drinks and overall fun place to have a party!!

love this place!

by betha119

I recently went to a complimentary happy hour at M1-5 and was pleasantly surprised with this place! the space is huge, the staff was great and the drinks were poured with a heavy hand (not typical for free drinks). it seems like this place would have an annoying policy with bottle service, etc. but it was quite the opposite. The only drawback is the location since I never even knew there was a Walker st. in the city. If you can get over finding the place i would definitely recommend it for parties, happy hours, etc.

Pros: huge space

Cons: location

Helpful staff during event

by danajgirl

Held a technology event at M1-5 last week. We found the management and staff to be very helpful. It was easy to setup the party and everyone was very accessible when we need something. Also, the space was very condusive to what we needed to do. The space is big, and a little tough to fill up, however, it was cozy enough to feel comfortable in.

Pros: Staff and space

Cons: Very big

Cheap Happy Hour drinks

by 4evayoung2

Brought my company over for a going away party for one of our employees last thursday. We called ahead and reserved the front lounge. Drinks were really cheap and there was plenty of room for us to mingle.

Pros: Cheap Drinks, $3 bud lights in Tribeca

Cons: None to think of right now

Loved this Place

by greekgal

We went out for a Bachelorette party this weekend with 22 girls and all 22 want to go back. The space is really nice and the people that work there are great. We breezed in with ease and had a great time while we were there. It wasn't crazy expensive and it was crowed but still gave us enough room to dance.
We plan to go back with a smaller group this weekend.

Pros: Great open space and large bar

Great time at birthday party

by donb1

Had my birthday party there this past Saturday night. Place was great, staff was nice and we actually got to meet the owners who instantly bought us Soco Lime shots. It was easy to make a reservation and we didn't have to do some crazy bottle service. Everyone got in the door without a problem. I'd never heard of this place before, but it was packed and the music was awesome. I'll probably be doing my party here again next year.

Pros: Staff, ease of booking party, size of space

Cons: In Tribeca, lots of people.

Are you ready for some Monday Night football?

by danaltieri

With Buster's Garage long gone, I cast about looking for a spot in TriBeCa to watch a little NFL on Monday nights...look no further! M1-5 has various drink specials on offer, great wings and snack food, with a HUGE projector to watch the game. Not to mention with almost 5000 sq. feet of space and a great staff you are sure to find a spot to watch the game comfortably and get all the drinks you need to celebrate or drown your sorrows depending how your team is playing. It is off the beaten path a little bit, but you will be rewarded with bartenders that are friendly and fast and an all around good time. They rent the place out for events, so if you want to have an office party happy hour they can set up a custom experience you would be sure to love. I can't say enough good things about the place - just go and enjoy, you won't be disappointed!!

Nice time at my birthday

by sallyrides

Had my birthday at M1-5 last weekend. My guests were treated well by security and we were given some drink tickets and a bottle of champagne. Place wasn't crazy crowded, but I guess it was July 4th weekend.

I think I will have my b-day party again there next year.

Pros: Very nice staff

Cons: Could have been a bit more crowded.

Fantastic for a Birthday Party!

by Yodaman

Had my party there with a friend recently and the place was great! We had about 50 people or so and there were no issues with anyone getting in or anything. There was a good balance of guys and girls but they all came separately and none were hassled at the door about buying bottles/bringing girls etc. Go here if you are looking for a place that isn't pretentious, overpriced, annoying, over-crowded.
Nick and Serge made it very easy to like the place and the atmosphere. The ease in booking the party, the booth, the size of the place was very much appreciated. Nick even hooked it up with a complementary bottle of Moet!
The only thing is that it is a bit out of the way but it is worth it. The music was really good. The place was comfortably packed while leaving ample breathing room.
Excellent place to have a birthday. Thanks guys!

Pros: No cover, no attitude, atmosphere, space

Cons: Location

Spacious. Good for parties.

by lawgirlt

I think that this spot is making progress. I like that it is huge - big enough that they even have occassional rollerskating night! There are plenty of little spots in the area. M1-5 is a change of pace. Late at night the DJ steps it up and you've got a nice big dance floor to work it out. It's still a little rough around the edges, but I wouldn't write off. The staff is friendly and the mgt is hands-on. Great for parties.

