I had dined there once before after they had first opened and had an excellent time. I walked in and was seated during a weekend with no reservations. My date and I enjoyed ourselves, and I also ordered a very expensive bottle of wine which was absolutely divine.

A couple of years later, I take my girlfriend there, only to be met by a very snobby and rude receptionist who literally turned up his nose at us when I stated we did not have reservations. There seemed to be plenty of seating there, yet the male receptionist made such a big deal about not having reservations that we never went back.

I hear that Tavola Rossa is now closed. Things like this happen when you are rude to the people responsible for your paycheck.

This was our first time there. We went on a Tuesday night for my birthday dinner- total of 6 in our party. We were seated promptly. We only saw 2 other couples and 1 private party there the entire night. Our server was very nice and refreshed our drinks continually during the dinner. However we were never offered in bread and after asking twice in a period of 15-20 minutes they did bring us some bread with hummus. It took 1 hour from the time we sat down until we received our food. I think that is a long time. We did not order anything complicated.. 2 people ordered fettucini alfredo and 1 child ordered cheese pizza and the other 3 ordered pasta. I personally think 30 minutes is okay to wait on food but I think 1 hour is extreme (especially when it was not busy). I would not recommend it to anyone that has small children, is in a hurry or is very hungry. I expect more from an upper scale restaurant when I spend that kind of money- I expect a better experience. It was so slow that we ended up taking our dessert home with us because we were afraid of how long it would take to actually get it. Food is excellent but the cooks need to do better or they need more help!

My office has their Christmas party here every year. We usually have random appetizers and an open bar. The food is always unique and delicious! This past Christmas, we had duck confit and tuna tartar in what looks like a little ice cream cone. The prosciutto wrapped shrimp ($11 appetizer...JUMBO shrimp) is also a great choice! The chocolate martinis are done very well!

Daryl and I decided to eat dinner here after going the mall tonight. I had a $25 off coupon, so I figured what the heck! Daryl had the shrimp and grits (of course) - $15. He said it was good and he liked the big pieces of andouille sausage. I ordered the Grilled Veggie Plate with Fresh Fish (Grouper) - $25. The grilled veggies were awesome! It was an entire plate filled with eggplant, zucchini, squash, red, green, and yellow peppers, red onion, and tomato with balsamic drizzled on it and chunks of goat cheese. The Grouper was placed on top. The fish could use a little sprucing up with some sort of seasoning. Or maybe I should've gotten it with the salmon, but the vegetables were really good!

Their complimentary bread is like a thinly sliced toast and served with hummus. My favorite!

We decided to share a dessert...the Chocolate Bomb ($7). It was a round dessert with an Oreo Crust Bottom, a layer of chocolate mousse, a layer of peanut butter mousse, and chocolate ganache on the outside. It was the bomb diggity!! It was like a really large peanut butter cup with oreos smashed into the bottom. I would go back again and again just for their signature dessert!

The wait staff was excellent! The owner even came over to check on us to see how we were doing. It was a good dinner!

We've eaten there a couple of times simply because we didn't want to eat at the mall and didn't want to drive too far out. The place has a good atmosphere. The food is good. Not great. I get the feeling you are paying to be so close to the mall. It's a good alternative to restaurants at the mall. Not worth an extra trip though.

Hello to the Tavola Rossa guests,
My name is John Fox. I am the Bar Mananger at Tavola Rossa Restaurante Italiano at 5300 Homewood Banks dr. Raleigh, NC. I would like to take the time to thank every single one of the regular guests who frequent our establishment. I encourage everyone who lives in Raleigh and the surrounding areas to take the time and stop into our restaurant to see what you are missing. I have personally met a lot of people who have returned time and time again to receive what has been told to me as,"outstanding food and service." I would not say this about your "run of the mill restaurant." I have worked in this business for 20 years and can honestly say i will never tire of the food on this menu. I should know, I eat here every night that i work... That is saying a lot of the quality of food that is served here.. My General Manager Russ is the most gracious person to the customer that i have ever worked for and he will bend over backwards to facilitate the needs of your dining experience. We have an extensive wine menu(and some wines that aren't on the menu). Just ask Russ or myself for a tour and or tasting. This is really the jewel that is waiting to be discovered city wide. Come see for yourself. Thank you all again for a great 2008. We hope to see you all in 2009. John Fox

