I was actually looking forward to coming here. The space itself is really nice and open. The staff on the other hand were less than cordial, and would actually compel me to bypass this place in favor of the many other lounges in the area.

Furthermore, the owners of Boucarou apparently feel that false advertising is an acceptable business practice to bring in customers. On their website and on flyers that they hand out, they clearly promote "a complimentary open bar (FREE) from 9pm to 10pm" every Wednesday... which is a lie.

My friend and I went to check this out last Wednesday, and we were immediately told that the free open bar was conveniently not happening that night. However, we were informed that we could pay $25 for their bar special instead. A very shady case of bait 'n switch.

Both the bartender and the hostess were incredibly condescending making it seem like I was the one who made a mistake and read the wrong promotion. This was even the case after I politely pointed out a flyer that they visibly had in the bar.

I still don't understand why a place that was practically empty at 9pm would be so deceitful and rude to customers who simply want to enjoy a nice evening in the East Village.

Oh... I should also point out that the only form of air conditioning that they had when we were there was a large fan over the bar. The place was boiling hot.

Boucarou definitely failed my expectation. I wouldn't believe any promises or promotions they make after this experience.

I went there couple of times and I will def go again. My friend had a B-day party over there. Was really nice, food was great, we got a glass of champane and dessert on the house.than we stayed for the late night. There was a little disorganization as we moved to a different table after finishing our dinner but everything worked out. We had a grat time. The crowd was cool and the stuff was friendly. And I must say the girls working there are hot! Models I guess. from door girl to manager, seriously.

Super fun! I went with my girlfriends on a friday, we didn't wait too long in line maybe 5 minutes. Hot people working there, the music was good. Gets packed, but all in all worth it!

Strange set-up. Small rectangle tables that are too low and small. Don't go if you are more than a couple, as you will be seated in an L-shape set up. We were two couples and ordered drinks. The "home-made" drinks were ok. ,and cost a whopping $20.00 each ,which included tax and tip. The food was average as well. We ordered the combination platter for 4. It was very tastey. We had an 8:30 reservation for a Saturday night ,and the place was empty. The waitress we had continued to ask for our order. We wanted to drink and chill. By the 4th time, we felt compelled to order as we had requested the previous 3 times more time.; I guess the chef was bored. I would not reccommend this restaurant to anyone, as there are so many interesting eateries to choose from in NYC.

Booked a table / bottles last wkd; very nice hostess I dealt with on the phone. When we got there, though, I got passed around from clipboard person at the door, to doorperson #1, to floor staff, back to doorperson, asked for manager, then back to clipboard lady who finally showed us to our table...which was still occupied by the party that had eaten dinner there, even though it was nearly midnight. Annoying. Then our waitress ignored us for the first 20 minutes and I had to go flag her down across the room...seemed like one girl was waiting on like 8 private tables and moving as slow as she could. Had expected things to work a little more smoothly than that. Once we got those kinks ironed out, though, our waitress was relatively attentive, the scene was exactly what I was hoping for (chill but not over the top pretentious), and our party had a blast. Staff kept the private table area relatively free of riff-raff, which was appreciated. Late at night they told a handful of my friends outside that they'd have to pay cover, which was annoying b/c we dropped nearly $1,000 there, although in fairness they had told me in advance that after my first 10 guests they'd have to start paying cover. Would go back again. Good scene; just get the personnel flow ironed out.

I went to this place with few friends and had something to eat. We ordering a bunch of appetizer and shared and I must say every single one of them was wow. Picking on each other plates never been so fun. Very different taste but east one was hat off. I must say it's the best sushi I ever tried in 14 years.
We stayed in for drinks and got a very pleasant time. The nice stuff and cool owners rewarded us with a complementary bottle of champagne. We stayed in for some drinks and watch the entire place turn to nightlife with some serious dance party. I give it my highest recommendation. Can' wait to try the rest of the menu...

i've lived in new york for 7 years, and i've never been to a bar that is as crappy as this place. they charge you $20 at the door, then demand that you check your coat for $3 (i had two layers of coats, so they charged me $6). only a bar that knows that it has no potential for longevity would tax you at every possible occassion. i complained about my general disapointment with the service and general atmosphere, and they couldn't care less. it really had nothing to do with the actual $$$ (because they are quite trivial), at some point it became a matter of principal that a place that is as crappy as this place shouldn't be able to extract any more expense from me without giving me alcohol in return.

