I have 2 children and have been using the Hilliard YMCA for the past 4 years. We have been very happy but we heard about Aquatic Adventures and thought that we would enroll our 4 year old into swimming lessons and see how it was.
I can not stress enough that SAFETY is not a priority here. My 4 year old can not swim yet and was in a class with 4 other 4 year olds. The instructor and the lifeguard were completely oblivious to what was going on. The instructor skipped my daughters turn to do the backstroke. Not a big deal but to a 4 year old it is the end of the world. The instructor took another child down to the other end of the pool. Turning her back on the class. My daughter tried to get the attention of the instructor and slipped off of the platform into the water. Normally, this is where an instructor or a lifeguard would realize what is going on as quickly get to her and get her out of the water. THANK GOD my wife was watching my daughter. At this point my daughter was completely under water and panicking to get a float. The lifeguard was not watching the water or he would have seen this happen. The instructor, again had her back turned. My wife who IS 8 MONTHS PREGNANT WITH TWINS, had to jump into the water, fully clothed and save my quickly drowning 4 year old.

Accidents happen, I get that but all Aquatic Adventures did was fill out an accident report and brush it under the rug. I did not even get an apology until I called and spoke to the Manager(Molly) the next day. I was told that I would get a refund for the class and she would investigate how this happened and call me back. She did not call me back at all. She had another person call me who processes the refunds call me. They did issue a refund and welcomed us back to the class but there is no way I would put my child in their hands again. The entire reason we put my children in swimming lessons is to learn to swim by a certified, qualified institution where I should not have to worry about my child's safety.
I would think twice about bringing a child here. Again my 8 month pregnant wife with twins had to jump in the water to save my 4 year olds life. This is ridiculous on so many levels and there was very little acknowledgment of the incident.

I've had my 5 yr old daughter here for swim lessons. The instructors I've had are wonderful. However, the facilities is second rate and not designed for families. There is no family locker room. If my husband were to bring our little girl to lessons - he couldn't go to the women's locker room and couldn't take her to the mens. The little boys being allowed into the women's locker room (no other choice) are too old to be there. The locker room is filthy, absolutely filthy. I found the front desk staff to be completely unknowledgeable about goggles. They tried to put my 5 yr old in adult women's goggles. A week in advance I attempted to change my daughter's lesson time and they would not even entertain the idea. Take the money and run must be the motto because good customer service certainly isn't. If this place stay in business - it will be in spite of themselves. Do yourselves a favor and go over to the YMCA for lessons... Facilities are better and the staff really cares.

I have had my daughter in Swimming Lessons at Aquatic Adventures for 2 years. She has grown to know the instructors as well as the front desk staff. It means a lot me that the desk staff know me by name when I call or we come in. I feel that my daughter has gotten a solid foundation to her swimming skills at AAO. Whenever there has been a problem I talk to the management and it is resolved quickly. AAO truly cares about their customers. They will go the extra mile and fit your kids for goggles or swimwear. I can't walk into a YMCA or city pool and get custom goggle fittings. I hope they build more facilities in the Columbus area.

Having had the opportunity to be a member at several swim facilities and OSU Larkin's over the last 20 years, I've found that all clubs have had qualified staffs and good facilities. Aquatic Adventures (I've been a member since the first season they opened) is far and away my favorite facility. The UV filter system is a huge improvement over traditionally chlorinated pools resulting in fewer skin irritations and much better air quality. Several mothers have mentioned that their children have recovered from exercise-induced asthma since swimming at Aquatic Adventures. The staff has been extremely kind and caring every single day without exception. Krista Conroy has recently given me lessons and has done a marvelous job. She is the only instructor in 40 years to ever get into the pool and look underwater at what I was doing. She was able to give me very valid information from this. If you are a interested lap swimmer or parent, give Aquatic Adventures a try. I don't think you will be disappointed. The pool and facility are very clean, the lap lanes are always up, the hours are very generous. We are incredibly fortunate to have a facility of this quality available to the public at a reasonable fee. It is only available because the owners are committed to having a dive shop and helping young people to swim in Columbus, Ohio.

I recently signed my 4 year old up for swimming lessons at Aquatic Adventures. Though he was initially excited, the first sesson didn't go well. He spent most of the lesson crying and asked a few times to get out. I was very proud that he did stay in for the whole lesson, even if he had difficulty with the exercises.

I talked to Krista after the lesson about whether or not to continue, and she was, indeed, very direct about leaving him in, but said she would come and observe the next lesson. As it turns out she was right on, if we hadn't returned, I honestly don't know if I would have ever gotten him to try lessons again.

The second week was similar with him not enjoying himself. Krista assured me this wasn't abnormal and we talked about several things to try at home in the tub, and offered to try give us some tips if he and I went to an open swim time.

Between the 2nd and 3rd lesson, in addition to practicing in the tub, he and I went together in the pool for nearly two hours. We had the pool almost to ourselves, and Krista spent an hour poolside suggesting things we could practice to increase his comfort level with the water.

At the beginning of the third lesson he didn't want to go in and was almost crying at the beginning. Within five minutes of the start with Krista and I cheering him on he put what we'd worked on into practice and he had a great lesson!

The fourth lesson he couldn't wait to go and had a blast always trying to be the first to do each exercise. Now whenever we drive by there he says "I want to go swimming!"

He's signed up for more lessons now, something I couldn't have imagined after lesson #1. I wish I'd started him earlier.

I really don't think getting past this block would have been possible
without the expertise and above and beyond effort put in by Krista.

