Really good burgers and nice beer selection. Friendly service, and usually good unless the place is really busy. $10 pitchers on mon and tues which is a pretty good deal since they serve high quality beer on draft. Most recently I had the Moose Drool beer and the Bad Breath Burger and left full and happy. Highly recommend this place on weekday evenings, that seems to be when its the least busy and the best, most interactive service.

Dissappointing
by rene p.
Starting with no greeter or host left us wandering for 2-3 minutes before we were offered a table. The vibe was quiet and somewhat morbid...None of the baby chairs had locking straps for safety, as for service and atmosphere it was more of a cheap bar vibe. The jalapeno poppers had a canned pickled taste with no cream cheese flavor, as for the burgers? After waiting 45 minutes for my burger just to have it returned because there was a strand of hair on the patty my appetite had been somewhat diminished so after finally tasting what is advertised as gourmet turned out to be just average tasting therefor very disappointing!

A great place to go or the extra special burger. You can add different items to mix in the hamburger before it is cooked. My favorite is the garlic and jalapeno burger. It hits the spot!

The burgers are big and I love the fact you get to decide the "extras" you want to put into the meat before it's cooked. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is relaxing.

Great food and service. A bit difficult to find or get to for some. BUT WORTH FINDING OR GETTING TO. Made to order burgers with the ingredients inserted right in to the meat rather then simply placed on top. Extras are quite good: fries, rings and assortment of other items. If your of age, nice selection of beers on tap. Make a trip to Bommerangs in Clairemont and you will definately return, just like a boomerang!

I have been to Boomerangs a couple times now and I would rate the food average as well as the service. I got a cheeseburger and fries and it was mediocre. The portions definitely match up with the prices. I had a bad experience there when a man was very rude because i wasn't really sure what i wanted and he snatched on me and it wasn't very curtious to do so.

Outstanding Burger
by sjstuckey
I am a burger fan and have frequented all the hot spots such as Peabody's, Hodad's, and Rocky's. They are all great burgers, but Boomerangs has them all beat. The quality of the meat was excellent, very flavorful and juicy and seasoned and seared like a prime steak. They offer a long list of mix-in ingredients (e.g., bacon, jalapenos, horseradish, garlic with many others), an excellent selection of cheeses, and a bounty of sauces. The garlic fries and chile-rubbed onion rings were excellent. They also have a nice selection of micro-brewed beers and happy hour specials. The price at approx. $10 for burger and fries, was reasonable based on the quality. Overall, this has become my #1 burger stop in San Diego.
Pros: Huge selection of fixin's and a top-notch burger

OK burgers
by sjinlj
I held my own burger contest a couple of years ago by visiting as many of the reigning burger joints as I could. Truly, Boomerangs would not quite hold up. While reviews conveyed the general friendly conviviality of the owners and food quality, the final product did not quite rank up there with Rocky's (my favorite), Waterfront (lacking atmosphere), or Hodad's.
My burger was without "mix-ins" so I could taste the beef. Bun was MUCH too large for the precooked 1/3 lb weight, which = lots of fat. Some is good for flavor, but when the bun is twice the size of the medium cooked (asked for med. rare) patty, then there is way too much. Kids' burgers much worse; smaller patty, same HUGE bun. Silly when they have sliders and could easily make the bun switch for a kid's patty. Extra sauce only showed on the bill, not on the plate. Garlic fries touted by server as "not too greasy" were definitely soaked. Decor was heavy on fluorescent lighting and a weird green color. Not warm or cozy at all. Boxing on every TV?
Meat quality was good; lettuce, tom, onion very fresh. LOTS of pickles, yay! Good
choice of sides, but a lot of oil in my choice of grilled veggies. Very friendly to kids and our service was good. Wine list (I know, what was I thinking) was better than Sammy's Pizza or Red Robin.
Bottom line: great that the burgers are cooked to order, but there are way too many extraneous calories lurking for little flavor benefit. Get another cable box so you can show basketball or some other sport at the same time.

