5 Stars: amazing place (by na liu)

Well, now that we got that out of the way: Royal India is my first and last stop for Indian food in the San diego. Sure...it's probably all that authentic, that one cares?!? It's good!!! The servers are really good at pointing you in the right direction if you give them an idea of what you're craving. All of the naans are outstanding. I'm not the type of person that always orders the same thing, but Royal India is the exception--I can't leave there complete without having the chicken tikka masala (as spicy as I can persuade them to make it)!
i love going there..

5 Stars: Absolutely amazing.. (by mehul R)

I am frequent eater at Royal India and I fell in love with it for its delicious Indian food and unique beautifully decorated Indian restaurant, cozy romantic seating. It has beautiful hanging chandelier, some hand carved wooden full bar, lots of custom stone work, beautiful arches you walk under to reach the waterfall and the best of all is very comfortable spacious seating . The curries are always good and portions big and the clay oven roasted tandoori chicken is served on the sizzling sizzlers served with vegetable beds and one can live on those health flavorful meats. Everything is fresh and if my friends need it mild they get it mild and if they want it hot it comes wild and everyone goes happy. Nans are the ones to die for they are soft and fresh breads. The dessert RusMalai is mouth watering. A creamy dreamy dessert with pistachio and cherry. Wow I am craving while I write. I am addict to Royal India in the Gaslamp I think its the best Indian restaurant in the whole universe

5 Stars: Satisfying Experience.. (by Nolly M)

I read the review about Royal India's Indian cuisine in the union tribune today and our company decided to try lunch buffet at Royal India. We loved both the salads, all the chutneys including the mango and yogurt dressing. I loved the samosa with mint chutney and tandoori chicken with tamarind chutney. It was an outstanding experience. Talking about curry OH MY GOD I am addicted to Royal India the roasted chicken cooked in creamy tomato curry I believe its Chicken Tikka Masala and palak paneer the spinach item with farmers cheese in it and vegetables in coconut curry with cashew paste is really great and I agree with the review by Margret King the food editor that it is addictive. I do not like it spicy but the chicken curry and lamb curry looked very tempting. The fresh Nan bread was awesome and I mean it. Two Desserts the silky mango and the rice pudding are must try and Royal India is on our list for once a week office lunch. It was a satisfying experience. Royal India is on the top of the list for Indian restaurants for us.

5 Stars: utterly delicuious.... (by anella N)

Having been recommended by a friend who wasn't really a foodie like I am, I happily tried Royal India restaurant in the gaslamp, let me tell you this: whether you've' have Indian or Thai food before or a 'haute cuisine' devotee, you will be utterly happy here. the restuarant has a sleek, chic look, but is easy and casual in demeanor. so you'll be fine whether you're dressed up or dressed down. but it's all about the food: delicious curry like chicken tikka masala or garlic kabab meats, the flavors in curry and marinations for kababs are perfectly done. i've been several times for lunch buffet and dinner and just keep trying different things as the mood takes me. i've recommended it to all my friends and we all agree; it's our 'currant' fav restaurant!

5 Stars: Wonderful place.. (by nazee K)

On the recommendation of one of my daughter's teachers, we went to Royal India. I love Indian food and I really enjoyed their Indian food. Yes, they are the Best. I have to tell you that the only reason it is getting five stars is because I never enjoyed another restaurant as this one. The best part , they ask you how spicy you want your food; they give you a three-curry caddy with some crispy peppery cracker-like stuff which probably has a name but I don't know it; the ambiance is more to my taste; they have a wonderful; music played in the baground; the music isn't playing really loud also, feels gud to ears; and the food is best as i told u before. The portions are really great.. i enjoyed it..

5 Stars: love waterfalls..... (by jack J)

Royal India is where to go when you want to dine like kings and queens. The Gaslamp area restaurant serves authentic Northern Indian cuisine in a refreshing, elegant setting. An outdoor patio offers prime views of downtown foot traffic, while inside, the tall ceilings and open space give the feel of a modern palace, complete with regal d?cor imported from India. Ornate chandeliers cast an elegant glow, while a cascading waterfall offers a backdrop of serenity. The menu is as rich as its surroundings, with flavorful curries, tandoori kababs, and a tempting array of fresh tandoor-baked breads. If you?re unable to make your mind up about the menu, visit during lunch or on Monday evenings, when over 20 dishes are offered buffet-style.

5 Stars: Outstanding (by julie J)

Royal India was amazing. My server took such good care of us. It was a birthday and I had brought in flowers ahead of time and requested a special table in the dining room before the restaurant opened for dinner. Then when we came back later that evening to celebrate everything was ready for us. The flowers and ballons were on display at the table I had chosen. I think he would have even given us just as equal attention to us even if he didn't know it was a special occasion. Everything was so smooth. Food was fabulous. Definitly the best Indian in San Diego. At the end of our dining experience I even made sure I contacted the manager to let him know how pleased I was with everything. I will be back again for sure.

5 Stars: excellent food (by Li Nan)

Recently ate at Royal India restaurant with a friend, and I think the food was excellent. The lettuce wraps that we ordered for an appetizer were amazing, as was our main course comprising of Chicken chili ginger masala, Lamb korma and Kabuli nan. We also ordered Pista ice cream for desert that was heavenly. The decor is elegant and soothing (wonderful outdoor patio), and the service was incredibly good. Overall, it's a great restaurant, and I would highly recommend Royal India

5 Stars: Best Mojitos (by Denise 1)

Royal India has the best Mojitos I have tasted in San Diego. Perfectly balanced Mojito and I was told that the Mojitos at Royal India are made from special Indian Rum. Ambiance is very unique and elegant. The food is excellent specially the Herb Baked Salmon and kabuli nan( coconut raisins). The service was attentive and friendly. Great place to take a date or just to enjoy good Indian food with some friends. Thumbs up!

5 Stars: Love it..truly enjoyed (by hanah H)

What a nice surprise! My boyfriend and I had Sunday lunch here at this famous indian restaurant and truly enjoyed it. Everything was delicious from the soups to the popadams with their accompaniments. The staff was very in tune with their customers. The colorful Indian music and live plants throughout the patio, are a nice touch to what whole restaurant. Although we did not drink at brunch their drink menu is quite nice in regards to the wines and beers offered. It is nice to know of a good and mosrt famous restaurant in san diego downtown; which is somewhat liked by each and every person who visits here. We will definitely go back!