I remember going there a couple of times last year and being really happy with the place itself (it's beautiful) and the service, as well as the music. This time though, the bouncers (I think one of their names was Artemius) really took care of me when I couldn't find my friends and wasn't particularly in a state to take care of myself. So I have to say that this place is great on its own but now, for personal reasons, also I'd like to know that it's doing well and that people go there!

Dont know about the food, but I can tell you as far as night life goes.. it always smells like B.O. and you always always see certain little animals scurrying around outside the club. Also, unless you have a table/bottles, don't expect to have any room to move.

I have never written a review on Citysearch before, but I wanted to let others know that Boucarou Lounge is one of New York's best kept secrets, especially for private events and parties. I attended a party there the other night and thought that the lounge had a great decor and vibe, but most importantly the staff was friendly and the food was absolutely amazing! They also have a private room in the back, which provides for a private dining option without feeling removed from the overall ambiance of the restaurant. I highly recommend Boucarou for private events, dinner, or cocktails! They do all of the above better than most places I have been too.

I had been to Boucarou several times to dance my troubles away but decided to try their dinner last night with a friend. Just about everything was delicious from the shirmp corncake to the crab crusted filet mignon. The entrees took a little longer than i expected , but were well worth the wait.

As for drinks, the "Mont Blanc" and "21 grams" cocktails were both great.

The maitre d' was accommodating when we asked for a more private table.

Not too many places in the city have great food and dancing, I'll be back for both!

This place is very disorganized. My husband's company held an event with 150 people and the manager didn't even know it was going on when we got there. She was extremely rude and nasty. The service was horrible. The minute I walked in my husband ordered a wine from the bar and the bartender poured two drinks and then was on the phone for 10 minutes before getting my drink. Eveyone was extremely rude and nasty. The food was ok. There wasn't enough food being passed around. It was an overall horrible experience. I will never go back.

I had dinner at Boucarou with my bosses and a co-worker last week and I was thoroughly impressed with the food. I ordered the calamari appetizer as my entree and it was extremely tasty. Portions are small considering the price. Everyone else raved about their dishes. And we all split a couple desserts, the carrot cake was delicious, and the trio mousse was good as well.I recommend to anyone.

I went out with a group of my girlfriends for dinner and drinks. Many of us were running about 20 minutes late because of the weather and slow trains, but two of the girls made it on time. Of course they knew they'd have to wait for the whole group so they sat at the bar and had a drink. When we checked in the hostess (beware of the model-wannabe tall a$$ black chick) said the only way we still had our reservation was because the 2 girls showed up on time. Fair enough. I think they gave us the worst table in the house (right behind the b!tchy reservationist) because of this. Oh well, that was fine too. Dinner and drinks were good, but throughout the night she kept trying to take our menu away eventhough we repeatedly told her we wanted to hang onto it in case we wanted to order something else. Towards the end of dinner she snatched the menu away while we were chatting. Does this place not have enough menus or what? The hostess' shift was obviously coming to an end and another hostess took over. While b!tchy hostess organized her menus (or whatever she does that makes her job so important) she threw her purse on top of our purses and coats and bumped my chair without and "excuse me" or "sorry" and eventually took off. I was half tempted to knock her bag on the the floor, but this chick is huge and kinda scary! Seriously, who does she think she is? The food is unfortunately not good enough and we will never go back to this place..

