Taking a teacher training has been a personal goal of mine for quite some time. Joschi's studio covers vinyasa flow and I felt this would suit my personality.

The benefits to this teacher training are excellent as we are encouraged to teach on a regular basis. Joschi is extremely knowledgable in anatomy and applies it well to his yoga teachings. He is passionate on the subject and certainly give ways to help apply this complex subject in an attainable set of lessons. As in most forms of education, you have to review what you learn, anatomy is not easy and is well worth reviewing considering how direct he has crafted his teachings.

My favorite thing about this studio is that it addresses yogi values in the 21st century in New York. I take yoga for a number of reasons of health and balance and find that their realistic approach invites me into developing my practice further, without losing the realities I am tied to via career and environment.

Monika also handles a large percentage of the teachings and emphasizes safety, encourages confidence, and will push you when ready. She will encourage you to be an effective communicator which is incredibly important when giving instruction. Not just what we say, but how to say things and how to say the same thing in several ways.

Yes, the program is cheap but please remember the saying, "You get what you pay for" - it applies to this program.

Set aside a little more money and go to a different studio for your teacher training. It will be well worth an extra money to get certified with a different program.

Email and conversations prior to obtaining my credit card information were friendly. After charging the non-refundable teacher training fee, the attitudes of the owners, Joschi and Monika, changed severely. As fast as that card was swiped, the look of pleasure turned to disgust.

The training manuals lacked many of the poses that we were studying and that we were supposed to use (honestly, I got more information online and could have done an online course for like $300 bucks and had more help).

When I DID look at more yoga information online I found that many of their manual pages had been taken directly off of online sites (sites which are copyrighted, hello- plagiarism, they didn't even bothering to change wording or punctuation or attempt to hide that it was ripped off). And yes, they have THOSE SAME pages in their manual copyrighted FOR THEMSELVES at a later date.

One day I listened (with several other students) while Joschi screamed at a woman who had come to him with a scheduling conflict. The next day he had a personal conversation with her during our final practicum- IN FRONT OF ALL OF US. It was completely awkward and inappropriate and more importantly- unprofessional.

Speaking of unprofessional, one evening an owner had a conversation with our group about her disgust for the behavior of one of her teachers, then admitted that she hadn't actually addressed it with this teacher. Teachers in training shouldn't hear about studio gossip and especially if it is an issue with someone who works in the studio.

No syllabus was given for our last month of teacher training. Perhaps this doesn't sound like a big deal but for those of you who really know yoga, you know you shouldn't eat for a couple hours prior to an asana class- hard to do when you never know if you are going to take a 2 hour Master class or not! It was hard to set aside time in busy schedules for papers and other assignments when we never knew what was coming until we were in the midst of it. Anyone Type A, first born, or simply busy will find this frustrating.

I did not receive feedback on my teaching until the last week of the program (many other students complained of this problem as well).

The open book anatomy test that we had 4 days to work on took over 20 hours. This is not because I'm an idiot, it's because it wasn't written in understandable English. I'm all for people coming to the U.S. (they are from Germany) but please, if you are going to test English speakers, the test needs to be written in correct English. (I would never go to Germany and create a test without having a native German proof the exam.) When this issue was brought to Joschi's attention he blew it off and said, "Anatomy is just difficult." I agree, but it's manageable. Having an anatomy test in questionable English makes if nearly impossible.

A bigger issue than the language problem (with the test) is that once they were turned in we never got the tests back so we were unable to learn from our mistakes. This is especially problematic in a teacher training program.

For those of you who think I may just be sensitive- I can tell you I have had teachers in the past who have been total jerks- but have been great teachers. The difference here is the teaching quality, not the attitude.

Search: terrible, horrible, worst, awful, teacher training

If I could give a zero star rating I would do so.

Joschi Yoga is what got me hooked on yoga. I tried yoga a couple times before and really didn't get into it (too slow, didn't think I got much of a workout). The classes here changed my mind. The studios are nice and clean, and there are always mats, bricks, etc., available. My only wish is that they had more classes. A lot of good instructors, a great vibe and friendly people! I just signed up for another set of classes with the super friendly front desk and I can't wait to go back.

Joschi seems to be a good teacher, but he also seems to be an unpleasant egomaniac. When I was in a class, someone in the back of the room picked up her phone and looked at it. That was maybe not so polite, but Joschi??s reaction was over the top.

He started brutally putting her down in front of everyone, saying that his class was ??not a lounge,? and going on and on. When she tried to explain, he cut her off and kept haranguing her. After she fled the class, he still didn??t let up.

