My first and last time at this salon. Everything started smoothly, but the end result was below par. My stylist was the owner, Tiffany, and she was non-chalant about my care. The color she suggested turned out too dark, the cut was mullet-ish and I give myself better blow-drys with my left hand. Ki-blah-na

Disappointed, facial was just ok, when I walked in receptionist(s)all texting, did not even know the name of the person giving me the facial. The facial scale one to ten 5. Moved here from Bethesda and Blu Water Day Spa so much better. I don't think I will go there again.

I've had my hair done by Angela for a couple years - color and cut. She's wonderful. I'm always completely happy with my hair. And she has the best personality of any stylist I've worked with. She's totally nice, and engages in true, thoughtful conversation. (It seems the stylists I've always found before were nice, but they just talked about the drama in their lives all the time. :) )

The rest of the staff is very nice. They run basically on time - granted I'm usually there before noon. And they've have been understanding with me! On my first visit, just as I arrived, I got a call that my nanny and baby girl were locked out of the house! So I had to split - and cancel my appointment with no advance notice! They were just concerned about my situation, and never made me feel bad for a second. I appreciated that!

Let me just clarify that everyone has their own opinions, and this is just MINE.
1. I've been coming to kibana for waxing since spring 2008. Everyone has a different way of waxing, and everyone uses different WAXES. So there HAVE been times where I've been to Kibana and gotten a GREAT CLEAN wax, and there are other times where it will HURT a little bit more and whoever the waxer is has to take the tweezers to me (YIKES). I do like one person more then another. If asked I would say Jai, but that is ME.
2. I live 10 mins away from downtown Silver Spring. I've been to all the "in & out " Nail shops, nothing comes CLOSE. I promise, you won't be sorry. The pedicures are done so well , your roughed up feet will be soft for weeks! My polish lasts for over one week on my hands (even with doing filing, chores, & cooking).
3. This place is so relaxed and CLEAN. NO nail smells. NO dirty clippers used on the client before you.Everyone knows most of the people that walk in the door. I can trust that Kibana is not trying to sell me services that I don't need, as well as products I don't need.
4. I even get my hair cut there, not as often as I should, but I've been there twice for cuts and gotten two different people. First time was with Amy, second time was with Angela. Both stylist were fine. Both were on TIME.
5. I've never had a problem with time with Kibana. They've worked with me by squeezing me in the book or calling me to let me know if someone is running behind (which HAPPENS in the real world).
BOTTOM LINE.
KIBANA IS A PLACE I'LL BE RETURNING TO.

Kibana waxing- worst bikini wax of my life. I thought I would get a good wax based on kibana's reviews, but I must have gotten a different lady or something. I am used to a woman who waxes me clean as a whistle in 15 minutes flat, but the woman who took care of me took 30+ minutes and from the feel of it seemed to be ripping the hairs out one at a time and doubled waxed at certain spots. I would have gladly paid twice the price to get things over with sooner. Ouch!

Kibana nails- I love this place for the nice layout, clean, the location& location. the $60 manicure and pedicure at Kibana is not bad, but I rather spend $ 45 to get the "Custom combination" at Identity salon & spa located on Georgia Ave. next to the Woodside Deli and 16th st, their pedicure with the chair massage, leg massage, neighborhood friendly services is far better. I would try the signature combo at Identity for $80 the next time I go-the lady sitting next to me seems to enjoy her hot stone pedi!

Kibana's hair is good. I will go back to max again.

When I went to Kibana for a haircut, I had to wait for 35 to 40 minutes after my original appointment time for a stylist named Tiffany to finally start cutting my hair. It was interesting to me because it was in the middle of the day and she came rushing in through the door, almost half an hour late. To me that was very unprofessional. Shouldn't she already be there if she knew she had an appointment? She apologized for running late but 10 minutes into the hair wash, I noticed her getting started on another cilent's color. And after the wash, I was sitting at her station for another 10-15 minutes.
Tiffany needs to prioritize her clients. She can't make the client wait and work around her schedule, we have other obligations to get to. She needs to look at her book, know when a client is coming and most importantly, BE ON TIME!!!! Why even make an appointment when I don't get the time I want anyway???The lady who shampooed my hair was wonderful and everyone else was great, offering me something to drink and so on. But Tiffany is the reason why I'm never coming back.