Pros: Food, srevice, and ambience

Cons: Not enough seats in house

Nice location, nice atmosphere, but I won't be back because they automatically put in their tip (at 18%, mind you). I refuse to give business to restaurants who assume tips are a right and not what tips are supposed to be. I went without water for a while -- why should the waiter exert himself to give water when his tip was automatic? I wanted coffee but couldn't find the waiter in time, and when I did, it was too late. Why lift a finger if tip is automatic?

The tragic thing is, I'm a excellent tipper and I, in most cases, would tip more (20 to 25%) than if tip is automatic.

This was our first and last experience at this restaurant. We decided to try it out since it was close to Crabtree and we didn't want to eat at the mall. After getting our food I noticed a small one crawling on the wall right next to my daughter. As soon as I pointed that out to her I noticed a full sized one right next to me on the wall (we were seated at a table for 2 pushed right up against the wall). After jumping up and getting the waitress's attention I noticed another one right on the table next to my plate. The waitress quickly picked up our food and moved it to the table across from us. She joked about leaving the door open today because of the warm weather and also mentioned they sprayed today and that probably had something to do with it. I was surprised that no manager came by to introduce themselves and apologize or anything. We ate some of our food, but neither one of us really felt like eating after that and did not finish our meals. The waitress then came by and offered us each a free dessert because of what happened, but we declined. I assumed she would take something off our bill instead, but she did not. That would have been the very least a good restaurant would have done. We paid the bill and again no one even apologized. We walked out and even the hostess at the desk was not paying attention and didn't say anything as we left. This was not a cheap restaurant and no one seemed to really care very much about what happened. I urge you NOT TO EAT HERE.

We have been to this restaurant several times and it has always been a good experience. The service is good and the food is tasty. The manager ( Russ) has always made good wine recommendations. We recently went to Tavola Rossa for my birthday. When we mentioned it was my birthday the owner made sure it was a special evening for us. An evening that started out as just a routine birthday dinner ended up as a great night out. We really enjoyed the owner . He is quite a character!

This restaurant is off the beaten path; which means the wait time for a table is often short. It's worth seeking out.

We had a reservation for a large group during lunch hours and were completely underwhelmed with our experience. There were only two waitresses on staff during lunch where our group could have used 2 waitresses alone. When we arrived, the chairs were set so closely together there would have been no comfortable way to eat. When we asked for another table, the manager made it seem like we really inconvenienced him, while the rest of our group just had to stand there as he lectured us. The room we were in (and the entire restaurant) was hot and humid. Our drinks remained empty quite often and the waitresses were not in very good moods which only hurt the service more. The food was good, once it came out, but we had to ask to have our plates cleared, ask for the desert menu, ask to have our drinks refilled, and ask for the check.

Coffee and Contacts is a networking group for women and we have held two Lunch and Learns here. The owner and staff were very accomodating and the food tasty, They set us up in a private room and provided very good service to the 40+ women in attendance. Depending on availability and how much space we need we will go back again.

My department had lunch reservations at Tavola Rossa to welcome new members to the team a few weeks ago and what was meant to be a pleasant lunch became ridiculous. We had reservations for 14 people, and when we arrived we had to wait for 10 minutes to get the tables set up. There was no one else in the restaurant, and this should have been done prior to our arrival. The service was slow and our waitress seemed very disinterested in taking our orders. We sat outside in the warm afternoon sun for about 15 minutes before our drinks were brought out to us. Again, there were no other patrons in the restaurant. When our orders were taken and the food was ok, not at all worth the prices. We had to ask many times for little things: straws, napkins, and to-go boxes. It was just an unpleasant experience. Also, due to the size of the group, tip was included in our bill, which is understandable, but in checking my account later revealed that I was charged a different amount than I signed for at the restaurant. I guess I should have taken the fact that no one else was there at lunch time as a hint. Find some where else to go. You can get so much more for the same cost elsewhere.