Simply the best burgers in San Diego, bar none ...
by DaisyMaeMaus
My family and I take all of our visitors to Boomerangs Gourmet Burger Joint to "show off" the best burgers that San Diego has to offer.
We've been patronizing Boomerangs for about a year now after seeing a glowing review of their gourmet burgers in Family magazine. People expecting thin patties with pedestrian toppings and one-size-fits-all sides slapped down in front of them in less than five minutes need to visit the neighboring fast-food places: Boomerangs ISN'T fast food. Boomerangs is a restaurant specializing in "hand-cut" and "home-made" and "chef-quality." Boomerangs uses recipes, not posters with pictures of patties and pickles. I love that it takes a half hour for my burger to be mixed and cooked (Make mine medium-rare!). The sides are truly stellar like the macaroni and cheese, the twice-baked potatoes, and some amazingly delicious sweet potato fries (I have to guard my plate to keep the others at my table from pilfering them). Sauces are creative and novel; and suggestions of other combinations are met with enthusiasm from Bruce and Jose.
I'd love to see Boomerangs Gourmet Burger Joint catch on with a wider client base, but selfishly, I'm always thrilled that I can walk in at anytime and get a table. I have noticed that the added publicity through television interviews has filled the place in recent visits and I couldn't be happier. The added business has caused employees to be hired and has taken some of the pressure off the owners who tended to do everything by themselves making themselves rather harried. More clients is good for us!
When you visit, give the corn chowder (my dad's absolute favorite) or the home-made chili a try: They're both terrific. And if you're a vegetarian, there is a TREMENDOUS portobello mushroom "burger" that my dad orders every time. Boomerangs is a winner and worth checking out. There's a reason why their restaurant is called Boomerangs ... You'll be back ... And I'll be there, too!

GREAT BURGERS and well worth the wait!!!!
by PepsiGuy
I have been going to this place since the day they opened. I go for the cold beer (Moose Drool), GREAT Burgers, and friendly service. I have been to this place over 50 times and could not get enough. A fast food burger could be made in 3 minutes, a Boomerangs Burger is made in 15min. You get what you pay for and it is well worth the wait. If you are in a hurry to eat buy an appitizer and a cold beer. GREAT BURGER JOINT!!!!
Pros: Great Food & Cold BEER
Cons: NONE

Best Burger
by zaspacer
Went here with a buddy.
AMAZING BURGER
It's now my "best burger" place to take people when I play host.
You can cook it how you want without fear of ecoli. (they told me this, owner is very chatty)
Bun is from local bakery.
Menu is super customizable. If you want a specific burger you can make it. (dunno if they have chili)
You get 3 free "mix-ins" from a big list of stuff (bacon, onion, artichoke, etc.), and these are little bits they mix in the meat before cooking.
But the mix-ins are more of a subtle taste in my experience. If you want something like bacon then add it (at a cost) from toppings. (their bacon is very tasty)
Don't blame me if you think the mix-ins will be enough, and then find out you didn't even really notice em.
Sides are hitt-n-miss.
Service can be VERY slow. If you are on the clock it could spoil your experience so be aware.
Owner is a good guy who takes a personal interest in his guests and his passion for burgers. (I go infrequently but he recognizes me and always says hello)
Location is hard to find. (across from a strip mall, tucked in the back of a nondescript building complex)
Atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant (my brother liked the deco paintings) and includes a bar/tv area.
So with all I've said you may ask how can I give it 5 stars?
CAUSE IT'S THE B-E-S-T BURGER.
Remember "soup na2i" from Seinfeld? How even though it was traumatic, people still went cause the soup was just that good?
Well Boomerangs burger is THAT GOOD.
There is only 1 "best burger" and this is it, so you give it 5.
Be ready for a delay to your food, maybe an order mix up, and sides that may not do it for you.
Pay extra to make the burger you want.
And if you can stay cool after all that, you will be set to enjoy THE BEST BURGER IN SAN DIEGO.
Pros: BEST BURGER IN TOWN, freindly atmosphere
Cons: service can be slow, side are of varying tastiness, possible order mix up

