Wow! This restaurant is fantastic. It has bold Asian flavors combined with artistic presentations. Literally the kajaki (Hawaiian for blue marlin) was so beautiful that I didn't want to eat it, alas when i finally did taste it it was delicious. While I was there i also enjoyed the Blackened Tuna appetizer which was delightful a spicy but not too spicy mustard butter sauce went very well with this high quality tuna. I also had the sashami sampler which blew my socks off!!!! Maybe Roys is the next hot sushi restaurant in Austin?? I certainly think so. The service was absolutely wonderful; very attentive and personal, the new Executive Chef ,Jason, even came by to say hello. I will definitely return to this great Austin restaurant.

Pros: This is the perfect place for a special evening

.

Ate there with my wife two nights ago and haven't stopped talking about it. The Ahi tuna was amazing. I haven't had any as good since I left the coast. Service was spot on and the wine list was great as well. I am surprised that more people havent' stumbled across this place. It is right downtown and probably now rates as my favorite restaurant. They have an amazing patio, too. I highly suggest this place for either a special occasion or just an excuse to have some good food.

I love Roy's Hawaiin .It has a super friendly staff and the food is great. If you need to $ pinch on the money, don't go. But cheap food does'nt taste like this!! It takes time to cook great food and I'm o.k. paying for it, too. Great for date night or a few friend's gathering. Beautiful atmosphere. Bon A'petite!!

The service is wonderful and the ribs are to die for. Never thought a place like Roys would have great ribs because its really a fish joint. But the ribs and steak were as good as any high end steak house.
The chicken was so - so. I would recommend sticking to the fish or the beef.

I've been here about ten times in the past three years and it is excellent EVERY TIME. No matter what we order, it is always perfectly cooked and seasoned. Since the kitchen is open, you can see that it is clean and the kitchen staff is expedient and professional. The bathrooms are so pristine and clean you could eat off the floor. Their special cocktails are delicious. Also, I have been here for New Years Eve and Valentines Day, and those Prix fix menus are terrific as well.

Everyone should try Roy's! I took my husband there for his birthday and when I made the reservation they asked it it was a special occasion. I told the girl that it was his birthday and when we got to the restaurant they had printed out a special menu just for him. It had his name and "Happy Birthday and Best Wishes from Roy's". We also ordered the souffle at the end of our meal and they wrote Happy Birthday in chocolate on the plate and put a candle on it. It was so great. He was so surprised.

The best part about Roy's is that they have a Prix Fixe Menu that you can order from. It's $35 per person and includes an appetizer, entree, and the dessert, so you can get our of there for under a hundred dollars. We've spent more than that at restaurants half as nice. I also ordered an entree I didn't like and the server encouraged me to order something different at no charge. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a romantic evening out. THANKS ROY'S!!!

Incredible food, incredible service. Always creative menus, and a flour-less chocolate cake that is amazing. I can't eat gluten and the chef came to the table to tell me what I could eat and suggest side dishes with the entre that would match well (since I couldn't eat some of the sides). I had scallops that melted in my mouth, my sister said her fish was some of the best she had ever had (she had the trio, tuna, butterfish and a third I can't remember). Been there twice and both times was great. It is pricey, but well worth the money.

All I can say is that it was the best meal I have ever had in this city, hands down. I have lived in Miami, NYC, and London, and France... I have eaten every where worth wild and I can't remember a meal quite so good. The inventions this Chef "Lawrence Kocurek " has brought to town are defiantly a reflection of his NYC culinary background. We started the meal with a Sushi dish that was Hamachi two ways, both in tartare form and the grilled Collar, my favorite... it was to die for, subtle in the tartare and assertive flavors in the collar. Next we had the Hearts of Palm Salad with Truffle dressing, get this Chef Kocurek made the prosciutto that is in the salad in house, the waiter said it has taking a year to mature...who does that outside of NYC and other great cities. The salad was fantastic. Then for entree my wife and I had the "Opakapaka" Hawaiian Snapper and I had the Loin of Lamb...blown away the Lamb was cooked to perfection and looked like a steak the way it was prepared huge portion served with a Mint and Apricot Tabouleh and a lamb sausage called merguez that I knew from my time in France, the waiter informed us that the lamb sausage was also made in house... fantastic dish.
Ah my wifes dish the opakapaka we have been to Hawaii a few times and each time the wife must get Opakapaka she just loves it. This preparation the chef does is simply but out there at the same time. Chef Kocurek sears the fish skin side till crispy , then sets that atop a bed of sauteed spinach, wild mushrooms Portuguese sausage and Chili marinated Baby Octopus, severed with a ginger flavored sauce truly a beautiful looking and tasting dish. Dessert Chocolate souffle. This place is a truly over looked eatery in Austin, I can't say enough without rambling..... the Chef is fantastic, service was great ,RC was our server. We will be back and will tell all about the best FOOD IN THE CITY..... ROY'S.

