We hired Nathan Moses and with preferred home builders to do an addition to our home in Encino, We were promised high quality finished construction but what we got with Preferred was an office staff who never knew what was going on and very low quality construction.

When the job was completed we contacted Nathan and preferred about our list consisting of the exterior stucco which was cracking and peeling off, our closet door which was falling apart, the closet system which fell down, the laundry door that fell down, the hole in our laundry room wall, no caulk around our baseboards, nails popping back through the walls in the master bedroom and bathroom a new bathtub faucet that leaked from the minute it was installed. Now after the work has been completed the grout has come out on the floor of our kitchen, the tiles are cracking and coming up, now the entire kitchen floor has to be removed and done the correct way.

I contacted Tamir Pinhas (the owner) and after listening to him argue and yell at me that he was a reputable contractor the conversation ended without any offer from him to have preferred correct their completely low quality work, I gave up.
The cost to correct Preferred Home Builder??s (The Friendly Contractor) work will be yet another added expense that I will have to pay for myself.
The bottom line is that they sold us a High quality finished construction job but delivered a very low quality finished product, as of the moment I am writing this we have discovered that our tile in the kitchen is cracking and popping up, and we now have the drywall around the tub in the bathroom is dissolving and opening up due to improper installation.
There are so many more issues than I can list.
This company does not take pride in their work and has cut every corner in order to make more profit, I have spoken to both Nathan Moses and Tamir Pinhas but the only thing they did was yell and argue.

This is completely unacceptable and you should be aware that this company has no concern about honesty or standing behind their work.

Buyer Beware

This outfit delivered very uneven results. They did a MBR bath remodel for us. They handled the heavy work well, like the demolition part. After that, they engaged some questionable subcontractors and were very unreliable on the final detail and finish. On the good side, they were responsive, and came back repeatedly until things were fixed. On the sad side, they over-promised and their project manager (son of the owner, I think) was too young to deliver solid customer service -- he wanted to argue a lot. Older staff came in to make it good, but it just got to be too much of a hassle. Be careful what you ask them to do (they really can't handle design or more sophisticated work), and keep it simple.

After a recommendation from a fellow church member, we hired Preferred to do a major kitchen remodel. My sister in law is an architect and I, myself, have an architecture background, so we designed to kitchen together; she producing a detailed blue print. Into the project, it became clear that PHB's head foreman could not read a blue print. The measurements were off, so I had to keep checking them with my own measuring tape to ascertain that the windows and doors would be in the right place. Instead of working with me the foreman took it as an insult and stormed off. I should've been the one getting mad.

Eventually, the work got "finished", but I had deep concerns about the quality of work. Not long after they left, I realized that the dishwasher water was draining from the aerator by the sink...the workers had not installed the hoses correctly, so I had to fix that. The molding has been separating from the ceiling and the cement/stucco around the new door and windows are cracking and crumbling. Not having the stomach to deal with them, I avoided calling them until the cement and stucco started crumbling around the new door. (Tom can be extremely nice when you do things his way; if you bring up a concern, then he starts getting defensive, using crazy, illogical analogies and yelling if you challenge what he says or is willing to do.) I called them to remedy the above issues, and Tom says that one can't expect the car manufacturers to replace used tires...well, they asked me to send them pictures of it to see if "they might be able to do something".

To anyone having dealt with them, I advise you to contact the Contractor's Licensing Board to file a complaint if PHB refuses to correct their faulty work, which is what I'll do if they don't fix it. CLB will investigate, and if they find legitimate concerns, they'll issue PHB a warning to fix, or they can take away their license. Or I'm beginning to wonder if there are enough homeowners burned by this company, that a class-action suit can be brought against them.

I hope this was helpful.

I have never experienced a contractor that didnt take advantage of me. Tom Pinhas and his entire crew are respectful, responsible and ethical. My experiences in the past have all left my believing that ethical contractor is an oxymoran. Tom Pinhas and everyone at Preferred Home Builders restored my hope that honesty, fairness and integrity in construction work does exist. I highly recommend this company and I intend to call upon Tom and his crew for all future work that needs to be done on my home.

This was our 3rd experience with Tom & Preferred. Once again, Tom gave us a "guaranteed" start and end date which they once again hit perfectly. Again, no changes from his original quote. Tom literally held our hand as we picked out tile, travertine, and granite. We probably called Tom no less than 25 times from the stores we went to without him to pick out plumbing and fixtures. Not once was there ever a hint of "stop calling me" from Tom. The workers we had at our house almost became part of our family for a couple weeks because they were so easy to speak with and so accommodating to ALL of our questions and concerns. We received calls from the office just to let us know what progress to expect to be done on that day. The workers took exceptional care of covering all parts of our room so as to limit the amount of dust. As Tom promised us from the day he 1st looked at our bathroom - we now have the "nicest bathroom" in our neighborhood.

For my small one-room remodel, this outfit messed up about everything that could be messed up. Lack of required knowledge, poor communication, and not doing what they said they were going to do.

The worst part was that they did not mask off the rest of my house, so the dust and dirt from the remodel wreaked havoc on my other rooms. Cost me plenty afterwards to hire people to come in and clean up, replace ruined stuff, and re-do some of Preferred's remodel so it was up to standard.

They seriously need to learn how to do a proper grout line where the wall tile meets the tub. And not destroy the rest of your house while working.

