I never really write reviews online, but felt compelled to do so this time around. I have used movers before and these guys were probably the best I've used. From my initial conversation with the owner, John to the day of my move- these guys were professionals! They were fast, efficient, friendly and very careful with our personal belongings and furniture. We had about 90 boxes (more than what we had initially estimated) and they were so patient and took care of them all. We also took their advice of putting everything in boxes. Even though they sold boxes, they suggested that if I had the time to get the boxes at Home Depot to save money.

Old City movers far exceeded my expectation from my first my first call to schedule the move to the moment that they left my house.

The day of the move, they showed up right on time and wasted not one minute - they packed the truck and headed out. I let them know that I would be right behind them...well, in the meantime, my cat escaped so I was frantically trying to get her back in her carrier then into the car. That took 30 minutes. Instead of just waiting the 30 minutes for me to arrive and let them in - they again wasted no time. By the time I got there, they had the truck unloaded and everything right outside the door waiting to go. Oh, and did I mention that I live on one of those really convenient Philadelphia streets that isn't wide enough to get the truck down so they had to park at the corner and walk everything 1/2 a block to the door? Still, they were completely unphased and so friendly! All in all it took them only 2.5 hours!! It was cheaper than renting a UHaul and moving myself!!

These guys seriously know what they are doing. Moving is so stressful - Old City movers can reduced some of that stress.

Between my fiance's moves and my own, we've had three good experiences with Old City. Our last move with a different company was a complete nightmare, and we let them go and hired Old City to finish the job, and we'll use them for sure for our next move. These guys know what they're doing. They're very careful with the furniture and carefully reassemble anything they have to take apart. They've been impeccably prompt for all our moves. They're good time managers and organized and efficient in the way they move things, and the rates are very fair.

I've used these movers twice already and they always come on point with their price quote or below what they estimated. their price includes everything - gas, truck, dollies, tarps, etc. in a flat hourly rate they give you pending how much stuff you own. they're so quick and efficient, but still really careful with your belongings in taking the time to wrap items with tarps, etc as well as arranging things in the truck securely and in your new home to your specifications.

The first time i used them last summer i was so pleased with them i recommended them to a coworker, classmate, and two friends who all raved about how they couldn't believe how great they all were and have since recommended them to their friends as well.

unlike a few other moving companies who overcharge, are not careful with your belongings, and some that actually steal (my sister came across this), old city movers have really honest and nice movers who are just good at what they do.

my only recommendation to people who want to use them is to book them more than a month in advance if possible because they book up quickly.

It was an overall great moving experience. They showed up 15 minutes early. They had everything transported from my apt to the storage facility within 2 hours. They were very friendly and personable. They operated quickly and efficiently. They made the whole moving experience very easy!

I chose Old City Movers because they were voted Best in Philly and I soon discovered why. The movers arrived on time. They got right to work, breaking down my furniture and loading it on the truck. In about two hours they had hauled all my furniture, including a large wardrobe to my new 3rd floor walk-up without so much as a ding or a scratch to anything. In addition, I was moving within the city and liked that this company was local; not some business from the burbs or So. Jersey who'd get lost looking for my building or get confused about the city streets.

Oh, and the other positive experience- other companies had quoted me flat rates and estimates that were twice as much as this company ended up charging me for the two hour move.

So, if you are moving within the city, or anywhere else, I highly recommend this team of movers.

Registered on Citysearch just to praise these guys. Seriously the best movers I've ever worked with... and this is coming from someone who has moved almost once a year for the past 10 years. They cleared out our apartment in 90 minutes... no small feat considering the amount of junk we have. We were in our new house 2 hours later... the truck completely unloaded, including a monster armoire that made it into our upstairs bedroom unscathed. Cannot recommend them enough. Extremely reasonable rates, really friendly dudes, and very fast.

So I called Bill, the main supervisor, and explained that I wanted to move from my apartment to another one a block a way. We scheduled a time (I made a joke that there was an Eagles game on and I would prefer a better time) which he said was suspicious. After discussing pricing, he said that his "mental alarm bell was going off" and he was worried I wouldn't be there for the scheduled move and that I should find someone else. Bill then abruptly hung up.

When I called back to see what the hell had happened, he said he had made a mistake in scheduling and that Old City movers wouldn't be available at that time slot or any of the other time slots he had quoted me for because of "an error." Effectively brushing me off.

To give you some background, I'm a Penn student who was trying to move within University City. What in the world Bill was being uptight about I'll never know. But there are a lot of better/cheaper movers available out here and you shouldn't give any of your money to people like that.