Pros: Big space. Friendly staff

Cons: Still working out the kinks

Hot Scene

by prock1

Was at M1-5 on Saturday, April 5th. The place was rockin. I had recently started hearing about the place, and decided to check it out. Even though it was all the way in Tribeca, it was worth the trip. The place was packed with beautiful people and the music was great. Thank god I got there early, because I got to avoid the monster line that was forming outside.

Pros: Great crowd

Cons: Had to get there early to avoid the line.

Amazing birthday party

by jennaj2

I had my birthday party at M1-5 this past Saturday. I brought a group of 50 people (half of them guys). We had reserved two booths. Upon entering we were promptly greeted by the owner, Serge. He showed us to our seats and quickly dragged me to the bar for some complimentary soco lime shots. The crowd was great, the music rocked, and we were treated like royalty. For a change, I think we found a lounge that actually likes their customers. Anyways, I'm having my birthday there next year again.

Pros: Great service, excellent staff

Cons: None that I can think of

Bad Management = Doom.

by Wizzane

Hello everyone first and foremost M1- 5 has a great lay out. My only problem with the club is it's current manager. He is a snob who talks down to the patrons. He is also running a segregated calendar. The club simply does not have Hip-Hop events because he does not like them, not because it's bad for business. I don't know who put this guy in charge but with management like this the spot may be doomed.

Best Birthday Ever!

by deary

I had my birthday party here last night and everyone had an amazing time! I had made arangements with the manager Serge earlier in the week to have a table, but when my friends got there (before me...I'm always late) my name apparently wasnt on the list and we didn't have a table. I feel like anywhere els ethis could hav eturned into a nightmare, but security didnt give them a huge problem and they got us a table anyway! Music was great, drinks were not overpriced and the space was perfect! Not too crowded and not too empty. I definitely plan on going again and maybe having my birthday here next year.

Pros: Decor, Service, DJ

Cons: Location, only because its not really close to a lot of other bars

READ THE REVIEWS - SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD PLACE TO PARTY AND THE PLACE WAS A LET DOWN LIKE NO OTHER !! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME! WENT LAST SATURDAY AND WAS HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!! IT WAS EMPTY , STINKS, ATLEAST THERE WAS TOLIET PAPER IN THE BATHROOM -

CANAL ROOM IS A MILLION TIMES BETTER (2 BLOCKS AWAY) WENT TO M1-5 TO PARTY AND I FELT CHEATED - SAD BECAUSE THE PLACE HAS POTENTIAL BUT YOU CAN TELL IT'S NOT RUN RIGHT - DRINKS WERE OK, WEIRD SETUP. I'LL SPEND MY MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE!

ADVICE : GO TO CANAL ROOM IF YOU'RE IN THAT AREA!

Pros: Parking, Mcdonald's around the corner

Awesome place to have a birthday party

by calicojohn

I am having my birthday party there this year again. I have it there every year. No matter how many people I bring, they never feel crowded or unwelcome. There are no pretentious lines at the door, no cover charge, and noone judging you based on your clothes or looks. We come every year and have a good time and hoping for the same thing this year. If management reads this, please make sure you keep your high standards. My party is on Sept 22nd.

Pros: Lots of space to move around

Amazing atmosphere and premium customer service

by jzborovs

M1-5 is great for throwing parties and events due to it's incredible ambiance and ability to create a comfortable environment in a huge space. It has plenty of VIP space for those who enjoy privacy in their nightlife experience. While it is a great sports bar by day, it turns into an beautiful lounge by night with a huge projection screen that serves many purposes. You can always rely on the drinks to be delicious and worth your money and great customer service to go along with it. The MySpace webpage is also very informative with pictures and events for the month.
Definately worth checking out.

Pros: Accomodations for parties and events

Cons: No food yet

The kitchen has opened recently, and the food is amazing ! The rice-balls are the best I've ever had, not to mention the homemade chicken flingers, and the pulled pork sliders ! they also have a catering menu with all kinds of different dishes that the cook there makes for bigger parties. It's a great place to eat, and a great place to have a party! !