Cons: Not satisfactory knowledge or workmanship

They were on time and within our budget. They did a good job of keeping us informed as each stage was started and what to expect next. I feel they could have done just a bit more in this area by making sure I had the name and contact number of the sub contractor and how long they would be working, when they would show up, etc. The man who made our cabinet did outstanding work! They were very responsive to our unexpected delays and made sure they did all they committed to even though they had to come back after most of the work was done. Great job. I would hire them again for future work and highly recommend them to others.

Preferred Builders were a joy to work with. Ariel was so helpful and came up with some terrifc ideas. The pricing was very reasonable as well. They were clear in the planning stages and followed through on everything. Even the smallest questions and concerns were met with a very prompt response. The staff, from the office to the crew on site, were terrific. Our bathroom is beautiful! We would definately use them again!

Nathan, the sales manager, arrived promptly and interviewed us thoroughly. In the end, he was well aware of our needs.our progect was in a lot of aspects very complicated and we needed sombody very detail oriented to walk us through it.(involving framing, custom cabinetry, granite counters, tile work, and painting).
preferred builders has a exellent team of workers.
they arrived every day at 8 o'clock and left around 5pm.at the end of each day they cleaned up and left our house like a pharmacy.(unheard of).they are really neat and professional.
Nathan was the consummate professional and was dedicated to doing a great job. This dedication to service did not waver throughout the entire process. Nathan met us at different stores to help us pick out the plumbing supplies and tile, and the work started on the date and time that was promised.
the end result is just amazing, our new kitchen is stunning and the addition look like a perfect match to our house.
we would highly recomend them to anybody that considering home remodeling, they are realy one of a kind, and we can confidently say that after speaking to 6 different construction companies.
In this world, where contractors are dishonest and unreliable, Preferred Builders and nathan are a refreshing change!

I'm very demanding. I was worried that because Preferred built so quickly that they'd move on before I was satisfied with the finish work. However Preferred went out of their way to satisfy my concerns. Even as I write this, Preferred has one final issue with the front window of my house that has been complicated to correct -- and Preferred is on the case. I have no doubt that it will be dealt with to my satisfaction. They have earned my trust, and I would recommend Preferred to anyone.

We are so happy with our beautiful addition, 3 new bathrooms and remodel.
Tom tour keen eye for the details truly will be appreciates for years to come. The archways, the stone patterns, the built in cabinets and the numerous other details have turned our house into a home.
Jose (the formen) and the crew had pride in their work and showed much respect for me and our home. I found that from plumbers, electric and stone/tile crew I was allways in good hands.
I will miss my daily talks with Limor (project manager). SHe allways was one step ahead in planning and when an issue arose she worked tirelessly to get the solution, from getting inspections scheduled to the final touches i couls allways count on Limor.
We would like to thank all Preferred team.

I called their number and set an appoitment with Tom, the owner, who met with me the same evening, at the site and went to work immediately. I will not go into details; suffice to say that I was very pleasantly surprised with him, his company and their professionalism every step of the way.
I recommend without reservation for any remodeling, upgrading, new construction or anything else you need.

My husbend and I selected Preferred Home Builders to design and build a two suite (includeing new full bathroom) for my mother to live in. The project included an addition of a bathroom, an expansion of an existing room and the conversion of a garage port in to a new room. Our primary goals were to make sure that the job did not look like an addition, and that the new suite was functional and comfortable.... we achive those goals.
My husbend and I have done several re-model projects in the past, and I must say that this was one of the smoothest and most enjoyable re-model jobs that we have ever experienced. The crew was professional, hardworking and very clean. The office stuff was supportive, very well prepared and very reasonable when it came to changes and modifications...The final product is beautiful.

What we actually got was an office staff who never knew what was going on and extremely low quality poor construction. When the job was completed we contacted Nathan and preferred about our punch list which consisted of the exterior stucco cracking and peeling off, our closet door which was falling apart, the closet system which fell down, the laundry door that fell down, a hole in our laundry room wall, no caulk around our baseboards, nails popping back through the walls in the master bedroom, the grout on the tile floors was cracking and breaking out, a new bathtub faucet which leaked from the minute it was installed and nails and trash that the crew buried in our yard, there are so many more issues than I can list. It took several months of arguing to get them to correct some of the problems and they only did these because I filed a complaint with Service Magic, the company that gave me the referral. I contacted Tamir (the owner) but after a conversation about the issues with the poor construction his company provided, he took no responsibility and made no offer to correct his company??s poor construction, we have spent a lot of our time and money correcting the issues caused by preferred Home Builder??s low quality work and now we will be paying more to have our tile floors removed and redone the correct way.

Now the grout has come out on the floor of our kitchen and the tiles are cracking and coming up.

Pros: None

Cons: Would Never Reccomend

.

They started the job on time and finished it a head of time.
Their workers were very nice and polite.
Even when we needed extra work - they did not charge us any more then the original contract.
I highly recommend them.

I was very pleased that Preferred Home Builders called me the night I put my request in. We are going to be starting this project in about two months. So far, so good! I will complete when the work is finished.

We're happy with our completed bathroom addition by Preferred Homebuilders, Inc. However, I'm sorry to say the job took 4 months instead of the 4 weeks estimated, a permit wasn't pulled until we withheld a payment two months into the job, and the office staff spoiled customer relations by nagging for incremental payments in advance of associated work spelled out in the contract.

PHB stayed on schedule despite short rain delays and finished early. Provided reasonable prices for two small change orders to the project. Office staff is knowlegdable and jobsite foreman are easy to communicate with.