So my bf and I were looking for a nice, different place to go for my birthday and he remembered reading about this place. I said yes, though I was still a little skeptical because the menu was kinda limited....one word WOW!!! The food was delicious and I am kinda a picky eater but all I have to say is WOW!!! The decor is kinda longey but it was good. The service could be a little faster but the food was def. worth the wait. I ordered the Lamb Chops and my bf could not keep out of my plate, he ordered the salmon and I could not stop picking at his food. Def. a place to check out if you want something different and delicious.

s.# e conversational: Write it as if relaying your experience to a good friend.
# Be specific: Generalities like "lazy service" or "tasty pizza" leave people wanting more detail.
# Be yourself: If you're an expert on burgers, let us know. If this is your first-time mass

This is a great spot to go for a cocktails after work with colleagues or to meet up with friends. Great for conversation and nice atmosphere. Also, the menu was nice to order small plates. I had the fried calamari and salad maison and would have both again. My friend had the fries and they are amazing!
I will definately be going back

I was suprised to read about the problem one of your reviewers had with a double charge, I have had the same problem but encountered no problem. I thought the girl who took care of it was very professional and not rude at all. And whats wrong with being blond?
I thought the service was great , The ambiance and the food terrific I will be back for sure.
I am a true city girl.

The food and decor of the place were fine. Our server was clueless though. We instructed her on how to split the bill between different credit cards, (not rocket science especially since the tip was included). The poor blonde (go figure!) got it wrong 3 times. They ended up charging my card twice and have not returned phone calls from the "manager" Michelle who only works apparently 4 hours a day and doesn't know how to return phone calls. I will now go slander this place all over the internet. This is New York City. Good food and ambiance are a dime a dozen and working in the service industry I know that your customer service is what can make you or break you. So, if you want to bother with laziness and rude staff (the girl just hung up on me after letting her know I was fed up with the lack of attention to this matter). then please dine here!!! For the price, it was totally overrated. And to think, I wouldn't have had much to say if they just got it right the first time. Ok time, to go tell my story elsewhere. Good luck with this place!

I came here last Thursday and have come away with a really great impression of the place. Great atmosphere: relaxed yet trendy. The drinks were half the price and there were many moderately priced food items on the menu (five dollars for truffle fries!). Also, great service. I will definitely be coming again.

I went for dinner to this place and must say the food was absolutely phenomenal. However around 11 is when the place turns into a club and I must say it was awful! It was way too packed way too hot and the waitress was extremely rude. She was too busy insulting our group instead of focusing on the fact that the table she was servicing ran out of cups. I would definitely come for the dinner but leave before the club starts. Clearly this place needs to realize how many people it can actually hold inside.

I met up with a few friends for dinner on a Saturday night, and although we were a little bit late for our 8:30 reservation, they were very accommodating. One of the first things that I noticed upon sitting down was that this place was NOT designed to be a restaurant, as it was awkward getting into our seats. But we were willing to overlook those minor details because our gorgeous waitress was very friendly, helpful and prompt with her service - and at least two managers came by to check on us, which was nice. Their music selection wasn't as bad as people said it was in previous reviews, and I didn't feel like it was too loud or inappropriate. You're dining in a lounge chair, for crying out loud! - it's not exactly a five-star/pretentious type of restaurant, you know? We did wait about 50 minutes before we got our food, but they warned us ahead of time as there was a late dinner rush coming in, and they did offer us a free upgrade on our wine selection free of charge (so we had no problems lounging around for a bit). In any case, we ordered the ceviche and calamari for starters, and although the ceviche looked looked a glass of VOMlT (my fiance's words, not mine), it was actually quite tasty. The calamari was over-breaded, but was still edible. Our main courses, on the other hand, was FOODGASMIC! My fiance had the duck, which was amazing, I got the filet mignon, which melted in my mouth (for once, someone cooked my steak properly!), and our friends got the snapper and sashimi seperately (although, my friends said that their sashimi wasn't really all that great - and we're all sushi fanatics). Overall, I would recommend this restaurant as a casual dining place, for some above average food. Despite their awkward setup, I'd have to give them credit for their friendly and attentive staff and comfortable/laid-back atmosphere.

Pros: Beautiful waitstaff, attentive, friendly, ambiance, food

Cons: Awkward setup, food looks funny, asian dishes not too tasty, parking

I had a graduation party at Boucarou recently for about 100 ppl and the night was amazing. It started with the managers. Ever since we started planning the event they were so helpful and accommodating to all our needs. When we arrived for the event the place was all set up the staff were all friendly and on top of everything. The food absolutely blew the guests away. One dish to the next, it was all perfection and everyone is still raving about it. Shortly after dinner the place started to fill up with a great fun crowd to party with. Boucarou is the place to be if your looking for great food, service, and a fun night whether you're 2 people or a 100 you're guaranteed an incredible night and if there's anything you need, the managers and staff will have it taken care of in no time!