Pros: huge layout. Amazing food ! Stiff drinks, good promotions, lots of seating, lots of room, Huge TV on the wall that you can see from anywhere in the bar, easy to get to via the train,

This was a great find, I had heard about it a couple of time before and finally decided to check it out.
Nice all around. We were a party of 10 (6 guys and 4 gals) and got it without the hassle you find at other places, once in we were welcome by a cozy, warm, palatial place. Big bar, great service, bumping music, and fun times.

Great space, great staff, great parties

by may100

I've been to M1-5 a number of times and I've always had a great time. The space has a great layout for anything from the chill hangout with a pool table and big screen to the upscale bottle service and dance party (they move the pool table). I recommend that you find out in advance whether they're having an event that night so that you don't walk in wanting a jeans and T-shirt evening only to find a dressed to the 9s crowd or vice versa. The door and bar staff is super friendly, a trait they apparently get from the managers, who are often happy to have a drink with you. The managers also are really helpful if you want to throw your own party. I was there for the Halloween party last year and it was amazing -- awesome crowd, yet I never felt claustrophobic. A place that should be on anyone's regular visit list.

Pros: space, staff, events

Cons: sometimes has one type of event when you're in the mood for something else

SO MUCH FUN - couldn't believe the prices.

by nycrules2007

SO much fun...anyone complaining about the prices at THIS place- are not from NYC. It is BY FAR the most reasonably priced drinks you'll find in manhattan...much less TRIBECA. This is a place you come when you just want to hang with your friends and have an un-pretentious good time. Very refreshing attitudes overall..very friendly service, but without all the cons that an easy-going atmoshpere usually has (like country music, and boxed wine.) DJ's are ALWAYS off the hook- they have awesome specialty drinks, and awesome wine which I appreciate as a wine drinker! If you are in the mood to dance to good music, drink good drinks, without the hassle of guest lists, and having to wear your best dress it's an awesome break from the meatpacking. (For now at least- before everyone else finds it.) Oh- and this doesn't mean you shouldn't dress to impress. The crowd was awesome...and everyone looked good - think your best jeans over your best suit/black dress and you'll fit in perfect ;) For now - it's nyc's best kept secret.

Great Space, fair prices and great atmosphere

by mamba003

Great bar, good music and great space. While I read some of the previous reviews, I wanted to see for myself what M15 was about. Well all I can say is - it was a great time. The bar is huge with lots of space and never too crowded. The staff is friendly and seems to want serve you rather then some of the other places I have been. Looks like they have recently done some upgrades to the bar and table area which look nice. They have also recently added an appetizer menu which was a nice surprise since I read there was no kitchen. Overall, I would highly recommend this spot for casual drinks or for large events

Great place and a great crowd.

by pepcity

Every time I have been to M1-5 there has been a great crowd and a good mix of people without any pretentiousness. The service is good (friendly bartenders) and the place always plays good music. The place is pretty large so it does not feel cramped even with a big crowd. It's definitely a great location to have a party or event, or to watch a game on their big screens. I can't wait to try the new food menu, I hear it is really good.

Awesome Space

by partyboy3

From the appearance on the outside, I had no idea what I was walking into. Thinking it was gonna be a dive bar, I was happily surprised to see a huge romantically lit lounge. The place had to have at least 150 people in it, but it wasn't crowded at all. I was there this past tuesday for an adult film release party and did notice a bit of drama. One of the managers had caught a couple of people drinking from their own flask. He should have thrown them out, but chose to let them know what they were doing was wrong. This is much more tolerant than other places I've seen in the city.

Anyway, I had a great time, but how could you not at an adult film release party. :)

I'll be back with bells on.

Pros: Bartenders, Drink Prices

Cons: No food

I don't know what bar the people below are talking about, but it's not the one I went to this Thursday. Two awesome Rock bands played great cover songs. The crowd was young and fun. The service was extremely friendly, starting with the doorman all the way to the manager who went out of his way on a busy night to have a nice conversation with me. Pros: Friendly Service, room to move.

the most disapointing place i've ever been. place was empty on a saturday night. DJ was blasting 80's to top 40's then 90's then back to the 80's. there was only one bathroom running out of three! our group had to leave and move to place with better music.

