Valets in LA are usually kinds rough on cars, but these guys scraped up the passenger-side pretty badly, and then refused to pay for it. They had me fill out a bunch of forms, but it ended up being just for show. Not the first time these guys have damaged cars, either. Bar is ok, but not worth it in the end. IF YOU DON'T WANT YOUR CAR DAMAGED, DON'T PARK HERE.

We thought we would give it a go and stop in for beautiful scene, drinks and apps last night . The view steals the show and the music was pleasant. The loungs WAS NOT busy and after waiting nearly 15 minutes for service we finally ordered drinks and apps from the bar and had it delivered to our table. Our server disappeared, never to be seen again, so our desire for more drinks and apps went unsatisfied. Realizing that this lounge is more self service style wishing to be something more we chose to leave and spend our time and money elsewhere. What a shame to have such a wonderful location and view of the city and then waste it away on below par service and average food. We will most certainly not return or suggest this establishment as a place to visit.

Pros: Fabulous view

Cons: Customer Service, Food is Average at Best

I took my girlfriend there for Valentine's and had the worst experience. First the hostess was rude when she didn't bother to greet, then she took us the a table where our table is squeezed between four other tables, we had to whisper so the couples next to us wouldn't hear us. Then we had the waiter approach us in about 10 minutes after we've sat down, after he brought our bread and butter, we had to wait an additional 15 minutes for the waiter to arrive again and take our dinner order when he was just standing around and checking out everyone, wtf? Then we had a different waiter to serve us but he was acting like a total dueshe if you know what i mean. So me and my gf got really angered and left the restaurant and complained to the manager about how its a simple formula for any business to succeed is customer service and how his restaurant employees are just a bunch of inconsiderate a-holes. Ive never walked out of a restaurant in my life so you can imagine how awful it was especially on Valentine's day. Only good thing about the place is its design, but its not the worth the hassle you will get from their pathetic service.

i totally recommend this spot. on top of their incredible drink specials, they have a super friendly staff and to be at this place at sunset is just incredible. the views and colors that come through are the best for any setting. highly recommend this place as a date spot though.

Its hard to put into words how much I enjoy eating at West. The food and service is spectacular, the maitre de even manages to memorize your name. I highly recommend the fondue; it comes with both caramel and chocolate pots to dip the best selection of fruits, toasted marshmallows and brownies. Delicious!

To be fair, I went to West on a Monday...and I went EARLY. Like 4:30 PM early. That said, my date and I sat at the window and enjoyed the view. Service was friendly and just good. I love that they serve "gourmet" potato chips at the bar. We got the Tuna tartare appetizer, which was delicious. However, I usually like the tuna to be a bit more chopped up than it was. I was unaware until the bill came that it was happy hour. West does half price drinks from 4-7, which is awesome. The bloody Mary was spicy as hell and my date had a lychee's martini that she just couldn't stop raving about. West is definitely worth checking out.

The view is their best asset, food is mediocre at best, service slow. What 's an Italian steakhouse?

I've had some great meals, The Ivy, Mastro's etc. I recently met my girlfriends for dinner at West at their suggestion and I can't wait to go back!

We started at the bar where the bartender was friendly and attentive. he chose a great Cabernet for me. We convened to the table where we had an excellet waitress who was able to give her opinion on several of the dishes. We ordered Antipasti to share. the Crostini, smoked mozzarella and something I didn't try. We had the Lobster Bisque as an appetizer and I am literally still dreaming about it. Buttery and incredible. Really an amazing soup and the lobster was perfection (no rubbery-ness here!!). Dinner was the Flatiron steak with a side of truffle mac n cheese. There are not words to describe that combo. The steak was easily as good as Mastro's (it might be blasphemous to say it was better!). It cut like butter. Even though I was full, I had to finish the truffle mac n cheese and can't wait to get back for more. My girlfriends and I split the desert of chocolate lava cake because we just had to "try" the desert. Our server was an absolute doll and extremely attentive and helpful.