First of all, I am very happy with my hair cut. It's hard to find someone who does a good job cutting and shaping curly hair, and Ian definitely fits this bill. I'm totally happy with my cut. He was even willing to give cut bangs--I've had stylists refuse to do this for me. Second of all, part of the experience is the shampoo. Frankly, after the scalp and shoulder massage that was part of that experience, I didn't really care if my hair even got cut. That alone was worth the price of the hair cut. Admittedly, I really needed the pampering...but I haven't had treatment like that anywhere, even Elizabeth Arden. Thirdly, Jai, and absolutely not least. I was lucky enough to rediscover her at Kibana, after regularly partaking in her services at Tammy Nail on Capitol Hill. My feet are embarrassingly bad in the winter and I always leave with sandal-perfect heels and toes. Definitely spring for the spa pedicure...worth the extra $$. But her exceptional talent is waxing. She's does fantastic Brazilians (at least at Tammy Nail), however, she really does wonders with eyebrows. Very neat and thorough AND best of all, whatever she put on them after the waxing did the trick because I didn't suffer any breakouts like normal. I will be back.

I've been going to Kibana for about 2 years now and am never going back.

The second to last haircut I received was just terrible. I had to wait 35 minutes past my appointment time, and when it was time to cut my hair...the guy wasted no time. It took him about 20 mins and he didn't even dry it. He claimed he wanted me to try this new Bumble & Bumble product for curly hair and he didn't want to dry my hair because he wanted me to get the "full effect".

While he was cutting my hair he kept talking about this girl and how she was basically an extra in an upcoming movie and how he just finished cutting her hair and was going to cut her parents hair after he was done with mine.

While on my way out to pay full price for this crappy incomplete haircut, he was talking to the g-list "celebrity" and her parents...he apparently didn't waste any time to ensure they would receive their haircut at the time of their appointment.

So, the reason I am writing is because of the latest incident with this SAME GUY! I've been trying to grow my hair out and wanted something to make it a more fuller and bouncier. (in the winter it just goes flat for some reason) I didn't necessarily want a perm, but wanted to know if there was something similar out there that would give this type of effect without having to put curlers and such in my hair every night. I figured people are spending $500-$700 on straightening their hair, there's got to be something to curl your hair.

So, I asked the girl at the front desk if there was someone I could talk to inquire about such a product or service. After waiting 25 minutes, I heard this guy say, "oh my god, are you serious, tell her I'll talk to her when 1983 comes around again. Yeah, I'll talk to her when I'm done." TOTALLY embarrassed, I look at the girl at the front desk and calmly said, ??I'm leaving?.

I could not believe a customer cannot go into a salon and inquire about a service without being embarrassed like I was. I didn't necessarily want a perm...even told the girl at the front desk what I was looking for. On top of this, there were other customers in the salon...so not only did this guy say this loudly, the whole salon heard him too.

I cannot believe an owner would put up with such an unprofessional employee...

This place is great. I come here for the pedicures, and I have to say that they are best in town. The place is also very clean, each client gets sterile pouches with a clean cuticle pusher and nippers! How great is that? Hands downs, you have to get the Kibana Spa pedicure and no matter how bad your feet are, Jay gets them as smooth as the day you started walking!! I SWEAR!

I have been looking for a long time (a year) to find a good, sanitary place for Brazillian waxes, and Kibana is the place. Jay was amazing, and made EVERYTHING disappear. Not too painful either. Next, I am going to try a haircut with Max- we will see how that goes! Great place, clean, upscale, relaxing!

Today I visited Kibana for the first time and had my hair cut by Max. Although I was hesitant to part with much length (I love having long locks), Max worked his magic by artfully and meticulously thinning out my entire thick head of hair (which took way more time than any other hair dressers have ever invested in me). Now, my long locks have more personality, feel light as a feather and are silky smooth!

A few months back I was in Kibana for a Brazilian bikini wax, my first ever! It wasn't as bad as everyone said it was going to be. Ask for Jay, she's brilliant with the waxing. The space is beautiful, very zen and airy. The staff is helpful, Allie definitely knows skin, and can tackle all/any problem area I had. I've heard that Max is realy great with cuts and that if you have curly hair Ian is the man for you. They offer tons of other services, and I think they're open 7 days a week!
