Had a corp. Xmas party here; server didn't remember items on menu; one of the wines smelled of mold and had to be exchanged; food was fatty and not particularly well prepared. Overall, not the best experience.

From the call for a reservation to leaving the restaurant, by far our best experience in Raleigh.

I have been to 18 Seaboard three times and am always very impressed with the restaurant. Each time that I went there, the chef gave our table small samples of a new appetizer. Our waitresses were very attentive and the food was delicious.

Excellent seafood and soups. Waiter was a little slow and did not offer bread to our table of 8 when only three people ordered apps. However, delicious fails was worth every second. Very pleased!

We have been local fans of 18 Seaboard since it opened. We attend the North Carolina Symphony classical and pops series and find ourselves stopping by for dinner before or after the concerts. Jason and his staff support our Symphony

Not one to go out for fancy dining too much but this place is real affordable. The dishes are prepared with local ingredients and very tasty and just the right size. On my list to take folks to.

My husband and I ate at 18 Seaboard last week. It was our first time there. I had been trying to find places that we hadn't been before and read all the great reviews so we decided to give it a try. The only thing I can say is I'm sorry we didn't find this place sooner! I asked the waiter and he said they have been open over 4 years so that's too many meals we have missed there. Our waiter, Matthew, was fantastic. A great server and very knowledgeable of the menu. Starting from the delicious bread to the she crap soup, to our entrees of the salmon and beef brisket, everything was exceptional. Matthew recommended the blue cheese balsamic sauce for my salmon and it was the best. The portion sizes are very generous. You won't leave here hungry and we didn't have any room to try the desserts. Will definitely but 18 Seaboard on our list of regulars to return to. Thanks for the great dining experience.

I decided to take my girlfriend to 18 seaboard for her birthday yesterday and couldn't have been more pleased! As we were walking in, we were greeted by the head chef who was very polite. After being seated, we were immediately helped to a wine list and had our drink orders taken.

My meal consisted of a grilled asparagus and blue cheese salad and a barbeque glazed beef brisket. It is no exaggeration when I say that the salad was the best i've ever had. The beef brisket was no slouch either! I also could not believe how fast our food was served. I forgot that I had mentioned it was my girlfriend's birthday while making the reservation, but they sure didn't! We ordered a chocolate cake mug (amazing by the way), and they brought us a complimentary cake for my girlfriend.

Great atmosphere, better food, and a staff eager to please made it a great night! Do not hesitate to eat here, you won't be disappointed.

I started going to lunch at 18 Seaboard a long time ago becasue it was convenient and parking was good. I keep coming back because the food is consistently great (especially love the salmon salad and the lunch specials!) and the service is great. Today, I had an experience that was over and above customer service expectations. Highly recommend....again!.

My husband and I don't eat out much, but when we do this is our #1 pick. We've always had a great experience here. The food is fresh, local, and always cooked to perfection. The atmoshere is perfect for a romantic night out and the service is good. It's nice to see such great restaurants doing well in Raleigh.

My husband and I had dinner at 18 Seaboard last night. Everything was delicious from the madarine mojoita to the blueberry poundcake with homemade peach ice cream! The heirloom tomato bruchetta was addictive; we wanted to lick the plate. Our server was attentive and the wine director, sorry, I can't remeber his name, was so helpful with our wine choice. He even brought me 2 to taste with my entree. What Service! They made our anniversay very special. We'll be telling others as we make plans to go back.

This has become one of my favorite places to eat in Raleigh. I work in downtown and try to get out for lunch at least once a week. 18 Seaboard has become my Go-To restaurant.

The staff is amazing (especially the Wine Director, Cory Sloan) and everything I've tried on the menu is absolutely delicious. My favorite item is the Grilled Salmon Mixed Greens Salad - the salmon is cooked to order and the dressing is to die for.

Two words: Dine. Here.

Dined here this past weekend and was very impressed. The food is dressed up just enough for the flavors to shine through. I am tired of going to places where there is so much done to the dishes that you are not even sure what your eating anymore. Our srever was prompt, professional and helpful with selections but not over oppinionated. Will return and send people as well. The only bad thing was the place was very busy so it was a bit loud but not to the point we could not talk amongst ourselves. After relocating from Boston it is nice to find a place on this level.

If your looking for Fresh done right with nothing overdone or over emphasized here it is. This place a has a small menu in comparison to other local restaurants. HOWEVER I prefer this style because of the five things we tried all of them were spot on. The ability to match any entree with a sauce makes for endless possibilities and endless flavor. It isn't the easiest place to find but well worth it. Well Done Guys.

I had made reservations and they seated us in a nice, round booth with tall walls that allowed some privacy. There was room for 6, close, or 4, comfortably. We had lots of room but were close enough to share across and around the table easily.