I went there a while ago, and the food was average, the service was ok, but overall i was not very happy. I also had the unfortunate experience of meeting the owner. He was a very unkind man, and did not take into effect anything that was being said. I had to hunt down my waitress multiple times just to get service, and when I was finally helped it was given to me with an attitude. I would recommend this place to no one, the ownership is awful and really does not know how to help anyone.

I went to this restaurant on Mother's Day, May 11, 2008 and was very unhappy with my experience. First of all the food was cold. It was the worst food I have ever tried to eat. I did not complain because I was with my family and I did not want to make anyone feel bad for choosing this restaurant. They also ran out of chocolate covered strawberries of which I had none. Several people had asked the waitstaff about them and they said they did not have anymore. I then decided to try an omelet which they cooked in front of you at the buffet table. The only good thing about the omelet was it was hot. The taste was awful. I took two bites and I had to stop. The price of the buffet was certainly not worth what we paid. I feel I was robbed. The next day I called to voice my disappointment to the manager. I actually talked to the owner, but he could not have cared less. He said that I was the only one that complained. If that is the case, there are a lot of people out there that do not know what good food is. I will never go back to this restaurant. It does not even deserve one star.

I went to Tavola Rossa when it first opened with a group of women. The service was terrible and they were OUTof several of the pizzas/entrees my group tried to order. The waitstaff had to no concept of service and seemed more put out by us being there instead of happy to serve us. We chalked it up as being new. Giving it a second chance, I went there again the other day with a group and same story. I ordered pizza and they were OUT! How does an Italian place run out of pizza twice?? I mentioned that to the servers and they shrugged it off, offered no type of apology....they could have cared less. We had 2 servers because of our group and they both missed the boat of the concept of service. They were slow, they had to be flagged down, and they were visibly frustated with serving our large group. The fact that this has been my experience with the waitstaff and being out of food twice tells me the problem lies with management. No one is making sure that this place can follow through with good service and food choices. I would not recommend this place to anyone and will never return.

I took my father to Tavola Rossa today for his birthday lunch. I arrived a little early and was greeted courteously. While I waited for my dad I was offered something to drink. We were seated promptly and our server was very nice. The bread and sauce they serve while you wait is delicious. I ordered the Puttanesca (linguini with capers, olives, tomatoes and garlic) and my father had the Chipotle Chicken Panini. The portions were just right (although they gave my dad a TON of fries with his sandwich) and it was delicious. I think their red sauce is one of the best I've ever tasted.

The owner/manager was circulating around and was very friendly. While we were there we made reservations for Mother's Day brunch. I'm looking forward to going back!

I recently moved into one of the apartments around the corner from Tavola Rossa, so my boyfriend and I were excited to try it out. The food was unexceptional, but we probably would have continued to eat there once in a while if it weren't for what I quickly discovered: they have loud parties there every weekend. When I say loud, I mean LOUD enough to literally shake the walls of my apartment. This goes on until well after 2am. On the nights when I'm at home during one of their parties, it's really unpleasant. So, if you don't want to give your money to rude selfish people who are bad neighbors to their community, I suggest you try another restaurant nearby - there are plenty at Crabtree Mall, or if you're looking for another Italian restaurant, Ragazzi's is down the street on Glenwood Ave., and I also recommend Bella Monica at Olde Raleigh Village shopping center. One of our favorite restaurants in the area, Taverna Agora, is also nearby on Glenwood, and they have delicious Greek food and great service!

We have been going to Tavola Rossa as often as possible since discovering it about a year ago. The service, food, beverages, and decor are all excellent! We thoroughly enjoy the "experience" of visiting Tavola and have made friends with the Maitre d', Russ, owner Leslie, and many of the wait and bar staff. The food is very creative and satisfying. The layout of the wine list points you to wine characteristics that amateurs can understand and pros can appreciate. The selection and pricing of the wine is unique in the Raleigh area. We highly recommend this restaurant!

