Alchemy is a great spot. The food is consistently delicious.
As cozy as the warm glow is on an autumn afternoon, or a cold winter evening, do not miss the outdoor patio in the summer. It's off the street and in the back. Very peaceful and serene back there.

I would recommend this to anyone, it's a multi purpose location. Everything from a casual brunch with old friends to a nice spot to meet up with a blind date.

Warm & friendly.
Put it on your list.

Alchemy is great for brunch--haven't tried it for anything else. Good choices--lots of eggs, but also non-egg dishes. Bloody Mary's are good, too.
There's a garden out back, which is nice in the summer - but be sure to get a spot in the shade on a hot day or it can be unbearably hot.
Inside is cozy. Good for groups from two to eight.

At first, this cramped little place seemed to invite with its charmingly rustic decor. Shame all that had to be ruined by the cattiness of the wait staff.

When my girl and I walked in around 1pm, we noticed that two tables were on their ways to be opening up and even a moron knows that it's a lot more intimate for a couple to be sitting together at a booth or a table than to be elbow to elbow at a bar. With that in mind, and being as hungry as we were, we asked for the option of ordering our food as if we were at a table but we'd agree to eat at the bar if no tables cleared out for us by the time the food came.

This idea was considered APPALLING by the hostess and the bartender, yet they didn't actually say so to us. No, they gave us curt smiles at first and then proceeded off to the side to complain to each other about how...APPALLING we were? I thought the deal was fair.

Now, I understand that if you order at the bar, the bartender wants you to eat at the bar and therefore TIP the bar. Understood. Same with the tables. But this was way before they would have to actually do any work, and hence just wanted their respective UNEARNED money. You should have seen their catty little faces all scrunched up as they crabbed to each other about us and our audacious antics! As I said, I thought our deal was fair but even if we were jerks, you don't act like spoiled little (insert female canines word here) in the face of losing potential customers.

This place isn't hurting for customers with all the strangely positive reviews but with people working there like the lightskinned girl with the fuzzy hair playing bad hostess and the short-haired dirty blond with the way-too-dark-and-catepillar-thick eyebrows working there, we're talking about one bad investment.

But if that's your thing, party on. We just walked out - to their mutual glee - and vowed never to return, with equal glee. Good riddance to bad pieces of trash.

Pros: Good thing they showed their colors before we got comfy.

Cons: TERRIBLE, heart-wrenchingly bad service from catty staff!!!

Haven't been here for dinner, but the brunch menu is terrific and the best Bloody mary I've had in the neighborhood. The waitstaff were really sweet. Love the corned beef hash and the choriso plates.

So my co-workers and I have been here plenty of times for happy hour and the two-for-one well drink special is well worth it. However, we've taken to only ordering drinks as the food, though delicious (seriously the chicken caesar salad is wonderful) is quite overpriced in our opinions. We like the proximity and overall feel the place and normally we've had great waitresses. I don't know if they were just short-staffed this last time but I personally felt that our waiter was walking the line between sarcastic/funny and just plain rude. Other times our waiter has never had a problem keeping water on our table but this last time we had to go to the bar to ask for it ourselves. One more thing, I had the grilled chicken sandwich and it's just fantastic. Don't be afraid to ask for extra horseradish mayo - it's delicious!

This place is actually prett cool. It has moderately priced drinks and has some good food. I would definitely say its worth giving it a shot. Be careful sometimes it gets very crowded.

Came across all these postings and thought I'd put my two sense in as well.

I too was a very frequent diner at Alchemy last summer. The brunch was one of the best around and dinner was always out of this world. The service was horrible but the food made up for it.

I'd hadn't been back since late summer and recently my partner and I went for dinner. I was astounded at how much the food had changed since my last meal there - even the menu was different. There was also a foul odor present throughout the place. I'm not sure what has happened but its a shame to see such a great place go down so quickly. I know I will not be back.

Oh and the service is still horrible as well. Save your money and eat at home.

This past summer i was hooked on their tasty brunch special such as the Sweet Guiness Pancakes and the Chorizo Eggs with Jalapeno grits. According to the menu the Guiness Pancakes are served with caramelized bananas, pecans, and "fresh fruit." I'm sure when you think of fresh fruit w/ pancakes you typically think of strawberries or blueberries, or some sort of berry. From summer through late fall my wife and I ordered the pancakes and other tasty menu items every other weekend. We decided to take a break for the holiday so we would spoil our new favorite neighborhood pub grub spot.

In late December we decided to pay a visit to find SLICES OF WHOLE GRAPES on the Guiness Pancakes! The Jalapeno Grits were overcooked and the Chorizo Eggs somehow lacked any distinct flavors. A few weeks later we ordered their signature Alchemy Burger cooked medium rare despite requesting Well-Done.

I created a citysearch account just to write in and recommend this place after my husband told me there were some bad reviews. My husband and I go here all the time, and are consistently impressed. I love the booths, the complimentary fried chick peas at dinner and mini muffins at brunch, and I love the food. My husband goes for the burger or fish and chips. I like their burger too - also the special soups, the mushroom salad, the chicken and the egg scramble (at brunch). It's the kind of place you can go and sit for a long time. And when we do, we're never rushed out. Check out there backyard when it gets warmer. It's a great spot!

From the unassuming decor, I was inclined to order a burger and fries, but I took a chance along with my friend with some skate and risotto. Everything was very surprisingly delicious. And we loved the atmosphere, making friends with the people sitting next to us. It's a really affordable Park Slope jem.