Our server was an extrovert named Rusty. He knew the menu thoroughly and was very pleasant but not overbearing. They had one girl whose sole function seemed to be bringing fresh spoons as needed to the table. When we ordered soup, she popped up and then, again, when desert was on the way. As I finished my cocktail, a different server who happened to be cruising by asked if I wanted another. I said "I think I prefer a glass of wine, now." and he smiled, acknowledged that and sailed away. Other people helped clear away empty dishes as they happened by so our table was never crowded, but they were so graceful about it that we didn't feel hovered over, either.

All the dishes we had (2 soups, 5 appetizers, one entree, 3 desserts plus a birthday lagniappe between 3 people) were delicious, nicely portioned and interesting. (Why go out to eat what you can prepare for yourself?)

I cannot recommend 18 Seaboard enough for any occasion or excuse.

We have dined here many times over the past few years and have always been very impressed. The staff is extremely professional and there is always a good vibe. Our first time here we said that the prices would go up because it was so busy and good but on our most recent visit they were still the same. Try the pork shank or the grilled salmon. The specials are great as well. Thanks 18 Seaboard for adding to Raliegh's growing dining choices!

I mean grits!!! I know we are in a Southern state but you pay to eat grits with vegetables and a fish at a restaurant. You can eat that at my grandmas home. The price is ok!, of course for what they serve. There is nothing special to the whole menu, I tried twice, and even do the ambience is pretty, all employees look stress and the food is so generic, trust me you will not impress your guess at 18 Seaborad!

Excellent service! Sean was very attentive, and efficient. He answered all of our questions, and provided suggestions when needed. He was friendly without being overly familiar. When we decided to split the soup and salad, both the soup and the salad were brought it as two separate portions. Very few restaurants offer this type of service! Carolina coast she-crab soup was very good, majority of restaurants over salt it and put too much starch. Sandy Creek Farm bibb lettuce and beet salad was excellent! What an intersting way to incorporate beets, and the pistachio vinaigrette added just the right flare. New Bank Scallops with Green tomato marmalade, accompanied by Caper creme fraiche brocolli and Old Mill of Guilford cheddar grits were had excellent taste, and beautiful presentation. Thank you for a great Father's Day!

There always seems to be a dish with a twist. Have you ever tried grilled watermelon? It sounds different, but tastes sublime. You cannot go wrong with anything you order on the menu. Lunch is also a good choice if you want to go cheaper.

I really love the food at 18 Seaboard, and you can't beat the prices. My favorite item I've had so far is the goat cheese mashed potatoes. Super-yummy. But everything I've had there has been gourmet done right. And you absolutely have to try the brownie. Seriously, I love their coconut iced cream and other desserts, but the brownie is heaven in a cup.

Chef Jason Smith has created an oasis for the foodies of the Triangle. The location is great (close to downtown & Glenwood South, but with plenty of PARKING). The decor is sophisticated and soothing. The service is impeccable, and Chef Jason Smith has created a menu of unique dishes, packed with fresh local ingredients, that never fails to delight. I crave the Grilled Asparagus Chopped Salad (nothing like it anywhere else), and anything Jason does with a fish is spectacular. The wine list is thoughtful, with nice variety, and the staff is incredibly warm and welcoming. Perfect spot for a romantic interlude, a power lunch, or an important group dinner. (Tucker and Kira both make a mean martini, too!)

My brother took me here on a recent Thursday for my birthday- and what a treat!! Although we were seated about 15 minutes after our reservation, the bar was friendly and we enjoyed some delicious champagne... Our table was adorable and right next to giant bay windows, and our server was so friendly and refreshingly honest! The rest of the staff and even the other patrons were so relaxed and happy. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed the beet salad (my first great beets ever - wow. so good) and the Crackling pork dish. Although the restaurant was quite full it seemed to be running very smoth. Then as a surprise and "our compliments" - they brought me a delicious small dessert with "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" written in chocalate on the plate. I'd definitely say that the chef really enjoys the natural taste/flavor of meat and doesn't over-season it, and it seems the ambiance only compliments the delightful service and food. I would go back in a HEARTBEAT. Thank you so much for such a wonderful evening!

We have eaten at 18 Seabaord three times over the last 12 months and found it extremely delicous and consistent. The last time everyone in the group had a different item and everyone was pleased. It is the type of restaurant that changes there menu which we like. The server took very good care of us with a full bar on a weeknight. She recommended several appitizers and one of her favorites that was new. The food is priced very fairly and the ambience is great. Try the Short Rib pasta, it is very different but delicious and "meaty" and only $16.00. We are fans and will be back!!!