Not impressed
by hebus
My wife and I saw the artical in San Diego Magazine and decided to try them tonight (4:30 pm) - Always looking for a good place to eat that is not "Corporate" in Clairemont. Was sorely disappointed - service was very slow - only a hand full of patrons there at the time - burger was ok - to be honest Fudruckers is far tastier. Cheese was so over cooked it appeared almost opaque and very thin - Garlic fries were soggy and not too much flavor - Sad to say that the Petco Park garlic fries beat them big time.
Burger was just average and not really worth the $10.00. Unlikely to go back - sorry.
Pros: Nice place inside
Cons: Food not cracked up to what it was hyped

My new "go to" restaurant
by scannon
This is my new "go to" place. the food was great, all freashly made and worth the wait. There are almost too many choices, they need to make a recommendation list on the menu. You can choose three mix ins iwth toppings, gourmet cheeses and sauces to die for it hard to get through the menu and make a choice (all good problems to have) Great place to bring kids. WIth the books, crayons and since we were the first ones there they even turned the disney channel on for us. I will be recommending this place to everyone. the service was awesome.
Pros: food, services, kid friendly, uniqueness
Cons: too many choices

Best burgers and sides I've ever had!
by Jennifer727
I was reluctant to check this place out b/c I was tired, didn't want to drive to Claremont just for a burger, and frankly, just sick of burgers. My friends said they had heard great things about this place so I finally said ok, and my husband, 5 year old daughter, and myself went with our friends. Up the stairs was a table covered with crayons, coloring books, and reading books (all clean, nice, new) to keep the kids busy. I couldn't believe how very friendly, and professional, our servers were. We never once had to ask for anything, they were very attentive.
I have never seen such an awesome menu for burgers! A half lb burger (I don't think they even have 1/4 pd...) is $8.99. This includes 3 items that you can choose from a lengthy list of "mix-ins", meaning you can have them mix into your burger patty before cooking it items like sun dried tomatoes, red onions, bacon, roasted red peppers, and the list goes on. Then you choose your cheese out of like 12 different cheeses. Then they have more different spreads to choose from like pesto, etc. I chose the chili pepper mayo which was awesome. Then you get your choice of sides: mashed potatoes that are like a baked potato w/all the fixings, steak fries, or homemade onion rings, homemade potato chips, etc. I had the onion rings and they were the best I've ever had. My friends ordered the cheese sticks and when the menu said " a wall of cheese" they really meant it. Those were the best, biggest cheesesticks I've ever had. The potato skins were to die for! Just amazing, yummy good food. Full bar.
They have a kids menu, and for $4.29 and $5.29 kids can get chs burger, mini corn dogs, chkn strips, and fries and a drink. Big portions for kids, too! Servers were sweet to the kids as well.
Different, the place a bit eclectic. Very enjoyable experience all around. Huge portions/servings. Extremely tasty food, best burgers we've ever had. Definitely GOURMET! We will DEFINITELY be back! Thank you Jose and staff!
Pros: Totally awesome food all around.
Cons: I live in OB and I wish it was closer instead of Claremont.

Great idea, poorly executed
by jmichna
I have been back to this neighborhood spot about 10 times. Each time hoping against hope that they will get their act together. Like one of the other reviews, I wanted so badly for this place to be great. We just don't have very many eateries in Clairemont. The last time I was there we waited over 45 minutes for over cooked burgers. Everytime I am there they ask me how I want my burger cooked and no matter what I say it comes to me WELL done - not the medium that I asked for. The service is poor even when the restaurant is slow. The owners are very nice and friendly, but, unfortunately, that was the last try. We won't be back.

