Went for Saturday brunch and was very disappointed with the service. We arrived at 2:40 for brunch which was supposed to end at 3pm. It didn't seem very busy AT ALL but we twiddled our thumbs waiting to give our food order until 2:55pm at which point the waitress told us that brunch was over and the computer wouldn't let her put in a brunch order. About 45 mins later, my friend's veggie burger with cheese arrived without cheese and with fries that tasted like they'd been sitting out for an hour. I chose not to order food because I wanted brunch. Then our waitress disappeared for a few hours. Upon return she offered to discount the burger 20% and got my friend a drink on the house. So that was nice at least. I however, was offered nothing, despite their poor service screwing me out of that damn omelette I was craving.

On the plus side, the Bloody Mary's were good.

Pros: good Bloody Marys, nice patio

Cons: terrible, slow service on a not so busy Saturday afternoon

I enjoy Opals outdoor patio, beer selection, and some of their food. I would probably frequent the restaurant more often if it wasn't for one major issue. You see, Opals has yet to realize we are in the age of credit/debit cards. The servers claim that Opals has a "no separate check policy". Being that we usually go for happy hour after work, this becomes a problem come time to close out. One person always gets stuck trying to figure out how much each person owes. This is very stressful and turns an enjoyable, carefree night into a stressful mess. I've worked in the service industry in the past and realize it might be a pain for the waiter/waitress but it is definitely appreciated by the clientele. My co-workers and I (along with my fiances co-workers) choose not to go to Opals just to avoid this situation.

Pros: Beer Selection, Outdoor Patio

Cons: No seperate checks

I've been going here since it opened and I just love it. The patio is gorgeous and the food is great for pub grub. Have the peppercorn fries for sure with ranch. So tasty. And the service can be slow at times, but the people serviing are very entertaining.

Pros: Patio, Food

One of the best outside bars in south A. Absolutely overpriced beer selection! Would probably recommend for a happy hour or if you are entertaining.

Pros: Great deck

Cons: Overpriced beer

The deck outside is good in spring and fall. Nice atmosphere in S. Austin. Sometimes crowded, so go on slow nights earlier in the week. Have the fries with ranch/dill dressing on them. Yum. Good beer selection.

Message from Opal Divine's Penn Field

Opal Divines American Restaurant & Bar located at Penn Field in South Austin opened its doors in May of 2005. It is located just one block south of St. Edwards University and one block north of Ben White Blvd also known as Hwy 71. We are also just five minutes south of downtown.

Having the largest music stage and deck of the three locations, Penn Field has been the place in South Austin to witness some fantastic sunsets and great music events. We also have free wi-fi if you would like to bring along the laptop and surf the mighty internet. Gather up your friends and come enjoy the freedom to be yourself. We welcome you with open arms.

There are three locations in Austin, but the Soco location is my favorite. Bring your kids, bring your dogs, bring your friends. The interior of Opal Divine's is cool and spacious; the outside deck is shaded and misted, making the picnic…
