Diasppointed to see that many (all? - we had their chocolate and triple espresso) of their ice creams now use

- Guar Gum

- Locust Bean Gum

- Carrageenan

all at the same time. Yikes! We loved the ice cram they make, but now won't

I'm not much of a review writer but this place really deserves a nod. We have eaten here about twice a month over the last year or so. I like thin crust pizza and there's nobody in the city that I know of that does it better than these guys. My favourite is the Fungi Misti, a white pizza with mushrooms and truffle oil. We have found the specials to be a great choice every time we eat here as well. If you can't decide, just go with the special ! The espresso could use some more crema, but the gelato makes up for that. A little surprised they're not on the "best of" list this year, a tragic oversight ?!

Pros: fresh ingridients, variety, great service and cool tunes

Cons: don't deliver to greenpoint.

freshest ingredients, all good quality, no cardboard cans of cheese here. Reminds me of my fav place in Rome near the train station.
Try the dishes, real fine.

from the moment i walked in to paying the bill i felt i was getting what i expect when i choose to eat out rather than stay home.we tried samples of most of the menu as and liked each one better than the next.we had a couple of questions not only was the waiter helpful the owner felt responsible enough to come over answer any questions and cater to our specific needs.I can cook -when i go i out i look for the whole package and the experience did not disappoint especially the food.

I had never been to Brooklyn. We went to Fornino for a late lunch. The pizza was out of this world and the place had a feel that made us sad to leave. Just a really great vibe. We thought the prices were fair as well. My first visit to brooklyn was a great experiance thanks to Fornino.

This is a very nice Italian restaurant and the owners are really friendly. They live in town so it is nice to get to know them. The food is good and reasonably priced. They also do a very nice catering for a party or other event.

Truly delicious pizza - the Lombardi, with proscuitto and arugula, and the Margherita are my favorites. It's a comfortable neighborhood place, though service can be a bit unattentive at times. The tiramisu is some of the best I've ever had.

As a fan of traditional/authentic italian pizza, I was a bit dubious of a place called "the Art and Science of pizza (all the more that I heard bad comments about the so-called "attitude" of the staff). The pizzas are just awesome. Thin Crust. Delicious tomato sauce and the freshest ingredients. Ive tried many different pizzas (take-out) and Ive never been disappointed. Im definitely converted.

Pizza was cooked too fast. Chared outer crust and a cold, undercooked inner crust. Besides that it was tastey. I dont think they deserve the 2nd spot. sorry.

Not a big pizza eater but on occasion there is nothing like a little italian pie delivery...I'm also a bit of a food snob and so I was very excited by Fornino's menu and claim of commitment to local farmers and quality ingredients. However the last thing I expected was the restaurant to refuse delivery to an apt which is a 12 minute walk away (am i crazy?). Hopefully someday this will change and I can return join the numerous 4 and 5 star ratings.

I have lived in Williamsburg for years and though I lament how crowded it's become, a restaurant like this one is a welcome addition. I do caution those who are used to "regular" pizza, however. I think pizza baked in a wood-burning oven is a taste you either love or hate. I took my father here when he was in town and he just didn't like it. They did send out a very burned pizza the first time. We sent it back and they were very nice about making a new one, as they should have been. It should have never been sent to our table in the first place. Anyway, I thought it was good, not the best I've ever had, but good, and the service was better than most places in Williamsburg.

Wow I went to Fornino's last night for the first time and had the most amazing pizza ever! Fungi Misti, yum.. cheezy, mushroomey and the perfect amount of truffle oil. My waitress was very helpful explaining the menu to me and she also recommended a spectacular wine that was only$32. This was one of the more expensive bottles, they start at $18. The also just started selling this new gellatti and I was in heaven, I'll come back just for that. I can't wait for the patio to open.

decent pizza, and a couple of ok wines. blah atmosphere, and disinterested, though usually adequate service. This is really just a take-out joint. The "restaurant" part is a mere afterthought, and on that level, it shows a degree of contempt for the customer that is irritating.

The spinach pizza is basically heaven on a crust. I have cravings for it and (luckily) live close enough o be able to go weekly if the need arises...I fear moving out of brooklyn because of this amazing pizza! Plus the wine list under $30 a bottle doesn't hurt...
The staff can kind of be...meh. But for the price (my girlfriend and I can split a small pizza and a bottle of wine for less than $35) you can't beat it and I'll take the semi surly waitstaff

The dine-in service is mediocre and slow. And the take-out staff are downright cluelessly rude (seriously, there's one guy up front most evenings just does NOT belong in a job that requires him to interact with humans). It's just not worth the trouble. Too bad, because the pizza is quite good (when it's not served/delivered cold because of the inattentive staff).