5 Stars: Satisfied must try... (by Gary P)

Very pleased with my last visit at Royal India. We went into to celebrate a birthday for my son. It is his favorite restaurant. The food is always good everytime I go but this time I tried something new. I always stick with my favorites every time I go out to eat but we all wanted to share our curries and I was motivated to try something different this time. The mutter paneer was so tasty. I haven't tried the paneer yet and I have been in the restaurant about 8 times already. My server described the paneer as a unique homemade mild Indian cheese. I was so satisfied that I want to go back again next week.

5 Stars: enchanting experience (by jamaica J)

My experience at Royal India was enchating. The restaurant from across the street looks more enviting. I was drawn towards the waterfall in the restaurant and the lights at the bar lead me their next. The bar was so nice and clean. We had just wanted to come in for drinks and appetizers. The bartender took wonderful care with us and gave us top attention. I enjoyed the selections on the drink menu and we choose coconut shrimp with chicken lettuce wraps and kabuli naan. The food was amazing. I was impressed how big and plump the coconut shrimp were. You can't even get it that good at an exclusive seafood restaurant. We didn't have room for dessert but should have made room. My eyes followed plates of dessert when I saw how nice the servers had presented them on the plates. Now I will have to come back just for dessert. We were impressed. I think the new it will be always a real hit.

5 Stars: Wonderful Service... Besides The Food.. (by jenny L)

You will become addicted with their garlic nan.
Be sure to try the wine from Sula Vineyards (imported from India) they carry a Sauvignon Blanc and a Shiraz, both are fantastic. And if wine is not your thing, they have a full bar, and they feature great varieties on the drink menu - woohoo!

The Shrimp Tandoori is excellent, and if they have a special, go for it, it always spot on.

Dinner is served with rice and the portions are great to share with a date. So both order an entree and try each others dishes. But make sure you save room for dessert.

The service is very warm and friendly. It's quiet right now because many restaurants lacks the proper mqanagement of visitors during the busy hours, but don't here you'll be always happy and no complains for sure. Go in and enjoy greatness..

5 Stars: Delicious, I mean absolutely delicious..... (by RONAK j)

The first thing you'll notice about Royal India is the aroma from the street. I smelled the restaurant from about a block away before I even had a glimpse of it.
I love Indian food. So much so that I'm afraid to try it out in San Diego because of my overwhelming expectation of being disappointed.
To my surprise, Royal India held its ground, firmly and impressively. Their Chicken Tikka Masala is delicious, but it was outdone by the even more flavorful Channa Masala, a vegetarian curry with garbanzo beans, garlic, tomato, and onion. It had just the right amount of spicy heat to make you go "Ooh" and then "Ahh" after the flavors settle in. The staff was friendly, the place had cool decor, the atmosphere was chill. They had some new age music playing in the background. We ate till our hearts content (and had plenty to take home!) in a beautiful setting.
I would definitely come here again in order to not only try other selections, but to also keep updating my reviews about it.

5 Stars: I am Impressed by this restaurant (by josh L)

I went to this Indian Restaurant and realized how delicious indian food is. And thats all because of the good quality and good quantity food. Well, I am concerned to sit on the computer and write about it so you can imagine how good the food was. The service was EXCELLENT. NO WORDS.. Though it was busy saturday night but still It didn't took them much time to seat me so that was very impressing to me. If you do go there please try there chicken tikka masala, and veg. bhajis. This is the only place where I got the papdums in the starting with the two different kinds of chutneys. They were amazing as since we were starving of hunger so that relievd us a bit. The service and servers were also too good and also our order didn't took much time to come and the spices were as per our requirement.. dats amazing.I cant handle too much spice so it was good for my tummy. Naan was soo fresh and soft. Saag paneer was not too oily at all - good for my tummy again it was equally dilicious. I wish to come here everyday.. Go to this place once and try the food once. ITS WORTH IT! I AM HOOKED!!!! whenever i go never feel like coming bak..... dnt miss. try fast :)

Two thumbs up for this Indian Restaurant. This is a great place. The owner was super nice, probably the nicest owner I have met. He was attentive also visited our table to make sure we are comfortable and having a wonderful time. The food was good. It was as per our spice level. We went on saturday evenings that's one of the busiest days, and restaurant was also very busy but still we were provided with the table 5 minutes later. This was awesome.Naan is reaaaaaaaallllllllllly good and fresh. In fact their menu of different Naan is quite impressive. There is a great selection of authentic Indian food served in generous portions with wonderful service.Food is EXCELLENT. No doubt about it, the authenticity of this place is unquestionable. The servers are all very nice. Great place to grab a bite. I will definately be back!

Thumbs up!

5 Stars: Great Family Place (by venessaroy)

5 Stars: The best restaurant in California (by carryw)

Coming from east coast we were looking for something unique and our friends recommended Royal India for the best Indian food. Royal India has dishes for all ages. Chicken garlic Kabab, Bengan bhartha (Eggplant dish done properly) Mango Pineapple curry for my son and Chicken tikka masala was the best with coconut nan and garlic nan. Royal India is a must restaurant not just for Indian food but for great experience also.

5 Stars: Perfect Anniversary dinner at Royal India. (by Angelica dawn)

I love Indian food and I have been to almost all the Indian restaurants in San Diego. My friends gave us Royal India gift certificates on our anniversary so we went to Royal India on our anniversary and made reservation ahead of time by e mail.Beautiful hostess sat us inside on a nice table. Server almost arrived immediately and brought champagne on the house ( that was a nice start ). We ordered Vegetable samosa and it was crispy and flavorful with mint chutney. We had Chicken garlic kabab which was served on a sizzling platter and lamb coconut curry that came with basmati rice and we ordered garlic Nan bread. All in all Royal India serve the best Indian food in San Diego. have eaten Indian food at many different restaurants and Royal India has by far the most authentic Indian food. Royal India is on the top of the list for the best Indian restaurants in the USA.
ALL THE BEST...

5 Stars: GREAT PLACE... (by Jennyp)

I recently ate at there restaurant also as was impressed after eating at their food court. They have some great ideas up their sleeve. For instance, you can order martinis and margaritas prepared with India's famous "Old Monk" rum.