I went with 2 friends past Fri for a 7:30 reservation. It was empty with the exception of 1 table. We were seated, but the table was 1/2 a table and would not comfortably sit 3 ppl or even hold our plates. When the manager came by, we asked if we could have a table that would comfortably fit us and that's when the problem began - he was EXTREMELY rude and unaccommodating and actually went on to argue with us that we only had 3 and could not be seated at a table for 4 (note that the current table was only suitable for 2). We asked if we could then push the 1/2 table next to us to our 1/2 and he again was rude and was actually annoyed and said all the tables would be full and reserved for later. I find it hard to believe ALL tables were reserved and perhaps they would be later, but it was 7:30! We were polite and even said we would be fine if the other 1/2 of our table was taken during our meal if the entire restaurant filled up in the next hour or 2 (highly unlikely). He continued to be rude and offered to sit us in the back sectioned off area which is where at the time, the workers were there folding tablecloths/napkins! It wasn't even a dining area - all there was there was a very low table with seats! Did he expect us to sit on the floor to be level with the table? To even suggest it was degrading. When we pointed out the fact it was not even a dining area, he went on to say "I am the manager and I tell you where to sit". EXACT WORDS. I have never been horrified by such service. We would have been more understanding if he had POLITELY informed us that all the tables were reserved and offered some sort of solution or regret - still unbelievable but at least it would have been polite with manners. Instead, he was rude and disrespectful to an extreme degree. Absolutely disgusts me. Needless to say, we walked out and will never go there. Go elsewhere and don't support him. And as a final note, no one had entered the restaurant by the time we left, close to 8.

i never heard of this place before but a bunch of my friends said it was cool so i ended up going on a saturday night last week for a friends birthday party and it was awesome. the music was great, the crowd was perfect, our waitress was hot, staff was friendly, & it was just a lot of fun. i ended up going back the following saturday (4/5) and had another great night. i would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to throw a party or just go out and have good time. plus i also heard the food is amazing so if you go earlier you could get dinner and then stay, get a table, and party for the rest of the night... sounds good to me!

I had a dinner party on saturday with my co-workers. I really wanted to impress them so i took them to Boucarou. The food was delicious (amazing filet mignon), the ambiance and the service were great. The waitress really took care of us (Shina). We finally decided to stay for night life. We had the best time ever, my boss was there and everybody was very happy.... We left the club at 4AM!!!!!!!! I definitely recommend this place for dinner and night life!

We had our highschool girls reunion last night at boucarou. I was impressed by the beauty of the venue and the scene, good mix of new yorkers (this is soo rare on WE!!!). We arrived there 45 min late but they kept our table eventhough the restaurant was getting really busy.We decided to order sharing plates for everyone with a lot of sushi. I remember tasting that unsweetened peanut butter lamb (this dish is the chef signature dish) and going OMG.. really, food was impressive. Then they changed their setup around 11ish and we went to the bar for some drinks. The scene was great , I usually like the meatpacking much better but now, we have our new neighborhood hot spot!!!

went on friday for an early dinner with a large group of friends and had a great experience discovering very tasty dishes like a unsweetened peanut lamb stew or a senegalese mustard broiled fish that makes you discover new feelings to your tastebuds and add to that some very refreshing cucumber martini or a homemade apple martini( but they call it green bee or some like that, feels like biting in an apple but you drink it!!) and you find yourself floating in the heavens of flavors!!! didnt know the place turned into a club after. we enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed over(we were suppose to go clubbing somewhere else after) for nightlife which was not planned but they manage to accomodate us with a table with a couple of bottles and was without a doubt worth it!!!
friendly staff as well which makes the place one of my new favorite LES hangout!!

We went to Boucarou last night for a friend's birthday. We made reservation for dinner. It was the worst bar/lounge I have been to in all of Manhattan. The service was terrible. The waitress had no clue what she was doing. She kept confusing the order for both food and drinks. We had to wait about 2 hours for the food to finally arrive. Most of the dishes ordered were terrible. If a bar has the audacity to charge ridiculous price for its food, it should at least be decent. We had to wait a good 45 minutes to get the bill and get out of the place. Terrible food. Terrible service and terrible music too.