Rather than just continuing with the class ?? having driven off the offender, he tried to engage people in a discussion of why he shouldn??t tolerate that kind of disrespect.

Joschi otherwise seemed quite jolly, but he??s clearly got a problem with suppressed rage. I don??t know who his next victim was or will be, but my bet is that a lot of people in that room decided it wouldn??t be them and voted with their feet.

This studio also gets bad karma points for cynical beating the City Search ratings system. ??Gorgeous? studio like a ??spa?? No one who attended a class at this studio wrote that. The yoga studio itself is nice enough; it??s large and bright with big windows. But the changing rooms are minuscule and the restroom is what you??d find in a tenement. I have no problem with that; I didn??t go to the class for an upscale bathroom. But at least be honest if you??re writing your own rave reviews.

Yoga haters and yoga lovers alike can rejoice at this progressive studio. I don't have enough good things to say! From the anatomically focused vinyasa flow to the fun teachers, all emcompassed by a gorgeous yet simple studio... there's just too much to go crazy about! For beginners and experienced yogis alike, the practice here will be challenging and exciting. They even have a
yoga4men class for those in doubt about the credibility of yoga as a workout. Visit the studio and experience an anatomical awakening you won't regret, I promise!

This is a teacher training which offers an in-depth experience under flexible terms for a very competitive rate. The teachers are all very good and the environment is fun. With the location being quite busy, the studio offers a different component of discipline when compared to an obviously tranquil environment; however, it works. This studio offers an experience that can turn into whatever your would like it for based on the diverse experience of the teachers. Thank you, Joschi, Monika and all of your great teachers.

Each teacher is slightly different which gives this small, modern Manhattan Studio a lot of variety as far as classes go.
Joschi has a strong background in anatomy, Sarah can make you smile through any challenging Asana...

The teacher training program is as affordable as they come and rewarding beyond words. There is so much to learn and the teachers here are full of knowledge and open and willing to share. There is a strong spirit of support and encouragement here. The teachers push you just enough to reach your potential and are always there to remind you to be present and enjoy your experience.
Check this place out, there is something for everyone!
It is located on 23rd in Chelsea closest to the F train but also only about a half a block from the 1 and two blocks from the A,C,E.

Pros: The teachers here all love Yoga and it shows

Having attended yoga classes at various studios around Manhattan, I can confidently say that Joschi is one of the best! The atmosphere is warm and inviting and I feel comfortable there. In addition, I leave every class feeling challenged and inspired. I look forward to every minute that I spend there.

If you like diversity, challenge, and yoga with a more "dancey" feel this studio is for you. The rooms are awesome with tons of windows, and they really know how to use lights to create a perfect ambience. The diversity of teachers and knowledge that these teachers bring to each class is awe-inspiring!! It's a small enough studio that you really can easily cultivate relationships between teachers and owners. It's definitely an amazing studio, I highly recommend it!

Pros: Location, space, diversity of teachers

Cons: Hmmm, I'd have to think about that one.

I shopped around Chelsea for a yoga studio after several years away from practice due to two herniated discs in my lower back. From the moment I walked in to Joschi Body Bodega, I knew I had found something special. Very friendly, no attitude, a comfortable well designed space and great classes. What more could you ask for? The classes are challenging but the focus is on safety. As Joschi always says, "Just do what you can do. Listen to your body. If you can't do something, don't worry. It's just yoga." I'm a regular now and take classes about 3 times a week. I highly recommend giving Joschi and Monica a visit. You won't be disappointed!

I love spending time at this studio! Monika welcomes everyone by name, the space is gorgeous and there's absolutely no attitude. All of the teachers are dedicated to getting the best out of their students, but the real draw is Joschi himself. His classes are challenging and fun. He's famous for his one-liners: "Come on, it's your buttocks!"

I just did my teacher training at Joschi so I was required to take 200 hours of yoga there and still I would go back in a second! The teacher training program there is great and affordable but if you're just looking to practice, i think the place is a real find in some ways.
There's very little pretention, it looks more like a spa than a yoga studio. It's very homelike, people know each other. They have athletic, fitness influenced teachers and they have more spiritual teachers. All of whom are far above average in teaching skills. This is a place for people who like to flow, they all really move you.