I went to Fornino last saturday, after hearing so much about the pizza. I came with a full apetite, and had a truly amazing experience. The menu was a bit intimidating, but the delightful waitress offered some recomendations. I chose the Al Roker, and I can't rave enough about it. I had an amazing experience, great service, great food. What more can a person ask for. I definately would definately recommend this place.

I have one agenda in my reviews. Is it worth your time and money?
I went to Fornino's on Bedford on December 28th, 2006 and it was incredible.
Worth every moment spent waiting for the broken down L train and every penny spent there in the restaurant.
We ordered one of the salads, a remarkable salad with very mild flavors and very fresh ingredients.
Then came the pizza. I was with a vegetarian friend of mine so we ordered the spinach, truffle oil and cheese pizza. It was fantastic. Filled with flavor and perfectly cooked. All fresh ingredients, which I later found out after seeing them on Victory Garden, are augmented by the owner's greenhouse in the back of the restaurant.

This is the best pizza I've ever had, worthy of many repeat visits. I can't wait to try some more there.
Next time I'll add a little meat to it... or maybe not.

I've never written a review before, but had such a bad experience here I had to share. I'd been to this place a bunch of times in the past (live in the area) and always had rich, complex pizza with fresh ingredients that I raved about to friends and family and even offered up as competition to Grimaldi's and Lombardi's (before the renovation) - but I have to say that last Friday night changed all that. I doubt I would recommend it to anyone again. We ordered two salads, buffala mozz. & tomato and the arugula & pear and then the gorgonzola pizza. my mouth was watering expecting fresh cheese and a pizza to follow that would have sweet, caramelized onions nestled in with tangy gorgonzola and rosemary (as it says on the menu). Instead, we got buffala mozzarella that was so 'off' that the center had started to lose it's firmness and resemble ricotta and had fermented to the point that it fizzed on the tongue. When I mentioned to the waitress that the cheese was maybe bad she gave me a quizzical look and asked what I meant and when I explained that I didn't know much about the difference between regular and buffala mozz. but that this tasted like cheese soda and fizzed when I ate it she looked even more confused but, at least, offered to take it off the check. However, neither the manager nor the chef came by to appologize for serving bad food. Then the pizza arrived. With a pool of rendered gorgonzola oil in the middle where swam BARELY cooked onions, forget any thought of caramelization. ick. I didn't even want to taste it let alone look at it. It was greasy, you couldn't taste the cheese as it was now pooled in oil on my plate, the rosemary was non-existent, and the onions didn't add anything except slime and an unappealing crunchyness. I may try this again to see if they were just having an off night but I certainly won't be raving about it or giving out recommendations.

I just got home from what amounted to a major waste of time tonight. After avoiding pizza for several weeks.

One, there was no pop to it, unlike at Grimaldis where there was a line outside despite the cold weather.
Two, it was an unprofessional greeting when we came in and there was no excuse for this as it was half empty.
Third, the waitress was completely unhelpful. I asked simple questions, like, what is the signature pizza here...what would you choose. She responded as though i was inconveniencing her. She made it seem like we should feel guilty for asking questions about the menu.
Four, waitress service was transitioned half way through the meal and switched back for dessert.
Five, i did happen to notice that annoying danceathon going on in the front. Hideous.
Six. The appetizer platter is nothing to write home about.
Seven. The pizza really isn't that special. Not bad, but slightly oggy, too thin and not bursting with flavor. Why is it that the thin crust pies always seem to get such strong ratings. Its as though 'gourmet' is in a different echelon just because its smaller and served by the pie.
Eight. The Spumino came without Pistachio, when that is the reason i ordered it, and the explanation given for its absence was wholly unacceptable.
Nine. Took forever to get the check when we were clearly done. Perhaps thats the miscommunication between waitresses as we were equally uncertain who was the main point of contact on our meal.
Ten. No exit thank you or acknowledgement.

I would seriously save your time if you are thinking of journeying outside of your local neighborhood for this place. Clearly someone was manipulating the votes, because I MAKE pizza just as good.

Pros: Pizza Not Bad

Cons: Service, Appetizers, Dessert

.

Yes, the pizza are great and tasty
but that's it ! Appetizer doesn't have their attention and they have no idea how to make dessert. I received a tiramisu in a Wine glass ! ! !
But most of all the service is very bad. From the host who doesn't pay any attention to you and prefer to shake his boutey behind the counter, + always change the music volume depending his mood, to the waitress who believe that no exchange of words with customer is already too much work !
The worst is the owner who doesn't seems taking care of that ! !
Still have to learn a lot about the art of science of customer service

if you want good italian food in williamsburg, you have to go to the italian places. Bamontes for one is the absolute best old italian restaurant, been there for ages & still family owned & real italy food. And if you want real good italian pizza, leave bedford ave & go into the italian side of williamsburg & try any of the 10 pizzerias across union ave. don't forget williamsburg used to be real italian, not just trendy bedford ave.

