We love Otter School! 2 of our 3 kids have learned to swim here and our newborn is next. We have been going Little Otter School for 4 years now, and we consider it to be a critical part of our children's learning. On a planet that is 3/4 water -- the earlier your children swim the better!

They have a great system to train their instructors and over the years we have been impressed with how the owners have infused their approach into their staff.

We have been at Little Otters for almost a year. It was a wait to get in...and so worth it! My daughter is just turning 2 and she can float on her back, swim about 6 feet, pick up sinkies, blow bubbles and crawl out of the pool! And she LOVES it. We drive 30+ minutes each way for a 30 minute class...that is how great it is!!

We love Little Otter! The strides my daughter has made in 2 months are amazing. She went from not wanting to put her head in, to blowing bubbles for ~10 seconds and swimming ~5ft.

I expected them to be expensive, but they are actually slightly less than our YMCA lessons (program member rate). We have a smaller class than at the Y (there are 2 in my daughter's class), the facilities are nicer and it's easier to watch her.

Unlike other reviewers, I feel she gets the full instruction time - they always start right on time, and the slide time is maybe 2 minutes at the end (and it IS instructional). We go on a weekday, perhaps weekends are more chaotic.

This is a really good swim school. We have had experiences at other schools and this one is by far the best! The lessons are well structured and fun. The baby class was a big hit. My child learned how to turn and grab the wall when he falls in and can swim underwater for 7 seconds! Their prices are about the same as others, maybe slightly higher, but well worth it. I would recommend them for sure!

I've been swimming with Little Otter Swim School from almost the time that they've opened. No other aquatics center has been able to offer not only the skills but also the enviroment. My children ask to go to swimming! They love their instuctors! I've been able to watch my oldest become a strong confindent swimmer. And when it come to my youngest I've never been so pleased. Not only that he's learning helpful skills but he's having a blast and I'm able to share this class with him. The front desk has been able to answer any questions that I may have and they've also have really tried to work with me on scheadualing since I have two youngsters. I look forward to continuing our classes and being part of the Little Otter family.

Little Otter is a great place to learn to swim. Staff and managers go out of their way to offer quality service. They really care about their little swimmers.

I actually got kicked out of Little Otters!! I am in utter shock right now and my mouth is hanging open.
For us, Little Otters has been going downhill in the past year. For one, they have increased their teacher student ratio 4:1 for the 3 year olds class beginner class, which used to be 3:1. They said with all the new enrollments, they felt it was time to do that. Yeah, way to make a buck Safety vs. Money. Guess which they chose?

I expressed my concerns about this and they basically said, Too bad.

The class is supposed to be a half hour. Not so....They start 2 minutes late and then they end 5 minutes early to go down the slide. That's 7 minutes of actual instruction that is shaved off my time and my money. I

Well, I get a phone call from the director/owner today. I guess the woman at the desk complained about me and she actually said I think it would be best if I refund you your money and you not return. I was going to stay until June since that was when DS would be starting up at Charlotte Swim Academy and I wanted him to continue without a gap in time. (I don't want him being afraid again if too much time lapses). She said, No,it's not a choice! You are obviously not happy here and we don't want you coming back if you bad mouth our program!

Wow! What is this---a communist nation where I get in trouble for speaking my mind! I said this to her and she replied, Well, we are a private company and have the right to do this.

My child has attended this swim school since they opened and has learned so much during that time. She has had the same teacher the entire time. Fees are a bit pricey, but the ratio of child to teacher is smaller than other schools I checked on. Classes are only 30 minutes long, and that is not nearly long enough for children to get the amount of personalized instruction that they need. With the maximum of 4 children in a class, that gives each child a maximum of a little over 7 minutes of individual swimming with the teacher. It ends up being less though due to general instruction and other issues that may occur. The pool itself is clean, roomy, and warm. Facilities are a bit bare boned, but more and more have been added and are being added as time goes on (ex coloring area for waiting children, swimsuits shopping area). The staff seem to genuinely care about feedback from parents and want to improve. I have heard more than one parent comment about the 30 minute classes though, and have never heard feedback from staff about that.

PROS: Teacher moved with kids when they went up to the next level
CONS: Classes are only 30 minutes long - not long enough for thorough instruction