I had the opportunity recently to dine again at Tavola Rossa. If it were a bar only it would certainly be "Cheers". The food was excellent as was the service. Russ, the manager is the epitome of the polished manager. He is impeccably well-mannered and made us feel immediately welcome. Each time we visit we are greated by name and treated as royalty by the whole staff. Even the chef, Nick ,drops by for a visit. Though called an Italian restaurant , the fare is varied and the menu is always evolving. As a wonderful bonus we found a jazz guitar duo of extraordinary talent. Tavola Rossa is an absolute gem for Raleigh. No way to miss with great food, great service and great jazz

Though called an Italian restaurant , the fare is varied and the menu is always evolving. As a wonderful bonus we found a jazz guitar duo of extraordinary talent. Tavola Rossa is an absolute gem for Raleigh. No way to miss with great food, great service and great jazz

Pros: food great, service impeccable, excellent jazz in the bar

Cons: the owner should not mingle, leave that to the manager and staff

Tavola Rossa provided the perfect evening for our wedding rehersal dinner. We had about 25 guests on the outdoor patio. The staff reserved a section of the patio and guarenteed us a location inside in case of poor weather. The food was fantastic. We worked with Leslie Lewis (owner) who provided us with great selections, planning and service. We tasted and preordered the appetizers, wine and deserts the week before, which worked out very well. Our guests ordered from the menu, which made everyone happy, but put the kitchen staff a little behind, but not bad. But the highlight was the food. Everyone raved about the food. And the pricing was right!!!
Absolutely perfect.

Tavola Rossa is definitely a nice looking restaurant, very modern looking decor with a cool bar. The food however is not really worth the price. The crab and artichoke dip appetizer was cold in the middle. The tomato and mozzarella pizza I ordered was not very good due to the ingredients, they just didn't taste fresh. The tomatoes were mushy and didn't have that wonderful full ripe flavor that they should have. The mozzarella was not fresh mozzarella. When you are creating a very simple pizza like that the ingredients have to be super fresh for it to work. The service was just OK, our server didn't seem to be very happy to be waiting on us. You can get much better Italian food at Bella Monica which is not far away.

The lunch here is great, it's a hidden treasure in Raleigh. The restaurant is so pretty and the patio is a nice retreat. I have only been here once but my dish, the "Chicken Limone" was to die for. The service is friendly without being pretentious. It's a great find and I never knew it was here. We will totally be back.

My wife and i had been hearing about this restaurant from some of our close friends and we decided to try it. Right away when i arrived i knew our friends had steered us right. The decor is modern and everyone was warm and accomodating when we arrived. Our service and meal were outstanding, one of the best italian meals that i have had in recent years. I had the Veal Picatta and my wife had the Stuffed Shells. I was most impressed by the wine list that was understandable and not overly complicated. Our Server gave us attentive and friendly service, once she found out it was our first time she thanked us for trying us and seemed very interested in our experience. I cannot say enough about this since i feel that in most restaurants today the service staff is solely concerned about themselves and not the experience of their patron. Tavola Rossa will be the restaurant that my wife and i recommend to our friends. Thanks for the great evening.

I decided to attend tavola with my husband for our twenty fifth anniversary. Our server was friendly, showed a very pleasant face and kept us happy. I was horrified when i heard the way the server was being treated by the owner. I will not reccomend this restaurant, not be because of the food, the service or the prices, but because i do not wish to support such a man. Overall the food was great, it had plenty of flavor, i ordered the seabass imperial which was to die for and my husband ordered the stuffed pork chop.