I should point out that I am not at all a "foodie" so the fact that I'm reviewing West at all is a testament to its perfection. this is easily my new favorite restaurant and my husband is now dying to have dinner there simply because I can't shut up about the place. You must try it. The view, the food, the staff. It's fantastic....

Sophisticated, swanky spot with gorgeous views of Brentwood, modern furniture, great atmosphere... perfect for a date! Very "Hollywood" without the attitude... or commute! Small but decent wine list and good assortment of cockails. The food was just so-so. Was not impressed. Crowd was in the 30s-40s on a Thursday night.

Went for Sunday Birthday Brunch. Service was lackluster at best. The restaurant was not busy at all, but getting the waitress to come by was near impossible. We waved at the hostess who was in view, but she was too busy looking at herself in the mirror to notice us. I guess she had a pimple that was bothering her. The waitress just disappeared for extended periods. We asked for some bread and instead of bring a basket of bread for the table, they brought a basket and asked each guest to select one. The waitress got one of the orders wrong. The food was ok, fancy presentation, but nothing great. Small foofy portions.
There are much better restaurants in West L.A. I had a better experience when it was the Holiday Inn.
I will not return.

I celebrated my 25th birthday here on Saturday night and it couldn't have been better! My boyfriend made reservations in advance and we were seated with a great view. We happened to meet the new chef in the elevator, he was friendly and told us about his special of the evening. I ordered it and it was AMAZING! Everything I've ordered here has been great. The fondue dessert is particularly impressive and serves a whole table of people!

What's even better is the bar. The Maitre D was very attentive and reserved a space for about 15 friends to join us for cocktails. It's very comfortable couch-type seating with a great view of the 405 and the city. The service is great and the cocktails are unique and very tasty. I recommend the Lychee Martini that is actually served with fresh lychees, or a raspberry champagne drink that is served with beautiful fresh berries.

I'm surprised that this place wasn't more crowded, and the fact that it wasn't made it a great atmosphere for my relatively large party. Everyone agreed that they had a very nice time.

Pros: Great view, great food, great service

Cons: A little pricey and you have to valet park.

.

I thought all the food was tasty. Crab cakes, lamb, filet mignon. They were all good. The service was not that great and I rarely comment about service. The food took maybe 20 minutes. I didn't get water. They didn't clear the dishes. Not horrible, just not very attentive.

The restaurant itself is nice, but the acoustics inside make it louder than most places and you have to talk louder because they have music playing.

By the way, they only have valet parking. I am not a big fan of valet parking.

As a point of interest, I enjoy a meal through a website; to follow the hype, the ritz and most of all, the public?s perception of ?what?s good? and ?what?s bad?. I?m not one for taking another?s word about a place so I venture there myself to find out if my companion?s opinion is just expressing a culinary morose view or if they truly have something to say. Under the supposition of the last two posts titled ?disappointing? and ?unbelievably bad? (the latter whose nomenclature does not accurately depict the scene of that evening, please read) as well as the view that is Pavlovianly talked about at the mention of WEST, I found the perfect challenge. If they?re great then I?ve just had an enjoyable evening. If they?re as bad as some believe then I have an interesting story to tell my friends. Walking in, one has a hypnotic view of the 405, and our Pacific on the particular day I visited. The service was crisp, just as the Riesling I ordered (also with a screw cap that didn?t deter my server one bit). The steaks ? dry aged for nearly 40 days my server explained ? were ethereal and the gnocchi were pillows of pasta purgatory as I couldn?t satiate the desire for more. Although I was not met with the same service disappointment as some (which can be mockingly delightful) it was an overall pithy service experience. At the conclusion of the meal, my desire to let the General Manager know of my internalized pleasure was circumvented by Luciano himself (the GM) dropping by the table to say ?Hi? and thank me for coming in. Top notch my friends, top notch.

Cons: Does someone have a love affair with Michael Buble?