Also, they have innovative entrees. I was particularly impressed with the eggplant dish (baingan bharta) as well as the vegetables in chilly gravy. You also get chilly naans which is a brilliant idea.
The rice was also impressive as it was perfectly cooked al dente and seasoned very nicely. Of course we did not finish the meal and had delicious leftovers and were surprised that the cost was not much higher. This food was fantastic and well worth the money. We thought the service was exemplary, our waitress was one of the best I have had in SD, and we rewarded her well for her helpfulness. If the price is an issue, try one of their express chains or the $12 lunch buffet. I will do both and come back for dinner because I was very impressed. This food rivaled the Indian food that I had in the Little India's in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur just last month! But didn't quite beat them out.
All in all, you can have a really good time here. The starters were also very good, specially samosas and pakoras. The main course and dessert were great. We had great and friendly service. The food was hit and miss.
you'll just love it! must visi THE EXQUISITE INDIAN CUISINE

5 Stars: Delicious (by georgeW)

This is probably the best Indian food that we have ever had. We went there for birthday dinner with the idea that when it's your birthday, why go where you know, try something different. The food was superb!
Their naan is fresh and piping hot and the decor is very high-end and relaxing. I would definitely go back to this place. I had the lamb korma, but our party of six ordered a variety of dishes and everyone loved their food. The waitress was very kind and generous. She was very thorough in explaining each dish and making recommendations, all which turned out to be perfect. The best part is- the food is served as per your spice level, Another bonus was that we went at 8pm on a Saturday and there was *gasp* NO WAIT! We got the booth near waterfall, that was awesome!!!!!!
The best, comfortable dinner we ever had ...
Three cheers for Royal India.... :):):)

4 Stars: Jag and Sam ROCK!!!! (by deadbeatdad)

I really shouldn't list any "cons" about this fine restaurant. Sam and Jag have four locations around San Diego and the food is top notch. I cook a LOT of Indian food at home from scratch so I can tell when care goes into the recipes and when they are just throwing some curry base into a pan to crank out mediocre dishes. This place knows what they're doing. I have eaten a number of the different curries here and they have all been really good. The chutneys are fresh and I love the mint/cilantro chutney that comes to the table. Fresh, spicy and delicious. The tandoori dishes are very good. They have a great marinade/rub that they use and the flavors are fresh and the meat quality is good. My only complaint is that the breads are small and at $4-5 each, they should overlap the basket like they do in many restaurants, it's only a handful of atta or all purpose flour after all, so why not impress people? I can highly recommend their restaurants and will continue to visit regularly. There are a half dozen Indian eateries downtown, but this is by far the best! Keep up the good work guys!!!

5 Stars: Royal India did wonderful catering on my wedding (by Rachelcooper329)

I wanted the best Indian food for my wedding because my husband's parents are from India and we picked Royal India in down town because we have tried many Indian restaurants and we found Royal India to be the best amongst the lot. The on site tandoor with exceptional decoration and live sitar and tabla music and buffet setup we loved it all.
When we went to the restaurant to settle the bill we were asked to share our experience with others and I thought of writting on the net.
I can not thank anymore when I told the owners to give special attantion because I want my mother in law to be impressed and she was really impressed and I am glad we picked Royal India to cater the wedding.

5 Stars: Royal India taken Indian food to a whole new level! (by mdave29)

I have grown up eating Indian food all my life and this is the best I've ever had. I've been to other Indian restaurants in the area and had a decent experience. But Royal India takes it to a whole new level. The ambience and service were excellent! But the food is unbelievable. After having our onion bhaji, we ordered another round! They were that good. I had the chicken tikki masala as my main entree (spicy) and it blew my mind away. I really liked my spinach nan as well. Even the Martinis were amazing. Run; do not walk, to this restaurant. You will not be disappointed!

I really enjoyed the dinner I had at Royal India, and felt that it was well worth the money. I tried the veggie samosas which were yummy. The chickpeas and eggplant with poori bread were quite impressive as well. I really liked their masala chai as well.
5 Stars: A delightful meal with a smile! (by patel117)

Royal India restaurant was recommended by the chief concierge at Manchester Hyatt and we are so pleased that I had to comeback and write something about it. The food is far far better than any other Indian restaurant I have visited in San Diego, and on top of that the Managers know the food and explain to the fullest with a pleasant smile. I would recommend the restaurant to any one who wants to enjoy a delightful meal with a smile

We had a limited menu so I can't comment for a whole menu, but for what it was the food was excellent and anticipating great experience on my return. The office was honoring our CEO from overseas and he is a hard man to please but Royal India did a great job. The ambiance was very impressive. The staff shined and the overall experience was an A+. Our event coordinator (Paola) was very impressed.

5 Stars: I'm just envisioning going back time and again (by Ashok11)

I simply can't get enough of Royal India for the best Indian food I have ever had. I mean, I've only been once for a friend's birthday but now I'm just envisioning going back time and again. First there is the design, truly impressive. Lots of stone work, deep wood work and plush reds carpet. I love that you can understand the menu it is brief with description. Then there mojitos -- I am a bit of a mojito snob but they have awesome drinks and they really do a good job of getting a cross section. Third, there is the food. Wow! A great variety of flavors, mostly authentic flavors and, large portions. Basically there is something for everyone and from what I could tell it's all good. I was with a pretty large party so we ordered a lot of little things which means I was able to try a lot and each dish was better than the next. And speaking of parties, I know we were a pain, but our server was just a doll. She was really on top of it and gave us space but was there when we needed... I will definitely be going back, and when I learned that they have a private room, well it made me want an excuse for a party!

5 Stars: Amazing experience on our anniversary at Royal India (by Julie1234)

My mother in law from Chicago gave us the gift certificate for dinner at Royal India and the certificate was mailed by the management to our address in San Diego. We were seated at the anniversary special booth by the waterfall and the experience was wonderful that I thought I must express my views. The mojitos and papadum were delicious to start with. My favorite Lamb Korma and Mango Chicken with spicy prawn chilli ginger curry and nan breads were amazing. What a curry and what an evening. Our best anniversary dinner in ten years.
Thanks for making our anniversary dinner so special with the best Indian food in San Diego.

5 Stars: Company dinner at Royal India was awsome (by Jason1234)

I am a consultant living in San Francisco. I just finished a 3 week project in San Diego and once again admired your city and enjoyed great restaurant Royal India during our company dinner in the Gaslamp.

Our company dinner at Royal India was one of the best dinner our company has ever had. There are many Indian restaurants in San Francisco so our company CEO picked Royal India in the gaslamp for our dinner.

We were served Indian Mojito and Mango Martini for drinks and as appetizers Shrimp Pakora, Garlic mint chicken pakora, Samosa with chutneys was absolutely delicious and crisp. That was the best Mojito I have ever had and refreshing mango martini was superb.

The dinner was Lamb Korma, Mango pineapple chicken, vegetable chilli ginger, chicken garlic kabab and chicken chilli masala. assortment of breads. We all agree that even though there are lot of Indian restaurants in San Francisco but the food served by Royal India was by far the best Indian food we have had.