Boomerangs...
This place is more than just a burger joint, it's a state of mind...and that's before you've sampled a few 22oz attitude adjusters. How anyone could eat here, drink here, and invest a measured amount of their life here ( solo or with family/friends ) and NOT have a transcendent experience is beyond me. I've been stopping by regularly since Bruce and Jose opened this restaurant and I've waited this long to comment as I needed to gather a large enough data set ( and I have come to this startling conclusion... )
Not every visit to Boomerangs is going to be identical; not the food ( which is uniformly outstanding, new ideas are tried often, try the specials ), not the service ( food arrival wait times can vary depending on the strain to the staff but dammit, these people really care ), not the decor ( holiday/sports/special event themes are fun, also ...think Bogie/Bacall in the film Key Largo, except with a few left over Chinese accents and a lot of well placed LCD/plasma T.V.'s ). Clearly ( the not being identical part ) is by design, and here's why...
Boomerangs NEVER will :
(1) serve up bland corporate food...or
(2) pour uninspired drink choices ( so many beers, so little time )...or
(3) force striped uniforms with insufficient "flair" on the staff.
What you CAN count on:
Diners here will have a great time and pocket another quality memory. Seriously, the build- your -own burger options (almost confounding ), menu selection ( my God, those SIDES ) and the ever changing cheesecake denouement ( by Jose ) are downright inspired. If your expectations are ever not met in some small way ( hey, it can happen anywhere ) on any visit then perhaps you also need a large enough data set to realize just what a treasure this place is in otherwise staid Clairemont. If you love this place as much as I do, then join me for additional research.
I, among many, will continue to come back for more.
Pros: Killer appetizers, beer/wine selection, T.V./sports setup, burgers, community outreach.
Cons: For some, a little hard to find...but worth it.

So many unique flavor combinations - you will ALWAYS find a new favorite!!!!
by mrscolonel
This is the BEST neighborhood burger joint in San Diego. It even beats ROCKY's of Crown Point!!!
This place has so many different flavor combinations for their burgers. You choose the add ins and they grill you up a little slice of tasty heaven! The add in ingredients are fresh and high quality and they have a range of sauces and toppings - I recommend the habanero ketchup!!!!
Also, I tried my first Pomegranate Margharita Martini - and I am now officially addicted.
The owners are relaxed and fun and they make you feel like the bar is as much yours as it is theirs.
Pros: The endless array of choices
Cons: The endless array of choices!! This place is NOT for the indecisive!!

I was refered by another local, I always saw the sign but never tried it.
The people there are cool, the burgers are amazing, and at a worthy price.
I haven't had a burger stuffed with bacon and roasted garlic.
Guess what?
I'm hooked.
Actually I'm going there in 30 mins for my lunch break.
Peace!

Pros: superb burgers, Value, service, happy hour every day

Finally found the best burger in San Diego!
by laurieclausen
Ok, here's the thing: I love hamburgers. Given a choice, I would probably eat hamburgers for each meal. I have lived in San Diego for only 2+ years, but have been searching for the best burger equally as long. I WAY prefer the char to the grill but even a good flat-grill can be wonderful. (I still long for the hamburger stand of my youth, Bill's Hot Spot in LA where the land was so valuable, the family sold the land and it's now a Starbucks. sigh.)
Boomerangs. WOW. Chared on the outside, cooked any way you like on the inside (rare for me!). As explained in other reviews, a person chooses the size burger, 3 ingredients from a large list which are mixed-in to the burger, another huge list of cheese and a side (try the Potato Chips! They are homemade, warm and delicious!). My goodness, what a treat!
Oh, and speaking of sides, the chips, the corn with cojita cheese, the onion rings and, shockingly, the grilled vegetables - all out of this world.
The quality of the food - especially the meat - makes a huge difference. I cannot tell you how many burgers are mediocre, or worse, because of poor meat quality/taste. Boomerangs is perfect; the beef has the best flavor, never has that old, icky smell or taste!
Are they sometimes challenged with speed and attentiveness? Yes, but nothing that has kept us from returning...again and again. The 2 owners wait tables, cook and seat patrons. So very nice and friendly, they remembered us on our second visit. That's really nice. They are a new business, learning, growing (the menu is expanding) and working on their challenges. What more could you ask?
I love this place. They have the best burgers in San Diego. We do not live close but I seriously jones for this place on a daily basis. Try Boomerangs - I truly believe the food will bring you, and your friends, back over and over again.
Pros: Wonderful atmosphere, best burgers in town
Cons: Takes a little longer but worth the wait - and - it's a really cool environment to hang!