Its OK pizza, but I don't see how/why it would stand out so much that it gets to the top of the NYC pizza charts. Its a place to bring your out of town friends to and they will enjoy. Good location. Interesting menu concept. Its pizza though....if you need all this fluff to enjoy a slice or two by all means go here. I am fine with local pizzerias free of yuppies and euro trash thank you very much.

I think locals rate this place so high. After the review I treked into Brooklyn. First off, the waitress was completely unattentive the 2 times we saw her(odd in a restaurant with 6 tables) and got our order wrong. The plain pizza was soggy and the creative wild mushroom(third generation-Fornini) pizza we had was drenched with truffle oil in the middle( again making it soggy) and nothingon the rest. I love when restaurants think using fancy expensive ingrediants makes the food fine cuisine, even with no idea how to use them.

Anyway, this is the last time I cross the williamsburg.

We went here for lunch a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday, and I was thoroughly impressed with the food. The pesto pizza was excellent, thin-crust pizza with a nice amount of spicy Italian cheese that I'd never heard of before. Conveniently located too, being right on Bedford ave. THe back garden sitting area is very pleasant, where you can see their personal herb garden. I will definetly be going back.

A lovely restaurant with delicious food and good service. You would never think you were on Bedford Ave, where every place is hyped up for no reason. A very pleasant surprise.

I come from a family of pizzeria owners, and I'm almost ashamed to say that the pizza in Fornino's blows my families receipies away. It is simply amazing. The place is so cool and the service is prompt and curtious. I highly recommend to anyone to give this place a try. You will find yourself returning quite often.

P.S. Please don't tell anyone in my family i eat there. LOL

Right off the L in Brooklyn this is a nice cozy place with good pizza. Mine was a little burnt but still delicious with goat cheese and panchetta (raddichio was kind of bitter though). My friend got the mushroom pizza which tasted better. The sangria was pretty tasty and good on a hot muggy day. Kind of a small place but I guess if they are not too busy might be able to fit a group or kids. Overall I would recommend it and go back again.

Coming from Boston this place is like Emma's Pizza in Kendall Square in Cambridge (although they have more funky toppings!)

don't be fool w/this pizza spot. you can't just buy a slice because everything is freshly made to orders. Come here and expect to be seated and served by a waitress. The food is amazing. their beers are 5 dollars and wine is 5 dollars too. Great pizza and a great value. You won't be disappointed!

WHEN YOU WALK IN YOU SEE A MAGNIFICENT WOODBURNING BRICK OVEN. THE LIGHTING IS ALL HANDBLOWN GLASS, I AM TOLD THAT THE OWNER MICHAEL AYOUB MADE THEM. THEY HAVE A GREENHOUSE IN THE BACK FOR HERBS. THE PIZZA WAS THE BEST I HAVE EVER TASTED AND THE SELECTION OF 25 PIZZA IS UNPARELLELED. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT FOR ANYONE WHO LOVES PIZZA. BEING STEPS FROM THE L TRAIN MAKES IT VERY CONVENIENT

This is our favorite place for date night. Even with the thousands of restaurants in the city, this is where we keep coming back to. The Beatles are always playing, the staff is always friendly and the food is always amazing. The atmosphere is great for promoting a little romance. Back in November this is where we got engaged!!

The Margherita [Extra] pizzas are deceptively simple and cheap. Three toppings (fresh mozzerella, basil & tomato) and a thin crust are perfectly balanced, leaving those who taste it craving more. It's even great warmed up in the oven the next day. It is very nearly the perfect pizza.

Also delicious is the 4 Stagioni, which combines fresh mozzerella, prosciutto, mushrooms, eggplant and kalamata olives. The only thing I would suggest is that its creators cut the olives in half so that they don't roll off the pizza. I've also tried the Rustica, which was good, except I didn't love the Guanciale (bacon).

A word to the wise: Order the larger version of the pizza. The small version serves one person easily, but for only $2 more, you can serve 2-3.

They also deliver... quickly.

This place was just a little small but the food was great. Service was amazing... The menu has plenty of choices and they will make the pizze however you would like. Not a great place for groups but a perfect place for a date.

This place is a real treasure. the pizza is just amazingly Italian - thin crunchy crust and the finest ingredients. What adds to the place is the attentive service and the fantastic value. Go for it.