The owners were were very accommodating and did champagne toast with us. I wish Royal India had a branch in San Francisco , I would eat there daily.

Thanks a lot Royal India for great drinks, curry, service and setup.

After eating at Royal India, I came to a conclusion that it was the best food I've had this whole year, the best Mojito I've ever tasted and not to mention one of the most outstanding services provided!
5 Stars: We experienced Great Indian food and wonderful service at Royal India (by Amy1Butterzan)

I met a girl friend downtown for lunch and we wanted to try Indian restaurant. We tried Lunch Buffet at Royal India for a change of pace. There was a decent variety and the food looked fresh. Couple of Salads, Yogurt dressing and tandoori chicken with fresh nan bread would have been enough for me in $12 but there were 5 or 6 different Indian curries. Sambosas, Rice and desserts. All in all awsome quality and taste. Our server was female, and extremely attentive. The food was very good, and my friend and I had a wonderful visit together. When I got home I telephoned the restaurant to let them know how very pleasant our server was. Too many times people complain about poor service and fail to acknowledge good service. At this restaurant we experienced both great Indian food and wonderful service.

The service and quality of Royal India restaurant go far beyond what is on offer in San Diegos Gas lamp. If you want to have a classy, romantic night out then look no further. The food is fantastic. We had an incredible meal.
5 Stars: Extraordinary in Every Way!! (by puald93)

My husband and I live in the San Diego region and have been to Royal India twice in the past few weeks. The first time was at the recommendation of the owner of the SD Wine and Culinary Institute. He said Royal India was one of his favorites. That night I had the Lamb korma and it was one of the best korma I've had in 30 years of eating well throughout the US, Europe, and India. Last night we took my husband's sister. She's from Kansas and not familiar with Indian food at all. We shared the Mango soup (makes you moan with pleasure), Royal bread basket (Coconut Nan is the best) as an appetizers. They were all EXCELLENT. As entrees, my sister-in-law loved her Chicken tikka masala. My husband had the tandoori Salmon and loved it, and I very much enjoyed the Chicken korma-wonderful! We also thought the bottle of Simi Chardonnay we had with dinner was delicious. The service was excellent from start to finish in both our experiences, and the people who helped us were each fascinating and friendly. Since my sister-in-law and I were there celebrating our Dec birthdays, they gave us a complimentary Champagne. Royal India is one of those must try restaurants!!

5 Stars: Royal India is up there amongst the best in Europe and USA for good Indian food (by DrLoomba)

I m an Indian working in medicine in San Diego. This is the first time I am writing usually I do not comment but wow I was impressed and thought I must express myself about Royal India and its Indian food. I dine out 10 times in a month at San Diego's marvelous restaurants. Royal India trumps them all. In my 30's and having dined in some outstanding restaurants in Europe and USA I can honestly say Royal India is up there with the best of them for a total dining experience. My wife and I selected the special menu Royal Dinner for two...marvelous food, exquisite appetizer Samosa, Chicken Chilli ginger , Chicken Garlic Kabab, onion Nan... all of the highest quality. excellent presentation and service. We ended our dinner with Gulab Jaman dessert and it was great dinner. Only criticism ...and it is minor we had to drive couple of rounds for parking. I strongly recommend this restaurant. World class and deserving of congratulations and support. I will be back.

We, the management and owners of Royal India restaurants are deeply saddened to learn that one of our competitors had stooped to the levels of hostile insanity and has been impersonating as one of our ex-employees and posting reviews in an impetuous effort to hinder the reputation of our company.

We do not intend to indulge in this unprofessional and vindictive attitude of our business rivals but instead continue focusing on the raising the bar for the quality of Indian food in southern California along with exceptional standards of hospitality to all our customers who have been very loyal to Royal India for years now due to their own first hand experience.

5 Stars: Great Experience!! (by Mark E.)

My Girlfriend and I were staying in downtown Marriot San Diego. We came to San Diego for a Vacation and to watch Chargers game. When we asked the concierge, Royal India was one of the few restaurants they recommended. Not much familiar with Indian cuisine we thought we will give royal India a try. So we went to Royal India since it was only two blocks away from Marriot. We were thoroughly pleased with the whole experience. We told the waitress when we were seated that we were not much familiar with the Indian cuisine. So on her recommendations we ordered Veggie Samosa, Chicken tikka Masala, Lamb Rogan Josh and Garlic Nan and we ordered it medium spicy. I can assure it was the best meal of my life. Fresh and full of flavors and spiced just right. Our waitress Lisa was very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and professional. We also enjoyed the extensive cocktail menu; a sweet, icy mojito was just what I needed to get in the right spirit for the Game! The restaurant has a very warm and elegant look to it. I will absolutely return to Royal India.

I have never been to a party with Indian D J bollywood style in San Diego and my friend told me about Royal India organizing a D J party for New Year so I bought ticket for myself and my wife. Being from India I really wanted to have some Indian style fun and dance. It was a house full party we did not expect so many people for an Indian party. We had dinner the the menu was Samosa, Tandoori Chicken, two salads, Chicken tikka masala, lamb curry, channa masala, Indian noodles , Chilli paneer and desserts during the dinner there was live singing and the the food was delicious but the D J party is going to be in our memories for long time. Almost 150 people on the dance floor from the beginning to end. Few people had brought their American friends and it was great to see them dancing Indian style as well. WOOO we could not stop dancing and the drinks in the bar was awsome. New year eve toast and all the dance is unforgettable night. Thanks you Royal India and wish you a successful 2009.

5 Stars: Great experience!!! (by marked111)

5 Stars: Simply Amazing! (by Jason B.)

I have been to many Indian Restaurants around the world, it is absolutely by far my favorite cuisine. In no other cuisine worldwide are so many spices used in various different ways. At Royal India, they seem to know how to combine thousands of spices to make a delicious dish. The Korma Chicken is the one Dish that makes me go back to again and again. Never anywhere else have i tried a Dish like this one. Mmmmmmmm yummy yummy yummy

I recently moved here from London and was looking for a good Indian restaurant in Gaslamp, and all the people i asked, recommended Royal India to me.
5 Stars: Lunch Buffet for $12 was a hearty satisfying experience. (by John D.)

It was a hearty and satisfying experience.

