I found Brooklyn Eyeworks about a year ago, right here on Citysearch. (I already had a prescription from my eye doctor and I already had frames that were only about one year old, so I just needed to have new lenses made). Dan was a *super-nice* guy; incredibly pleasant.

Dan gave me a full refund and apologized the subpar experience I had at Brooklyn Eye Works. I really respect the ownership he took of the situation and the quickness of his action in resolving it once it had been brought to his attention. He truly feels that everyone that comes into his shop matters. Unlike a lot of places, you?re not just another number. He realizes that you could have gone anywhere but is very warm to all the customers that choose his shop. I really appreciate his taking the time make every customer count. He definitely goes above and beyond.

I walked in and had my eyes checked in January 2009. I thought to myself, Latinos going for the American dream! I am Latina and was so impressed and proud to see a beautiful layout ie, the chosen color paint , cool mirrors, nice music, well cared for plants (were so green and shinny I thought they were fake) I even saw feug shui with running water fall. I had problems going back to pick up my frames, Dan took care of everything. I had my glasses sooner then later. Thank you Dan on helping me get what I needed. Wish you lots of success!!

I have been going to Brooklyn Eyeworks for about 2 years. The service is great and Danny & Jessica are always a delight. A few days ago I decided to go to another Optometrist only because they took my VSP insurance. WHAT A BIG FAT MISTAKE! Where was the service? Where was the common curtesey? Alot of these places think that just because they accept your insurance, that they are doing you a favor! The service was so subpar. The attitude of the staff was as if I were disturbing them. Regardless of my insurance coverage, I'm a paying customer... treat me with some kindness. Now I know that Brooklyn Eyeworks IS a cut above the rest. I'll totally be back to Brooklyn Eyeworks. My advise to everyone is this: Even though a place takes your insurance, check them out first. They should earn your business especailly in today's economic climate. By nilly-willy going to an in-network provider for your eyecare, you're just throwing a dart in the wind and whatever you get then so be it. There are few businesses that go out of their way to help people. This is one of them. I realized a few days before I moved from Brooklyn to Boulder that my glasses were nowhere to be found. I showed up and asked if there was anything they could do for me on such short notice. It also happened to be the weekend and they were closed on Sunday. Not only did Danny manage to get a new pair made before I left, he was able to get them to me on Sunday evening while they did construction on the store, the night before I moved. Had I not been able to get these glasses, the 3 day drive across the country would have been a disaster and my head would have exploded. Oh yes, and they were running a special on free frames, so I saved money as well. Thank you for your understanding, help, and service! Maybe you could consider opening a store in Colorado!

I first met Danny many years ago and he has done my glasses since before he had his own store. I knew that he believed in great customer service and so when I learned through a mutual friend that he was opening a store, I said I gotta check it out. I was floored by the superb service and the excellent choices of frames. I have recommended his services to coworkers and friends alike. I would not hesitate a nano second to recommend Danny's services to anyone who is tired of having salesmen barraging them. Or anyone who likes great service and customer care. And further more I am not a gambling guy but I would bet that there is less than 10 store owners that compare to him in warmth and true caring for his customers.

Sometimes too good can be a problem. I've been wearing the same pair of glasses for about 8 years. Every 2 years I get my prescription updated and new lenses go into my old frames. Well this time I visited Brooklyn Eyeworks based off of a referral from a friend. The exam was good and there was not "salesman" pressure to buy (which was very welcoming). I gave them my old glasses to have the new rx put in. I know that if anything were to happen to my frames I would be responsable. As luck would have it BAM! my frames broke. Dan was so gracious that he replaced my frames at no charge. WOW! The reason he did this was that he didn't notify me of the risk of using an old frame. Like I stated, I knew my frames were shot. I also knew that every place that I took these frames, no other optical shop would touch them. Dan took a shot and it back-fired. He made good on the attempt. My question is this... What other shop would do this?
I know he lost major money on this transaction but he has gained a customer for life. I will definitely recommend my fellow teachers to this place. Please keep up the good work.

