WARNING - If Employees, particularly Doctors, leave a MedSPA RUN!!!
(Update OCT 2008 - I found out what happened talking to a creditor as part of the bankruptcy. The former owner kept ordering supplies with Dr. Gary Vela's DEA number after he left (this is illegal), didn't tell the nurse when Dr. Vela left until days later (illegal...nurses work under doctors and can't fly solo even as a practitioner in MD). In addition to this she purchased equipment with Dr. Vela's DEA number AND she purchased and financed these under his name after he was no longer there (illegal and forgery). When the lender (CAP1, I believe) found out they went to collect. Eventually she closed hoping to refinance and license under a new doctor but no one would have anything to do with it). ...in the meantime she was continuing to sell to customers and take money for packages.

What is it that salespeople say? Oh right... You didn't break the law unless you get caught. ...same stuff drug down our economy...

My orginial post (AUG 2008) -

Over several years I went to Radiance (okay, a year and a half, LOL). Initially they were a high class joint and I really loved going to the SPA to get my girls weekend off and pretty up for my hubby.

The owner was a sweetheart and was a young pretty 30-something and had retired from the same line of business (sales) my husband was in. The first doctor, Lynn was a sweetie and was a beautiful woman. I saw less of her but there were 2 Kathleens there and both treated me nicely and always said to call them Kathleen. One was a doctor and the other was a nurse. The doctor Kathleen was stunningly beautiful and was in her 30's and said she had botox and lazers herself. The nurse Kathleen was very pretty and was a young 20-something who needed no work.

They told me that I was beautiful and they would help take care of some of the fine lines everyone gets and I was a young looking 40-something to begin with, so that was sweet.

The Botox was nice and the treatments felt like a little pin-prick. The lazer room got really really hot and had poor ventilation. I had one peel but really didn't like it even though it did help out along with botox.

The problem is that Lynn and the two Kathleens left and they had this salesperson that was not a doctor or nurse telling me what I needed. The lazer treatment started to give me a sunburn and hurt where it didn't when their nurse did it.

Dr. Gary (Vela) told me he could do some work. I am a beautiful woman and refuse to go under a knife. I run and have the body of a 20 year old but the sun and the beach took their toll. I don't need work and he was offensive in trying to upsell me.

The owner didn't return my call, but I didn't appreciate a non-doctor or non-nurse telling me what I needed and I certainly did not like the new old lady that they hired.

The pushy saleslady pushed me into buying a follow-up package for my armpits and my bikini line as well as Botox, telling me I had a year to use it and the discount was a great deal. It was a great deal IF they would have stayed in business. Needless to say that a few months later they were closed and going bankrupt. The other Radiances would not honor my treatments when this one closed and no one answered my calls from their office or their corporate office.

I am waiting for the bankruptcy information to see if I will get anything. My husband and I have another year to file suit against corporate Radiance and we may just do that if we get nothing back.

They are a bunch of theives!

The outgoing message on their answering machine said they were closed for two weeks while they transitioned into a "premier" location and would reopen May 7th. That was a lie! They never reopened because they had actually filed for bankruptcy. Here is the contact info for the attorney: Craig L. Holcomb, Esquire 240-453-9600 There is also a Trustee listed. The Trustee is: Cheryl Rose, Esq. 50 W. Edmonston Drive Suite 600 Rockville, MD 20852-1254. I would suggest you contact them to let them know what you are owed. You may not receive anything, but it is worth a shot.

I was invited to an open house wine and cheese party. I was told if I am interested to get there wonderful service that they have a deal with capital one for 0% interest rate. I filled out a form, they told me I was approved for $2500.00 and I can start the treatment whenever I wanted. I told them I will not be in town for 3 weeks. When I returned from a three weeks trip. I received a bill from Capital one for $2500.00.I called Charlotte Streidel and was told that it was a mistake and she will make sure all will be refunded to Capital one by 7th of May.Well, 7th of May I got another bill, I could not find them. If you have any info please get in touch. Thank you and God bless.

I'm a 36 year old female and started noticing fine lines and dark spots around my face. My visit was very helpful and I see great results on my skin. She (shade) took more time to educate me about my skin condition and available treatments, then my dermatologist. My Dr. spent only 5 mintutes with me and sent me home with a prescrition drug, where she took 30 minutes to do a skin analysis with a machine and educated me about the condition. Overall, I see a big change and next I'm going for my Laser hair removal.

Charges are overly excessive. They irresponsibly adviced my daughter to discontinue her acne treatment to undertake their Cosmelan treatment at a cost of $1,200. to only aggravate her condition. The staff is very polite and willing to accomodate the client. However, Charlotte the owner, refused to reimburse me for cancelling the second treatment "cancellations are not refunded". Before going to this spa, do yourself a favor and check with other dermatologist or doctors in the area. This spa once they collect your money, they don't care if they worsen your condition, they use waivers as a shield to act irresponsibly with their clientele.
Any hair salon in Bethesda offer skin treatment at a more reasonable price, without deceiving their customers to steal their money.
