Eclectic with a tropical twist, Tommy Bahama's Tropical Cafe offers a relaxed, elegant island ambience along with truly inspired cuisine. In Short
With locations in Sarasota, Scottsdale, Palm Desert, Newport Beach and Wailea (Hawaii), the Woodlands seems a natural fit for the island-loving Tommy Bahama and his concept cafe. A combination restaurant and clothing store, this plantation-styled restaurant boasts a tropical menu with highlights including the Saba Steak Salad, Sanibel Chicken, coconut-crusted crab cakes and Tommy's Coconut Shrimp. Desserts are uniformly addictive (the pina colada cake is especially popular) and the full-service bar specializes in potent frozen concoctions.

Key Points

  • Island inspired cuisine
  • Live music every night
  • Famous rhum locker

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - Plan on an after-shopping cocktail or Caribbean-flavored dish at the cafe.
  2. Look Good - While you're there, don't forget to browse the Tommy Bahama shop for the signature tropical men's and women's sportswear and accessories plus home decor.
  3. Where to Sit - The huge outdoor patio is the ideal place to sit and watch folks enjoying Market Street. Umbrellas shield diners from the summer sun and heaters make the patio appealing during the winter months.

Tommy Bahama's is the place for terrific island food. They have lots of unique dishes with an island flair. Their shrimp BLT is delicious. They also have wonderful desserts. It is in the perfect location in Market Square. Don't miss this one.

Ratings_icons Great food, good dining experience

trichard1970

Me and a co-worker went last Friday and I tried this restaurant for the first time. I thought it was delicious! Even though it's expensive the dishes are wonderful and the chef gets big props! I thought the ambience of the restaurant and the decor DID feel like being in the Islands. The service was great and the food made me definetly want to go back again!
I recommend it!

Pros: Great service, excellent food, hot bread, ambience wonderful.

Cons: No cons for me.

Ratings_icons Fabulous Service

Haseldorf

We had lunch at TB's last week before heading to the airport. We were immediately seated in a wonderful booth overlooking the "very hot" outdoor patio - it was perfect! Rachel was our server and she is a fabulous server who knows her stuff, had a wonderful repoire with us and made a very memorable lunch. I love this restaurant and am disappointed in the other reviews I read. The food was wonderful - scallop sliders and the grouper sandwich! and desserts are to die for. Thanks for a super day and keep up the good work.

Pros: Rachel - the server, the food and atmosphere

Cons: none

Ratings_icons Stay away from this restaurant!

My wife and I visited Tommy Bahama's a couple of weeks ago, but didn't get to enjoy the food as another guess had arrived at our table just before we were seated. It was a nice big juicy insect (this review service will not let me spell out the word C O C K R O A C H for some reason). I quickly snapped a photo of it with my camera phone as It scurried across a picture frame above the table.
After I took the picture, we immediately got up to leave. I'm glad that other customers around us could see why we were leaving.
As we walked out the door, I showed the hostess the picture I had taken and told her why we were leaving. She just shrugged. We will never go back.

Pros: NONE

Cons: R O A C H E S

Ratings_icons Slow service, Overpriced food

midtownjd

This is a very expensive restaurant, but in this case, you don't get what you pay for. I visited this restaurant for lunch yesterday around 2:30, and even though the place was more than half empty, it still took the server over 45 minutes to deliver a sandwich and two salads. My salad was decent, but certainly wasn't worth it based on the price and the slow service. Do your self a favor, if your in The Woodlands, go to a different restaurant.

Pros: It's the chain's only Texas restaurant

Cons: slow service, overpriced food

Ratings_icons Bad Service Experience

jellybeanbeauty

I took some friends out to celebrate their gradutions. One of them had dated one of the waiters and she did not want to see him for fear it would be akward. When we asked the hostess & host who our server would be they wouldn't tell us. They wanted to know why we wanted to know and when we explained it they insisted on knowing who it was. I reluctantly gave them the name and then asked them not to say anything. Our meal was okay, except for them delivering a chicken quesadilla to our vegetarian. When it came time for our dessert to be brought out the server we were trying to avoid delivered it to us. He then proceeded to sit down and ask us why we didn't want to see him. I was floored at the immaturity of the host staff and their desparted need to gossip. I won't return.

Pros: Great Patio

Cons: Childish and Uncaring Staff

Ratings_icons The Woodlands location - Boring Menu and Insanely Over Priced!

The Woodlands location - Boring Menu and Insanely Over Priced!

$28.00+ for 4 undercooked scallops and 3 tiny shrimp over a cup of rice?? We had to ask for bread, and were presented with a 4" square "loaf" of bread for 4 adults. Crab bisque was best thing on menu, but at $6.50 a cup?? $30.00 pork tenderloin was dry and chewy - 4 tiny stalks of aspargus??.

Place is always busy, so guess they just don't have to worry about quality or variety any longer. So, if you go there, for one drink, one cup of soup and one entre', expect to easily be presented with at least a $50 per person bill.

They have seen us for the last time, and we live here.

Pros: It's in The Woodlands

Cons: Insanely over priced, noisy, and no parking

Ratings_icons Great Woodlands Addition

My wife and I love to go here. I don't mind the shopping either... who minds a hawaiian shirt every now and then? Anyway, the food is great, the location is great, and on Thursdays, they have live music in the outside area. This is the only Tommy Bahama store and restaurant NOT on the beach....

Pros: Cool atmosphere, great food, nice clothes

Cons: Parking, occasionally...

Ratings_icons Key Lime...

The key lime martini with graham cracker on the rim was a treat (should have saved for dessert). With a reservation, we were seated promptly.

After eating here a few times we went one Saturday night with some friends and after waiting over an hour for a table we finally got seated and then our food took a while to get to us and then... it was all tepid! My quesadillas actually had cold cheese in them.

Ratings_icons Sign of the Times

Very disappointing, the service I received was not a bit appealing, we felt like we were being rushed out of the restaurant by the two bartenders, I guess they are qualified to set their standards there I was asked if I needed another drink when I had not even began drinking what I had on hand, and my tab was closed out right after that, with out being asked if I wanted anything from the menu sitting next to me. And not to mention the television show I was so focused in watching was turn off, it was early in the day so I new the restaurant was not closing. With this type of upscale treatment you can count on me enjoying the simple things in life.

Pros: Restaurant Ambience

Cons: Treat others how you want to be treated.

Were there last evening. Great atmosphere, beautiful inisde dining area, great patio dining, great bar, great drinks - but the food needs to be better and they need to have more entree selections vs. sandwichs in the evening.

Pros: Atmosphere

Cons: Food

Ratings_icons So-So food, Way Overpriced

Nice atmosphere, waiter didn't seem to be in the best of moods, presentation of the food was beautiful, too bad the taste wasn't as good. Way overpriced!

Pros: Atmosphere was nice

Cons: Service and food left a lot to be desired

Did not get waited on till 15 minutes. Manager came out and apologized and offered an appetizer. He still charged us for the appetizer- we don't mind paying for the appetizer but it was the principal that the manager offered it and still charged us. Also, it's a very pricey place for such a casual atmosphere.

Even though the restaurant/patio is a great idea, it is extremely pricey for the low quality of food. Service is good - the food is not up to par.