I was a patient at Brooklyn Eyeworks for about 2 yrs. after reading some rave reviews. Initially, I too was impressed by the friendly service, and felt the doctor was attentive and thorough. I also recommended them to friends, and remained loyal even though they didn't take my insurance. However, the lack of care I have had there over the last 6 months has been more than disappointing. Mostly, the recent doctor care I?ve had is awful. I believe the name of doctor I?d seen was Justin, and during my regular eye exam this year, he changed the brand of contacts I?d worn with no issues for 10+ yrs. This new brand immediately turned my eyes red, but he insisted they were the best contacts I could get, prescribed some drops, and refused to have me try some other brands. Because I had been happy with my care there at that point, I trusted him. But, the problems in my eyes grew worse?and twice he was not in during regular doctor hours for me to see when things began to get more urgent. These contacts eventually caused a bacterial eye infection. Luckily I was able to seek better professional care with a doctor who treated my infection before it got too serious, as well as helped me find the contacts that are right for me.
At that point, I still felt that the owner remained friendly and provided great customer service. However, after explaining to him Justin?s insistence upon me wearing problematic contacts, I reasonably requested a refund for unused pairs that I had just purchased-afterall, they have this "money back guarantee" advertised. He promised me he?d ?see what he can do? and has left about 4 of my follow-up messages over the last 2 weeks unanswered.
So, my opinion of Brooklyn Eyeworks has done a 360. I feel that the doctor doesn?t actually care about personal eye health, and that the owner is only good at keeping happy people happy-they aren?t so great at true customer service or care.

I was skeptical like everyone else. But I trusted enough to travel a few miles to the highest rated optical store in Brooklyn. I am amazed!!! - I was told my eyes could not be corrected to 20/20. And I've accepted it for at least a decade. Well - it takes my breath away. I can see! The improvement was subtle outdoors. But this evening I turned on my TV to TCM to watch a movie. And for the very first time I can read the description and credits from across the room. - This is such a lovely thing. I am so grateful.
And as the optometrist promised (whose name I did not write down unfortunately - but I bless her) it is also much easier for me to read books. - That has always been my joy - but lately I've had to take off my glasses to read (I'm very nearsighted). She said improving the distance vision would also mysteriously improve near vision. And she seems to be right.

My annual eye checkup yielded a few firsts this year, i.e., first time needing "progressive" lenses (what a lovely euphemism for bifocals!), as well as the first time that using the UFT vision plan seemed worthwhile. After far too much internet review browsing (let's not call it something as organized as "research"), I decided I was too nervous and suspicious to try a Cohen's Fashion Optical, and that Brooklyn Eyeworks looked like it definitely deserved a visit.

All the good things in other reviews (other than about eye exams, as I didn't have mine here) is absolutely true. I had an utterly delightful time choosing frames (who knew there were so many stylin' green frames on the market?); indeed, I had to agree with Dan's comment, "Isn't this the most fun you've ever had picking out glasses"!

Perhaps the best part of all was working with a participating provider that actually understood how the UFT vision plan works. (I shudder to think how difficult it might have been to get a large chain franchise to understand and assent to the price limits on "extras.") Dan was clearly far more of an expert on it than I. He was also incredibly patient, not only about my trying on frames, but also with respect to my dithering about the "bottom line" (which forced him to recalculate the sale waaay too many times).

Brooklyn Eyeworks proudly proclaims, on both its door and its website, that it accepts the UFT vision plan -- teachers, go there!!!!

Actually, everyone else should go there, too.

Fabulous place. I broke my glasses while traveling - a total bummer since I had bought them in Italy in 2000 for a total of $150. (The dollar used to be worth something and Italy still had Lira ) Anyway, I read the reviews here and on a couple of other sites, and since I live in the neighborhood, headed over. Basically, everything people said in the numerous great reviews was true with my experience. Great selection, really nice, friendly folks. The glasses were perfectly done and exactly on schedule. I felt no pressure to get the highest priced frames - they genuinely tried to figure out what looked best. Definitely a great find...

That's the only word I can use to describe this quaint little gem. Not only will you find frames that really are unique and different, the service is unlike anything I experienced in a retail setting let alone an eyeglass shop.
Whatever you do DO NOT take my word for it. You need to experience this firsthand. I'm writing this review just to let you know that I don't like to give reviews but this place really deserves a write up. I came in a few days ago ready to purchase a new set of rimless kawasaki frames ($795) because my original kawasaki frames were in such bad shape (so I thought). Dan just looked at the frame and told me "save your money I'll just bring these puppies back to life". I paid for new lenses ($195) and he took care of the rest. I just got my glasses back and MAN OH MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know what he did but my old rimless glasses look brand spanking new! My total investment was $195 and saved $600 bucks!!! Do you know what a $600 dollar savings is? ( a few tank full of gas!). Dan totally has the right touch! What I like about this guy is that he has your best interest at heart, which is very rare today. Comes highly recommended!