I am usually the one in charge of bringing my group of girls to news spots in the city, we love hanging in the scene from Megu to Sapa including butter, sushi samba even johnny Utah. Last week, I choose boucarou since their chef is formely from Asia de Cuba and I also read about the hot bartenders. They had a 60 ppl group of tourists dining on one side of the room. The waitstaff was great in communicating with us, we waited quite a while but the vibe of this place is so great that we did not feel the time running. We made a selection of Sushi (they were excellent) with some roasted chicken and pan seared scallops. 5 stars for the food!!! the cocktails are made with fresh homemade purees yummy! Then, we moved to the bar after dinner and hung out with this 6ft 3in james dean french american bartender hot hot, hot!!!! we got there at 8.30pm and closed the place at 4am, a group of 12 girls, that means it all!!

Seriously. What happened to all that French chicness??? i guess its true that France has it's false... like all that ridiculous accordion music, but their health care is the best in the industrialized world, as is their poverty rate, and they're completely independent of mid-east oil, and they're the greenest country, and they're not fat, and they have public intellectuals in France.... we (i'm American by the way) have Dr. Phil. They invented se-ex during the day... lingerie... and the tongue... can't they come up with a better place than this?!... So. From now on all of you high ranking Buush Administration officials; because the French are righter than you on most things; when France comes up in conversations you are totally allowed to mention this place "way beyond the so called Freedom Fries, which was pretty lame" as a credible argument to be anti French, ok.. ok.. maybe i went a little bit too far..... Although the bad experience, some very interesting faces and staff, probably French models at the bar.. ah oui... oui... the blonde girl was hot! n i must say the food was good but next time i'll order in and stop by for just a drink!

I recently had a birthday party at boucarou for about 40 people. We had an amazing time! Everybody came up to me afterwards and told me it was the best party they had ever been to. I had reserved some tables in the back of the lounge, and the staff had arranged balloons to make the area stand out. At first I thought it would be cheesy, but it really looked great! I had ordered bottle service and food, which I highly recommend. The bottle service comes with extras on the side - chocolate and fruit, what more could anyone want? And the food was ridiculously good as well. The staff had arranged everything to look unbelievable. I can't even tell you. I was so impressed by everyone there - from our hostess to the owner Patrice who was super-nice and friendly. Also, the music was really really good. Everyone was dancing. there was even a live bongo player which made the night that much more fun. And the place was not pretentious at all, everyone was just having a good time. Not your usual snooty, to-coo-for-school new york scene. If you are thinking of having a party in nyc - go to this place. You won't be disappointed!

Drinks are way over-priced for no good reason. Crowd is lame and full of Long Island dorks with sub-par girls. The doorstaff thinks it's running Club54 - Terrible attitude and extremely rude. Bartender tried to rip me off by shortchanging me $10. Just a terrible experience overall. So many other places that actually deserve my money and company.

My experience at Boucarou was very different than the rest. Very welcoming place and friendly staff. Service was good and Host (unlike most places in NYC) actually cared and made us feel at home! It's a very unique place. Don't expect four star service but rather a chilled out three star; but who in the NYC goes to restaurant for a four star service. At Boucarou you can relax and be assured to be well taken care of. The menu seems a little off setting, but the food was something worth going out for. The food was great and so very interesting ( forget Peanut Butter and Co.) I had the Chef's special: a concoction of peanut butter and turf which was served sizzling HOT and very yummy!!!! You must try for yourself! Its named after the chef.
All and all everyone was very happy! Its even possible to stay after dinner for music and drinks! Very recomended. However it gets a bit packed during nightlife and if you dont have a table expect a 5 to ten minute wait at the bar.