?Seems like the real deal for good Indian food?
Ate here last night and it was very good - their tandoori stuff come on sizzling platter WOW Thats cool, really cool. Nice selections of curries and - the best tasting Nan I have ever had. Everyone spoke of Royal India for Indian food at my work. Had a chicken garlic kabab which was obviously freshly made. Very nice hostess and waiters - great people. Would recommend this to everyone.

5 Stars: Next time Royal India will be the reason to visit San Diego. IT WAS REALLY DELICIOUS (by Dav11)

Visiting from Chicago we were looking for a good restaurant in San Diego and the concierge at Hotel Del Recommended Royal India. After whole day on the beach in coronado we decided to go to Royal India in the Gaslamp of Down town San Diego. Royal India is a beautiful Indian restaurant. The decor is very elegant. It looks like the designer did fantastic job on it. It's a designer restaurant.
My kids ordered Mango Pineapple curry served with rice.
Myself and John ordered Spicy Lamb Rogan Josh and Wine Garlic Curry with chicken.
My kids loved it so much that Julia said Indian food in Chicago does not taste the same this is really good. This is delicious mommy. Its better then pasta.
Our lamb Rogan Josh was very flavorful and tender meats and we had it with onion Nan. Chicken Garlic Nan was fantastic we never had that dish in any Indian restaurant before.
All I want to say is that My family enjoyed Royal India the most during our stay in Sn Diego. Next time Royal India will be the reason to visit San Diego. IT WAS REALLY DELICIOUS. Only reason I am writing is that I am so happy because my kids finished the whole dish and in Chicago they do not even want to go to Indian restaurants.
Fantastic experience and its amazing, the best meal during visit to San Diego was at Royal India.

5 Stars: Mesmerizing aromas made our best anniversary dinner at Royal India (by recharlton)

I love Indian food and I have been to almost all the Indian restaurants in San Diego. My friends gave us Royal India gift certificates on our anniversary so we went to Royal India on our anniversary and made reservation ahead of time by e mail.
Beautiful hostess sat us inside on a nice table.
Everything was absolutely fantastic and full of flavor. We absolutely loved our dinner and enjoyed our 10th anniversary dinnerat Royal India.
The ambiance is very romantic and relaxing and the service is superb.
Must try Royal India in the gaslamp.

My Girlfriend and I have been to Royal India restaurant 3 times in the last 4 months and are planning to go again this weekend for our anniversary. Royal India is the perfect romantic restaurant in the Gaslamp. Great bar- indoor and outdoor seating. The food is exquisite and service is top-notch. Great wine list. If there was something there that we would fault it would be the dessert menu; we have eaten most of the desserts and the only one I love is the Pistachio Ice Cream.

4 Stars: Royal India stands above all others for my taste (by John W.)

Being a big fan Indian food, I've been to quite a few Indian restaurants in San Diego including others in Hillcrest & Downtown, & have to say this one is probably the best one in San Diego. It's on market street and 4th in the gaslamp, but the food at Royal India is very flavorful and delicious. I heard making good curry takes lot of time and skill because it take lot of different spices to make good curry and Royal India stands above all others.

It's near the convention center and horton plaza in down town and I would recommend to park in horton plaza ans walk from there to the market street.

I highly recommend Royal India for a romantic dinner and sit next to the water fall.

5 Stars: We were utterly happy at Royal India (by Aliciajones11)

5 Stars: Great Tasting And Good Quality Buffet. (by sades11)

I along with few of few of my colleges went to Royal India for a lunch meeting. We really enjoyed the fresh tasting great food. The Buffet was not as vast as in Indian restaurants in other cities but it was still better than all the Indian buffets I have been to in Downtown area. We really liked their Tandoori chicken and Onion Bhaji and the fresh Nan served on the table was the highlight of the buffet. I am not big on deserts but my friends really liked the Shahi Mango. On the whole, we all were really impressed with the quality of the buffet at Royal India.

5 Stars: Service was beyond prompt and extremely professional (by Lilya A.)

My husband and I just had dinner at Royal India tonight for the first time. The service was beyond prompt and extremely professional. As soon as we got the Papadum, I knew we were in for a treat. It was crisp and freshly-baked right there in the restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly our food arrived! Let me highly recommend the Lamb Korma with a Paneer Nan. The meat is so incredibly tender and sauce is delicious . Every bite melts in your mouth. My husband ordered it and I ate nearly half of his! I had the Lobster Tikka Masala with a garlic Nan and it was also divine. The Kheer(Rice Pudding) for dessert was delicious. Our waiter checked on us often and refilled our glasses frequently. What a great dining experience, we'll definitely be going back...soon.

5 Stars: Finally there is a good Indian restaurant in San Diego (by Ashley W.)

I have been in San Diego for three years and moved from San Francisco. In last three years I tried Indian food in almost every Indian restaurant in San Diego from Mira Mesa to Down Town San Diego because I love Indian food and I am really picky about my curry but could not get good curry with real flavor and taste in San Diego. Last week I saw one Indian restaurant featured in Union Tribune so I went to try Royal India Exquisite Indian Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge in down town San Diego at 329 Market Street, San Diego, CA 92101 www.royalindia.com. I can say finally found a good Indian restaurant in San Diego. An excellent ambiance gave a picture of palaces of India. Very beautiful arches with some kind of Mosaic stone work on it. Very beautiful hand carved wooden full bar. Beautiful stone work with niches in it, Large Water fall and huge chandlers. Over all number one and the best Indian restaurant I have ever seen and I have been to one of the Best Indian restaurants from East coast to west coast.
Main thing is we wanted to try different items from what most Indian restaurants serve the food I tried Chicken mango Pineapple curry, Lamb Chili Ginger masala, Chicken Garlic Kabab which was served on sizzler with Paneer Nan which is stuffed with spiced Indian cheese in Nan Bread and from fresh to flavor it was exceptionally food. Mango Pineapple curry was so good we ordered second one and Garlic Kabab was really tender. We tried Rus Malai dessert which was superb. Myself, my wife and our friend Dr. Kingdrew loved our Indian food and we will be back again to Royal India.

5 Stars: Must Try Royal India, Simply the best (by Lana S.)

During biology convention in San Diego we wanted Indian food and the concierge at Marriott recommended Royal India which is few blocks away. The ambience was serene elegant with waterfall and nice decor. The service was professional and food was very flavorful.

We ordered unique curries like White wine curry and lamb shank was with paneer nan. It was the best Indian food we have ever had because of the flavor, taste and portions.

Mango martini was awsome

Royal India is located at 329 Market Street and 4th avenue.