I came into Broklyn Eyeworks based on a recommendation from my co worker. The place is like any other optical. So what's the big deal and why the many reviews? Why am I taking the time to give this place a review? All I can say is WOW! I really don't care if you believe any of these reviews (I didn't) until you get into it with Jessie, Dr. Bazan and Danny. I can honestly say that this tight and sync crew were put together by Divine Intervention. (Either that or they play it off very very well). First off the exam: Dr. Bazan introduces himself and escorts me into his exam room; he then begins to explain every part of the exam process (who does this). I'm so used to the eye doctor just saying "better 1 or better 2" and that's it! NOT HERE! After the exam I'm given my Rx and given the option of either ordering my contacts "on-line" or from them. (huh?) (Are they for real?). I needed some glasses and Danny and Jessie pulled out about 20 to 30 pair of specs for me to try on. It was sooooo cool. No pressure to make a rush decision. Dan even took several pictures and emailed them to me. I don't live in the area so picking up my new glasses was a bit of a problem for me (so I thought). This crazy optician made the trip to Williamsburg and personally delivered my glasses to my house! I am a fan. When I did get my funky Cynthia Rawley frames I couldn't stop yapping about the phenominal service in this place! Like I said before... The man who helped me, Dan, was charming and nice. He was not strong-handed and considered my preferences when bringing me different pairs of (cool and stylish) glasses to try on. He understood what I liked and was not impatient nor did he get annoyed when I was picky. I found a pair that I loved and he made it very easy for me to order them--next day service and I didn't even have to go out to Brooklyn to get them. He made my trip out there worth it. I would recommend this store to any of my friends.

Brooklyn Eyeworks is every bit as wonderful as their five-star rating suggests. I bought new glasses lenses just before an extended trip abroad. First, the cost of my lenses was less than half the quoted price of my (supposedly) discounted college optician, and the lenses were of higher quality in terms of material and coatings. Two weeks into my trip, my glasses frames broke. Brooklyn Eyeworks corresponded with me and my boyfriend via phone and email in order to replace my lenses, answering each and every question. They even replaced my lenses for FREE, even though I bought my frames elsewhere, and got it all back to me within a week. They were extremely kind and patient throughout the entire process. I never write reviews, but I highly recommend this store.

Within no time, I was able to find very cool, trendy glasses that looked great on me. I love them. But best of all, was the contact lens service I received, as I still wear lenses as well. In two days, I was to fly to Europe for two weeks and realized I had only one pair a new lenses. I rang Danny to order more to be ready for my return. He insisted that I couldn't go away with only only pair. He went to great lengths to get me two boxes of lenses and he personally delivered them to my apartment the day before I flew out. Now THAT is service!

One must consider, carefully, hyperbole when attempting to spread the word about a recently discovered gem of a business as to not overdo it. You wanna shout it from the rooftops, sure, but you risk the skepticism of the reader. Well, the heck with that - I can?t help my joy and delight in announcing to the world a magnificent discovery here in Brooklyn ? and I must concur with the rave reviews for this quaint and charming Park Slope shop.

Now, don?t let the terms "quaint" and "charming" scare you off. These are monikers that are slowly disappearing in the corporate world we live in. Not here. They easily juxtapose absolute professionalism, almost dreamlike customer care and attention with an ACTUAL passion for their craft, all the while offering the most prodigious array of differing styles and name-brands I think I?ve ever seen, while never pressuring you in one way or the other. For example, they will steer you away from a more expensive frame for a lesser-priced set if they didn?t think that the higher priced frames were right for you. I dare you to find that in a Pearl Vision or a Lens Crafters.

Great location, convenient hours, very cool collection (especially the new Swedish frames). Very friendly and patient staff who worked with me to get the fit of my glasses just right. There was a discount on my eye exam with an optometrist on site. Whether you're just thinking about new glasses or already have your prescription, I highly recommend stopping by!

