I never expected to find such a well-maintained, peaceful place in NYC. This facility is large and nice. It has space for basketball, gymnastics, ice hockey, bowling, golf, sailing, ice skating, soccer, etc. Surprisingly, it wasn't crowded with many people. You can also book private events there for things such as birthday parties.

This is a destination, not a street-corner drop-in place. You can spend the whole day there, and lord knows I have. Its remoteness from streetlife and public transportation is actually a perverse advantage: if it were easy to get to, it would be overrun and filthy.

I'd heard about sports performance, but I didn't really know what it was, so when I checked out Chelsea Piers BlueStreak, I was more than impressed! During the tour, the staff showed me the hockey treadmill where athletes skate wearing their own skates, and that was neat to see, but since my daughter's a soccer player and my son is a basketball player, I was more interested in the rest of the facility. It also has 2 running treadmills which can go faster (up to 28 mph and 40% incline!) than regular treadmills and on here is where my kids have been training. Sarah (my daughter) has improved her coordination and strength tremendously...she no longer gets knocked off the ball so easily during her games! And Ben, my son, has improved his vertical jump, so naturally his rebounding ability has drastically improved.

I highly, highly recommend Chelsea Piers BlueStreak. The coaches are fantastic, and the training WORKS!!!

Chelsea Piers just opened its newest facility in May and offers an innovative way to improve sport specific performance. They have treadmills that reach 28 mph at 40 degree inclines. If you??re a hockey player, you??ll train on a hockey treadmill in your hockey skates as well as use a synthetic ice area to practice skills, including puck handling. We all know how precious ice time is and Chelsea Piers BlueStreak provides a great way to get in additional training. Check out their website for information on other sport specific programs.

This is a great spa to get a massage at! I like the deep tissue and the swedish massages. The spa is quiet and peaceful and every masseuse I've had has done a good job.

This Health Club and sporting center on the West Side of Manhattan offers great, modern facilities, including workout equipment, running and swimming areas, as well as a golf driving range. The center is immense, with a diverse clientele across many backgrounds and levels of experience. The only drawback is the location--it's quite a hike from the nearest subway.

PROS: Excellent facilities, lots to offer
CONS: Poor location