We really wanted to like it
by nativegal
We live in the neighborhood and my family and I have eatern here twice. The owner is really nice and we wanted him to be successful. I'm a little shocked at the rave reviews on this site b/c in our experience, the service and the food were erradic at best, cold and tastless at worse. "Fresh" pesto was old, dark, and bland. Burgers were dry (sorry, but they were) and the boring bun was way too big for the meat. The home-made chili was cold tomato soup. I can't recommend anything we've tried. And we experienced loooong delays to receive cold food both times. We'll stick w/Red Robin.
Pros: friendly owner, coloring books/cards for kids
Cons: poor food and poor service

The first thing about this place that grabbed me was the decor...just too cool!! And I immediately bonded with the owners...they are a riot...and they make the dining experience relaxing and fun. A given: Their angus burgers are sooooo good. You can pick the ingredients to suit your own tastes. It's fun to experiment. Roasted garlic fries...yikes! They are worth the bad breath...let me tell you. Homemade potato chips. niiiiice. This is a place you can take anybody to...for any occasion..lunch, dinner or drinks...and everyone has a good time.
Pros: Ambience, fresh ingredients
Cons: Not the best location for visibility if you are driving by

A Good Idea That Needs Some Work
by qcy
My son and I went here for lunch on a nice Saturday. The only seating was upstairs, and had about 5 or 6 other tables occupied. The waiter came over and was moderately friendly. He explained how the menu worked by adding different ingredients to our burgers. We ordered beer, which was promptly served in large glasses and was pleasingly cold.
Then we waited, and waited, and waited some more. After reading other reviews I understand that the owners here make every burger to order, but no one bothered to tell us that it would take over 20+ minutes for our meal to arrive. Even cooked to order burgers should not take that long. Several other places custom make their burgers and take nowhere near that long. After taking our order, the waiter disappeared. When I wanted another beer, once again i had to wait, and wait, and wait some more.
There were several TV's playing around the room, all on different channels, and one with the sound loud enough to hear. My son and i were watching the one with the sound when another customer evidently complained, so the waiter turned off the sound altogether. This made the room not only very quiet, but a bit frustrating to be watching all of the TV's with no sound on any of them.
Our meal finally arrived. We each had a burger; mine with fries, and my son's with onion rings. My order was wrong, so it was replaced, but again I had to wait. My son's onion rings were stone cold. They were replaced after, yep, another wait. When another order arrived, they still were tepid, but obviously were pre-prepared, and were horrible. The buns on our burgers were also cold, and not all of the toppings were delivered, yet they were on the bill until I asked for them to be removed.
At this point, I could not recommend this place to anyone. It sounds like a good idea on paper, but it is just not being implimented. The wait for a pedestrian burger with cold buns, horrible onion rings is just simply not worth it., over $40.
Pros: Big cold beers
Cons: Bad service, cold food, mistakes in the orders, intolerable wait

BEST SERVICE AND HAMBURGERS EVER!!
by adreamy17
After watching thousands of episodes on gourmet hamburgers on the Food Network, my boyfriend and I decided to find a place that served gourmet hamburgers, of course without the gourmet snobbish servers or the highly expensive gourmet price... wishful thinking right? Well, as soon as we stepped into Boomerangs we saw a place that looked so artistically modern, colorful and creative, it felt as though we were stepping into an IKEA catalog but without the snuddy attitude. In fact, the host that attended us gave us the best service ever, enthusiastically giving us the option to sit upstair in booths or downstairs in chairs or even outside on the beautiful patio. We chose the stairs and sat on very comfy booths where we were surrounded by colorful walls and decorative off-the-wall paintings. We sat down and within minutes our waiter Jose came and explained how the menu works. This is where it gets good, customers have the option of choosing several ingrediants and meats to create a hamburger especially for them. However, the awesome thing is it is really gourmet tasting because everything is fresh and authentic. I ordered pineapple, bacon, and cajun spice with an order of onion rings. Let me tell say, I have not stopped thinking about the hamburgers or the onion rings because they were so delicious. Oh might I say that their spicy ketchup is also something to die for... yum! Lastly when we received the bill it was only around $20.00, so for two gourmet hamburgers, fries, onion rings, and grilled fruit, and a soda... and a wonderful time might I add, it was too good to be true. This is a definite place to take a date or even a family, my boyfriend even talked to the manager to see if he could get his football team in there... so this is thee place to go for great gourmet hamburgers without the snobbish waiters or the ridiculous gourmet prices.
Pros: EVERYTHING
Cons: NONE