I've been wearing glasses since the tender age of 4 years old and I'm 25 now and never before have I been treated with such genuine customer appreciation. Since the moment I called to get more information on insurance coverage and subway directions, Dan treated me with patience and attentiveness to my needs. His consideration towards me as a student looking for a good optical shone right through when he gave me discounts so I can see an eye doctor and purchase glasses at an affordable price. He has an honest dedication to his job and his customers that makes the place feel like home. He will, without a doubt help you find glasses/contact within your price range and that will look good on you (which is the most important thing). Dan is the Man!
Dr. Bazan definitely knows what he's doing and is not afraid to show it by explaining every procedure he was going to do on my eyes and explaining the level of my chronic eye condition, which other eye doctors had failed to acknowledge or even care. He was able to establish a comfortable patient-doctor relationship that expressed his concern for my well-being. Talking to him was as if I was talking to a really smart best friend.
These guys help in a truly bona fide manner; no shady business!

I've never gotten such great care and attention. All I wanted was a routine exam. Nothing routine about Dr. Bazan's exams. He makes you feel so relaxed and well taken care of. I've never gotten that from past doctors especially if I tell them I'm ordering contacts online. That's why this place is so different. The focus is on the health of your eyes. After the exam Dr. Bazan gave me a few sample lenses: rescheduled a follow up to evaluate the fit of the contact lenses and upon his approval I got my prescription to order my supply online. The guy even emailed me some information on dry eyes (because I was having some issues). No one is doing this! Keep up the great work Dr. B! The staff also go out of their way to please. Great work guys.

I was lucky to meet Danny several years ago, when he worked on the Upper East Side in Mahattan, and I've been following him ever since. I (and my family) now happily make the trip from Manhattan to Park Slope, because he is simply the best! I've been wearing glasses forever, and have dealt with many opticians. None can match Danny and his commitment to superior quality and customer satisfaction. Run, don't walk, to Brooklyn Eyeworks!

I know there?s a strong tendency to question the validity of the many positive reviews for Brooklyn Eyeworks on this website. I had serious reservations myself, but I was desperate.

I spent over six months working with a Cohen Fashion Optical store in Manhattan trying to replace my cracked eyeglasses. It seems the brand of progressive lenses in my broken glasses were no longer made by the original manufacturer and the brand was sold to another company. I couldn?t see properly out of any of the three pair of glasses that Cohen ended up making for me over six months.

In my desperation I googled something like ?best Optician in NYC? and came across Brooklyn Eyeworks at CitySearch. I was impressed by the extraordinary number of very positive reviews, but given my recent experience I found it difficult to be optimistic.

I called the store and Dan Maldonado cheerfully scheduled me for an Optometrist appointment the same day. Dan was familiar with the brand of lenses in my broken glasses and said he didn?t think the new manufacturer?s lenses were of the same quality as the original manufacturer. He spent a lot of time with me on a busy Saturday afternoon and suggested I try a Hoya progressive lens with similar properties as my broken glasses.

I was so impressed with Dan that I ordered the relatively expensive lenses even though my vision insurance wasn?t one of the hundreds of plans Dan?s store accepts. After what I had been through for six months, I was willing to pay full price for my glasses at Brooklyn Eyeworks rather than take a chance on repeating my previous experience at another Optician just because they accept my insurance.

When I couldn?t see as well with the new glasses as I could with my broken glasses, Dan was undaunted. He found a lab out in California that still had an inventory of my lenses made by the original manufacturer. At last I can now see as well as I did with my broken glasses. Thank God for Dan Maldonado and Brooklyn Eyeworks.

Since I was a teenager I was granted the "pleasure" of having poor eye site. When I came across Brooklyn eyeworks I realized that this was the place for me. I have never been treated so well when it came to eyecare. I used to be a client of Cohens optic, but now it's this little store on 5th ave for me. The atmosphere as well as the service is spectacular and inviting. No where in the service do you as a customer feel unwelcome or as a burdon. Danny as well as his staff will let you try on as many glasses as possible until you find the right match. If you're looking for great service for your eyecare look no further because this little store on 5th ave is the place to go.

To me glasses are glasses. Don't say this to Danny and Jessie! First off let me say that Dan gets into talking about lenses and lens design. I think it has to do with the fact that he's soooo nearsighted. (And I thought I was bad). Here's a tip.... the next time you go to an eyeglass shop make sure the owner or manager has really bad eyes: only because they'll be so fanatical about how your glasses will and should look! I've never gotten such high spirited attention and care! Thank you ,thank you thank you. And then there's Jess; miss fashionista. Absolutely adorable, spunky, and cute. She'll tell you right off the bat if she's felling the frames you're trying on regardless of designer. If a Versace looks bad on you, then so be it. Lovely, honest and true. I walked in with a prada model number and left with a Dior instead. Thanks Jess (good look'in out).

