I went to Island for brunch on a Sunday with my husband-we are still celebrating our honeymoon and wanted to try something new. We were so amazed by the ambiance and the food. We had the Chinatown omelet and the LIC. Both were delicious and our service was fine (it should have been considering that we were the only people there). My only complaint would be that I noticed on the postcard (that they gave us at the end) that two glasses of champagne are included with brunch. We never got those glasses.

My husband and I are looking for a great space to celebrate our anniversary and we loved this place. We asked to speak to a manager and got a tour of the space. The second floor was just as breathtaking. We are definitely considering having our anniversary party there next year.

Im used to Manhattan lounges/clubs giving people a hard time which is why I tried to keep it local. The door guy wouldnt let my nicely dressed latin/black friends in. They all had button downs and shoes. The place was empty and we were even buying bottles. I found it strange how they let a bunch of european guys in with no problem but wouldnt let two of my latin/black friends in. When I asked the door guy what the problem was, he answered "Can't do it, cant do it" No explanation, no reason. He was standing out there coked up out of mind with an out-dated trucker hat, target shirt, and dirty sneakers and he's dictating who is and isnt coming in. I think they forgot where theyre located...stay away from this place if you dont want to deal with city attitude...

After a successful opening and six month consulting
project, Executive Chef of Island Restaurant and Lounge Josie Smith-Malave of Top Chef Season 2 has fulfilled her purpose and has moved on to tackle her next project "The SpeakEasy" in Ft. Greene/Clinton Hill. Stepping up as Island's full time Executive
Chef is Sous Chef Dan Morales formerly of Mesa Grill NYC and The
River Cafe, Brooklyn. Island will still be
featuring a Seasonal Mediterranean menu, but will be
changing some of its dishes to focus on larger
plates, moving away from its initial small plate dominated menu. More
to come in the next couple of weeks, but that's the
news for now."