No words -- just a big smile on my face
by prthdlfuller
Really, I can just say wow. On our first visit, my boyfriend and I walked in, wanting to try something new. We live close, and a burger sounded great, so we thought we'd try it. We walked in, and after one look at the menu, I was already calling buddies to join us. We ended up spending 4 hours there (hitting both happy hours), and closed the place down just having a few beers and chatting with the owners and other patrons. Last night was our first visit, and we are already going back for breakfast this morning. :) They don't have an official brunch yet, but one of the owners said he was going to be cooking early. We are looking forward to whatever he decides to make as well as the mango mimosas (made with fresh mango puree!) Yum. In sum... Food -- excellent, Service -- excellent, Atmosphere -- excellent. Staff and Owners -- very friendly and definitely make the experience even better!!!!!!

BEST Burger, BEST Atmosphere, BEST Service, BEST HANDS DOWN!!!
by christophurious
This place is awesome. I visited this place for the first time on the 4th of July with my fiancee and two good friends. We were seated promptly upstairs at a beautiful solid mahogany bar. We started off with one of my new favorite beers ... Moosedrool (this is the only place in SD that you can get it on tap currently). We had Teriyaki and spicy BBQ wings for starters. Delicious. We then got a chance to meet Bruce and Jose, the owners. They were great hosts, very conversational and funny. I ordered the 1/2 pounder with Fresh Garlic, Horseradish and Cilantro sauteed and then mixed into the burger (cooked to medium rare), with a side of homemade chili pepper crusted onion rings with Habanero Ketchup. The food is AMAZING, everything is fresh. FRESH. I know it sounds crazy, but everything is made FRESH. I can't wait until I'm hungry again, so i can go back. They have a great happy hour ... from 4 to 7 pm everyday of the week. They also have ANOTHER one from 10 pm until closing on Fridays and Saturdays. Crazy I know!!! They have outdoor patio seating, some of which is PET FRIENDLY. How cool is that? Honestly, it's refreshing that Bruce and Jose runa business the way they do. I've only been there once and I feel like I've made some new friends, we can't wait to see them and eat their food. I would recommend this place to any and everyone. OH YEAH ... did i mention the fresh STRAWBERRY AND PEACH CHEESECAKE for dessert. stop by often cause the desert is made fresh everyday ... which means it changes from day to day as well.
Pros: Food is uncompareable, Service is refreshingly fantastic, Huge Plasmas, PET FRIENDLY, Awseome Dessert
Cons: Honestly ... can't think of one!

Short and Sweet:
This place is awesome. If you go you have to try the appetizer sampler; it is all homemade and amazing. The burgers are like nothing I have ever seen. The ingredients are mixed in with the meat which gives each burger and unique delicious taste. The customer service is great and the manager is personable and welcoming.