This place is everything an optometric office isn't... stuffy and clinical. I absolutely love the calming energy this place has. I came in to get my eyes checked for my annual contact lens purchase online. And true to what my buds said about the people in this eyeglass shop, I left with my Rx without any hassles. Will totally refer people your way.

I have known Dan for about 9 years and been following him from Soho to the Upper East Side and now to Park Slope. Being a fellow resident I'm glad he's here. Unfortunately the eye doctor that he had working for him that day was young, arrogant and obviously lacked experience in a busy setting. I waited about 2 hours for an exam (ON A STURDAY) finally I left (without being examined). I did pick out some really hip Kio Yamoto specs while I was waiting. Dan, what's going on? The wonderful thing about this place is that Dan knows customer service and did call the next day to apologize for the delay. He even suggested a couple of other optical boutiques in the city, to get my eye checked, and he was willing to pay for the exam. How great is that. I faxed over my prescription on Monday and my glasses were ready that evening.
Let's face it everyone's allowed to mess up. Don't worry I'll always be a loyal client and will continue to refer.

I was going home for the Thanksgiving weekend and my ONLY pair of glasses broke and I hadn't bothered to renew my contacts prescription! (What a SPAZ!) It was Wednesday about 2:30pm and every place that I called were eiher closed or closing early. In desparation I called this place (so totally out of my way). The guy who answered the phone was so nice that I just knew: JACKPOT! I told the guy that I'll be there before 5pm. He said O.K. I got there at about 4:30pm. I felt so bad because he had signs up that read "The office will close today at 3pm." (Why didn't he tell me this over the phone?) Anyway I get their and he calls my eye doctor in L.A. for my contacts precscription. Dan gives me a couple of sample lenses to hold me over and repaired my glasses. All that AT NO CHARGE!!! IS HE INSANE!!!!
I told him please charge me anything. He told me that it wasn't necessary: that it was a simple repair and that he had samples of my contact lenses; so what's the big deal; just get home safe. (Pause)
What more can I say......

I came into this tiny shop based off of a stellar recommendation from my co-worker. True to the buzz, this is a tiny spot with a big fat heart! I wasn't rushed, pushed,or pressured to purchase a thing. Jessica was extremely helpful. I genuinely felt as if she had MY best interest at heart. What a refreshing feeling. After trying on about 9 frames I got me a pair of slammin' Pradas. Thanks Jess!

My name is Renea and I came to purchase my glasses in July. I was doing some research and I happened to stumble upon Brooklyn Eyeworks website. I called the store and spoke to Dan over the phone for about an hour. I told him that I was looking for something unique and he told me about all the funky and cool frames that his store carries and to come in and take a look at his designs. I was so glad that I did. I was running a little late on Saturday and when I called Dan to tell him, he said "don't worry, I will wait for you." Once I arrived, Dan and Jessica showed me a bunch of nice frames. They even pulled out some frames that were not out on display at the moment. Dan and Jessica took me outside the store and asked several pedestrians that were walking by to give an opinion on the frames that were chosen. Of course it was so hard to decide because all the frames they showed me were nice. It was a pair of O&X frames that really stood out and everyone that walked by said "you really look nice in those." I finally decided on the O&X frames and I am happy with my decision because they are smokin hot! I can't begin to tell you how many compliments I get when I am wearing my glasses. I would like to give Dan and Jessica a big shout out. If you are looking for quality service and quality frames, you must visit this store.

Let's face it. You go to an eyeglass shop for? You guessed it, eyeglasses! Bing bing bing bing bing! You've just won a dinner for 2 at the diner down the street. What you USUALLLY don't find in most optical retails settings are truly passionate individuals and such pride in their chosen field. How can this be? Does it really cost alot to be just a litle bit kinder or just plain nice? Well readers I have been to many optical stores in my day from big box stores to small mom and pop boutiquey stores and this place takes the cake hands down.
I came all the way from Red Hook because my co-worker couldn't rave enough about this qqwerky little store with an inviting/energetic decor and great service. She was right. I was looking for a very specific frame: a swiss flex rimless which I can customized. The places that are authorized dealers were not nice at all. My co-worker told me about brooklyn eyeworks and she was 100% on the money. Even though I did have to wait about 3 days after the date promised, it was well worth the wait. Dan personally inspects EVERY pair of eyeglasses that leaves his shop and If he decides that they don't pass his final inspection, then he will redo the glasses. I like what he says about glasses being like jewelry. I cannot refer this place enough. As for my co-worker, I really hate when she's right. :)

