Went to JD in Rabat, Morocco on personal recommendation. Left with a haircut much shorter than I have asked for plus tons of badly smelling conditioner on me.

The problem was that the maestro who did not even introduce himself did not ask what I wanted and even - when told - ignored it or went on with another strange idea. Meaning the cut himself, I showed him clearly still want to be able to put my hair in a bun. Does not work with that short length anymore. Meaning the styling, he just straightened them by blowdrying - which for curly hair like mine is a) a torture and b) I never do as I want a haircut which looks good and does not create a hell of work each morning.

This was feasible so far, now with those chopped curls I really struggle. Thank God, hair is growing and conditioner can be washed off.

If they really would be interested in women's beauty as stated on their website, first of all they should regard their clients' needs and not just start in an arrogant manner to do something no-one has asked for.

BTW: I wrote them an e-mail six weeks before and never got an answer.

I am speaking as an ex-employee of this salon and i have to admit that all negative comments about this salon are true and i will not recomment it to anyone: staff is nothing beyond ordinary and their "unique " cutting techniques are imaginary. Their cuts loose its hape right after the first washa nd the color experiments that they were doing on us while we were employed just ruined my hair: that took me almost a year to grow back.

Management suck and environment is unhealthy.

Try it yourself;)

i dont think people understand the beauty of modern style. the haircuts and the blowdrys that i get there are aboslutely exceptional! i always feel like a celebrity after i come out and I absolutely do not support the negative reviews. Yes, the staff stare at you and smile, but they are just trying to be hospitable. The place is pricy, but I think that the way you feel about yourself after that post dessange experience is totally worth it!

I'm French and sometimes in France I went to some Dessange Hairdressers.
Even if I speak the same language than the owner, he didn't understand what I wanted! My hair color is still the same than before and we still see my roots!
Except the hair cut which is not too bad, I don't see any change at all!
For the steep price I pay, I would have expected a better result!

We pay the price for the French brand...And it doesn't worth it!

I went to Dessange for the first time today. I am a man with short hair that's not too easy to cut because of color variations, weird growth angles and somewhat curly hair but they did a fantastic job. I don't quite understand some of the bad reviews. It is an upscale salon, so they do go out of their way to provide great service (take your coat, offer beverages, actually smile at you...) - not sure how this is a negative. It is true that English is not the mother tongue of most (maybe all) of the staff, but this is a French salon, and I found that it was easy to communicate with everyone I encountered. The place is spotless, the location is great (in the heart of the South End), the people are friendly and professional, and they give excellent cuts. It's a winner in my book!

going to this salon was a big mistake for me. i had gone to the dessange in ohio and loved the work they did there so when i heard that there was going to be a dessange opening in boston i was very excited. i live in natick and i thought it was worth the drive. when i had called to make my appointment the women i spoke with didnt understand a word of english. i was trying to tell her what day i wanted to come in and what i wanted done and i was on the phone with her for about 15 mins untill she finally understood what i wanted and i was still unsure of what had happened. she had made me an appointment with someone she said was the "best", he was from france and apparently knew how to do exactly what i wanted. so the day of my appointment i arrive and i step one foot into the salon and there is five people around me one trying to take my coat, one trying to get me coffee and the other trying to check me in. it was too much for me but after everyone had left, i was offered coffee five more times. after i had been waiting about five mins a women came out i believe she was the manager she didnt speak a word of enligh and tried to assure me that i was getting my hair done with the best. once the gentlemen came to get me to do my hair i think his name was juelan he couldnt speak english either, i tried to explain what i had wanted done but it was as if he didnt care. he just did whatever he wanted to do and my hair looked horrable. i am 52 years old and i have never had such a bad hair cut. it was as if everyone at the salon were robots they didnt care what you wanted. no one had any emotion, i feel bad for everyone who works there, they walk around as if someone died always whispering and fake smiling whenever they looked at me. for the money i payed i thought it was going to be a friendly enviroment not one that i would be afraid to say a word to loud. i would never in my life go back and i would not recommended this to anyone. my hair was horrable! so much for the best

Would not suggest to an enemy. Employees barely understand your requests and the owner is ridiculously friendly.
Only Julian know's what he's doing but i will not pay $150 for a cut that looks bad after first wash already.

Well, first, I have been trying forever to look at the website since they opened. They finally have a new one up but it is such a clustered mess it's hard to find what you're looking for. It needs to be more concise and to the point. So, my experience was about a month and a half ago so things may have changed. I called the salon and had a hard time understanding the receptionist. She couldn't answer all my questions or maybe didn't understand them.
I went into the salon and was greeted by four employees who were friendly enough but I felt a bit clausterphobic and creeped out with them all smiling and staring at me. Before a hello I was immediately asked to please sit down. I got a decent haircut, but don't think the stylist quite understood what I was looking for even with a picture in hand. Could be a language barrier, but I would expect their stylists to speak fluent English. Decent cut but don't think I'll go back.
Salon was super clean, like a hospital being all white. Not very cozy and completely empty. The music was a strange mix. I did enjoy my complementary espresso and hand massage with hot towels though. The scalp massage before my wash was delightful and the products all smelled wonderful.
My review may seem negative, and it could have just been the day, but while the service was almost passable, I didn't feel an ease in my experience and kept my fingers crossed while my hair was cut. I did like the products that were used and bought a shampoo, conditioner and scalp treatment. Might go back just for product. Expensive services (hair, face and massage) overall.

i went into dessange after walking by it every day for a TRIM.. im growing my hair out and it was getting ratty. i told the stylist what i wanted (same length just trim the layers) and she kind of gave me blank looks.. after cutting my hair for almost 2 hours, i realized that she took 2 inches off my already too short hair!!!!! i almost cried.. the haircut does not suit my hair at all! - she gave me a super short bob on thick curly hair!! icant style it and i hate the way it looks curly, i look like a lion! the only good thing about this place was the espresso they kept shoving at me! even the decor drove me crazy, its pretty much all white, i felt like i was in a hospital. definitely not worth $90 for a haircut!!!!

I went there on my birthday and got a haircut with Julian. I just asked him to do whatever he thinks would look best. He took time to look at my face from different angles and after working with different types of shears and a razor I ended up with a modern, stylish and expensive looking cut. I loved the shape! I got tons of compliments on it and it lasted for a long time. Julian was very friendly, attentive and I would definately be back for a cut with him and I will give my wife a gift certificate to see him. Next time I'll try the esspresso but the tea I got was great. :)

I came to Dessange with a hair 911! My color was awful. I met with the colorist Crystal and I knew immediately I was in the right hands. She knew exactly what I wanted and needed, and assured me that should would make my hair healthier that when I came in. My hair has NEVER been shiny! She did this French henna treatment in my color, put it this way I was soooo blown away, shine, shine, shine. Crystal then did "balayagge" a way of producing natural hilites that do not damage the hair. It was like watching an artist. She recommended that I come back in a few days for a Palm Treatment. My hair is like new. Im sad to say I'm moving to NY but I will definitely be traveling 5 hrs to see her again. I highly highly recommend you go see Crystal.