I have 2 daughters 7 and 5. We have been swimming here for over 3 years and love it. My daughters have so much fun while learning. When my youngest was 3 she had a massive meltdown and the instructer sympathized and encouraged me to be brave and have her continue. It was awesome that she saw the two of us on the same page. Now we use swimming as physical therapy for my youngest and the teachers only have her best interests at heart. I would recommend Aquatic Adventures for families and individuals. I can't comment on air quality seeing that I'm not a professional...but it's warm and humid just like all inside pools.

I have been swimming at Aquatic Adventures for several years. The locker room and the pool are clean and kept in great conditon. The staff there have always been very helpful and friendly. Krista, in particular, has offered suggestions and helped me correct my swimming stroke. I really appreciate both the quality of the facility and the caliber of staff available at Aquatic Adventures. I recommend it to anyone looking for lessons or just wanting a great place to swim laps.

Several years ago I decided to get certified as a scuba diver and chose Aquatic Adventures Ohio (AAO) for my training. I have since received several certifications through AAO and have found all of the instructors to be professional and knowlegeable. A couple come off as a bit gruff at first but once you get to know them, they are really great people. Every dive instructor there does it on the side (not a full time job) and does so simply because they love it. The management is always seeking feedback on the instructors as well.
From a facilities standpoint, the pool is great - they use the lowest chlorine allowable and augment that with an Ultraviolet disinfection system so my dive gear is less exposed to chlorine when taking pool classes. There are restrooms on one side of the facility and locker rooms with restrooms and showers on the other. They have two pools - a lap pool and a really nice dive tank.
The retail dive center is one of the nicest I have seen - even compared to ones in Key Largo.
I can't really find anything to complain about - if anything the prices might be a little on the high side (on some things), but not that bad and the service more than makes up for it.
I can't speak to the swim lessons and such as that operates separately from the dive shop.
It is a nice place with great people I have gotten to know well over the years and I will continue to do business with them.

We took my very excited three year old daughter for her first swim lesson. The first thing I noticed is that they had us come a half hour early for no reason (there was no paperwork to complete). Secondly, I noticed that there were TWO toilets in the ladies changing room so I??m not sure, where women and child should actually pee, but I hope they test the water of both pools regularly for that.

My daughter became afraid of one of the exercises and refused to get back into the pool (even sit on the step to keep warm in the water). This was not the instructors fault (Jennifer). The instructor was very kind and professional. It??s just my daughter is three and sometimes three year olds get scared of doing new things with strangers. After 20 minutes of trying to calm her down, I went to find the manager of the facility to ask what is protocol in a situation like this. The manager is named Krista. I explained the situation and asked if they typically recommend 1-on-1 lessons when this happens or perhaps she needs to go into the Infant Class where I actually get into the pool with her. Instead Krista said, "Usually we just tell the kids to get back in the pool." Krista then informed me that when a child has a tantrum and gets her way, it reinforces the tantrum and then asked me if my just wasn??t upset about not being the center of attention? Then follows it with ??Maybe she doesn't like following instructions and being told to listen to a teacher?" I assured her that my daughter is able to follow instructions and that I just needed to know if she should change class formats or something like that. Krista still offered me NO options but instead, glanced at my husband, then back to me suggested, "Maybe your husband is gone so much with work and spends so little time with her, that when she finally gets to see him, she doesn't want to go away from him by getting in the pool." I was shocked. I could see that she was so busy assaulting our parenting skills that I wasn??t going to go be helpful at that point. I walked away from her and filled out a form for one to one lessons and then told Krista that I did so and she said that scheduling those was up to her and she had absolutely ??no idea? when a private lesson would become available. I got the hint that we weren??t really welcome there anymore. Three days later I requested a refund but I had to leave the message with Krista unfortunately and she said, ??Well it will take a week to find out if a refund is approved.? Approved? So naturally I have not had any response from Krista or the owner. It has been three weeks.

if Bob B. is swimming there 5 times per week and everyone is coughing the whole time, as he says they are, then their swim coach is not doing his job in protecting his swim team..

Yes, I agree with Bob B. When there are a lot of swimmers in the pool the chloramines in the air are terrible. The ventilation system is not adequate for swim team practices.

Not sure what the last reviewer is complaining about. The Aquatic Adventures facility is top notch and the staff is very friendly. Having a facility like this in the mid-west is great. I haven't seen a place like this outside of California or Florida. Great dive store and the pools are always clean and the air is just fine (again, not sure what is up with the other reviewer complaining about the air?!?!?!). Would recommend to anyone for swimming or to learn to dive.

Do not swim at aquatic adventures in hilliard ohio! They have the worst air you will ever breathe! I have to swim there 5 times every week with my swim team and there hasn't been 1 practice that the whole team didn't start coughing. Aquatic adventures has worse air than CHINA!

What a beautiful facility, with friendly and knowledgeable people who work there. The two pools are beautiful. The dive instructor we had teaches there (Art) and he was helpful, kind, understanding, knowledgeable and made sure we understood everything as we went along. The books, information, and clothing are great, too. What an incredible addition to Columbus, Ohio.

This place is a great place. They have a lap pool that goes from 3ft to 6ft and a diving tank with depths from 3ft to 6ft to 12ft where you can become a certified diver. They also have swimming lessons at great rates. Children can learn to swim there as early as 6 months and they also have adult lessons and they are pay per lesson Monday nights. They have a web site with more information called www.aquticadventuresohio.com. this site has plenty of use full information. BTW the staff is friendly as well and you will never have bad service.
