This service is AWESOME. My dog has genetically bad teeth and I am not good about doing daily dental cleaning. I have been able to drastically reduce the number of times my dog has been recommended for an anesthesia cleaning by getting regular cleanings with Betsy for the last 5 years. Betsy is very responsible about referring you to a vet when she spots a problem. She won't work on your pet is she sees sign of infection.
Miraculously, my dog adores her! She really has a way with the 4 legged beings.

Don't waste your money. Betsy is doing a very unprofessional and plain dangerous job on your pet. The quality of her work aside, there is no sign of antiseptics or sterilizing her tools. So she is moving from pet to pet, with dirty tools and baby wipes (!), getting under pets' gums and making them bleed. That can't be safe! Would you want your dentist to use the same tools on you that he used on all of his previous patients? Plus, my dog was absolutely terrified of her, so much for the serene experience someone was talking here about. As for the quality - I'd compare it with you using a toothpick. A bit here a bit there, tons of rot and tartar left behind because my dog had no patience to sit still and Betsy had no skill to make it sit still. So she just gave up and called it good with half of the mouth left untouched. All in all, $180 later and my dog's mouth right there where we started plus bleeding gums... I would not recommend this service and would never use it again!

Business Response:

I'm sorry that you were unhappy with the cleaning. I sterilize every tool that I use and have NEVER used the same dirty tool on a pet. I sterilize my tools at home at the end of the day. I wish whoever this is would have called me instead of posting untruths about my services.

K-9 dental does an outstanding job. They refer you to a veterinarian if a tooth needs to be pulled or if there is an infection. They are extremely knowledgeable and thorough. I have used them for over 4 years now and have used similar services in CA for over 6 years. I lost my cat Berry, to a teeth cleaning procedure done with anesthesia by a veterinarian. She had all recommended blood tests done before the procedure and never had any health problems before. The emergency vet said that cats are extremely sensitive to anesthesia.

I stumbled across this wonderful woman's business a few months ago and was truly amazed at her service with my little Gordy. IT was obvious to me that the first time I took him to the vet that I would have to find an alternative to the care that the vet could offer me. I'm not saying anything negative about the vet services out there, except that i don't believe in anesthesia. They do offer wonderful life saving services. But in order to keep my pet around for as long as I can, anesthesia is not an option, especially when it comes to the mouth. K9 Dental gains your pets trust, assesses the mouth before she puts her magic ways to work. If she believes that there is any issues with your pets mouth, she refers you to visit your current Vet. Her prices are very reasonable, much less than what a vet will charge you, and she only does house calls. I asked her why she doesn't have her own space and she said because it was to stressful for her clients ( meaning the pet ) to travel to and from. She really does put her clients first. I've referred many of my friends to her, and will continue to do so. Anyone who cares about lengthening the life of there dog or cat, should definitely check out K9 feline dental. You add so much to your dog or cats life by not putting them under the knife with anesthesia.

NOTE: The following is general information for consumers, and NOT a review of the above business.
The pet dental cleaning (the removal of calculus and plaque) done by unlicensed persons without supervision by a veterinarian is illegal in Oregon, and some claims made by people doing the dental cleaning are deceptive. It is fraudulent to claim that the cleaning done by an unsupervised lay person is the same as professional dental cleaning at a veterinary practice. While cleaning the surface of the teeth may improve appearance and sometimes helps to improve the animal's breath, underlying problems will be masked. It is possible to damage the enamal surface of the teeth and accelerate the build up of plaque and tartar. In general, the superficial cleaning causes a false sense of the pet's health, and the consumer does not see the need for regular dental examination by a veterinarian. It takes years for the neglect of teeth and gums to surface, and by the time the consumer sees the effect of the neglect it is too late.
California has cracked down on these businesses in their state. Ask yourself this, Would you go to an unsupervised, untrained, and unlicensed person for your own, or your children's, dental care?
The Oregon Veterinary Medical Examining Board is the state agency that licenses and regulates veterinary medicine in this state. This information is provided in the interest of protecting consumers and their pets. Please contact me if you have any questions.