My experience at Boucarou was mediocre partly because the manager was very unprofessional in taking care of our reservation ( even tough he tried to sweet talk talk us ) he kept on asking about minimums for our table that I had reserved but could only keep till eleven. When we tried to order a bottle of wine; to accompany our dinner... it seemed he didn't know the difference between white or red and was completely lost! To food however was great. I must say. However the highlight of our night... including my mother and older relatives, was the site of a super tall handsome bartender which we still talk about to this day!!!
All together Boucarou is a fun place. Just make sure you make proper arrangements when you reserve. And sit in the front, by the bar for the loveliest landscape!!! I.E. THE BARTENDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a party of 12 in here on Friday Oct. 12, 2007 at 9pm. After making the reservation, I wasn't sure what to expect since it was my first time here. As it turns out in NYC, parking is a nightmare, so we got there slightly delayed. The staff was very accommodating and we were seated in a private lounge, overlooking the rest of the restaurant. Service was very good!

The wait for the dinner was a bit long but was worth it, since the food was great. The owner stopped by to check on us and was very welcoming. I must admit that my party grew to 17 people during the night and because the private lounge was large enough, we really had no issues.

Around 11pm or so, the music picked up and you could tell that more people were getting in. If you want to enjoy this restaurant/lounge, I'd suggest you make a reservation and get there before 11pm. By the time we walked out around 1am, there was a long line outside the door.

I didn't get a chance to check out the roof... I was more interested in the menu and the overall service. We'll see about that when next I go there.

I liked the ambiance and the music also. All in all, I enjoyed my experience here and will go back again.

Pros: Service, Ambiance, Private Loung for my large party (17), friendly owner, food

Cons: wait time for food can be better

had my birthday party here and it was the most terrible experience. i'd called ahead and made arrangements and reservations, even went to boucarou in person to check out the place and meet the manager. but the night of the party, when my friends and i arrived, the table wasn't ready, the crowd of us had to stand there and wait, i asked to see the manager, he didn't come to help us out until 25 minutes later, while we stood there. when he finally spoke with us, he said they were getting it ready, but the table was still being occupied by other patrons even though we had a reservation and i had put down a credit card for it. after we finally sat down, the bartender, waiters, and night manager kept interrupting us to ask about payment methods and putting the whole tab on my card (even though we'd already made clear everyone would pay on their own). Staff would come over repeatedly and I had to relay the same messages every ten minutes b/c the staff was not communicating to each other. they kept pressuring us to get bottle service, which we eventually did, but then they kept trying to get us to get more bottles. if the service and atmosphere was better, it may have been worth it, but everyone was so unprofessional, it's really a ripoff. the manager came and tried to apologize at the very end of the night, but the damage was done and overall, only the waitress was really nice and helpful. everyone else was unprofessional and they were messy with simple logistics like seating, timing and communicating. seems like they are trying to be an upscale lounge in this downtown neighborhood, but they can't pull it off.. it's just overpriced and not fun. after all the planning we did beforehand, the party was just a major buzzkill.

Pros: music is not bad, lots of seating

Cons: poor, unprofessional service, constant party interruptions, did not honor reservation

I had dinner and the food was great, it's a good idea to share if you're with a group of friends because of the large portions. After dinner we decided to stay for the party scene. we were obligated to buy a bottle and had to switch tables if we wanted to hang around. It was a bit of an issue but it all worked out. Their prices are not so bad and the music was good. Our waitress was super nice and extremely attractive which is a rare combination in NY. We had a great time and look forward to our next visit. The place was a bit crowded at one point. I would highly recommend this place, we went on a friday and it's a lot of fun!

My sister had her birthday there, when we arrived the space she had reserved was given to someone else because her guests hadn't shown up but the staff made sure to make it right, so we ended up getting a better spot for the party! The waitress we had was fantastic! She made sure my sister had a blast, and she did. The food was delicious! And the cake... wow! Music was good, all hits. This lounge is one of the best in the LES, definetly not the cheapest, but it was worth it.

Pros: stellar service

Cons: make sure your party arrives early, they'll take your spot!

A couple of my friends and I decided to try a new spot and happened to find this place. The door staff is cool they let six guys in with a two bottle min. Six guys are always a hard sell at the door. We arrived a bit early the bar was busy not the dance floor. Our waitress was amazing, not to mention gorgeous!!!! No attitude, she made sure we had everything we needed. The experience was good and the party was fun, the DJ had a good mix of music. My only negative would be the age of most of the crowd, they were young. I would go back just to hang out with my server. It's worth checking out.