My boyfriend and I went here on our anniversary. The server did his job well, he was very attentive, although a little cold. The cocktails were delicious, my boyfriend had the Mai Tai and I had the Hawaiian Martini. We had the calamari as an appetizer, and whoo, it;s not for the faint of heart. It was very spicy, but tasted nothing short of amazing. I recommend it if you don't mind a little spice. The calamari was the best I have ever had. For my entree, I had the Classic Trio. All three fish were delicious. The tuna was cooked just right, the butterfish was very flavorful and the salmon was great. All three sauces were superb as well. I was slightly dissapointed by the size of all three portions though, they were so small. Even after the appetizer and every bit of my entree, I wasnt full. For the price, I expected a little bit more. We had the chocolate souffle to finish our meal off, and oh my, I recommend it to any chocolate lovers out there. Overral, it was a great experience. The restaurant was very romantic, perfect for a special occasion. I would tell you though, only go if you are looking for a great experience overral and quality, over quantity. If you go in looking for a entree that will leave you stuffed, you might walk out dissapointed.

I just really love this place. My husband and I went to the origianl in Kaui over 10 years ago so I was so happy when Roys opened in Austin. We went the first week it opened and were thrilled. It has been way to long since I have been back, but we went last week for an anniversary and am happy to say it still rocks!

I received a gift card for $50.00 from my sister on my birthday (Nov.) I saved it for my husband & I to use for Valentine's Day. The food was okay but certainly not worth $173.13. With tip it came to over $200.00. I gave them the gift card and the waiter came back saying it was declined. I said that it couldn't be, I'd never used it till today. But he said "sorry". So we paid the check anyway. When I got home, I called the number on the card and put in my number. I t stated that it had been used on 2/14/07, it was purchased on 11/13/06. I called Roy's and talked with the manager there and told him what I experienced. I gave him the number to call & the number on my card to verify what I learned. He called back and said that he was sorry, he didn't know what happened and was going to mail me a giftcard for $75.00. I never received the card. I think that the manager and the waiter must have some scam going. They each made $25.00 off of me. I will never go there again. I also think that the gift cards arn't worth it. Don't buy them. They somehow screwed it up to were you can't even use them.

I've never experienced this good of customer service anywhere in my life anywhere. The staff is extreamly proffesional and fast.

The food is good enough to make a condesour melt. Hats off to the chef!!

The atmosphere is romantic but is also a classy bar scene. I am nothing less but grateful that they have come to town.

Our waiter was very friendly and offered us information on what to order on the menu. Then we did, and all the food was extremely bland and tasteless, covered up with more sauce that made it even MORE tasteless. For example, the waiter recommended a sushi roll for $14.00, and we got it but it was flavor-less sauce heaped upon flavor-less compilations of what they called the best roll on the menu. Also another girl in my party ordered a salad for $12-15 dollars and all she got were a few leaves, some toppings - overall: VERY DISAPPOINTING!! You will save tons of your money (because this place is SOO expensive for it's quality of food) if you take it somewhere better to one of the other fine restaurants that Austin has to offer.

My Fiancee and I went to Roy's to celebrate our recent engagement and were treated like VIPs all the way. Small touches like a personalized menu insert that wished us best wishes and congratulations and a personal message on our desert plates really set the tone for a great evening. The food was wonderful. Since this was our very first time dining at Roy's, both of us chose items form the prix fixe menu and enjoyed everything. Our waiter recommended a great sparkling wine form New Mexico of all places. Our service was great. Other reviewers mentioned that the service could a little too attentive at times, and while I can see that, it didn't bother either my fiancee or me one bit. Keep in mind though, everyone that checked on us congratulated us on our engagement, and I don't think we would've ever got tired of being congratulated.

Again, Roy's was a great place to have a very special romantic dinner. Everything they did gave us a memorable time.

My husband and I went there to celebrate our third anniversary, and it was wonderful. I had the lobster potstickers for an appetizer which was delicious. We had the filet of beef and tiger shrimp for our entree. The beef was tender and full of flavor, and it came with a interesting sauce. We paired our meal with a velvety Chilean wine; it was a perfect combination. For dessert we had the chocolate souffle with rasberry sauce, which was unbelievable.

Many reviews complain about the noise level, but we went on a Sunday night, and it was pretty quiet. The service was superb, (perhaps even a little too attentive at times!)

All around a great romantic outing. Nice touches included a complimentary champagne toast and a personalized menu wishing us "Happy Anniversary."

I took my wife to Roy's for her birthday in September.....and it's a decision I certainly don't regret. Our waitress was fantastic (an 8 out of 10), the ambiance was great (10/10), and the food was perfect (10/10). The food was probably the best I've ever had. It doesn't mean that Roy's is the best restaurant, but on that night, all the stars aligned perfectly for them (& us). I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice, romantic place to go for dinner. The prices are fair, but you'll end up spending $50/person even w/o drinks.

I have eaten at several installations of the Roy's chain while travelling on business around the US. The Roy's in Austin has by far the best ambiance and the food is fantastic. I find the sauces with every dish I experience to be complex and the ingredients are always of the highest quality. To drink, the wine list is well-developed but I would recommend the Orange Crush cocktail for sure.

