I moved to the area in August and have been needing to find a new stylist. Of course, like many people, I HATE trying out new stylists. But after one too many days of wearing my hair in a chignon/ponytail/bun, I finally decided to bite the bullet. After doing a search for salons in the neighborhood, I gave Extravaganza a try--and I was very pleased! Sharon was my stylist, and I loved him. He was friendly but not too chatty, and took his time with my hair. The vibe was hip but very fun and relaxed! I'll definitely be going back. Thanks, Sharon! PS Robbie, who washed my hair, was very nice. (I hope I got his name right!)

Normally I pay top dollar to get my hair done. I wandered into this salon to kill some time and figured I would just get a blow-out. They were running a special- $75 for color, highlights, and a gloss treatment. They were also running a 30% off for your first visit special on top of that! I figured this was going to be a big mistake, but as I desperately needed my hair colored, I figured I would go for it! Sharon was reassuring and sweet but most importantly, he did an amazing job!!!! My hair looked better than it usually does after the salon and it cost a fraction of the price. It was such a fantastic experience and I can't wait to go back again and again and again!!!

i just moved to the area and needed to find a new colorist so made an appointment at Extravaganza with Judith based on all the great reviews....and I wasn't disappointed. The salon is very hip ,cool but at the same time everyone is so friendly! Judith was amazing...such a great young lady and made my color look so beautiful that I ended up getting a cut too. This is a big deal because I have been going to the same stylist for 10 years so no one else has cut my hair in that time period, only different colorists. But I definitely felt the TRUST with Judith and walked out looking gorgeous and feeling so very pampered. Judith is my new go to look fabulous!

i was recommended to Extravaganza by few ppl so one day i decided to schedule an app to get my hair color and haircut. I was recommended to see Jennifer. I was very nervous when i sat in her chair because i was looking for a change but didn't know exactly what i wanted,she took her time with me . Omg when she finished working on my hair , i didn't recognize myself. Beautiful highlights and an amazing haircut! Thanks Jen for making me so beautiful! cant wait to see her again!

I came here for a much needed haircut. My hair was becoming long and blah. peter sat me down and asked me what I wanted. I say give me a "cute bob". He gave me a few options - sleek? layered? Well, I wanted to be able to flip my hair out if I wanted. I want a little bit of versatility but a cut that would be wash and ready-to-go. I'm so satisified with my haircut. You can clearly see the layering and the hair frames my face just right. Wow, this was the best $85 I've ever spent on a haircut. peter spent 1-1/2 hours cutting my hair. The delicate layers fall just right and the weight on my shoulders has been lifted. It seemed like he chopped off a lot of my hair in the back but the layers are not wispy. peter knows hair! I highly recommend him.

The salon is clean and well lite. I shall return when I need another cut.

Today I got the best haircut and color of my life! Tim is absolutely amazing. He spends the time to make sure you both agree what look you want and then he works his magic. He also is just about the nicest person in the world too.
The front desk people are wonderful also. As soon as you walk in their great smiles greet you and make you feel right at home.
I highly recommend ariel for a fabulous experience.

I'm writing this with tears in my eyes. I went to extravaganza to highlights, color, and cut my hair, and now im crying.
Ariel made my roots orange, the highlights are white and very far from my roots my hair is breaken off, my hair is a mess. my hair cut is all uneven, he made my hair frizzy. The most horrible experience ever. He did not listen to me and he wouldn't stop talking about himself and his co-workers.
I will never, never, never ever go there again.

I'm weird about my hair. I have an Irish father, a Black mother, and hair that no one has ever been able to figure out. Under inexperienced hands, it's either frizzy and puffy or limp and greasy. Enter Peter The Amazing. I had been cutting my own hair since I was 14 after experiencing disappointment over and over again (at both black AND white salons) but I got sick of just trimming the ends and having a shapeless 'do.

The first thing Peter did was sit me down and ASK ME WHAT I WANTED. Not only did he listen, he grabbed locks of my hair and held them up for me, eliciting whether such and such length was what I was describing. Then he cut my hair exactly like I had asked him to! Shocking.

I also can be sort of an awkward person (haha - can't we all) and there had been times in the past when I was searching around in my brain for things to talk about with the stylist. This was not the case with Peter. Easygoing, personable, friendly, professional. LOVE HIM! Go to this salon!

