I was visiting my Aunt & Uncle in NYC with my 2 sister's and wanted to take them for dinner. They suggested the Cloister Cafe and I am glad they did. The service was great and the food was amazing. We had 2 apps, 5 entres, a bottle of wine

I like to come here and enjoy some hookah. It is $20 for 4 people and they have tons of flavors. There is also a 1 min. beverage charge but that is nothing. I just got an iced mint tea to go with my hookah. The hookah lasted 2 hours

Fittingly, the decor inside Cloister matches what you would expect to see at a church. The pleasantly sacrilegious ambiance for smoking hookah and drinking fine wine adds to your inebriating experience.\r

"I had a mojito, which was ok.

Most unique aspect - both bathrooms have 2 toilets in it! In my tipsy state, it took me by surprise. But it's cool, I'll often share a cubicle with my gf. But this takes that to another level."

Dear fellow New Yorkers & Visitors of NYC,

I have never written a review of any sort for any service.. until this place got my unwithering attention.
I hope this signals the seriousness of my intent to put an end to this madness.

FOOD..... Hogwash. Never tasted anything so repulsive. Pasta, Seafood, Poultry... you name it. Even the wine tasted terrible (no joke)

SERVICE..... Seen more excitement at the morgue. Walking dead. Couldn't get any worse. Should have left $0 tip, but didn't want any drones chasing me

ATMOSPHERE.... Smells AWFUL (first I've seen a restaurant serve 'Water Pipes', initially thought it was something else, but okay give them credit for a different approach. HOWEVER it surely enough reminds you of foul stench similar to Marijuana. To some this may be tolerable, but the problem is you can't taste your own food because the smell dominates)

BOTTOM LINE.... Avoid like the plague. Even if it's your friend's last dying wish

Cons: Food, Service, Experience.... EVERYTHING.

Sit in the garden, order up some drinks, and chill out. I honestly can't remember what I ordered to eat, because the champagne was so cheap, but whatever it was I really liked it. Service isn't great, but it works when you just want to be left alone, and they'll let you hang out until you want to leave. Desserts were amazing!

Without a doubt the worst restaurant service I've ever experienced. My colleagues and I, all in the restaurant business, are wary about complaining about service. However, we were made wait 20 minutes on a quiet Sunday night for a waitress, who then neglected to offer us bread or water, and brought wrong drinks (which we were charged for). One meal failed to arrive until well after the rest of us had finished. Nobody came to check on us. My steak and my friend's filet mignon were cooked at wrong temperatures. No apology or explanation was offered for so many mistakes. Also, the overloud euro-style techno music didn't help, nor did the garbage-strewn fountain (God help the poor fish in there). 200 bucks later, we'd just had our first and last meal at this poorly run establishment. Note to management, Train your waitstaff!!

My friend in the East Village discovered this place that he said looked amazing and had to take me to. I loved the ambiance: the grapevines, the fountains - it was very wonderful. The ginger/soy sauce on the tofu dish I had was really good and added something special to the bites of salmon my date shared with me. Upon leaving I felt like I was leaving a secret garden and stepping back into the urban jungle. Definitely worth a return trip.