Design your own Burger
by townsendme
I am a burger fiend ?.well, my friend took me out to eat at a place in Clairemont, yes, Clairemont called Boomerangs Gourmet Burger Joint. It was probably the best burger I have had in years. The place is co-owned by Jose and Bruce, whom I met. The service was great and the food better.
I had a horseradish and blue cheese crumble stuffed 1/3 lb burger with chili pepper onion rings with habanero ketchup?.yum!
It is a two story building with wonderful wall colors and nice artwork on the walls. They have an outdoor seating area and a nice fountain in the courtyard. You will like all the nice tasteful details. The bar is a good sizel with a huge mahogany counter, even the restrooms are done well. They have 8 beers on tap soon to add 4 more.
The service was delightful with every attention paid to the customers. It is not a fast food place so the wait for food was longer than Wendy?s but you won?t care. Next time I?ll not go at lunch but for dinner and order a beer and an appetizer.
Can you tell I liked it??
Pros: The food, the service
Cons: food takes a little long to prelare

Great burgers and more...
by emersond
I have been to Boomerangs several times with friends and family and have had a positive experience every time. Boomerangs serves gourmet Angus beef burgers cooked to order. Each burger (1/3 lb, 1/2 lb, 3/4 lb) comes with a choice of three items from the mixers list, one type of cheese, and a side dish. On my last visit, I had a 1/3-pound burger with fresh tomato, black olives, and bell pepper mixed into the meat. The burger was cooked exactly how I ordered it. For my side dish, I had onion rings which were nice and crisp. I am already thinking about how I want my next burger. Creating a burger from all the options is really quite fun. They also have a house burger, which I am looking forward to trying. The menu has many other items than burgers. Entrees include steaks, chicken entrees, salads, and menu items for vegetarians. I have tried three of the four salads on the menu which come with an option of ordering with steak, chicken, or shrimp. I am partial to the Chop Chop salad which I ordered with chicken. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty and went really well together. Boomerangs has a nice assortment of beers on tap and appetizers. I have ordered the appetizer sampler three different times which is a good way to try all the different appetizers on the menu. Be sure to try a shake or a piece of cheesecake. I had a tropical shake with my last lunch which was like a vanilla shake mixed with a tropical smoothy. This is probably the best shake I have ever had. I have had great service from the owners and the rest of the staff. Overall, Boomerangs is a comfortable and friendly place with a great menu and an interesting approach to burgers. I will certainly be going back. I have a few new burgers I want to try. This is not fast food or corporate wanna-be's, the owners really want to elevate the burger to an art form.
Pros: Quality of ingredients, cooked to order, great beer list, atmosphere, flat panel T.V.'s
Cons: No street frontage, but plenty of parking.

Fantastic Burgers!!!
by marshalloh
I've eaten here a few times. I recommend the upstairs bar for the ambience. The food is fantastic! Be willing to step out and experiment with your burger and you'll get some special treats. (I never would have thought of cooking tomatoes IN the burger, but it was great!
The atmosphere is friendly, the staff is helpful. Ask for our favorite server, Lucy! She will not disappoint you.
Food-Great!
Service-Great!
Atmosphere-Great
The only complaint I have....it's a little hard to get into if you don't know the lights, streets etc.. But that's the fault of the city, not Boomerang's and after you've been a few times, you figure out how to wiggle in.
Marshall
Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere
Cons: Access/Parking-but not their fault

Big let down
by surfpunksleep
We were told about this place, and were happy to dine there. The place had a nice and cool look to it; however the experience was less then great service was slow considering we were only one of two tables in the place. When we ordered the waiter wrote down the complete ordered and served are drinks timely. Yet we waited one hour for are foods, and received the wrong orders for both are dishes. First we noticed that are side dishes were on the wrong plate, and then the burgers were not what we ordered either. We let the waiter know of the mistakes, and his answer was that he was sorry yet did nothing to change or correct it after he told us it was his fault. He then returned and told us it was the kitchens fault and still did nothing to help the matter. We had to leave paying the whole bill and not eating it. Also the onion rings were not cooked all the way they tasted like batter. We are both not returning to this place EVER.
Pros: Cool look
Cons: The kitchen and service was bad