If you live or work in Chelsea, and you like a true Vinyasa class, I would give this studio a month, try the different teachers, and you'll find one that fits you for sure. And you'll probably get addicted too :)

Many good things to say about this studio. First, they have something that no other yoga studio I've tried in the City has (not that I've tried them all, but quite a few): a big, beautiful classroom with windows on three sides that's in the back of the building--so it's quiet but open to the outside world. I went to one of Joschi's sweaty advanced classes on a hot and humid summer evening, and as we cooled down, working our way toward savasana, a summer thunderstorm broke and the rain thundering down all around us--amazing. I've worked with several teachers at the studio, and they have been so good--deeply knowledgable and sincerely generous. And I emphasize the generosity especially--unlike some studios, the place is not a cult. They seem to understand that yoga is not about worshipping at the feet of your teacher or swearing allegience to your studio. It's about your own individual practice, and all you may develop and experience with the guidance of a generous teacher. I feel comfortable bringing friends new to yoga there because I have no fear they will be turned off by being made to feel like outsiders, which is nice. And the great teachers mean even in a level one class I'm enjoying a great practice and learning something new every time. Very grateful to have found this gem of a studio.

I checked out several Pilates studios before joining Joschi Body Bodega. It is very convenient and classes are scheduled often enough I can make several during the week. The studio is lovely, well maintained and managed. The teachers are wonderful, especially the gifted Joschi. He?s classes are thorough and demanding but never intimidating. I can even say the classes are fun. Fellow students are friendly and very loyal to this studio. You?ll see.
I began Pilates in hope of relieving back pain. It did that inside of three months and every month thereafter my strength and wellbeing has improved. I even sleep better. Thank you Joschi and Monika.

I used to be the person who didn't like sports much (I have tried several sports, including Yoga), and I had pretty much decided that walking around the city and partying on weekends would be enough sports for me. Then came the day when I was dragged to Joschi by my mom. It was love at first sight. The studio is super clean and perfectly organized, Joschi's classes (Yoga and Pilates) are outstanding, and Monika is always very helpful. I am a regular now (2 -6 times a week) and I feel great. It is also the first time I have started classes and didn't feel like I was born with two left feet and zero coordination.

I always leave the Body Bodega feeling very calm, relaxed, and happy. Joschi's Body Bodega is probably the best thing that has happened to me here in NYC. Special thanks go out to my mom :D, Joschi, and Monika.

Instructors are spot on in how they guide students-gentle but firm encouragement for all. Sequencing in the classes, yoga or Pilates, are creative and challenging for all students increasing mental and physical flexibility and strength. All students are treated the same-with respect, encouragement and honesty. Questions are encouraged and answered. What more could you ask for?

I'll never stop going to pilates at Joschi's. The results I've gotten by taking 2-3 classes per week are amazing! Simply by adding pilates - with Joschi and his staff - to my workout schedule, I've dropped 3 sizes and 20 lbs. I'm never bored - every class is different and varied. All props are included - you don't have to drag your equipment around the city - it's all there! Monika greets us by name and with a smile. Joschi is a breath of fresh air as an instructor - he's smart, funny and congenial. During each class, it's obvious that he really cares about his students. No matter what your fitness level, you will see results!

I absolutely love Joschi Body Bodega, by far the best studio I've been to in the city. The teachers are wonderful, extremely knowledgeable and super friendly. They bring their positive energy into each class and are very supportive. It's so great that every class I go to is different and has that special something that always makes me excited to find out what's going to happen next. But what's so great about this studio is that they actually know who you are and remember everybody's name and so they really created a nice sense of community right from the first time you step into the studio.

Two weeks ago I took Joschi's class in Times Square and loved the energy so much that I went to Joschi Body Bodega the next day to sign up. I wanted to like this studio but I don't at all. There is something strangely pretentious about Joschi. He is an obvious perfomer rather than a yoga teacher. I find his manner a trifle phoney for my taste. That said, I took a class with another instructor who really did not know her left from her right. Lots of jump switches. Then in one class she was like, "Yoga teachers hate when students thwack (i think that was it) their mats down." Seriously, who cares. She turned me off. Then there is the red head (red i think) behind the desk who just eyes everyone up and down as if wondering if they should be there. NOT very yogi. Dissapointed. and befuddled as to how they can set up shop as a yoga studio. Anything goes I suppose in this city. Will search for something real and not phoney. OH and there is limited space to change and the rooms are lit like a club bathroom. You can barely see anything so make sure your pants aren't on backwards when you walk out.

Pros: clean studio

Cons: phoney, attitude, only three or four classes a day

I was a bit nervous going into my first yoga class ever but Joschi made me feel like I've been going there for years. Joschi isn't like a regular studio owner because he actually pays attention to his students and not the profit. He is a wonderful person who takes the time to learn your name, ask your opinions and help you get the most out of your class. If you are going to pay to learn something then get your money's worth and go to Joschi who is absolutely priceless!