Not authentic, Food is very bland. The decor is nice, but the food is not. I would not recommend it to people who know exactly what Indian food tastes like. Our Menu Garlic Chicken and Herb rubbed salmon on Sizzling platters yummy samosas with mint chutney, white wine chicken garlic curry, lamb shank mixed vegetable ginger sautee garlic nan finished with Shahi Mango dessert.
5 Stars: Its always fantastic (by johnlandu)

We live downtown and have tried them all. We held off on this place for a bit and went when my very well-traveled old man came to town.

I can only think of one other place where I have had anything close to this and it was at some highly-regarded place in Hong Kong (Admiral's Club?--don't remember).

The braised lamb shank was exceptional in evey way. Ordering Chicken Tikka Masala was the last thing I wanted to do (like going for Thai and getting Pad Thai--there are other gems on a menu) but the waiter recommended it even after he got the impression that we knew our Tikka Masala from our Vindaloo. Get the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Lamb Shank then take the leftovers home so your kitchen can smell like curry @ 11:00 p.m. when you reheat it later that night.

Royal India's vegetarian menu is huge and food is excellent. We tried Paneer Pakora( Cheese Fritters) and Onion Bhaji . The mint and tamarind chutneys are a great compliment to the appetizers and are delicious. We loved their Veggie Korma and Malai kofta with Garlic nan and Paneer Nan. It was simply the best!!!
5 Stars: Great Food and Very Timely (by mbsdcs)

I stopped in and ate at Royal India this week with a co-worker and we were both in a rush but wanted a good meal so we decided to try something different and had Indian food. I had not eaten Indian food in quite awhile but this definately turned me back on to the cuisine. I had the chicken kabobs and we shared the spinach appetizer that was also very tastey. I will definately be back soon-

5 Stars: Solid overall performace (by debby g.)

Very friendly service with follow up and delicious and nicely presented Indian food which can be ordered "hot" according to taste. The Tandoori Salmon was perfectly cooked. Chicken tikka masala tastes delicious and the garlic nan is great. A must visit, especially after days of continental/california etc cuisine. Restaurant is very clean and well decorated. Highly recommended.

3 Stars: Lunch Buffet- Decent selection a little bland though (by jomarkumar423)

This is strictly a review of their lunch buffet, which I know is much different than ordering from the menu, so please keep that in mind when reading this. About 2.5 weeks ago, my wife and I met up with some friends for the lunch buffet at Royal India. We had heard many great things about their food, and were excited to check out their lunch buffet. The restaurant was pretty empty, though, being so close to the holiday season may have explained this. Aesthetically the restaurant was very nice, and the servers were very attentive (considering we were one of 3 parties there). The buffet itself was pretty common- naan, rice, a couple of vegetable dishes (saag, pakora, samosas) and a few meat dishes (tikka masala, lamb, tandoori chicken). The food was a bit bland, I imagine to cater to American taste buds, but still tasty. I actually enjoyed the vegetable dishes more than the other dishes. For dessert they had mango pudding and rice pudding. It was sweet and delicious. The price was very reasonable as well, especially since this is a downtown restaurant. All in all, not too bad. My wife and I would probably take people there who are used to less spicy/flavorful Indian food.

1 Stars: service lacking (by sovi)

Decided to try this restaurant for lunch on a week there happened to be a big convention in town. We were looking forward to the buffet that was advertised on their sign outside. We waited for about 20 minutes in line outside. Once we were seated, we realized that the restaurant didn't seem to know how to handle the extra business. There were no fresh naans. They served pita bread from the local grocery story. There was no tandoori chicken. And the veggies were running out both time I went up there. The food was all served on paper plates. None of them matched. The sodas were served in styrafoam cups. We asked if they had any real naan that we could order, and the waiter informed us that if he gave it to us, he would have to give it to everyone. It was no better than fast food.

3 Stars: Good service. Okay food. (by desigrad)

Wow, I didn't think this restaurant had such good reviews. We were there for dinner a couple of days ago. The positives: Service - We had a good server who new more about the dishes than most waiters I've had at Indian restaurants and she was prompt in bringing in the dishes.
Appetizers: The samosas were bland and small. Chutney was more sour than spicy (but similar to other Indian restaurants). Pakoras were better but not great.
Main dishes: We ordered Baingan bharta and Paneer tikka masala - both dishes were tasty. The waitress asked us the level of spicy and we opted for American hot - turned out to be rather mild. She did give us extra red chili paste but that just masks the taste so I don't like to add it to the dish.
Nan was good. Portions are quite good. We could have managed with one dish and one nan as they give unlimited rice with the dish.
Cost: It cost us around $80 for two - which was costly for us - but I guess it's normal for San Diego. Still $4 for samosas is not worth it.

My Favorite Royal India an upscale Indian restaurant features tandoori (clay oven) and Karahi (Indian wok) items prepared with only the freshest ingredients. Tandoori murg, a half-chicken marinated in yogurt and spices, is the house specialty. In addition to meat and poultry, numerous vegetarian options are available. Curry, of course, is omnipresent. The subdued interior ? gauze drapery partitions, Indian art, light woods, and fine linens ? offers a wonderful setting in which to dine.

5 Stars: Royal India-Truly Royal and the Best (by 1richw)

We are great fans of Indian food. We have been going to royal India for an exquisite dinning experience for past Six months or so. And the food and service there is great and always consistant. We recently discovered there Monday Nite Buffet, exellent quality and alot of choices. The Nans are served fresh on the tables and there Tandoori Chicken is so fresh and Moist unlike Other buffets in Down town. Everything in the buffet is Really good but my Favourite items in the buffet are the Samosas, Palak Paneer(Spinach and Cheese) and Lamb Keema Matter(Minced Lamb). The Perfect end to the buffet is the Mango Homemade Rice Pudding, Yummy Mango Moouse deserts and fresh fruits. No wonder Royal India won the Best Buffet award in City Search Polls. No matter how busy they are we are always seated and served promptly. We have tried other restaurants in downtown area too but nothing comeseven close to Royal India's Ambience, Food quality and Service. I would recommend Royal India to Everyone. Try it once and you will be a fan of Royal India as well

5 Stars: Royal India- a nice retreat from the ordinary (by tino_c)

I love Indian food and expected to have a great choice of Indian food when I moved to San Diego in 2006. Then I started to look for one... I asked the locals, I reviewed the reviews and took a chance again and again; but nothing that wowed me.Then came Royal India ,The atmosphere was breath taking, yet simple. Traditional yet elegant and our service was friendly and attentive. And the food, well, it was the freshest, cleanest flavors I have tasted with any Indian food. Every bite was a tasteful morsal. My friends also said wow many times. There was not one thing that any of us did not think was well above the price. By the time we were done, each person paid less than $35 out their pocket and it was the truly best Indian food I have had in SD. Royal India is truly the best of the best.