Pros: parking was easy and subways right there

by digdig

We celebrated my girlfriends birthday there. We all add a blast. We had food catered, and the DJ was playing all 80's 90's music, so we danced all night long.
M1-5 is a great place to celebrate a birthday party as a lot of the bars/clubs could not accommodate a party for 150 people.
I would recommend this place for people interested in parties, and having an all-over good night.the bartenders are also HOT!

Pros: service, cheap drinks, Great sapce

Cons: no food

A mess

by tender_branson

I was so baffled by the fact that a place like this exists in NY that I felt compelled to write a review. Everything about it was off. From the overly loud music, coming from a cheap PA system, to the creepy red wall paint and long bar wait (despite the fact that the place was not packed at all - on a saturday nite?!) Best thing about it is its proximity to much better bars. If you are really curious, just stop by after work for a drink - save yourself the trouble any other time.

Pros: Cheap Drinks

Cons: Bad Sound System, Long Bar Wait, Bad layout

just above average

by superurbane

anyone who says that drinks here are expensive must be bridges-and-tunnels, or MAJOR out-of-towners. with $4-5 beers and drinks which cost max of $10, it's SO standard. plus, considering it's in tribeca, it's rather cheaper than most other local establishments. so if you can't afford it here, go back to your regular, kids-swarming dive. by no means i think this place is going to be the hottest place in the city, but its chic yet unpretentious feel is a precious find anywhere.

Pros: atmosphere, price, crowd

Cons: occasional emptiness

I went to this bar on a Saturday night with 20 people. There were a grand total of 25 people in this large bar. The atmoshpere had potential, but there was absolutely nobody there, and this is downtown NYC on a weekend. The drinks were a little pricy, but not crazy.

by deter03

For real. Probably the biggest bar ive ever been to in New York. It's also really fun. Cool, laid back crowd, cheap drinks, (actually the night I was there they were free for a long time for some reason. I think Bombay was sponsoring something there, which rules.) It did take a while to get a drink, but I think that had a lot to do with them being free, so beggars can't be choosers. Overall its a real cool place to hang out.

Hot Spot

by stiffwood

Since the first Saturday night we dropped in, we've been hooked. The crowd is diverse and easy going. It may take more than a minute to get a drink but they're not watered down and the bartenders are cool and, more importantly, hot! The DJ spins a good mix of tunes although you can't really dance when it gets packed despite the ton of space. The pool table and dart board are also helpful for the early night before the rush of late night party goers.

Pros: Space, Music, Pool table

M15 Has the ambiance of the inside of an airplance hanger. It's loud and spacious and overall uninteresting. The drinks are expensive and very difficult to obtain. Plan on waiting 15-20 minutes at the bar for each drink run. My bartender was the slowest human being I've ever seen.

I have been to M1-5 several times now and still can't believe how cavernous this place is. Drinks are at bargain prices for the area-they have my favorate-Leffe on tap for $4-5. Its a good place to head after work to shoot some pool or play darts and they have a kickass jukebox to boot. This one appears to be a keeper.

Pros: Huge space, Cheap Booze, Pool table

Identity crisis

by nuschler

It's Halloween, I'm Indiana Jones to a tee, and as a newcomer to the city, I'm fired up to bolster my bar resume. My determination is M1-5 is a decent spot, and definitely a place with potential. This night, ghosts and gypsies and go-go girls (wahoo!!) wedged their way in, and were treated to... an average night out. The mod design is easy on the eyes, and the bar surely spacious on any given weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of real estate available. Drinks were a touch pricey (NYC spin to it, I guess) and service was satisfactory at best. What irked me the most the place was that we're here to party, celebrate, smile, and there's no place to dance. Huh? Unless you're taking home an absolute knockout, today's M1-5 lacks the capacity to have "the best night of your life," and that's we're all looking for, right?

Pros: Space, Architecture, Stacked bar

Cons: Lack of zip, Drinks a touch pricey

I was there on Friday Night 17th Oct. This place is going to just take over the NYC downtown nitelife.
This is diffently the place to be seen at the moment, a few celebs, not to name a few where there.
The place started to happen around midnight. The space is huge, there must have been at least 250 people, and yet i still had enough space to move around
The pool table rocked, has it brings everyone together.
This was my first and diffently not my last visit to M1-5.

Pros: Pool Table, atmosphere, Music

Cons: None
