Went in here over the New Years holiday, with an idea for what I wanted. I first off asked for a quote and being the tattoo novice, asked about a million questions.

The people there were very patient and explained the ups and downs of the tattoo size/pricing/etc.

I decided to pull the trigger and away I went for my 2nd tattoo. Very professional work, but in an environment which I felt very, very comfortable. Very clean as well I must say. I had my work done with Chris, so be on the lookout for him, but seems to me that everyone there is extremely talented. Can't go wrong with anyone it'd seem!

Go check it out if you're in the Allston area.

unbelievable shop the artist are very attentive and very talented the shop is clean and neat appointments are best but walk-ins seem to do ok. I've even seen them at the tattoo convention and they seem to be quite the draw. highly recommend

I have steered so many people here for body art! The artists are so skilled and they are also really nice- none of that "we're so cool" attitude you get in so many places. Super clean too.

So, I'm a college student from Boston. I've always been into tattoos and pierces. When you look at me you'd think otherwise. However, if anyone is thinking of getting either a tattoo or piercing I suggest you go to Stingray, these people know exactly what they are doing. In the past two years I know have 5 tattoos. The first one I ever got was a small little writing just because I was still a bit nervous. Now I have a huge tattoo on my back that is barely a month old.

If you are into pierces GO THERE. The place is really clean which is excellent for both tattoo and piercing hygiene. Again, in the past 2 years I've gotten a total of 10 pierces. No they are not obvious but believe me they are there. That piercer is incredibly skilled, Abby and knows what she is doing. She also helps prepare you when she is about to stick the needle.

The tattoo artists I can't even start with that. They are just great and friendly and they will do what you ask and even give suggestions as to what would be better. They are all wonderful in their own particular field and even if they do something they are not used to tattooing they still do a hell of a good job, I can't complain.

The atmosphere is just great I even bring the dog at the store section where they have the lizard, everything is laidback and chill. As for one of the reviews from above who said the atmosphere wasn't good, she probably just met the "chihuahua girl" she's little, annoying, and rude. The artists and I have talked stuff about her, they don't even like her much either. If she's there with the short hair and glasses don't pay attention just make fun of her ignorant self and you'll have the best time of your life, haha I know I did, 2 tattoo artists and I were just talking junk about how rude she is and they need to fire her.

It's a great place give it a shot. At least go to the shop to just look around and have your opinion on it after all it's what you care that counts. I love that place.

I've always been afraid to get a tottoo. Not just for the pain and lifetime commitment, but mostly because I've always been afraid of the people in tattoo shops. I'd ventured into a few in Rhode Island, all populated with gruff peopl who didn't seem to like my presence. I had an eye-opening experience when I went into Stingray Body Art, in Allston. I was immediately greeted with a smile, the artists were in the waiting room chatting with customers. The receptionist was endearingly pleasant (and easy to look at, too!), and the whole experience was wonderful. I decided on a small simple piece, and they executed it perfectly. I couldn't be happier with my tattoo OR the fun I had getting it. I would recommend this place to EVERYBODY.

My friends and I are college students in the Boston area. For the past four years, we have given Stingray's Body art an abundance of business(roughly $300 a year). Mostly, we go there for our piercings, but have been trying to get tattooed there for quite some time. Upon arriving to get my friend's new tattoo, the apathetic and extremely abrasive girl at the front desk was rude (rolling her eyes and acting as if we had ruined her day by walking in and asking for her help), condescending, (treating my friend as if she wasn't worthy of having her tattoo done there, and acting as if she had not done any research), and frankly, she was a completely miserable witch. It's very upsetting because there are some great people that work there, ALWAYS go there for piercings! However, if you are not covered in tattoos upon arrival, expect to be treated as an annoyance, rather than a potential customer. After our terrible treatment we went down the road to another tattoo shop, where we were welcomed and treated like actual people. We told the artists about our multiple experiences (this was not the first time, but because we like some of the people we've tried to remain loyal to stingrays) and we were told that about 20% of this other shop's customer base were people who felt they were treated terribly at Sting Rays, so they took their business elsewhere. My advice: go to Stingrays for piercings. If you have anything else i mind, you will most likely be treated like a piece of, well, you get the idea. Personally, we won't be going there any time soon. It's good to have talented people, but what good is talent when you feel uncomfortable and unwelcome in the environment? it's YOUR money, it's YOUR tattoo, so enjoy the experience. aka. don't go to stingrays until they fire the front desk help.

So I've wanted a tattoo for 6 years, wanted the one that I finally got for almost 4 years. I live on Cape and I was looking for a place around here to go. There are not very many places down here, so I started looking in Boston. I used to live in Allston, where Stingray is located... and I asked some old friends and read online reviews... The only negative reviews I've read, are that the artists didn't talk much, and that a guy took a smoking break... I was tattooed by Nate and my little sister was tattooed by Chris. Chris let me sit and watch my little sis get hers done and was not extremely talkative, but was consistent in asking if she was ok, if she needed a break, etc. When she was done, Nate was ready for me... We chatted a little, I was un-comfortable, only because I was laying on my side with my arm above my head (I got the Red Sox "socks" on my ribs). He made me feel very comfortable and I LOVE the results... Again, it was my first tattoo, and it was great! We had a very good time and experience, and I would definitely go back there again, and I've already recommended other people there...

All in all it was a GREAT time!!!

And about the parking... I lucked out, I knew Allston and knew where to park... ;O)

Cons: Not Much!

Stingray is awsome! the atmosphere is so modern and relaxed. I went in to get a tattoo of a pitbull and cat, since i work at an animal shelter and i wanted something to represent that. Mike Helz did my tattoo. He did an awsome job! its black and grey, but has excelent detail and shading! i get so many compliments it should be illegal! haha... I was really nervous about this tattoo because i got it on my upper arm and i considered it a pretty big step although i already had seven tattoos before it. Mike and i didnt talk much but i didnt want to disturb his consentration so i was ok with that. He did take two smoke breaks which were a little annoying, but i noticed the hand he wasnt using shakes a little, so i figured if nicotene will keep him steady, SMOKE UP!! lolol My end result is just terrific and i couldnt be happier. The staff was very friendly, as i waited for mike to draw up my tattoo i talked to the girl at the desk, and becky the piercer, and she was super nice... she asked me what the tattoo meant to me and made me feel really relaxed while i waited. I will deffinatly go back to stingray, its a little bit on the pricey side, so it might take me a while. but SO worth it!

Recently I needed to have my navel re-pierced and wanted an additional piercing in my ear. I couldn't find anywhere to go and finally located Stingray. There I met Becky, the piercing artist and told her what I needed. She was very friendly and obviously knew what she was doing. Becky did a great job trying to comfort me while she was about to puncture my body with needles larger than I would prefer to ever see go into my flesh. She talked me through breathing exercises and did both of my piercings before I really had time to think about it. The piercings were pricey (I think I paid $135) but I at least felt confident about the work. Also, the store has some cool stuff - candles/journals/cloths/etc. So, even if you don't like self-mutilation, at least drop by the store to check out their cool goods.