Hello! I have been practicing yoga for 5 years, at home and in numerous studios in my travels. I wanted to find a place that gave me a sense of comfortableness, similar to what I get from my home. When I came across Joschi's Body Bodega, the studio immediately became my home practice away from home. I love Joschi himself, Monika, and all the teachers that have been carefully placed by the studio. Their knowledge of teaching on all levels that each of them possess is amazing. I love the studio so much that I decided to attend the Yoga Teacher Training program this winter. Even if you do not want to become certified to teach, I recommend this training just to deepen your practice. I am amazed how much knowledge I have consumed by all the wonderful people who work for the studio, and how it has helped me with my asana's and mental well-being. To say the very least, you must check out Joschi's Body Bodega. Come see for yourself how you will benefit, especially as a beginner, by experiencing a class with Joschi or one of the amazing teachers. If anyone knows how to make to you feel what yoga is...to unite the split between the mind and the body?they do?and you will definitely get to know and feel it here.

It gives me great joy to write a fabulous review about an amazing place, Joschi Body Bodega. Thanks to all those special folks working there that have helped me and continue to help me forget my personal selfishness, deepen my yoga knowledge and broaden my practice & mind more and more. Practice is the most important part and being able to do it with such a wonderful group of people and in such an amazing space is truly a gift. Joschi, Monika, Amy and Michael have inspired me in so many ways... to find peace and joy within myself and to share that enlightenment with all humanity. Thank you for being you and for sharing it with the world. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi

Pros: Great environment that leaves you with a floating feeling

Cons: A buzzer that makes me aware that my peaceful practice is coming to a close :(

My first class at Joschi's was almost a year ago; not only was I new to the studio, but I was totally new to yoga. I had prepared myself to be a little intimidated and overwhelmed, but found the exact opposite even on my first day. Monika greeted me (by name!), and Joschi was a warm and giving teacher -- pushing me to my limits while still making me feel comfortable and capable. Every day since has been as great as that first one. I've taken yoga & Pilates classes with almost all of the teachers -- each brings his / her own perspective to the practice, but the common thread is a commitment to create a fun, inviting, and nurturing environment (in addition to Joschi, be sure to try classes with Michael, Amy and Meg!) Even as the number of students grows, Joschi's studio continues to feel like a private oasis. I feel lucky to have found such a wonderful home for my practice. Come -- you won't be disappointed!

I started classes at Joschi almost a year ago and can't imagine my life without it. The environment is friendly and non-judgmental and the students and teachers couldn't be more positive and outgoing. After a long day of work and stress, going to Joschi just melts every annoyance and worry away. I highly recommend it!!

I'm quite new to yoga and was really interested in finding a studio that would cater to newbees like myself. In addition, I was looking for a studio where teachers were quite friendly and encourgaing. All of my needs are completely fullfilled at Joschi Body Bodega!!! Classes are quite amazing, never boring and challenging (but always within what your body can do during that practice). Monica always greets you with a smile and somehow always remembers every student's name when you walk in! Joschi is a wonderful instructor and you can appreciate his sense of humor during class too!!!

Finally found a workout that I ENJOY! I have been going to Joschi's pilates classes for about 2 months and I am hooked. It is truly a great workout that I look forward to and I have yet to push the classes aside. Joschi changes his pilates routine every class which makes all the classes unique and fun. The exercises work all the muscles groups and I can guarantee that is a TOTAL body work out. The studio is filled with sunlight, has a great aura and every class has GREAT music. Small plus but is one of the many reasons why I have come back week after week. I am now a pilates-holic!!!!

I'm not sure what I can add to all the fabulous reviews here, except to say that it's all true. Joschi is a fantastic studio with such a positive atmosphere. I've never loved to exercise, but the pilates classes here are so much fun and a GREAT workout! And everyone makes you feel so welcome. The owners, Monika and Joschi know everyone by name and treat everyone like family. And they're always open to new ideas and feedback from students.

The studio itself is beautiful and serene, with almost a spa-like atmosphere. Very different than the typical brightly-lit chaos you find in most gyms! It's also clean and well-maintained, with space for storing your yoga mat so you don't have to schlep it all over town. Now I look forward to going to pilates class!