Wow!! How this place improved. It always had a fantastic view, now the food and service measures up to skyline. We started dinner with antipasti, perfect! What a great new selection. I could have been satisfied with just them all night. You must try the mini eggplant parmesan. My wife had the crab cake, best we've ever had. It was so good I made her share it. I had the chop salad. I really loved the dressing and feta combo. For entrees she had the fish special (bass) and I had the bone-in NY steak. My meat was cooked to perfection. What a change. I highly recommend giving a West another try. It's worth it. The new chef and new mangers have turned this into a secret find.

The service was slow, our waitress couldn't open a twist off wine bottle and had to go get help. This was after we had to ask for a wine list. The food was just adequate. The lamb chops were nothing special served with a polenta parmesan which had too much parmesan. John Dorry was nothing special. The Kobe beef carpaccio had a over-powering sauce on it which isn't needed. The views would be better if the windows weren't tinted dark. The bar was nice and the best views are from the lounge. We had to wait nearly a half hour for our reserved table at 8:30pm. Would not go there again.

We had a terrible meal there a few weeks ago. When I wrote the manager, he immediately wrote back, apologized, and requested another try. This second was an entirely different experience: good steaks, lots of nice touches (like the red wine dipping sauce), all kinds of tasty li'l treats (beef ravioli was memorable; some equally yummy things I couldn't fully identify). It's encouraging (and vanishingly rare) to see a restaurateur who admits imperfection, and has the faith to let his food redeem itself. Next thing you now we'll have a politician who admits error, and.....Naaaah!

My wife and I are always looking for the diamond in the rough when it comes to great dinner places and we definitely found one at West. It is on the top floor of the Hotel Angeleno in Brentwood and the elevator lets you out right at the host counter. We arrived with a reservation and the hostess informed us she would seat us in ten minutes. She then walked us into the lounge and asked if we would feel more comfortable waiting in there. What? Someone cares about how comfortable I am? That's great!!! We sat at the bar and had a drink and, just like she said, the hostess returned in 10 minutes to bring us to our table.

The table was amazing! Right at the window overlooking Brentwood (and the 405) and for the first time I thought the 405 actually looked pretty. The white and red lights were actually kind of soothing. lol! Beyond this point, things just got better. The service was amazing. Our waiter was friendly, engaging, and made us feel like we while we dined there we would be taken care of. And that was the truth. Our steaks were fantastic, the pear salad was surprisingly good (my wife's choice), very impressive wine list, and, what more can I say, everything was great. Reading some of the bad reviews before I wrote this shocked me. My wife and I will definitely return and tell our friends about this place. Cheers!

Pros: View, Service, Food

Cons: Location (but worth it for the view)

I was really looking forward to this place, but was so disappointed. We spent 180.00 on dinner for 2. I had 2 drinks, my husband drove so nothing for him. I looked at the wine list and it was not very good. The list was over priced and choices few. The food was so bland. The martini was average, nothing seasoned properly. My husand ordered the potatos( they are all a la carte) loaded w/ lemon. It was so tart that I had to remove it from my mouth. When we asked if they could give us potatos w/out the over powering lemon. The chef refused and sent a watery mash. It must have been boiled to death and used a veg or chix stock rather then milk or cream. This is after we asked the potato to be replaced w/ some steamed spinach(w.c was offered on the menu). A steak was orderd med. well, it was brought to the table RARE! My salmon was over done and buttered to death, so greasy. We dine out a lot , and don't mind spending money on good food, but this was so bad. This place tried to mimick top restaurants with the decor and semi okay service, but the food is by far nothing, nothing. I have no idea where the chef went to Culinary school, but I guess he miss the day when cooking was being taught. seriously if you are a food lover and enjoy good restaurants and wine, don't come here! You will be very disappointed. You are warned.

I like the ambience at West. Nice view (yes, even if it's of the 405) and no hassles getting in. The lounge menu is ok. The service, however, is horrible. Waitresses are slow and rude. They seem to be doing you a favor by even bringing you the overpriced drinks. We ordered a sandwich that came with fries. No ketchup. I had to ask for it twice. Next, I get a ketchup bottle that was sealed. The incompetent waitress didn't bother even getting the plastic seal off the bottle. I had to ask for water 3 times before getting a glass. Oh, and there were a total of 6 people all around the lounge, none of whom were desperately ordering drinks. The waitress and the bartender seemed more interested in chatting with their friends than taking care of customers. They didn't even bother providing parking validation - I had to ask for that too.