This place is wonderful in general, but I must say without a doubt that peter is truly the star stylist. he has been cutting my hair for three years and I will go nowhere else (once I tried getting by without him, to scary and upsetting results...). Not only does he give a killer trim, he's a wonderful person, always so positive and bubbly that you can't help but leave feeling totally empowered and fabulous. I send everyone I talk to who is in the market for a new hairdresser to him. TRUST ME, stick with peter, you won't be disappointed.

I recently went to Peter for hair extensions. I have had extensions in the past so know what to expect by way of pain and adjustment to the extensions. When I left the salon with the professional blow out, they looked really nice. Once I washed and blow dried my hair on my own, the extensions were incredibly noticeable. I have curly dark brown hair - the extensions that were added to my hair were straight and black. In the slightest bit of humidity, my natural hair would curl up, while the extensions would remain completely straight. I could not put my hair back - because they were several extensions that were visible on the sides of my head making me very self conscious. I honestly could have lived and dealt with all of this but after about a week of wearing the extensions, my head started itching uncontrollably, my scalp became extremely irritated, and they started to rip out my natural hair. When I went to the salon to discuss these issues, Peter told me that this was normal for hair to be ripped out and that he could put a solution in my hair for the itching. As I've said before, I've had hair extensions several times in the past, and this type of pain and discomfort are never normal. He also said that he could dye the hair to match my natural color - I have plain dark brown hair that has never been dyed. Why would i want to start this process now when he could have just ordered the correct color from the beginning?
I went to another salon (one that specializes in extensions) for a second opinion and was told that the extensions were not at all properly put in my hair. This salon removed my extensions and put in a new set...I have had zero itching and not the slightest bit of discomfort. This experience cost me $700 and want to alert others before they make this same mistake at this salon!!!

Extravaganza Hair Designs is a great hair salon. They are so friendly, professional, and helpful. Peter, the owner, is such a nice guy. The place is also very clean and nice. I would recommend to anyone needing a hair salon in the upper east side.

i would definitely recommend extravaganza salon! i recently moved from a small town to the upper east side in nyc and was struggling to find a great salon when i came across extravaganza. i made an apppointment with rosie to get a cut and color and am so happy i got to have her as my stylist. she was so nice, friendly and professional. she had a lenghty conversation with me about what i wanted before she started which made me feel really comfortable. i walked out that day feeling like a supermodel and immediately started recommending rosie to my friends.

a few days after getting my hair done, however, i realized that my color was a little more red than i had originally wanted. i made a call to the salon and they told me to come in and said they would fix the color. when i went back rosie was just as nice and professional as the first time, and fixed my color to exactly what i was looking for. in addition, she didnt charge me anything to fix the color which i appreciated so much! needless to say, i am still a customer of rosie's and would send any of my friends to her!

After reading the reviews of this salon, thought I'd try it out, especially after reading how friendly the staff was and of the trendy haircuts. Well I experienced neither. First of all, my stylist Michelle was nearly an hour late...and the owner asked me to have a seat outside on the bench....which I found odd as there were seats inside the salon. Finally i was asked to come in...how nice. The owner then told the shampoo girl to start washing my hair while waiting for Michelle and to give me some deep conditioning shea butter conditioner. Well i have to say he doesn't know what 'deep' conditioning is as she left it on for seconds and in the end my hair was dry and lifeless.

Anyway, my haircut was horrible and certainly not worth the trip to Manhattan. Further, as my stylist was Dominican, I got the typical Dominican mushroom hairstyle and hair was dry and just plain boring. I got the impression ethnic hair was not one of their strong points...so beware. Never again am i going to this salon!

My girlfriend of Italian decent told me that she wants me to cut my hair if I plan on meeting her parents. I plan to ask her father for her hand in marriage and hope to impress him in anyway I can. My girlfriend trusts Ruben and convinced me to dump my old barbershop. She sat me down with Ruben and he snipped through my hair quickly and thoroughly. He gave me a clean cut that can easily be spiked neatly and professionally for any occasion. Please wish me luck!

I went to Extravaganza on a recommendation, and was glad I did. Ruben did an amazing job(base&high lights) coloring & cutting. My hair looks healthier and thicker - I got many compliments on it already. Prices are also very reasonable for NYC. I will definitely be returning to this salon. Thank you Ruben!!!