I came in a few days ago based on the citysearch reviews. And true to the reviews I was well received and taken care of quite well. I came in on a Saturday and they were a little short handed but dispite the deficiency the hospitality and care was good. The next day I picked up my glasses and I have to say "what a difference a day makes". I really didn't care for my new specs. Dispite my poor choice I did try to live with my new purchase but I couldn't. So I returned my glasses for a refund. Prepared for a fight, I visualized the scene in my head but it never came to fruition. The manager just said to me "would you like to start over from scratch? (There was a family member in the optical business in L.A. and he told me that I could get my glasses at cost.) To make a long story short Danny not only refunded my money without any hassles he even gave me a copy of my Rx. Dear reader; be very careful about those "family members in the business". I ordered my glasses from my cousin in L.A. and they were awful! What turned out to be a savings, ended up costing me more aggravation and headaches than anything else. I feel like an idiot going back to brooklyn eyeworks. This guy really cared and I just blew him off. I will totally refer people to this place only because they really do go out of their way to make a difference.

First off...let's begin with why I gave this place three stars (average) instead of a highly recommended. I came in here becasue of the great reviews from citysearch and their phone ettique was stellar. Now...I was a bit skeptical of such reviews but true to others experiences these people really do go out of their way to really create an experience instead of a transaction. Do you believe that Dan ordered 9 frames for me to preview!
I wasn't obligated to purchase any of them. His philosophy is that eyewear is jewelry and that decisions shouldn't be done on a rush. I like the fact that he's training is daughter Jessica in the same philosophy. If you don't work for your client, customer, patient etc, you're not doing your job. Attention to detail, passion and dedication are the things that these guys are all about. Now: why the three stars? I don't want people to be as cynical and skeptical of this review. In short... if you really value your time and money, then you need to be here.

I'll make this quick and to the point. You can feel the passion and energy when you visit Jessica at brooklyn eyeworks. She's upbeat, energetic and has a great sense of style! I love love love my O&X glasses. I've never gotten so many compliments. To tell you the truth I'm almost tempted NOT to tell people where I got them because I want to be the only one with this great look'in frame. Jess knows what I'm talking about. Anyway.... my plain is about to board. Will totally recommend this place.

"If the frames break we don't repair, we replace it at no charge." That's what Dan the manager told me when I picked up my glasses a few days ago. According to Danny once a frame has been broken it'll never be the same agian. I personally agree with him and I'm glad that he's intouch with the fact that these things aren't cheap; especially if your prescription is super high. He gets it! Finally someone with the common sense and the bals to put his reputation on the line to make his clients feel that their purchases are substantial enough to warrant such a personally guarantee! I know this may sound cooky but everyone that comes to this place will return just because. I'm not talking about repeat business; I'm talking, return'in just to hello or just to have a cup of coffee with these guys. By the way, his apprentice may only be 19 but she's the most mature 19 year old I've met in a long time. I know that I've rambled on and I may not be grammatically correct ( I do apologize) but if you're looking for great care and service along with a warm and fuzzy feeling than this place is it. P.S. That stuff about them delivering your glasses personally........TRUE! How crazy.

Why do they do the things they do? What's the catch... the angle? I realy didn't get it until you realize that good home-grown, down to earth service still exisist in NYC. Jessica was the best! She showed me a bunch of seriously style'n frames from the "secret-stash" (as they like to call it). No pressures, no worries, just plain nice with no blah, no crazy "bait-n-switch" nothin! What you see IS what you get, which by the way is very very refreshing. How's this for crazy. When I couldn't pick up my glasses Dan and Jess personally delivered them to my home. UNHEARED OF!!!!!!!!! Keep up the good work.