2 Stars: Royal India not so Royal (by brettrichards)

Seven of us went to Royal India for the Monday night buffet. One of my colleagues recommended the place.

We were seated right away due to the fact that no one else was in the place. We all ordered the Monday Night Buffet. After a hard day of work and no lunch for any of us we needed to chow down.

I had some chicken and beef and it didn't taste right at all. The curry was too...bland. I pretty much tried everything I could and the seasoning was off. Everyone at the table kept muttering the taste wasn't there. One of my friends went so far as to leave and get coffee at Starbucks and wait for us outside. I've never seen him do that before and he loves Indian food.

We've all eaten at Masayla, Monsoon and Bombay and the food there is much better and the service is stellar. I finally had to get up and fill everyone's water glass. That isn't something I want to do after a hard day.

My friends and I are going to the competition and get REAL Indian food.

For a restaurant called Royal India we didn't feel like royality.

5 Stars: Most impressive (by 1kmoss)

Most impressive. Upon entering Royal India, the first thing I noticed was their beautifully hand carved Mahogany bar. I loved the style and the music playing while I enjoyed my cocktail.

After my friends arrived, we headed to the fountain room seating area. The decor was beautiful. It had an airy feeling with the tall ceilings, but also contained a feeling of intimacy.

The food was excellent. Everything we ordered was fantastic. The perfect amount of spice and flavor. A few of the dishes I recommend are the Mango Pineapple Lobster, the chicken korma curry, and the paneer nan

The portions are superb, the Executive Chefs and owners, I beleive there names are Sam and Jag, are without a doubt the most personable and helpful chefs I have ever encountered! They guided us through the extensive menu with such flair and grace. They actually seemed to know our tastes and needs just from speaking to us for no more than 10 mins, I know the food but my guests had never had Indian food before. To say they were impressed would be an understatment! FIRST RATE!!!!!!! YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!

5 Stars: Doctors meeting organized by Physer was a great event with delicious food and awsome decor (by adriaross)

In june Physer had set up a meeting at Royal India the the physicians n San Diego and there were about 138 of us. The valet parking was right in front of the restaurant and myself and my wife went to attend the meeting. Royal India at 329 Market street is a huge restaurant with large waterfall and three banquet halls. The best part is service and food. There were about 10 staff members serving the appetizers in trays and chutneys in the middle. We tried Fish pakora and Little samosas and full bar was available including gold and blue lable scotch, Jack and coke and vodka drinks it was superb.
After snacks we had a presentation by physer and Royal India has state of the art projectors, wireless audio and screens and best part is it is quite open restaurant almost 200 seater and large patios.
After the lecture Indian royalty was server and truly a real Indian food with lots of flavor, Fresh nans were awsome. We had Rus Malai as dessert.
On the whole it was the best venue Physer has picked for Physicians so far. We requested Royal India for next meeting by physer abd are going to be in Royal India in down town on July 27th again. Love Royal India.

It is hard to miss this restaurant if you are in down town San Diego in the Gaslamp area. A large patio and very close to Horton plaza mall. My experience say there is only one Royal India if you want the taste of traditional north Indian cuisine. The serivice is exceptional and the ambience is so soothing. I have tasted quiet a few entrees on the menu and must say, they prepare it just the right way. The food has a good balance of Indian spices and not creamy as well. I was there last weekend and learnt the owners are executive chefs as well and their mom help make the recipes, Royal India has family recipes . I just freaked out on Sag Paneer, Baigan Bharta and their Chicken T. Masala's. A must go for all you Indain food lovers. Royal India is one of the best Indian restaurant i have ever eaten all around the world. The food is of GREAT Quality. This is infact the only restaurant I would pick anyday to go to when I need to chill out. The Food is excellent, the service great and the management most cordial.I cant imagine why anyone would not like Royal India. We went over almost after they almost closed once and the management opened the doors for us even though it was quite late.I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good food at reasonable prices. All my friends too prefer this place.

5 Stars: No jokes! Royal India's food, gosh it taste really good. but its not only about food the atmosphere is great too. (by adianakehret)

No jokes! Royal India restaurant is the best around here when it comes to indian cuisine I know because I have eaten in all of them. If you talk only about food, gosh it taste really good. but too bad this isn't only about food the atmosphere is great, it is large restaurant with three halls so you don't find yourself in the middle of the noise. the decoration are just gorgeous, the price is good also, and most of all the service is really great. the waiter will be always nice, at your service and ready to give you some advice. To make it short a good place to go with your friends, or girlfriend if you want to enjoy the taste of THE INDIAN FOOD!

I am delighted to have found Royal India during our show in San Diego! The food is exquisite, the staff is very affable, and the ambience is perfect for romance. It's not over crowded and there is a comfortable amount of lighting. I was very pleased with this restaurant. Being health conscious I ordered Chicken Garlic Kabab and my business associate Ron ordered Lamb Kabab. It was the best Indian food we have ever had. The Flavor and the freshness and quality of meat say it all. I would recommend Royal India to anybody who appreciates good food and great service.

Visiting San Diego from New York we Step into Royal India and explored the fine cuisine of India. The pleasantly designed, gracious Indian decor is a perfect accompaniment to the fine cuisine. Gracious service and elegance in decor made feel special, we admired the large portraits, waterfall, wooden bar , custom arches and unique stone work. fresh, fragrant foods tempt the senses. The knowledgeable server asked which curries we wanted mild, medium or spicy because all entrees are made-to-order. We ordered Chicken Garlic kabab and Butter chicken curry with Nan bread and it was an excellent value. It was a perfect meal for two at Royal India in Gaslamp.

5 Stars: "Royal India A Great looking restaurant with decicious food and courteous service" (by preetk)

We went to Royal India in a group of 17 for womens night out. Upon entering we all looked at each other and it was WOW a very classy upscale large restaurant and we prefered to be seated on a large booth. Very comfortable seating and tables looked beautiful with fresh flowers in the middle of every table with a beautiful candle on everytable. Royal India has large variety of Vegetarian, seafood, Chicken and Lamb curries and kababs and really good drinks that compliment Indian food. We ordered different items so we all could share. The items we ordered were Chicken lettuce wrap and Veggi samosas for appetizers and Indian Mojitos and Mango Lassi as drinks and the appetizers were mind blowing and drinks perfect. for main course we ordered 2 dishes each of Bengan Bharta an eggplant dish, Lobster korma, Lamb Rogan josh, Chicken Garlic Kabab, Tandoori Shrimps, lamb biryani a rice speciality with bread basket the real opinion coming out of all of us is fantastic. The taste in each dish was very authentic and we just cannot pick any one item. It was all awesome. We have had Indian food before but what a presentation and service and FANTASTIC food. I think there is not match to Royal India. We had a great evening. Royal India is on top of the list for Indian food for our parties now.