I walk into Joschi's studio stressed and frazzled and my body in knots from sitting all day at my desk or running around the city. I leave serene and focused and my body feels like it has worked and released so much tension. All of the teachers have a perfect balance of attention to keeping the body moving with the breath, and the mind calm. Joschi's classes are energetic and his personality leaves me with laughter in my heart. Amy and Meg's classes are really inspiring. Erin's class has been so helpful in deepening my practice with her challenging flows. I could go on... This place is like no other. Monika, the owner, knows the names and class and teacher preferences of near every student who walks through the door. It makes me feel like I'm not just a face in the crowd. LOVE THIS STUDIO!

to my true gurus- Joschi. Amy, Michel and Monika.

Joschi has this unique ability to keep you engaged and pushes you to your limits without feeling as if you are being overworked. Every class brings something new - a new move, a new twist on an old move and fabulous music. I'm never bored and I feel like my body is constantly challenged. Plus everyone at Joschi is very friendly & helpful, you will completely feel welcomed while knowing you are in good hands.

Joschi Body Bodega is my 2nd home. A very warm and friendly environment with experienced teachers. I look forwarded to classes weekly. After a busy day you immediately start to decompress when you walk through the door. Since I've been taking classes here this past year I've learned a lot which makes me want to deepen the practice even more. I've found all the teachers to be very knowledgable. I highly recommend taking class at this studio.

I love this studio and am very grateful to have been able to practice here. The owners, Joschi and Monika, are wonderful and treat you like family. The space is a gorgeous environment to practice yoga. It's spotlessly clean and simple and serene - gorgeous hard wood floors and I absolutely love the ceiling. But what really makes this place sensational are the superb teachers who give their all to their students with love, patience and a great talent for conveying the beauty of yoga. The other students quickly become familiar faces. The studio is very welcoming and has a neat variety of classes that aren't available at the standard NYC studios.

Previous ratings have catapulted this place to 5 stars.
However, Monika's attitude level dissolves all those stars --- unless you have the $$$$ to flash, she is unyielding and has zero PR skills.
Save your stars for a more likeable person.

The most fantastic, very hip new Yoga studio in town has opened on 23rd between 6th and 7th. The owner/Yogi's name is Joschi. Trained in Yoga as well as dance, he is a true master with an almost hypnotic voice and a body to match. He is absolutely amazing! He has me doing things I never thought possible after my years of sport-related injuries!

I love Joschi's. This place, personally works for me. Joschi and Monika have created a space where Yoga and Pilates is learned and understood. Lately... I have been a little more into Pilates though love the mix. There is such personalized attention to all practitioners, that learing is as Joschi always says... "Meaningful." All of the instructors at Joschis', in my experience here are consistant in their teachings, even if there are a varied background. Now, there is an underlying factor that I dig.... even though you are learning... all of the teachers make you work and work means sweat. a quality I enjoy. As a big dude... I enjoy the results of the work as I am grateful to the encouragement of my teachers.

come on in and check it out. This is a beautiful thing

I love this studio, there's something magical about Joschi Body Bodega. The owners Joschi and Monika are wonderful and treat you like family. The teachers are superb and give you very personalized instruction. They seem to welcome everyone and encourage everyone to just do their best. The other students quickly become familiar faces. The atmosphere and teaching is serious enough that I find myself improving rapidly, but it remains playful and light so that I look forward to class every day. The studio has a neat variety of classes and the place is awesome with beautiful dark hardwood floors.

Okay, I've practiced at other NYC studios and glad to have found Joschi Body Bodega. Ambience is very zen - calming, peaceful. Yoga practices here work the body and quiet the soul (miraculous for a native NYer like me) b/c instructors are quirky, playful and challenging. Pilates here is new and exciting and I've taken over a year's worth of traditional Pilates classes. The exercises target parts I forgot I had. How do I know coming here is doing it for me internally and externally? I've repeatedly heard "Just what have you done to yourself, can it work for me?" The answer? YES!

This studio is the greatest balance of of peace and relaxation and physical challege I've ever experienced. Yoga is a very important part of my life and each teacher at this studio is SO giving with their instruction. Checking in with how the class is feeling in the beginning, consistant adjustments to make sure your practice is safe, reminding you of the importance of breath throughout your practice and lastly a challenging workout for mind AND body. I've just started the pilates classes offered there as well (which normally bore me) and they are so fun and creative (and boy can you feel it!). Then there is Monika, one of the owners at the front desk, who somehow knows every student's name! The people and the practice are THE BEST!

I walked into Joschi a couple of weeks ago and I just can't resist it anymore. The studio is absolutely gorgeous (and clean!!!) and the classes are by far the best I've experienced in a long time. I really love that every teacher has a slightly different approach, so it never gets boring and the people in the studio are just the nicest ever. They truly keep you motivated and I just have a great time in class. THANK YOU!