My friend recommended to see Ruben at Extravaganza to get my hair cut in top fashion look done. I was pretty happy with my shape but was open to ideas on what would look best on my face. The hair cut he gave me looked the exact same as my friends! Another friend went there, too, and got the same hair cut with diffrent look. Ruben is the greatest professioanl with magic hands. He is the BEST!!! I will go there again.

Moving from a small town to a big city like New York City can be intimidating. One of the hardest things was leaving the hair salon that has cut my families hair for twenty-five years! However after serving me a cup of wine, the staff at Extravaganza made it that much easier. Extravaganza Hair Design is clean, affordable, and professional. Most of all ? Experienced.

At first I was uncertain about the idea of Opti-smooth Straightening. However, after being told about the styling at Extravaganza, I decided to take a look. In three words: Clean, Experienced, and Friendly. A friendly assistant sat me down with Michelle. Michelle and I automatically clicked, and I don?t remember a time that my hair?s looked better!

I told them the situation I was in and left the end result to the stylist (Rubin) - he did a great job and I will definitely be going again.

4 Stars for now but potentially 5 star depending on my next visit.

I found out about Extravaganza on Citysearch and have been going ever since. I know that when Judith cuts my hair I will be happy and leave with a look that looks great on me. She actually makes the effort to discuss what you want your hair to look like and what she thinks will look good on you. When I went to school 5 hours away I would wait until I went back home to long island to travel into the city just so JUDITH would cut my hair. She is so enthusiastic and focused, you won't regret going to her!

i was referred to judith by a friend and am so happy! i have gone a few times for cut and color and am so happy with the results! not only do i love them but i always get so many compliments! as well, the salon has a fun, casual enviroment and the prices are are so reasonable. in the past, have spent a lot of money at other salons and am now convinced it was a waste! i will be going back to extravaganza!!!

I originally wrote a review that wasn't totally positive because I was unhappy with the layers that Peter gave me. Since I wrote that review, friends & family have been raving about my cut & color. I guess I don't know what's best for me! One friend actually hinted that my hair was stuck in the 80's way into the 2000's!! Funny. So, I take back my average review & hope Peter will take me back after my complaining review. Great cut & color!

After over a year of visiting the first time, I decide to give it a try again. It was great the first time but I was not 100% convince. I went back and switch to Peter, and I got exactly what I want! He listened to my thought and delivered! The haircut is simple and what I want! I am officially switching to this place!

i was looking for there phone number from city search, and decided to write something .
my first time at this place was 4 month ago, and my stylist was Shifra , she made my hair look smooth shiny & it felt very soft after doing the Brazilian treatment on my hair. my hair was straight with no frizz for 4 months .
i can push another month , but im ready to have her do my hi-lite & then to straight my hair again.
she knows style, and she listen , Im very happy i found her !!!

I don't think Lauren knows how to do more than just the one brow which looked good on my one friend but was not the best for me. I would try this place if those eyebrows happen to look good on you. She also didn't talk very much when she was working on me and seemed a little full of herself. I can get that kind of service at a nail salon.

Judith has been hair stylist for over 8 years and always does a fantastic job of cutting and coloring my hair. I would highly recommend anyone who goes to this salon ask for Judith - she'll give you the cut and color that suits you...not just something that may be in style at the moment.

Versace has been cutting my hair at Dramatics on 2nd Ave for years. Now he's moved a block down the avenue to Extravaganza. Different salon, but same Versace and same great haircut. I'm glad he didn't go too far!!

I went to Extravaganza to dye my hair from blonde to brown. Michelle, my stylist, did an amazing job! I was very nervous about the change, but it turned out great! I was very very happy with the result and will definitely be going back. The atmosphere was also very friendly, and whole experience was positive. Take advantage of their citysearch discounts too!

I had been looking all over this town for a great stylist. Michelle is awesome! I told her the color I wanted, and within minutes she had it going. The color is beautiful! I am extremely happy with the cut as well. The salon itself is very clean and everyone seems super-friendly. They offer beverages as well. It was easy to make an appointment and get one that same week. To top it off, their prices are even more fabulous compared to the many other salons I've been. I will definitely be a "regular" at this salon, and won't be going anywhere else. Give them a try, and you won't regret! Don't forget to check out their Fall special!

