I am always open to try new places opening up. My kids sell the Entertainment book every year for a school fundraiser, and with all these new places sprouting up, it's a great way to try out these new places without spending a fortune. I'm sure glad I had my BOGO coupon last night as I was sorely disappointed.
My kids & I decided to try this place. Once we arrived the restaurant looked like a shell. Once I walked in, I asked the kid behind the counter if they were closed or going out of business. His reply was "Oh no, we've been here over a year now".
No menu board ANYWHERE in the restaurant. The only menus they had were paper "door hanger" menus. We ordered.
The kids wanted pork ribs, & being a fan of a good bbq, I decided to try the brisket & hot links.
When asked what sides we wanted, my kids said "side salad & candied yams"
"Oh, we're out of that". So they decided on String Beans & sweet potato fries, while I ordered Coleslaw & baked beans. When I went to give them my coupon, the kid had another girl come over, looked at the coupon, & said "the coupon is only good for an item that is $13.00. You have to order something that cost $13.00. I pointed out my orders on the menu to her. $15.99 & $12.99. She then told the kid to change the price of the $12.99 item to $13.00 then apply the coupon. WTF?
When the food arrived the ribs came out REALLY REALLY dry. & they were beef ribs, not pork. I've never seen a beef rib as flimsy or bendable as these. Not a drop of sauce on them, and a lukewarm cup of bbq sauce. The baked beans were also lukewarm, & tasted like a bad can of chili with bbq sauce added to it. The coleslaw was absolutely the nastiest tasting slaw I've ever put in my mouth, I had to spit it back out. The sweet potato fries had obviously been reheated in a microwave. Very soggy. String beans? Not. Canned cut green beans, again, heated in the microwave that were too hot to even touch.
The brisket was very chewy & fatty. No flavor whatsoever. Also lukewarm. Hot links- Well, let's just say this bbq place may have turned me off hot links for a VERY long time. We didn't eat the majority of it, as we were so turned off by the taste it left in our mouths. Didn't bother asking for a to go box, and ended up going next door to Subway to cure our hunger.

The best baby back ribs I have had in a long time. Nice atmosphere a little close to the strip, but worth the trip.

After living in Austin, Texas, and getting used to fantastic BBQ, I can truly say we have found it at the BBQ Shak. Not only is all of the food great, the people that work there (as well as the owners) are friendly and a pleasure to deal with. Service is quick, whether you are dining in or carrying out. Make sure you grab some of that wonderful sauce!

You can miss this place just driving by, so definitely make sure that you are on the look out for it.

It is worth a special trip!