Beer and Burgers makes me Happy!!! Fun Place & Great Food! Hard to find the first time - but worth it!!!
by alanang
Boomerangs has the BEST Stuffed Burgers ever! In addition to the burgers, there is a great selection of Vegetarian and Seafood options in case someone in the group isn't in the mood for a burger. The side dishes of vegetables and potatoes we delicious, as well as the chocolate, banana, carmel, raspberry, graham cracker crust cheesecake!!! (a little skeptical if ALL of these ingredients would work together, but was pleasantly surprised - if you like cheesecake don't eat this, it will raise the bar to a level that CANNOT be matched)
Great to find an local Clairemont alternative to Outback and Chili's. I can't stand waiting an hour for a table only to receive crappy food and service. I don't mean to knock anyone, but if you aren't prepared for a plate to cost ten bucks at a sit-down restaurant or want instant gratification, stick to places with drive-thru windows (you get what you pay for in life). I don't mind waiting a bit for food as long as the servers can get a beer to me in short order, it's waiting for a table that stinks. Fast seating and service at Boomerangs, they have a great selection of beers and they serve pitchers too! Ample indoor and outdoor seating, off-street parking, and flatscreen tv's in the bar area! The main dining rooms are very classy and there's a room for private parties.
The place is a little tough to find, but they will gladly give directions and help if someone gets lost - like me. Just remeber that it is behind the Pearl Vision on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. and Clairemont Dr. I'm sure I'll see you guys there for baseball and football games in the upstairs bar. We'll definately be coming back for more...
Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Cold Beers (Pitchers!), Plenty of Tables & Ample Parking
Cons: Hard to find - Hidden behind Pearle Vision on the corner of Clairemont Mesa Blvd & Clairemont Dr.

Friendliest service ever! Exceptional menu, something different and new for our area!!
by pjpamalou
We had just returned from a trip from Antiguia and wanted to try something different. I found a coupon in the paper and thought, what the heck. When arriving I noticed lots of parking, an airy outside dining area with a fountain and obiviously a lover of frogs. Was greeted and seated immediately. The menu had so many selections and had a hard time deciding what to order. They offer a great happy hour at 2 different times of the day and on weekends. The food was hot, tasty and the service was excellent. The owners were there to greet us and make sure that nothing was left undone. He even surprised us with a special dessert. The burgers are made to order and the stuffings inside too much to even mention. The homemade chili is out of this world and the appetizers are spledid. The atmosphere in the restaurant is cheery, light and colorful. The widescreen t.v's are made to be seen in every direction when sitting in the bar. We have been back 3 times and have taken family with us whom have said they will return. A nice change from the everyday chain restaurants we have here in Clairemont. A refeshing crew and wonderul owners! We will be back.!

Save time Save money go to Jack in the Box across the street
by a619person
I was curious about this new burger place after my girlfriend got a coupon in the mail. I figured it was worth a try. My mistake not only did i have to go half way to mission bay because I missed the turn off from clairmont mesa blvd.
They havn't been open long and it shows apparently they hire anybody off the street to be servers. I ordered a hamburger and it took forever they server spent most of the time apologizing for the delay and when I got to my order it was wrong. I gues they need to brush up on the dufference between blue cheese and cheddar cheese, by the time I got my replacement burger the lettuce was wilted and beyond recognition.
My date had the salad which she shared with me while I waited, they dish out the salad dressing like it is worth it's weight in gold.
There was just too much apologizing and excuses maybe when they finish their staff training or maybe they should do some staff training.
Although my server was courteous and did seem to be sincere in her multiple apologies it was probably due to having practiced at it.
Maybe when they get serious it would be a place to go to, but for now it is just a joke, You are better off goint to the Jack in the box across the street.
Pros: Plenty of parking because who would go there twice
Cons: The food, the service

Just try it, you'll be surprised
by medigan
We got a coupon in the mail letting us know of their opening. We finally got around to making it there a week or 2 later. I guess they had only been open 1 month so far, so they're still in the middle of working all the kinks out. The staff was super friendly, and seemed to honestly think all the food there was worth suggesting. I went with a group of 5, and got there right around a 'huge rush' so to apologise for the delay, the manager brought out a large salad for the table to share...which went very quickly. Our orders got a bit mixed up, so to make up for that, the manager brought us out some cheesecakes. Even with the mistakes, the food was good and the staff definitely made us feel welcome; we'll be back soon.