=] so i went in fully expecting to meet this god everyone's raving over. unfortunately, i thought, i ended up with a cute stylist by the name of versace. after debating color, he conceded that i'd get some brightness and i conceded to a brown shade with red overtones. i have never before in my life had brown hair that wasn't grown back out after a dye job...my natural color. i've gotten tons of compliments on the color and in fact was envied when i returned to the salon earlier for a touch-up.

i used to go to robert stuart. it costs more but my regular stylist hated me and made no bones about it; i am rarely ever satisfied with the original cuts. i've been to the beehive (not so hot) and shampoo avenue B (arrogant junior stylist...wearing sunglasses. how the heck does anyone style hair they can't see?) for my first fauxhawk. i currently employ a stylist who makes house calls but while her cuts are spot on, her coloring skills leave much to be desired (she gave me peach hair!). for $10 more i can get a great cut at extravaganza and get professional-grade colorants with a glaze.

the staff are remarkably friendly (my old stylist used to roll her eyes and groan when she saw me, she so despised my precision), the salon cozy and my shirt as yet unstained. eye candy that's good with hair scissors--always a good deal.

so versace had answered the phone when i'd called and assured me that he was familiar with the relay and wasn't at all weird. this city is full of real characters...but slim on real character. anyone looking for a deaf-friendly salon should check them out. beehive has one signing receptionist but these guys are communicative.

Walking into extravaganza made my regular day turn into a special day. Jacob is an amazning hair stylist who care about your hair. Most hair stylist dont let you speak and do what they think is right, yet jacob is different he let me explain exactly what i want and i got it. He gave me the most stylish hair cut with high lights that came out to a very beautiful natural look. After my process was finished i was so pleased, happy and finally had gotten exactly what i wanted. Not only are the the hair stylist exremtly talented with hair,but also are extremely friendly with so much warmth. The service in extravaganza is amazing as well.
Hot tea, coffe, water is even on the menu. Im very happy i found extravaganza hair design. It changed my look for the better andd it can change yours too

after walking by the salon every day after work for allmost two years that they open, I see them very busy so I figured they good. so I decided to try them with my color. Michell gave me the color I allways wanted my hair was shiny soft and bauncy after she styled it ,she is very good and sweet . the stuff is very nice and freindly that was the first time that Im in hair salon feeling comfrtable ,they didnt try to push me to by products, or any other service.the manager Peter is so nice he even gave free tanning & 15% off at saada butiq .Im finaly happy with my hair after trying so many salons in the neighbrhood ,extravaganza salon is my new place!

Lauren Dorino is the most talented aesthetician. She has been doing my eyebrows for over a year and I am always highly satisfied with the result. Great price. Great product. Convinient location. Overall fantastic expirience.

If your looking for an excellent and affordable place to do your eyebrows Lauren at Extravaganza is definitely the person to go to. Since my eyebrows are hard to maintain I have tried many places, and I was never this satisfied with my results! Lauren shapes my eyebrows perfectly, and leaves them looking perfectly natural. Lauren will accomodate your need for tweezing, or waxing (and she always offers to cover up your red skin afterwards!). Not only does she do an amazing job on your eyebrows, but she's really sweet too! I have recommended Lauren to many of my friends and family already, and highly recommend her to anyone looking as well!

Peter did an amazing job with just a single process. The color, though very different from my own, suits me perfectly. He also cut and showed me a wash and wear style with minimal product. My hair looks healthier and thicker - I got many compliments on it already. I really liked being able to have a consultation before - it made me feel at ease. Prices are also very reasonable for NYC. This was my first trip to Extravaganza Hair Designs and I was a little nervous. My last haircut and color (at a different salon) had been HORRIBLE and I was nervous to trust anyone. I came in to get a single process color and cut. Turns out- there was absolutely no reason for me to be nervous! Rosie made me feel at ease right away. I have a very specific red that no other colorist has ever seemed to be able to get, but Rosie knew right away what I was describing. My hair color turned out STUNNING. So beautiful. And my cut was really great as well! I told her that I knew I had damage to cut off, but that I was trying to keep length. I was afraid she'd tell me I had to cut more than an inch off, but she listened and understood, and gave me some ideas on how to help my hair to get healthier in the mean time.

Rosie was helpful, a good listener, and styled my hair beautifully afterwards, since I told her I was going out to a special dinner that evening.