We were two couples, went on a Saturday night. The place has a cool vibe, the decor is posh - and love the comfortable chairs. No problem getting our table. Great acoustics, we were able to talk without shouting. As the night evolved the music level goes up, lights went down, I thought very nicely timed. Love the DJ and live sax player, very nice and a unique experience (somewhat like Geisha House, but not as loud). Although the service was a bit slow - getting drinks, bread came with our entree's even after asking, the food was really good. 'Crab Cakes' on the menu is actually one crab cake, which the waiter pointed out, they should change that on their menu. The lamb was cooked just the way I wanted - friends had the Veal and the Porterhouse for two, all said it was delicious.
We would go back. The bill came to $300 for 4 of us with drinks, wine and appetizers. Considering the night before we'd gone to Ammo and spent the same, I'd rather spend it at West.

Pros: Good Scene, Tasty Food, DJ & sax player

My girlfriend and I brought my mom to West to celebrate her 65th birthday tonight. The atmosphere was nice and the food was good, but nothing to write home about. No matter where I go, it all comes down to service. I made my reservation yesterday and indicated it was a birthday celebration and then called on my way to the restaurant to confirm again it was for a birthday - the receptionist told me it was already in the computer and not to worry. So that was exactly what I did - you can say that was bad advice. We ordered a dessert and it came out missing the candles. I excused myself to speak to the concierge and expressed my dissappointment. Some time went by so I got up again to find the manager. The reason for getting up of course was to avoid my mom knowing anything was wrong. I found him (also found out he was only 3 weeks on the job) and told him to take care of it in an appropriate manner and then walked away. A few minutes later he came to the table to discuss the situation (just what I didn't want - my mom had no idea what was going on until then) - I asked him not to discuss it any further and just to take care of it. A minute later the waiter comes to me and tells me he will be removing the $25 corkage fee and the cost of the dessert to compensate for the mistake. Again, this disrupted our evening and made my mom once again aware of the problem and as far a I was concerned this slight discount hardly compensated for forgetting to bring out a candle lit birthday cake. Where was the replacement dessert with the candles in it. That was all I really wanted. A discount would be an appropriate gestures for the error, but not if the candle celebration never came. I do not recommend this restaurant if you expect anything close to good service!

Pros: Views and ambience

Cons: Extremely Bad Service

I don't mind spending $$$ if a place has good food or good atmosphere - this place has neither! I go out 4x a week and I can't remember being this upset after a meal. I even signed up on Citysearch so that I could leave this message!!!

Food = OK. Service = TERRIBLE. Rude - slow - snobby (but they have NOTHING to be snobby about!)

Don't go.

If I had to figure out a word to describe this restaurant, over rated would be an understatement. The food portions were very small, the prices were exhorbitant, the food was poorly cooked and the service was terrible. It took 30 minutes just to get our drinks. The well drinks are 10 dollars and are as cheap as they come. The house wine was 11 dollars, for a wine that you can buy for 7 dollars a bottle at a grocery store. Everyhting on the menu is a la carte, you have to find your side orders and pay extra for each item. I ordered a 29 dollar steak that was supposed to be 14 ounces, I got a 7 ounce steak with a bone chip in it. Service was extremely slow with the food and the drinks. It seemed that if you were a new patron and the bartenders did not know you, they would completely ignore you. We had to start waving money across the bar to get acknowledged, and this was not even a busy night. The bartending staff was also not well trained, the female bartender didn't even know how to make a Mudslide. If I could make one suggestion to the management and staff, that would be to go back to being a sports bar.

Perfect place if you want to hang out in the lounge have a few drinks and some food.
Or get a table with a beautiful view around sunset, but make reservations ahead of time for the a good spot. Great food & Wine selection, the chef even came out and introduced himself and asked how were enjoying our meal, and recomended a fantastic dessert for us to try.