I had been to Tavola Rossa once before and decided it was mediocre. After deciding to give it another shot, we went back. Our server was very pleasant and a joy to deal with, however, the main problem was with the food. Our appetizer, a crab and artichoke dip of sorts, was tasty but cold in the middle. My girlfriend's entree of stewed chicken wasn't bad, but it was somewhat bland. I ordered the chilean seabass, which left me shaking my head in disbelief. The fish was somewhat lukewarm, suggesting it had obviously been sitting in the window for a while. It was served with salty lobster meat, an even saltier thick lemon butter type sauce, and over a bed of spinach. The sauce was overpowering and I'm fairly sure my taste buds will never be the same due to the high salt content. The side dish is what really confused me - a mixture of various grilled squashes in marinara sauce. Yeah, marinara sauce. I'm not a finicky eater and having spent years working in restaurants, I really dislike griping about a meal. Upon finding out that I was charged $34 for this confusing monstrosity, we just paid and quietly left. I'm still dumbfounded as to how someone could get away with preparing a dish like that.

But yeah, at least our server was great and very attentive.

My work keeps me in Raleigh for about 6 months per year in 2 3 month stretches. Since Tavola Rossa is across the parking lot from the hotel where I normally stay, I have dinner there at least once per week -- usually on Friday evenings -- and have been since it was the Cactus Flower.

I find that the TR food is usually wonderful, especially since the current chef, Nick, has been on board. On my past 3 visits I had the Baked Rigatoni Carbonara, the Italian Stewed Chicken, and the Flatiron Steak. All 3 were absolutely wonderful.

On the very few occasions when I was dissatisfied Russ, the Maitre D and Lesly, the owner, have been quick to apologize and offer a replacement.

I find the people at TR congenial, professional, and attentive. I look forward to Friday evenings when I allow myself to DINE -- as opposed to normal eating.

Wow. I love Italian food but I didn't know what I was getting into when I walked in the doors. My girlfriend and I dine out frequently and to alot of Italian restaurants, typically the mom and pop places. Tavola Rossa has set a new standard for them. Upon entering we saw a beautiful black and white tiled floor, the dining room had red accents everywhere. On display in shelving above the dining room there are stunning vases, my girlfriend inquired as to what kind and the manager replied Murano. Unfortunately we stood at the front door without being greeted for a few minutes but the host was gracious promptly seated us in an expansive booth to the left of the restaurant close to one of the better wine cellars I've seen. The host had said that booth was made for a romantic evening, he was right. From our view we could see half of the restaurant with lit candles on every table, but the booth was so cozy it felt like we were all alone. I would wait for that seat all over again. A server quickly greeted us with a warm hello, explained the menu and took a drink order which is very typical. I had a question about a wine that he was not familiar with, instead of lying he sent the GM over to discuss wine with us. I have never had that happen. The GM Russ was so nice to go out of his way in a busy evening and discuss the wine. I recommend the Ritratti. We then ordered Cannelloni and the Meatloaf, both were outstanding. For dessert we had the chocolate bomb, another definate recommendation. All in all the evening was outstanding and we will become quick regulars there.

We called ahead for reservations for a group of 40. No problem.happy to accomadate our group. This was a group of 15 families From the minute we walked in the place Leslie Lewis the owner was rude unfriendly and hateful. When we arrived there were probably 5 other customers in the place. The food was average at best. When we went to pay he insisted one person pay for everyone. Then after 20 min. he said it was ok for each table to have one person pay. The problem was 3-4 different families were at each table. Have you ever herad of such a thing? Then he said they would not except individual credit cards from anyone or if we wanted to pay in cash they would not make change for anyone. One of our 17 year old girls was beside herself because he would not allow the waiter to take her money because she did not have the exact amount her bill came to. Other members of the party had to make change for her. After 40 min. one of the waiters got involved went behind the owners back and took our credit cards so we could pay. His reason for wanting one person to pay for everyone was so his staff would not waste their time ringing up all the transactions. As it turned out it took them oh maybe 5 min.. If we had all made seperate reservation he would have allowed it I supose.
Leslie did nothing but scream at us stomp his feet like a 2 year old and make his staff miserable they on the other hand thought his rules and ways of handling customers were crazy. Hopefully his staff members are smart enough to quit and find a nice person to work for. Nothing would be more deserved than for the city to avoid his establishment and for Lesliet to go out of business. He does not deserve any positive ratings. A - 0 is to high of a rating

