We have tried so hard to love this place as we are locals and love wine, but the proprietor does everything he can to make you want to leave. He truly could not care less if you enjoyed your time or hated it and when you ask a glass of water you get a warm glass with no ice (probably from the bathroom). Nobody knows about wine or cares, and when a machine runs out of a wine it is nothing but an inconvenience for them. I have been to this place at least 7 times trying to love it but I am sick of the horrible service and lack of caring by the owner and refuse to ever go back. Not worth it!

This place has a nice look inside, but there is much to be desired for in terms of their service and management. A small group of us went there for a late dinner on Friday. We were seated fairly quickly, but 30 minutes into our stay, we were notified that the kitchen was closed. Ironically, we were handed a menu before we were told they were not serving food. The place was crowded, and with only three employees on hand, they were noticeably understaffed, which contributed to the miscommunication I am sure. Whatever the case, when we voiced our concern over the mishap to the manager, he was confrontational and altogether unpleasant in his demeanor. It will probably be a while before I give this place another shot.

We have enjoyed CSC since it opened, taking a small group there on Tuesdays for half price wine tastings. However, when we recently visited, we were greeted with attitude by the OWNER. Telling us we "had to move" and that we couldn't pay separately and the grumbles and rude comments went on and on. Paying separately for our tastings was something we had always done before and was the preferred method since they handed out a card to each person to keep track of their tab. And it is after all - a bar! I could understand if we were hogging a table. But we are bringing business on an otherwise slow night - hence the half price promotion. Anyway, it was a long night of slow service and attitude. Mark, I don't think this will work with the Vienna crowd. We are taking our business to Bazin's.

I've been to Church Street Cellars a few times recently for the wine dinners and they were absolutely amazing. The food was awesome and the wine pairings were absolutely spectacular!!!! Some of the best wine dinners I've been to in a long time.

I used to dream about going to Church Street Cellars for a nice dinner and wine. After last night, I don't think I'll be back. The staff obviously can't handle a crowd. There was the owner, manager, and a teenage waitress to handle the packed house. We ordered the food and was told by the waitress that "It would be awhile, the cook is new". There were 7 in our party and each dish came out as it was ready, about 7-8 minutes in-between each. Many of our small plates were inedible. I sent back both of my plates.

We called the manager over and explained and he was pretty defensive, blaming the new chef. He did take our food off of our bill, but with the lack of service and poor management of the place, I doubt I'll be back.

It is a shame because I can walk there!!

We loved the wine and the great choices with a variety of: a taste, half glass or whole glass. However a couple of taps with bottles that had just been replaced were incorrectly calculating the amounts for the wines. When we asked the manager about this miscalculation he said "NO ONE ELSE HAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS!" Very surprising since I asked him if the Cellar could be rented out for a group party soon after we entered the establishment. Because of the manager's poor attitude, we have no desire to come back to this place, much less spend a lot of money and hold a party at the Church Street Cellars.

This place is so much fun! This is a wine bar with a centrally located "table" where everyone goes to get their vino. You walk in, get a card (similar to Dave and Busters), get a glass, and then start filling your glass. You choose from about 30-40 wines and can have a taste (1 oz pour), 1/2 glass or full, each priced appropriately. When you're done, you go pay the balance on the card. It's great. No waiting around for servers and a cheap way to try a bunch of different wines (especially if you go on Tues which is 1/2 price night). The food is great too. Go early because the place is super small and frequently reaches capacity with standing room only. Excellent!

Church Street Cellars is not only a retail wine store, it also serves wine by the glass, bottle or even by the ounce. It has 32 bottles on an enomatic dispensing machine which keeps wine at the correct temperature and dispenses in increments of 1 ounce, half glass or full glass of wine. You can also order any of the 850 bottles on the walls to be decanted or chilled and served on location. A rotating menu of artisan cheeses and charcuterie plus fine pates can also be selected to enjoy with your wine selections.