For the price I thought the fish was a bit bland and the chocolate souffle was ok but not to die for. I'll agree with the other reviews too - it was too loud in there. It was a Tuesday night and not that many people but it was still too hard to hear the person in front of me.

Our experience at Roy's was pretty nice. My husband and I had the appetizer boat to start with and it was yummy but filling. I had the scallop entree, whose texture can only be described as SEXY. My husband's butterfish was not as great, but okay. The famous chocolate souffle is awesome. The seating is good, but the acoustics are not great. You pretty much have to sit next to your date to hear anything.

Mahalo means thank you, and that is exactly what you say after each bite. I remember Thanksgiving in Hawaii after my mom got remarried. We ate at Roy's and everything was perfect. I can't personally say anything about the wine list (because I don't drink!), but my step-brother, sister and brother-in-law think it is great. My mom and step-brother come in from Houston to enjoy it. We love Roy's! Our whole family recomends it to anyone near a Roy's. Having the one here in Austin is like stepping into a bit of Hawaii itself. Thanks Roy's for keeping my memories alive!

I have been dining around Austin for over 7 years and I have never been more impressed by a "Chain" restaurant. I went in a on a Thursday night to discover live Jazz in the bar and a small but lively crowd. Service in both the bar and dining room were stellar, friendly and inviting. But on to the true story behind this place, the food! I cant tell you exactly what was in the sauce or marinade but I know it is called Butterfish, try it, you'll see what I mean! Exiting and unique appetizers, and the best desserts I have found in Austin. In paticular the Chocolate Souffle. I was shocked to find out this restaurant has been open for two years. The manager said they had relied solely on word of mouth. Well, the words from this mouth are "Unparalleled!"

I'm always excited to check out a new seafood restaurant and Roy's was no exception. Unfortunatly it was a very dissapointing experience. My girlfriend and I went on a Tuesday evening, not busy at all, we each ordered the shellfish combo, shrimp and scallops. For $26 each we recieved 4 sub par grilled shrimp and 2 above average scallops, some rice that had been under the light to long(the restaurant was at about 10% capacity), 1 shoot and some sliced carrots. For 8 shirmp, 4 scallops, calamari(average), a cup of coffee and an ice tea that came when I was done with my meal the cost without tip was $69. I'd just assume go to Captains next time.

The food was great. The restaurant atmosphere is definitely not what I would call romantic. The ceilings are high and it felt like a hotel ballroom. The acoustics were terrible. It was difficult to hear anyone at the table or the waiter. We waited over an hour and a half for our entrees. Although they offered a free appetizer (in addition to what we ordered) it wasn't enough to make up for the poor service. Our waiter was not friendly or knowledgeable and then proceeded to clear the table when one of us in the group wasn't finished eating. The service and food preparation time need some work! We made reservations two weeks prior but were still given a bad seat and had to wait 20 minutes to be seated!!

I found Roy's of Austin to be very pleasant. The prices are reasonable for the price point it is catering too. Most dishes where in the 17-25 dollar price range. The portions where large; i was expecting a small portion on a large platter. The service was great; never was there a moment we didn't have any rolls on the table. The appetizers where to die fore. The desserts are awesome. Try the drink specials.

I went to Roy's Austin last Friday night and personaly thought the food and service were outstanding. I had the Achi Salmon as an appitizer it was incrediable, the plate presentation was like a work of art. For the second course I ordered the Blackened Ahi Tuna, which looked and tasted great as well. And I finished my meal with the Choclate Souffle, which was to die for. It was also very exiting watching the chefs in the open kitchen, it is kind of like getting a meal and a show. Overall I was very impressed with Roy's Austin.

Pros: Romantic, Exciting, Wonderful food

Nice setting, but over-priced food was the deal of the day. My friends and I enjoyed the service and the food but think it's too expensive except for special celebrations.

Talk about a great place to meet people and enjoy good wines...They are also very generous with the tastings...So far, I have been to 8 or 9 tastings...champagne, umami, port...you name it, they are open for suggestion and willing to please. The appetizers served with the wine are excellent. The desserts served with the ports were also tasty. The waitstaff is helpful and knowledgable. They are encouraged to learn about the wine and food. I'd go here for a special occasion definitely. After a dinner at Roy's, my fiance and I set a Wedding Date!

Amazing from the moment we walked in! Bright ALOHAS echoed as we were escorted through their warm, enchanting dining room. The spirit of Hawaii is definitely present. Large tropical arrangements throughout the dining rooms and bright floral paintings adorn the walls, giving one instantly the feeling that you have been transported to the isles. I was fortunate to dine on an evening when the chef was featuring a bone in swordfish chop -- OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!! This had to be one of the most incredible dishes I've EVER had. The fish melted in my mouth and the flavors seemed to over take me, very bold and distinct. This was the most incredible dining experience that we have had in Austin! The service catered to our every whim -- it lacked nothing. We will definitely be back time and time again! MAHALO Roy's!