The night before Thanksgiving a group of 4 found themselves at 18 Seaborad hoping to have a wonderful night out, but what they got was an insect in their salad, average food, attitude and bad service. The salads arrived and with about 3 bites left one of the men in the group found a CENTIPEDE?ALIVE? in his salad. They asked for a manager, but apparently there wasn't one on duty b/c the Sommelier came back to the table. He apologized PROFUSELY and said, "I am so very sorry, I will definitely take care of you tonight". But he did not "take care of" anything...The bill came and not only was the bill OVER $300, the centipede salad was still on the bill at FULL PRICE & a 2nd bottle of wine (chosen by the Sommelier) was $68 (well over the price limit of $30 which the Sommelier had been told earlier in the evening). The only compensation that was given was a free crme brule, which had been offered to the group AND DECLINED by the group, but brought to the table anyway. The person that had been served the centipede contacted a manager the day after Thanksgiving and he offered to mail a $75 gift cert (GC) and have the owner call them back, but OVER A WEEK LATER...no GC & no phone call. Another call was placed to the owner, however he was defensive, unsympathetic and ultimately took the side of the Sommelier. He made lame excuses for not returning the phone call and grudgingly offered to send the group a $100 gift certificate. REALLY? THAT??S IT??? A hundred dollars, to share between 4 people, after being served a LIVE INSECT & treated badly? How can a business owner, in this economy, afford to treat customers w/ such disregard and disrespect? There are LOTS of GREAT restaurants in Raleigh, but 18 Seaboard is NOT one of them. Go someplace where the owner will appreciate your business & provide fantastic food? NOT LIVE CENTIPEDES and ATTITUDE. You'd be better off going to Zely & Ritz or Oakwood Cafe or even McDonalds for that matter

Wow! These guys get it. As we entered the restaurant we were greeted by a gentleman and lady who looked as though they enjoyed us being there. We were led to a table in the busy dining room where our server came over to tell us about the chef's special. Our drinks arrived promptly and my margarita was wonderful. We shared an appetizer of fried green tomatoes which being from up north I had never had but loved. One other in our party got the crab soup and said it was good. Our entrees arrived shortly after we finished our first course and mine and my wifes were prepared perfectly. The feel of this place is hard to create. The staff profesional but not snooty. The vibe lively, nice, and very relaxing. The food not over priced and delicious without being too expensive. We skipped dessert for after dinner drinks at the bar where the bartender was one of the best I have seen in Raleigh. As we left the gentleman who spoke to us as we came in held open the door and asked how everything was. I told him how happy we all were and I could tell he enjoyed hearing this as he introduced himself. First class southern hospitality. We will return!!!

Pros: Great value-perfect profesionalism

Cons: rear entrance

My office had our holiday lunch here this week and we were all most impressed. I had a Salmon salad that I think was the best salmon I have ever had and my boss had the crispy pork dish which he can't stop raving about. We had there home made potato chips which were hot they were so fresh and the desserts we all shared were great as well. I will be back for girls night and glad to find a new hot spot.

Pros: Food great, fast service for lunch lots of parking

Cons: Loud from all of the parties

I have to strongly disagree with curious cook. I8 Seaboard is by far the best restaurant in Raleigh for food, decor, and service. It is the "total package" restaurant. I have dined there several times and am blown out of the water each and every time. In fact, it is the place I go to entertain all my clients. I have also celebrated two birthdays there. The wine list has a wide range of choices to best fit your personal palate and the food is always spectacular! Not to mention the sinfully delicious desserts. I8 Seaboard has proven to be an excellent place to dine over and over and has yet to disappoint!

Cons: it can be hard to get a reservation due to high demand...great with seating walk-ins though

We tried this restaurant two years ago and had a nice time but had not been back because we don't go downtown often. I had an office lunch party and a Christmas dinner gathering there twice this Dec. and loved both. The lunch menu is great because all of the entrees are very resonable and creative but not over the top. I had the shrimp and grits which were different and better than any I have had elsewhere including Charleston, S.C. At dinner I loved my grilled Salmon dish and the mojito cocktail as well as the wine the host picked out. The server seemed to be on top of everything but not invasive and the buzz in the restaurant was fun but profisional. We all commented on how the staff seemed to be accomadating and on point even though the restaurant was very full. We will be back soon!!!

Pros: Perfect Salmon!--staff on point

Cons: far from n raleigh but worth the drive w/ parking

We dined at 18 Seaboard yesterday evening. The wine selection puny and flat. The bar was understocked. The food was under seasoned, if it was seasoned at all. The pork shank was dry, cold, and no where near the "crispy" it proclaimed. The ribeye was severely overcooked, medium-well as opposed to the medium-rare we ordered. The she crab soup was overly thick, almost paste-like and bland. Desserts were okay. Candy cane ice cream was the only saving grace. However, the restaurant was packed. I don't understand. The people of Raleigh must be confused! There are far better restaurants all over Raleigh, even down the street in any direction. Needless to say, we all left very disappointed.