This is an instance where the reviews aren't complete fabrications. Are you tired of the BS, getting the runaround, being lied to, the snide attitudes? Who isn't, right? I read the reviews for this shop after going to several, tiresome others. I live nowhere near the shop but decided to come by. I can't stress enough how forthcoming Danny was with me. At the risk of losing a potential customer in dire need of new glasses, he told me not to get a pair of rimless glasses I very much wanted b/c they would look damn right ugly with my prescription, an $800 purchase, and I was dead set on them. I was pretty crestfallen at the news, but he told me there were some new lenses coming out in about a month, perhaps I could try then. I left, probably leaving Danny to believe I'd never come back. But you don't see this level of commitment, candor & charm rolled into one very often. I could have gone to another store and gotten it there, but I highly doubt they would have had my best interests at heart. I came back after a hard, long month, got the rundown on the new lenses, ordered a pair of rimless Kazuo Kawasaki's, received them a week and change later, and was set to go. I love them, my gilrfriend loves them, and I would love to recommend this shop to anyone breathing. This store deserves your service, because people like Danny are hard to come by, who actually gives a damn, who like me won't settle for less, and won't take your money just to make a sale. Danny, thanks for being one of a kind.

It was at time again... looking for glasses. Understanding that eye glass frames have come along way from the time I was forced to wear "birth-control" glasses (the ones that are issued by the military because they know that if you wear these things "you ain't get'n any".) I really don't like going to these places becasue half the time these people do not take the time. Well, I came into brooklyn eyeworks with my girlfriend a couple of weeks ago and i was pleasantly pleased and surprised. I was getting ready for all the "salemanish" banter but there wasn't any. As a matter of fact the guy behind the counter was so easy that we were just chill'n for a good 45 minutes after we got there. I forgot why we came in. The place looks more like an upscale SoHo jazz club than a drabby eye doctor office. The selection of frames were great! No more birth-contraol glasses for me! I know that I went a little over-board with my purchases but I have never been so freaking pleased wearing glasses until I came into this place. Jessica the apprentice optician took the time (Very Very Important!)....anyway, she took the time to make sure these frames were the it frames. It's pleasing to see that Dan and Jessie have this great chemistry! The reason why I mention this is that as we were trying on frames (about 30 or 40, no joke) they would have such polar differences of opinion that I knew that they both had my best interest at heart. 2 hours later I picked my choices and I've been loving it. P.S. I think my girlfriend is getting a little jealous with the attention I've been getting. (Honey, u r the 1.)

I came in a few weeks ago and I needed an adjustment on my glasses. The place that I had purchased them originally refused to adjust the glasses because I got them a year and a half ago. Their concern was that if It breaks they would not be responsable. That's such BS! They can take my money but no customer care? I went down the street and Jessica that apprentice optician took care of the problem AT NO CHARGE. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I came in off the street needing to update my contact lenses prescription; saw the doctor; exam was good; asked for my Rx so that I can order my contacts online. Got my prescription and was givien some samples to hold me over until my order arrivies in a couple of days. Extremely smooth. No bumps in the road with these guys.
P.S. Most optical shops and eye doctors I've gone to ALWAYS give me some level of resistance whenever I've asked for my prescription. I appreciate the fact that these guys don't do that.

A few days ago I stepped into this place wanting a rimless pair of glasses. The optician recommended that I reconsider my choice only because my eyeglass medicine is too high (-8.00) on both eyes. He told me that even with the thinnest of lenses, it would look really bad. He suggested either a fully rimmed frame or even a small metal frame. He didn't push or direct me in an another direction; just gave me the options and asked me to think about it for a day or 2. Being that this was going to be a major investment he didn't want me to be too hasty with my decision. I was a little bummed so I went to another optical store. The guy assured me that I can go with a rimless frame "no problem". When I got my glasses back ( a week later) I wanted to cry. I was so upset. This high end optical boutique in SoHo should have agreed with Dan at Brooklyn eyeworks but instead the sales girl just stared at me and said "what did you expect, you know your prescription is bad. That's as thin as we can make it." $725 out the window! I know that it's my fault but these so called boutique she-she places really should have a sense of responsability and decency when doing business with the public. I went back to Brooklyn eyeworks and Dan worked his magic on my glasses: by inserting my rimless lenses into a cute Lafont frame my once ugly looking thick lenses are absolutely gorgeous. I guess sometimes you really have to learn things the hard way. I'd like to thank Dan and his crew at brooklyn eyeworks for making a this gal very very happy. meow.

I had a contact lens emergency. I lost a contact lens & had to go to work that morning. Well, I could hardly see, so first I called a 'big name-brand optical store' that could not (or did not want to) help me (it's in Bklyn Heights by the way).

