We moved from Cambridge, MA to Manhattan and the owner Dave Malka promised us best service ever. He also said that we would have such a great experience we would never want to use another company anymore. WELL:
First they made a fixed price they changed afterwards, which one could argue was still in the realm of acceptable behaviors..
Then, the movers pressured my wife (almost physically) to give them more tip. She had given them 90 USD but they wanted at least 150. I am not sure if tipping is customary with such high prices. My university colleagues tell me tipping in interstate moves is illegal.. Even if that is not accurate, that kind of tipping is price and not tip, and the physical threats were just unacceptable.
Third, they did not deliver ONE full box, which had my computer in it. As we checked in the old place and in new house and nothing was there, it was not delivered. We believe that the movers were mad for not getting the tip they wanted and so they either dumped it or sold the stuff.
I tried many times to get a hold of Dave to check things out, but he blocked my calls, never called back and never answered emails..

So all I can do is to spread the word to NOT DEAL WITH THESE GUYS..

We hired Special Moving Company on Sunday, March 23 for a long distance move from Massachusetts to North Carolina commencing on Monday morning, March 24 after our hired mover cancelled last minute. We were contacted by an employee named Sam who took a complete inventory of the items we were moving over the phone, and wrote up a contract stating they would complete the move, including packing and unpacking of 15 boxes and disassembly and reassembly of all of our furniture for a price of $1856. Upon receiving a contract he emailed to us with very few of the items in our inventory listed, we brought this up to Sam and he stated that the items were "small things" and they don't include those in their inventory, but that we would not be charged extra for all of these "small things". We clarified that we had already packed 12-15 boxes and would need another 15 large boxes packed, and he stated that was fine and even if we required 17 or 20 boxes there would be no additional charges. We further clarified that all of our furniture was brand new and in original boxes, and stated that rather than have it assembled on delivery (for free) so Special Moving would have to disassemble and reassemble upon our arrival in NC, we would just like to leave it in its original packaging and have it assembled upon delivery to NC. We were told this was not a problem and it was all included in the $1856 "sit back and relax" guaranteed price quote.

Upon getting all of our belongings loaded into their moving truck on the 24th, we were told the cost for the move would be in excess of $4000 as they were charging us by the cubic foot, though there was no mention of this before or in the contract we were sent. I called and spoke with an Edgar at Special Moving, and after a lengthy argument lasting about two hours, I agreed to pay $3000 for all of our belonging delivered safely, items unpacked, and furniture assembled, rather than pay them $1856 to unload our items from their truck on the spot and not move anything, which is the only solution he offered. Furthermore, the three movers handling our items left several items behind, left our place a mess and had the nerve to start demanding tips as my wife and I cleaned up their mess they were supposed to take care of as described in their "sit back and relax" package.

Upon delivery in NC on Friday, March 28, we were told by the movers that they would not assemble the furniture, and would not unpack any boxes (even those we had paid for them to pack and unpack). I called and spoke with Edgar again, and he was unwilling to refund us any portion of the $3000 we paid or direct his movers to complete their contracted duties. After unpacking our boxes, we further noted that several items we had moved had been stolen, including a Nintendo Wii console with a brand new game inside, $75 worth of unopened liquor, a microwave, and a shoe carousel (value of these items are approximately $530 to replace).

It should be noted, we had price quotes from other movers to complete the move we wanted at or around the same original "guaranteed" price that Special Moving quoted us. We went with Special Moving because of their claim that their price was "GUARANTEED", but this meant nothing in the long run as they did nothing to own up to their guarantee.

this moving company is the worst moving company in the world do not listen to the positive reviews they are not from customers but rather from the special moving management. You don't have to believe me see for yourself... see the five star review titled "Wanna sit back and relax? Special Moving is the right place! ;-) 5 Star Rating - World class" there is several reviews posted around the net with the same heading, not only that but all of the 5 star reviews have the same type of misspellings and grammar errors... they are the special moving scum bag staff.

Ive been moving twice a year for the past 6 years for business. Moving was always a lot of stress for me and usually turned out to be a nightmare. My last two moves were done by special moving. Everything went perfect. They don't overcharge. The price is very fair. There weren't any hidden fee's. I was told up front what the price was. The things got there within the time stated in the contract. Great customer service. I felt comfortable enough to build a relationship with them since I move a lot. I felt very taken care of. The movers were very nice as well as professional. All in all both moves were perfect. No complaints. I will always use special moving for my future moves and I recommend everyone to move with them.