5 Stars: A memorable evening at Royal India in the Gaslamp (by cyong1901)

If you like good Indian food and are with a great company then take my personal advise to go to Royal India in the Gaslamp on 4th and market. My personal experience at Royal India was superb and unforgettable. I met Sony during her visit from UK to San Diego who is here for an internship in Nephrology in UCSD. During our Lunch on in UCSD lunch was delivered by Royal India and Sony loved the food so I wanted to surprise her by taking her to Royal India's fine dinning. Upon arriving we valet our parking right in front of the restaurant and walked inside. We were amazed at the decor. On the left side there is large waterfall with Indian Brass large statues sitting inside beautiful stone work and then there is a large wall that has arch shape and very beautiful stone work done on it we landed in the lounge room that has a beautiful hand carved wooden bar and right side of the restaurant has very unique and beautiful stonework wall. On the whole it is very elegantly designed restaurant which you do not get to see often. We ordered Mango Soup and chicken lettuce wrap as starters and for main course we had Karahi Chicken and Lamb kabab with Garlic nan and basmati rice came with it. Mango soup was really delicious with cumin and corriander taste in it and Lettuce wrap was made with chicken tikka kabab sliced and sauted with curry and served on top of lettuce leaves. Our main course Karahi chicken was flavourful tender chicken cooked with bell peppers and sliced onions and tomatoes and Lamb Kabab marinated in yogurt and spices just melts in your mouth it was awsome and Garlic Nan bread was just lip smacking. On the whole it was the greatest Indian meal we have had. Sony said the food was even better then Indian food in UK and for ambience Royal India is the best Indian restaurant she has ever been to. We look forward to going back to Royal Indian again.

5 Stars: Magnificent ambience and Fantastic curry (by christina s.)

I must admit, this was my first time trying real Indian cuisine. Feeling adventurous, and highly recommended by my co workers I indulged in a fun and pleasurable exploration of taste at Royal India an Exquisite Indian cuisine and cocktails in the Gaslamp area of San Diego located at 329 Market street, a place that definitely lived up to its name Royal. The Curry was not Americanized but authentic which is unique which makes the taste and quality really good. Large restaurant was about half full when we arrived there on thursday night. We parked on 2nd avenue parking lot which is just two blocks and walking distance from Royal India and paid $5 parking fee. We were greeted and seated by hostess and immediately server filled up our glass of water. Server was attentive and came to us in couple of minutes and we asked her about her favorite food and she told us that she eat Chicken tikka masala at Royal India every time she work. She said grills take bit longer because they are roasted in the clay oven fresh and not pre cooked meats just reheated. Since restaurants are all about food we did not mind if it took longer for our food because we wanted fresh and the best.
The last time I had curry was with disastrous results. I had decided to swear off it. Many years later, I decided to cast fate to the wind and tried the most popular item at Royal India Chicken Tikka Masala with Garlic Nan and my friend ordered Lamb kabab and that was fantastic and well worth it for us to try the most delicious Indian food, as they are prepared with much care and time at Royal India as per the server . The curry was fresh and not too overwhelming in flavor, the chicken was tender Im glad I decided to open my taste buds again to this wondrous treat as Im sure many curry lovers (or newcomers) would attest! Royal India gave friendly service, beautiful palace like atmosphere yet the prices are modest.
Rice pudding that leaves a great, satisfying sensation after a hearty, spicy meal. Keep an open mind and palate, and be ready for an evening of great, exotic food at Royal India! We will be back.

5 Stars: Royal India a quite handsome restaurant with an eye-catching decor (by dnelson329)

I found a quite handsome restaurant called Royal India located on Market street in down town San Diego, and in addition to an eye-catching decor that includes a gently flowing water sculpture and other attractions, the Indian food served at Royal India takes diners on a nice tour of the Indian Kitchen. So I decided to take my wife on our anniversary to Royal India.
Choice of appetizer which include Paneer Pakora, Onion Bhaji and Chicken lettuce wrap set the mood with Indian Mojito and Mango Martini which are made fresh to order and are superb.
Freshly baked breads are simply fluffy- textured Nan which are absolutly essential to an Indian meal, are offered at Royal India with profusion, along with numerous house curry specialties, familiar curry preparations and assorted meats and seafood cooked in a mesquite charcoal-heated tandoor.
Cooking Chicken Tikka Masala can be a tricky process and Royal India's Executive chefs and owners Sandeep Kambo (Sam) and Jagdeep Kambo (Jag) make it the best with Chicken marinated in Yogurt and spices then cooked with tomato and curry with touch of cream and the seasoning which Kambo Brothers mix and blend themselves is key to it and that flavour is the one that brought me back, the same curry can be cooked with Paneer (Homemade farmers cheese mixed with spices) the curry at Royal India can be mild or volcanic according to taste just let your server know your choice.
Other pleasures that issue from the oven include the spicy lemon-chili kabab which also is flavoured with pungent fresh ginger and a garlic kabab with fresh cilantro and other herbs. Lamb Kabab is so tender that it melts in your mouth.
We ended our meal with Pistacho Ice cream and my wife had Mango Mousse. What a lovely treat. Thank you Royal India.

2 Stars: Bad service, Great Food (by nicholeelisabeth)

We had a 7:30PM reservation and were promptly seated by a nice hostess. That was the end of the good service.

We didn't get our first drink (bud lights) until about 8PM. When it came to getting a refill on the drinks we had to go to the bar ourselves, where the bartender was helpful, but not appologetic. Our server was nice, but did NOT attend to the table, we didn't have the kind of fine dining experiance we were expecting for $25 a plate. I noticed the tables around us were just as frusterated as we were.

The food itself was great. I loved my dish , but very anti-climatic when it came an hour and a half after we were seated. By this time we were starving and a cadboard box would have tasted nice.

Our entire meal ended at about 9:45. The restaurant was busy with the normal convention crowds that you find in the gaslamp on a weeknight. I would not recommend this restaurant to my friends. Instead, I'd say they can get just as good food down the street at Monsoon, and much better service there as well.