Since, I was pressed for time, I searched for an optician in Bklyn through Citysearch. Long story short, he helped me out with a disposable contact lens that fit wonderfully for a low-low price (considering the alternative). That same day I had the new lens that the 'other guys' could/would not fill because it was a "specialty" lens.

I have a thing for glasses. It doesn't have to be designer glasses just funky fun and different. I mean really, how many shoes do I have? The problem is that glasses aren't cheap! For the kind of glasses that I like, costs range in price from $700 to $900 alway without fail. Well my boyfriend recommend this place and I was a little hesitant only because I live in the upper west side: the hassle and travel time, only to save maybe $25 bucks? My boyfriend raved about the service and great selection. To shut him up I called first and ask a bunch of questions. Without missing a beat Dan was not only friendly he was genuine. He gave all the pricing over the phone so that I can compare it to any optical shop in town. HOLY #%#@# What a major price difference! I was looking at a pair of rimless 2.5 frames. For what I wanted on my glasses Dan's quote was about $235 cheaper than the lowest quote I got here in the city! When my glasses were ready, Dan personaly delivered them to my job! Very impressive and definitely well worth the trip. Service is back and I'm loving it. (Kelly nyc)

This review will be quik. I ordered my glasses on Friday July 6 at about 6:30 pm. I was going out of town for a job interview and my current glasses looked awefull! Why did I wait 'till the last minute? I called around to 4 or 5 optical shops through out brooklyn and manhattan and I could honestly tell you that most where very nice but very apologetic. I knew deep down that I was not going to get glasses anytime soon. My plane was leaving at 12 noon Saturday. HELP! Brooklyn Eyeworks not only said they could do it, they personally delivered my spanking new glasses to my home so that I could continue packing. How's that for service!

I can't believe the prices of glasses. Do they fluctuate with the price of gas? I've been needing a new pair of glasses for about 9 months but every place I go to the starting price is about $350.00 without the lenses. OUCH. I don't mind paying major bucks but sometimes I get the feeling that just because I live in manhatten I'm required to pay BIG for the "prestige" of living here. Well thank goodness for the internet. I took a train ride to Brooklyn to check this place out. I saw the same pair of Prada frames for about $80 dollars less. I didn't have my rx so I took advantage of their free exam deal. ( A $75 dollar savings). Now this is where it gets really good; I've gotten prices for my lenses from $210 and UP. This place priced my lenses at $145.00 (Another $65bucks saved.) So at the end of the day a $4 dollar trian ride saved me $220.00 BUCKS! O.K. what's the catch right? The manager told me " I'd rather have more people coming in to spread the word about us instead of banging 2 or 3 people to the max. Well mister, I'm telling everyone! Melvin Lopez Esq.

This is my 1st citysearch review. What I witnessed at this optical store cannot go unsung. I came in last Saturday to buy a 3 month supply of contacts. Knowing that I CAN go online to purchase them for cheaper I do appreciate great care and service and this place has it. Anyway, as I was waiting to be serviced I couldn't help over-hearing the optician speaking to this guy at the counter. Apparantly this customer bought a pair of Oliver Peoples frames at another eyeglass shop, but wasn't happy about his purchase. Dan had asked him to go back and try to get them to exchange the frame for a better looking pair. According to the customer he DID try to exchange the glasses but this Manhatten store told him that he had to pay for a new set of lenses.(Very expensive lenses). Now check this out>>>> Dan called the Manhatten shop and got them to redo the lenses at no charge! My question is this? Why? Why go out of your way to technically "lose a sale" ? "Because you have do what is correct for your customers and clients, even if it means not making a sale." That was Dan's answer to my question. WOW! What integrity!

This was my first eyeglasses buying experience ( dam Blackberry!) I must have gone to about 3 or 5 eyeglass shops. All were O.K I guess but WOW! Are all glasses so pricey? How can these shops justify $900 for a pair of reading glasses. All I really needed was a pair of glasses for my mac and emails as well as the movies. NO BIG DEAL. I go to these shops and everyone is trying to sell me stuff that I don't need. Well my colleque referred me to brooklyn eyeworks and these guys are the complete opposite. I must have sampled about 20 frames before I settled on a pair of funky retro modo frames. $225 total: out the door! How cool is that? Thanks guys!