Highly recommend this salon- and Rosie! :)

I recently moved to New York and wanted to change my hair color from a medium brunette to RED! I had no idea where to go, so I let the reviews on CitySearch guide my way ... and they lead me to straight to Peter.

The place was well-organized and I only had to wait a few minutes. Peter consulted with me about my hair and he listened to what I wanted and told me his honest opinion that maybe red would be too much and he made a few other suggestions. But I told him I had my made my mind up and wanted a deep red. He said "great" and went to work. My hair turned out a gorgeous deep red with some flecks of a brighter red to frame my face - just what I wanted. I was very pleased with the results and it gave me the fresh start I was looking for in this city. Not to mention, the conversation and fun and well worth my time there.

I will definitely be back to play around with different colors - and I will only go to Peter.

This is my first time EVER writing a review for ANYTHING but I had to do it because what Peter did with my hair was amazing!! I have always had very long hair and everytime I got the smallest amount taken off the stylist finds a way to screw it up! Peter chopped off ALOT of my hair but I was soooo happy with it and I have been getting compliments from everyone I know. I even had a random woman on the train tell me how much she liked the way my hair "lay". The atmosphere was also very welcoming and the music...(he played some turkish music for moi, the turkish girl) was the iceing on the cake!

Definitely found my stylist in Peter! He has a devoted client here...

I've been to Extravaganza only three or so times, but each time it's a great experience - last time they even let me bring my small dog! They're very accommodating, warm, and friendly. After seeing all the reviews for Judith, I figured I'd give her a shot. She's excellent - she listens to you and gives you exactly what you want. She doesn't do what most stylists do when they think they know better; if you want it light in front, tell her and she'll do it (while making sure it looks natural and beautiful). Her funky style and warm personality also add to the whole experience. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that they charge $30 to blow-dry, even after spending $150 on highlights, and I think that's a bit excessive.

I love getting my hair cut and blow dried here..just because it's such a great time. Peter and Ruben are my loves and always do their best to make me look good!! :) They also provide a great laugh and everyone is so friendly. And Judith is also amazing even though I've never had her cut my hair..everyone is just amazingly friendly and they do an excellent job without charging ridiculous prices!

Judith has cut my hair for years ( I've followed her from different salons) and I continue to see her because she could give me a great cut with her eyes closed, no matter what I ask for, or if I even know what I want. I can wait longer between cuts because they always grow out incredibly. Furthermore, I love her positive attitude and high energy!

This is an excellent hair salon! I highly recommend it for both cut and color- they also offer hair straightening. I have been doing highlights for years (including at the most expensive places in the city) and found that this place does them best. The quality and service is outstanding, but will not break your budget. There is a warnth like no other at this salon. The staff is so kind and most importantly extremely knowledgeable and patient....they will make sure you are happy. Peter, the owner, will make you feel at home and is an amazying stylist!!!

I had the best experience here. I walked in on a monday am and requested my hair color to be fixed. I have had many bad coloring jobs in this city. My current state of coloring was in need of help.........natural brunette with my roots growing out, with a bad bleach blonde color on the rest of my hair. JUDITH was just AMAZING. She returned me back to my natural brown, then put in just the right amount of highlights to make my hair look like a natural dirty-blonde color. The FIRST time I have actually liked my color in years! She also LISTENS! My hair grows slowly and I did not want all my length cut off. She listened to me and only cut what was needed to make sure my hair stayed healthy, and she showed me the amount she was going to cut prior to doing so. I hate when stylists just cut to the length they want.
The salon itself is very clean. I did meet the owner whom greeted me when I walked in, very nice. I liked that I did not need an appointment, I hate being tied in. I just can't think of any negatives. citysearch has a 15% off coupon which worked great. I think if you really are looking for some skilled people who now how to style, color, and fix color problems............you HAVE FOUND THE SPOT! Thanks again to JUDITH!

After living in Manhattan for over three years, and trying every single top-name salon (Oscar Blandi, Fekkai, etc), I must say that I've wasted a lot of time and money before coming to Peter. I cannot say enough about this man- he is a brilliant colorist (made my hair a gorgeous champagne blonde, which is not easy), and he has given me an amazing cut that has won me compliments on the street. I am so particular about my hair, I never felt a true sense of trust with any stylist, but Peter has won me over. And to top it off, his prices are incredible and he is the warmest, most attentive salon owner I have ever come by! I am NEVER going anywhere else!! Peter is a hair genius!
