Comedy Show on Friday
by Lisa N.
I went to the Doug Benson comedy show at the HOB last Friday and I was very very disappointed! I have never been the one to complain, but we left the House of Blues venue with a very bitter taste in our mouth that night. Apparently this was one of the first comedy shows done at the HOB San Diego and I suggest they brief their security staff prior to the next one if anyone shows up.A few friends and I attended the show and were very disappointed to have up to 6-7 hecklers sitting next to us on the right side of the room. They were not only rude, but they were extremely disrespectful to the people around them as well as both of the performers. The yelling and talking continued throughout the entire show, so bad that we couldn't even hear the performers. It completely ruined the experience for us and we felt like we wasted our money. To top off this awful experience we complained and security did NOTHING! It was so bad that it got to the point where Doug Benson himself had to stop the show and say something to them! You know it is bad when the performer has to stop and say something.Afterwards we asked to speak to a manager. Not only was this just our group complaining but almost everyone that was sitting in our area. Once we found the manager he not only did not care that we were unhappy and that there were about 15 of us complaining but he said we should have complained sooner. This is absolutely uncalled for and a total waste of money. I do not suggest that anyone goes to a comedy show at the HOB. It was an awful experience!

Great place to go for a concert. It is a small venue so no matter where you stand you can still see the band. They have all ages shows, 21+, and two for one Tuesdays. You can eat there preshow or eat anywhere else in the Gaslamp. im not a huge fan of their menu, but the atmosphere is fantastic.

If youre looking for a truly unique venue in the Gaslamp, the House of Blues on Fifth is sure to please. As San Diegos new home for live music and Southern-Inspired cuisine, the artistic environment celebrates African-American cultural contributions of blues music and folk art like never before. In the decorative music hall patrons can find a healthy taste of almost every music genre imaginable: Rock 'n' Roll, Punk, Alternative, Heavy Metal, Rap, Country, Hip-Hop, Rhythm and Blues, Rock en Espaol, Jazz, Folk, and Electronica. A passion for the south is reaffirmed with the one-of-a-kind menu, which blends artistic adaptations of traditional Southern favorites such as Creole Jambalaya with enticing dishes like Pan-Seared Voodoo Shrimp and Mediterranean Style Calamari. Whether youre in the mood to catch one of their great live acts, or enjoy dinner with friends, House of Blues has clearly made it their goal to soothe the soul.

I always enjoy going to different House of Blues and this one is no different, the rooms are well themed and the sound is great, definately a great place for a concert. Just bring your standing shoes, little if any sitting area.

This is the latest House of Blues to open, and it is pretty nice. In addition to a huge restaurant area and bar, the actual concert area is rather uniquely designed with the upper level offering seating and a bar and the lower level going up to the stage and another bar. Beer is, of course, very pricey, and in the concert bars, it is served in a can. On the upside, the accoustics were pretty good.