omg this restaurant is mind blowing! it's right around the corner from mcdonald's, which makes me wonder how mcdonald's could still be in business! i was greeted at the door by the HOTTEST little blonde i've ever seen, one that i had no problem following as she wiggled her way over to where i was to be seated. the waitress wasn't bad either. i can't read or speak italian, but she was very helpful in explaining the menu to me. i ordered bread as an appetizer, then asked about wines. she sent this fat guy over to explain everything. man, he was so smart at wines i didn't have a clue what he was talking about! i told him to bring me a bottle of whatever wine he just mentioned. it tasted good but then i SNEEZED at the same time and was like pppfffftttt! and had to spray it out all over the place. oops. then for some reason he left the table, while the waitress came and cleaned it up. i was so embarassed, but then the fat guy came back with... get this... a WHOLE nother bottle of wine!
the bread was very tasty, and they served it with hot olive oil and roasted garlic cloves. and you know what else? they gave it to me for FREE! so then the waitress helped me pick out the best food EVAR. i got up and looked around the place at one point cause i needed to use the bathroom anyway, and you know who i ran into!? doug weight! an actual carolina hurricane omg! i was like dude... dude... DUDE i can't believe you're HERE! and he said he's there a lot and then the waitress helped me find my seat again. i ate soooo much! the desserts were so good! omg i'm so fat now!

I recently visited this restaurant for the first time and definetly will be returning. The person greeting me at the door was friendly and quickly seated us on the patio. The waiter was there within a few minutes and suggested some very nice entrees along with wines since on Monday's they are currently giving 50% off their bottles. The food was done well. We had the canneloni which we were told is their most popular dish along with a blackened seabass. The desserts were classic and the gelato was excellent. We will definetly be going back on a weekend when they have the live music playing.

Tavola Rossa is a comfortable italian restaurant where you can where shorts and sneakers or a sportscoat. It is good for a family gathering or a date. The bar area is relaxing with 2 flat screens and some fun bartenders to serve you. The dining room servers have always given us excellent service and the food has always been exceptional. Since it is located behind Crabtree Mall, it is a great place to escape to, after a long afternoon of shopping.

Anatomy of a Disaster:
We entered the restaurant on 6/18 at approx 5:14 pm and were pleasantly greeted and seated by Maitre'd (party of 2). I made eye contact and smiled at a waiter who was behind a counter, folding napkins-glad that we did because that would be the first and only acknowledgement we would receive from the wait staff during our visit. There were approx 10-15 people in restaurant, about 4-5 groups. I sat and talked with fiancee for approx 2-3 mins while perusing the menu. Maitre'd returned with another couple whom he seated diagonally across from us, on the other side of a 3 foot wall. I went to bathroom and returned, talked some more and then chose items for dinner. Remarked to fiancee that I hadn't seen our waitperson. Meanwhile the couple seated after us had been greeted, gotten drinks and ordered. I then observed that one waiter was serving approx 3 groups of diners, the second was serving the other 2 groups, the third was enjoying her conversation with the maitre'd and the fourth waiter was conversing with the cooks. We were seated near the cooking area, in plain view and the waiters had to pass us to get to the cooks. As we sat there for another 3-4 mins (approx 15 mins had gone by) I kept waiting for at least one of the waiters to acknowledge us. Foolish me! I thought wait persons were supposed to help the customer-obviously this group worked from other suppositions. When we had been seated for approx 20 mins, with no acknowledgement, we left. On the way out, the Maitre'd approached and said that was a quick dinner. I explained that we had not been acknowledged or served, and that we would not be coming back. He said sorry, but judging from other comments here, this was not and is not an isolated incident. It is not asking too much to expect a restaurant with nearly as many waiters as patrons, to be able to serve 2 customers in less than 20 mins. If this is indicative of the level of service, then those empty seats were no accident.