The fish is good, the food is innovative. The staff, from the owner/chef to the waiters, make it an enjoyable meal! Great Appetizers, and very decent view. Great value for the quality.

I went with three friends to try this restaurant out, and we are notoriously picky diners. Not one of us had anything negative at all to say about this experience! The autumn sangria was heavenly, the she-crab soup divine, and whomever is responsible for the goat cheese mashed red potatoes should be kissed heartily and often! Two of us had the scallop entree, one had the flank steak, and one the mahi, and we all sampled and sighed to our hearts' content. Followed by the mug chocolate dessert and creme brulee, and suffice to say we all left happy. Though I didn't partake, my dinner mates assured me that the suggested red wine was also right on target.

I'll be returning here with friends and with gusto! Kudos!

Cons: Could probably be noisy with a full crowd, though not tonight.

We hosted a rehearsal dinner here a few weeks ago and must say we were very impressed. I have been to many large dinner parties in the Atlanta area and was a little apprehensive of our family having something this important in Raleigh but were blown away with the profesionalism of this restaurant. From our first call over a year ago to the time we left we were treated first class all the way. Our group, which was large-60ppl, was guided through our evening with extreme confidence as if we were the only care in the world. The menu although a little southern was extremely varied and everyone seemed delighted with their meal. I had the grilled Red Drum whish was quite posibly the best fish I have ever eaten. The dessert was to die for. We will return when we visit the area!

I have had lunch here several times and always find the special outstanding and priced resonably. Our service has been speedy and polite, in and out in an hour but not rushed. The large parking lot helps as well. I will try for dinner when we are downtown sometime, I hope it is as good!

Second visit for me. This time with a business/work group. Had great food and service. I had the seh crab soup which is usally boring but this version is addictive. My entree the Catfish was fresh, seasoned well and had exciting flavor. For such a large group the service was very much on point. I hope to be back soon.

I went here with my boyfriend on the spur-of-the-moment one Saturday. Went in on our way home from Crema on Fayetteville Street to look over the menu and see if we could get a reservation for that night. They were able to seat us on the outdoor mezzanine that night at 6:30. Came in and it wasn't too crowded, but filled up pretty quickly. People were pretty dressed up; some in full suits and their Sunday best, we were in jeans and nice tops. The atmosphere was pretty upscale inside, slightly less so on the outdoor mezzanine. The view up there wasn't awesome or anything, but it was a nice night so it was pretty nice out there nonetheless. The waiter came over to get our drink orders not long after we were seated. I wanted a beer but wasn't familiar with any of the beers on their menu, so he helped me pick one out. It was pretty good. Then we ordered our entrees. I got the black eyed pea fritters and the BF got wood fired salmon with some kind of sauce, (you choose a meat and a sauce for the wood fired entrees) with cheddar grits and some kind of squash side dish. Our food was excellent. I thought it was really good for the money. We passed on dessert. The total, two entrees and three beers, came out to $45+tip. Service was pretty good without being overbearing or intrerrupting us too much.

On our way out, we heard a bluegrass band playing next door at Capital City Grocery, and spent the rest of the evening drinking $2 Big Boss beers and listening to the free show over there. It was a pretty nice evening altogether.

Pros: Food was well-prepared, drinks weren't too pricey considering how upscale the place is.

Cons: Hard to get a reservation, not a lot of vegetarian options, kind of need to dress up to fit in.

We were looking forward to a special dinner. We arrived on the early side on a Thursday, and the restaurant was not busy, although there did appear to be a few large parties. Our server took over 5 minutes to appear and offered no explanation. The bread and butter arrived only after our entrees and our asking if they served bread. There was no cream with the coffee, initially, and no explanation again. No one refilled our coffee. There was a long wait for the check. And overall, the server was not very friendly--dismissive. Her tip reflected all this. This was made more irritating because this was not how she seemed to be treating diners at surrounding tables. The food was very good--a shame the service didn't match.

I ate here tonight and was very excited at the beginning of the meal;wine and bread were great. Then, came the appetizers, which were OK. #1 had the fried green tomatoes and #2 had the fried shrimp with Texas Pete aioli and slaw. Not bad. THEN, came the main courses. #1 had the flat iron- -the 24 hour marinade was disgusting. Absolutely did not mix with the strong taste of the wood fired grill. Probably should have been a 12 hour marinade. #2 had the special- -a flounder. Why do you fry one side and leave the skin on the other side? I guess that's a southern thing. Then came dessert. It was awesome. Peanut butter pie. I guess the pastry chef is pretty awesome. All in all an OK evening, but I probably wouldn't return given the price for the entrees we got. There's more to be had in Raleigh.