I recently moved from NY to FL. I booked a move with another company before going with Special Moving. I recently had knee surgery and couldn't move around well, so I wasn't able to do too much packing. I was really stressed out when they didn't show, considering that they were going to do the packing for me. I had an email from Special Moving and decided to give them a call. Six hours later! After speaking with one of their representatives, I felt really comfortable and secure since the price was guaranteed. She went over all the details with me, had no problem answering any of my questions, sent me everything in writing, and even went over the contract with me. They showed up the next day on time. The guys were really nice. I didn't lift a finger. Everything was wrapped and packed properly. They delivered the things in Miami only 5 days later (as expected and promised). The rep kept in touch with me the whole time and so did the drivers to let me know where the things were. Nothing was damaged. Everything went very smooth. I recommend this company to anyone who wants a stress free move, and especially a piece of mind!

Since I had already moved across country, a friend agreed to contact a moving company to ship my stuff. I spoke with Sam on the phone, he took my credit card information, and billed me for the $200 deposit. As soon they took my property into their possession, however, they refused to take any further credit card payments--demanding either cash or certified check.

Further, because I had not signed a contract with them, they insisted that I sign one ASAP and fax back to them. I told them that until we could resolve the payment issue, I would not sign. Edgar, the dispatcher, stated that if that was the case "we don't have your property."

I have filed a complaint with the Massachusetts Attorney's General office, and plan to aggressively pursue this matter. This company is truly awful--I'm go to take them to court. Please contact me at jeffyboz at yahoo dot com.

Although their crews are pretty good, these guys are highway robbers. It is all part of a scam because I was initially quoted 1400 based on an inventory list that was actually put together by a moving professional from Allied Van Lines, so it can be assumed that it was pretty accurate. However, by the time everything was packed (which only by the way took an hour and a half), the price had allegedly risen to 1800. I was encouraged by one of their employees to call their office and negotiate this price increase. I did just that, but after telling some guy called Sam that he could cut the rubbish and get to the chase of whether they would reduce the price or not, this Sam fellow got very defensive and basically hung up on me. Obviously, from that point on, I had no interest in further negotiating with them. So do stay away from this company. A final interesting occurrence took place when my stuff was to be delivered and the driver told me that I would be charged an extra 250 for a shuttle in case their truck could not enter my property. Although that fee was in the contract, the interesting thing is that the customer is the one that is supposed to arrange for the shuttle which I find preposterous since consumers are not in the moving business and given the lack of any lead time to do this. Anyway, luckily, my property was lenient enough to allow for their conventional truck to pull in. In conclusion, I am happy that I will not deal with these clowns again.

Before any homeowner moves, he has a nightmare. What if they dont show up? What if they break something valuable? What if they try to strong arm me once all my belongings are in their hands? I too had that nightmare with unique anxiety. I was stuck overseas. I inconvieneced family and friends to take time from their jobs to meet the Special Moving Company in my absence. My father in law was to wait at the pickup, my brother in law was to wait at the drop-off. Both took personal days. Then the movers never showed up. The appointment was for 9:00. By 10:00 we rescheduled for Noon. At 12:30, their dispatcher assured me that they were just a few minutes away on the LIE. By 1:30 I called again only to hear that the dispatcher had nothing new to report and didnt know where they were. By 2:00 the salesman, Sam, promised me that they could pick up that evening and drop off the next day. I conceeded the point only for the dispatcher, Edgar, to tell me that Sam's plan wasnt possible. Sam stopped taking my calls as a series of no less than 5 different sales associates made up lame stories as to his wearabouts. Each time, the salesman, Sam, would use one lame excuse, the dispatcher Edgar would use another. By the end, I trusted niether. Nor should you. The trully frighting thing is that the move was only 30 miles! Now I am trying to find another mover on two days notice, In the New York area, this is an almost impossible task. Every mover wakes in sweat at the thought that after their careful planning the moving truck wont show up. I am grateful for never having met them, but cursed for foolishly relying on them.