Snooty sommelier, inattentive waitress. Although I wasn't in charge of our party of 12, I had to continually request that our water glasses be filled and plates cleared. I ordered the ribeye, and it was cooked wrong twice. I decided to wait for dessert as they clearly do not know how to cook a steak here. The manager came over to offer his apologies and to let me know that the next time my hubby and I come in to eat to ask for "Russ" and he will "personally supervise our meal." No thanks. I can cook ten times better than his chefs. Scallops in my husband's dish were rubbery. The salad was bland, the dessert mediocre. Because I have served in fine-dining establishments, I was extremely disappointed with the lackluster service. How many times must we ask for more water? Or coffee? Stay away, and spend your money elsewhere.

My wife and I ate at Tavola Rossa for Valentine's day, after a great experience on V-day 2005. Both times we ordered the prix-fixe menu. Although I could have done without the carpaccio (just a personal preference), the salad, lobster ravioli, and dessert were all very good. The price (around $100 including tip) included a bottle of wine, but I'm no sommelier so I can't comment on it's quality. We were fortunately seated in the more private area to the left of the main dining room, a definite step up from last year as the typical seating for two is somewhat awkward. Personally I could do without the strolling musicians.
Our service, food, and overall experience was great, leaving nothing to complain about. I'm looking forward to our next visit.

While being seated, we realized that we would have no privacy. The layout of the dining room was cramped. I noticed around the room that other parties seemed uncomfortable with the seating also. After ordering, we waited 1 hour and 25 minutes before the food arrived. During which time, we saw our waiter only 3 times. We had to ask the manager to refill our glasses. After eating, we explained to the manager that our check was improperly charged. In reconciling the charge, the manager felt the need to try to point the blame to her customer after such a terrible experience with her restaurant already, while overhearing the waiter walk by criticizing us. There were never any final apologies, invitations to a welcome return or any offers to discount the meal. While walking out I overheard another table with similar service complaints. Not worth the hassle or price.

I just can't believe the above reviews. The place looks nice and is well laid out, but that's about it. First off, the place was freezing cold (early lunchtime). The service was downright terrible - the kid brought me the wrong dish and then instead of explaining his error, he simply rips the plate from me without a word and scurries back ten minutes later with the right one when my group is half done already. My water glass remained empty, we had to beg for more bread, never got the cheese I asked for and we weren't even asked if we wanted dessert. The check quickly appeared 20 minutes later - thanks for coming - now get out so we can seat someone else. And this type of summer-help untrained service happened BOTH times I was dragged there. Oh, by the way, I can make better food at home.

Oh, by the way, I can make better food at home.

Pros: nice decor, nice bar area

Cons: LOUSY service, overpriced, average food

.

We have dined here at least 5l times. It is now one of our favorites. Well worth the drive from our home across town. The quality of the food is always excellent and the service is friendly. Usually reservations aren't necessary on a week-night but are a good idea on the week-end. A nice variety to choose from on the menu. The lamb must be the best in town! However, all of the dishes we have tired have been fabulous. The ambience is up-scale but casual dress is comfortable. I think they should think about adding a piano player on week-ends to top off the experience.

We did not have a reservation and though it was the Saturday before Valentine's Day, they fit us in without question. The manager an duty was great, service was quick and friendly. The food was very good. Multiple options in the $10-$25 range. Everyone in our party of 4 was very pleased. I heartily recommend the Eggplant Lasagna, the Chocolate-Peanut Butter Bomb for dessert, and La Pina (a Mojito varient) for a nice drink. Will look forward to a return trip!

My wife and I had dinner there last night. We had agreat meal really enjoyed ouselves. The waiter did take a little long to get the table but he was with another table when we were sat taking an order. The manager came over to go over the wine selections and we really enjoyed his selection, plus it was half price this night. The Tiramisu is prbably one of the best I have ever had.

This place is laid out like a diner. When on a date, and we asked for a table for 2, we were wedged on an end of a sizable party. No privacy. AT ALL. After realizing that this party wasn't leaving anytime soon, and the situation wouldn't get better, we requested another table. Despite looking around at multiple larger empty tables, and after several minutes, all they had to offer were the tables in the bar. Well, in the end that was fine, but it meant we had to chase down our server more than once, both for drink and a menu fix. The food was good, but we aren't running to go back, unless we go back with a large group and can take over a couple of tables.