I am always dubious leaving Manhattan - yes I am a Manhattan snob despite not being any kind of a food expert - but I was really impressed with Achemy. My party shared appetizers and all were delicious. My buddy had the salmon, which was tasty and perfectly cooked. I had a hanger steak which was a delicious and right to the temperature I ordered. They have a nice selection of beers on tap and we had a very good bottle of red the waitress suggested. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere inviting and relaxing. At the end of our dinner I found myself saying "I have to get out Manhattan more often"! I definitely highly recommend Alchemy.

Visited Alchemy again - first time back since I had dinner and brunch there in July. What has happened? The menu is horriflying. The risotto was like rice pilaf, the food was cold, the service terrible. The specials??? As I can see by some of the discussions on here something has changed recently. I will defintily not be back ever again.

Ate there last weekend. The food was terrible and the service lousy; the food was bland and not cooked properly - we had the calamari appetizer for example - it was chewy with no flavor. The specials looked like an amateur chef made them up. Alchemy should be ashamed! I felt like I was on death row as one of the floor managers ( perhaps owner?) stared my table down from the moment we sat down to the moment we left. I heard many customers complaining as well. I had eaten at Alchemy before they lost their chef and the food really fantastic before - the pork belly was some of the best I ever had. Not sure what the hell is going on over there now but I will not be back for sure and if I were you I would avoid it like the plague. There are plenty of great places to eat in Park Slope and Alchemy is no longer one of them.

It's great to finally have somewhere local to get a delicious burger and brew (the only caveat are the limp fries--surely this can be rectified). Many of the salads and appetizers are standouts as well, as are the risottos. The service is, 99% of the time, sweet and attentive. Pretty outside garden and beautiful interior make for a very pleasant "get-away" dining experience.

I really think that mostly of the people that wrote the previous review must be somehow too drunk or too involved in the same alchemy business cause this place is nothing more of a box lookin pub that basically has no clue of any sort of food comin out with obscene specials and disgraceful menu. The pasta overcooked and the decor were the highs of bad taste!
Been there because they drag me for what it was supposed to be a party and ended like the worst dining experience of my life!!!
I don't really know Park Slope very well but I know that in terms of Pubs and Dining this could not possibly be the best!!!

Was curious to check out one of the newer places in Park Slope. Very comfortable setting and the everything moved along nicely with drinks and food arriving promptly. The bartender was extremely friendly as was our server when we moved to a table. The only thing that keeps me from making this a weekly stop is the location on 5th. It just always seems a little too far for us. That aside, excellent overall.

But I must in this instance. The food was absolutely terrible. I spent $100 bucks on some of the worst food I've ever had. If it wasn't overpriced it wouldn't have been a big deal, but it was way to expensive for the quality. The risotto was like soup, the calamari was like rubber tires, and the burger and fries were both lousy. Even the great atmosphere and good service couldn't make up for the lousy food.

This is a great addition to the neighborhood - a perfect compromise for my boyfriend (who loves burgers and pub food) and me (I love creative, innovative food). The real standout for us was the special appetizer: scallop carpaccio. Thinly-pounded raw scallops with grapefruit sorbet and some special olive oil. Sounds like it might not work, but it completely did. The burger and skate fish & chips were also quite good. The atmosphere is fun and service was friendly and prompt. We'll definitely be going back!

We love this place! I almost don't want to write about it because we don't want it to get so packed that we can't get a seat anymore. GO FOR THE BRUNCH, STAY FOR THE BEST BREAKFAST OF YOUR LIFE! The Guiness pancakes are genius, and the fried bangers dipped in powered sugar and syrup are sinful. Wash it down with a Pom-Mimosa or Bloody Mary and it is well worth the calories. This is love at first bite! Just please save us seats there! And by the way, the service is quick, expedient, friendly, and well-versed. Perfectly moderate prices and huge portions. Thank you, Alchemy!

Just tried this place out and was very impressed. I had a ravioli dish on special and my friend had the burger; both were completely delicious. Bonus: they serve dinner until 11 p.m., which is rare around here, especially on a Sunday. We walked in at 10:45 and they had no problems with it. The prices are slightly high for the struggling freelancer set (burger $12; other dishes $15 and up), but the quality of the food makes spending a little more well worth it. Atmosphere is cozy and appropriately tavern-like; service was friendly and on the ball. I'm looking forward to going back.

Great dirty vodka martinis and good wines available by the glass. The service was friendly if a little slow. Good American food.

A real treat! Already familiar with the area, and have been to many of the area restaurants, I must say this is a lovely addition to 5th Ave! Not a large place. Make reservations! Pretty crowded, but it honestly adds to the feeling of the place... cozy, warm and alive. But your conversations aren't drowned out at all. The hard wood and rustic interior, along with low lighting sets a very romantic mood in the evenings, so take your sweetie! Service was GREAT. Despite the crowd, our waitress didn't miss a beat and was very professional. The food was very good, my friends couldn't get enough of the complimentary crisy chickpeas. We had the prix-fixed menu for restaurant week. Elegant and tasty would be how I would describe every dish in the 3 courses we enjoyed. Please don't skip dessert-- I'm still dreaming of another round of the panna cotta and sticky pudding! Enjoy!

Though the term "gastropub" is much disputed among foodies, most would agree this Park Slope contender gets the look right. Formerly a hardware store, the inviting space matches the laid-back elan of the yuppie/hipsters…
