The finest Mediterranean food on the Upper West Side

"There's no lack of Turks on the Upper West, but the newest is the most interesting. And it's not the ho-hum entrees that excite me, but the appetizers, which are mainly vegetarian and can easily stand alone as a full meal. Zeytin occupies a sunny corner location on Columbus, with French doors thrown open in fine weather, and a decent selection of wines and beers. In order of descending interest, my favorite dishes are; muever (dilled zucchini pancakes), enginar (wonderful oily artichoke salad), kalamar tava (the usual fried calamari, only served with an unusual Circassian walnut sauce), and izgara bildircin sarma (quail wrapped in grape leaves and grilled)."-The Village Voice, "Best of NYC" special issue "Best Trendy Turk"

Horrible Service - Stay Away 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

We've been fans of Zeytin since it opened, however something has changed (maybe the management?) over the past few months and the service is now horrendous. On two separate occassions, it took an hour and 15 minutes to get a take-out order delivered (we live one block away). Both times, when we called to inquire about our order, the receptionist was extremely rude. He did not apologize, told us we must have bad luck and refused to let us speak to a manager. When our order finally arrived, they brought us the wrong food. We understand mistakes happen, but the complete lack of customer service and the horrible attitude of the staff (on more than one occasion) has made us take this old neighborhod fave off our list. Incidentally, the prices have increased damatically and the food is no longer worth the cost.

Cons: Service is awful and food quality has gone down significantly

Nice outdoorsy spot on UWS 4 Star Rating - Very good

The food was good, the prices were right, the olive oil was tasty and the bread was nice and toasty.

Pros: Toasted bread and tasty olive oil
Cons: doesn't really have a Mediterranean feel