The seven dollar salad was definitely not worth that amount of money. It was way too small. The prices seemed too large for what I received, there was nothing too spectacular about the place, other than the atmosphere.

My wife and I dined at Tavola Rossa with another couple with whom we regularly dine. We were all impressed with the restaurant's complete make-over from it's original Cactus Flower concept. The decor was spirited but tasteful, and very romantic. We were warmly greeted upon our arrival and were seated without delay. The service was excellent from start to finish - appropriately attentive. After each of our requests, the waitress would reply warmly with, "It is my pleasure" or "I am glad to do it", as opposed to the indifferent "No problem" response that one receives at many restaurants. The menu selections featured several unique offerings. My "Char-Grilled Brochette" was perfectly prepared, and my wife's "Three Cheese Tortellini" was also excellent. The portions were more than satisfying. The dining experience was as casually elegant as Il Palio, as festive as Cafe Luna, and as friendly as Pulcinella's.

What a gem - right here in Raleigh. The decor is amazing but the food and wine stand alone. Excellent selection of menu items, antipasto to 'dine' for. Great wine selection - ask Richard for recomendations. If the menu is overwhelming ask Leslie (owner) for some pointers. While the staff are young they are enthusiastic and eager. Top marks!

The atmosphere makes TR one of those great comfort zone restaurants. The menu is big so the trick is to find the dishes you like. We have settled in to our favorites, yours might be different. Some dishes are really rich which is not our thing, but others are perfect for us. Get owner Leslie Lewis to help you pick after telling him what you like. The antipasta bar is always a great option. The wine list is great too, but we needed help knowing some of the selections. They have section for private parties, which we like in a restaurant. This has become one of our most regular spots with the family or just the two of us.

This place turned out to be a great find for Raleigh. These guys did great for the prices. The decor was nice, the bench seats sucked - (not sure what the attraction for restaurants is with parking people on squashy seats so theyre forced to arch over their appetiser to talk to their dinner partner who is in turn sat on a chair).

But given that the triangle is seriously lacking good Italian restaurants that are both authentic and don't have you sign over your house for the bill, this is a great improvement.

One piece of advice. Ditch the crap olive oil and serve PAN if youre going to use that standard. Come on, spend more than 50 cents a gallon on your Olive oil. After all, Olive oil IS Italian food.

My husband and I ate their last night, excellent choice for dinner. The food was excellent, the lamb chops were to die for as well as the angel hair carbonara. The antipasto was original and delicious! The house wine we ordered was great as well as the martinis we had. The atmosphere is relaxing and beautiful. They have outside dining where we will sit the next time we go and go we definitely will. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were very reasonable and portions big.. Great choice!!!!!

I have to say that after reading the reviews I decided to give this place a chance. I'm a sucker for Carbonara, knowing how tricky it is to make my assumption was that if it's on the menu they know how to make it. Bot was I wrong, the noodles were overdone which prevented the eggs from coating the noodles. The house Chianti was sour and served cold, so cold in fact that the smoothness was pushed aside and made this mellow Chianti a sharp acidic wine, not suitable for enjoyment. I think I'll go back to the Macaroni Grill's house chianti and stable well made foods.

My wife and I dined at Tavola Rossa tonight for the 1st time and we will definitely be going back. We haven't seen an antipasto table like theirs since Florence; we sampled some of each offering and all were tasty. The veal Saltimbocca, made in the tradtitional manner with sage, was very good. The sea bass was offered blackened, sauted or grilled; the grilled was outstanding. The wait staff was very attentive and took care of carb substitutions on both dinners. The wine steward, Rich, was very knowledgable and friendly. The atmosphere is open and pleasant; not too loud.

Me and my wife had a great time there last week. The building looks great - but the food and wine can definately stand on their own. Our waiter, Bobby, was helpful in leading us through the menu and antipasto table while Richard suggested a great bottle of wine.

Overall it was a great time and I know we'll be back as much as possible. Try the Tiramisu.