I searched the web for a moving company to move my family from one area of the city to another. I really liked the reviews for Old City movers. When I called to set up the appointment, the gentlemen was friendly, answered all my questions and when I hung up the phone I felt a sense of relief knowing that nothing would be broken or stolen. On the day of the move they arrived promptly at 8:00 a.m. explained everything to my husband and I and got right to work. They were friendly, courteous, efficient, pleasant to our children and were finished moving a three bedroom, 2.5 bath home before noon. I was amazed at the care they took of our furniture, nothing broken or damaged, they even suggested a way to transport some of the more fragile items we were stumped as how to pack! The rates were fantastic! The best money I ever spent not to mention the sense of relief from not having to do this ourselves. I would highly recommend them and when I move again I'm certainly calling Old City Movers! Thanks guys!

I hired Old City Movers to get me out of my apartment after me and my partner broke up. They were efficient and professional and took the utmost care to make sure that none of my stuff was damaged. They took apart all of my Ikea furniture and put it right back together like it never happened - thats a feat unto itself. It took them less than two hours to get me out of my old place and into my new place - all at a super reasonable price. They are professional and courteous and really know what they are doing. They get my highest recommendation.

I've never used a mover before and quite frankly dreaded the thought. Old City Movers was great though. They were always friendly on the phone while setting up the appointment. They were sure to call and confirm. They were friendly during the move out and move in. They had to store my stuff overnight and there was no problem with that. When moving in, they even helped to rearrange the furniture a bit instead of just putting it down. They were careful with everything and we had no "casualties" of our stuff due to the move process.

Before moving I felt absolutely great, after moving I felt like killing myself. Terrible moving experience. I've moved 3 or 4 times and used different movers each time and never had a problem.

Besides from having my brand new leather couch destroyed by 2 guys which looked like they had no experience what so ever (both were constantly asking the one guy what to do) the attitude that old city movers brought with them was un-called for. I stayed out of their way and didn't instruct them much, but when i'd ask if they could please be careful with the couch they shrugged me off and said, "We know what the hell we're doing"

Definitely don't use them, very un-friendly. I wouldn't want anyone else to have to go through what me and my family went through.

Old City moved me from the suburbs to a storage facility and then a month later into my new condo. Their team is courteous, quick and efficient. Everything was moved with great care and they listened to any concerns I had throughout the process. I would recommend their services to anyone who needs help moving, no matter how big or small. They took the stress out of moving!

I have used other Center City moving companies in the past and was always disappointed. The movers were late, slow and/or reckless with my things. A friend recommended Old City movers to me for a recent move and I am so glad she did. They were great! They were pleasant to deal with on the phone, showed up on time and moved everything from my old place and into my new place in 2 hours!? They were incredibly nice despite the 95 degree temperatures, and were very careful with all of my furniture and belongings. All of that and their rates are excellent too! I have recommended them to others already and would definitely use them again.

We recently moved from our walk-up brownstone apartment to another fourth floor walk-up, and the movers from Old City were absolutely fantastic. So polite and professional, and very careful with all of our furniture. They got the job done in 3 hours...incredible! I absolutely recommend them and will certainly hire them again when I move.

My husband and I moved a few months ago and Old City Movers had been recommended to us by a friend. Affordability was our top priority and this company definitely fit the bill. When the day of the move came we were very impressed by how professional the movers were, much more professional than what we had dealt with in using more nationally recognized movers in the past (who were also much more expensive). The movers were careful with our belongings and very fast! Needless to say, the next time we move we will be calling these guys up and highly recommend them to anyone!

I recently used Old City Movers for my move from Northern Liberties to the Art Museum area. All three of the movers were friendly and efficient while taking great care with the items they were moving. I would highly reccommend Old City Movers for your next move.

We used Old City Movers for a local move - Wynnefield Heights to Upper Darby but we had some furniture at two other locations as well. These guys were AWESOME! They picked up our stuff at each place and a 6 hour job turned into a 13 hour job and they were just as cool, and helpful in the last hour as they were during the first hour.

I will definitely use them again. Even if I just need to move stuff around my house!

I got three or four bids and they had the best prices.

You have to use these guys if you move!

These guys were FANTASTIC... We hired them to move us and they were fast as lighting, were really careful with our stuff and very good at getting everything in and out safetly. We hired Old City Movers to move us from Philly to Manhattan and they did a fantastic job. We have several pieces of expensive/oversized furniture and art, and they knew exactly what they were working with and treated it (and everything else) with extreme care. They were on time, hard working, efficient and friendly. With moving being such a stressful activity, it was a HUGE benefit to have movers that were reliable, professional and not in need of micro-managing. And the final cost came in well below estimates I got from other moving companies. I would use them again and recommend them to anyone.

This is the second time Old City has moved us and it definitely will not be the last. I can't believe they managed to move an insanely enormous bookcase into our new apartment and got everything moved by 5 PM (saving us a $500 fine) for a great price. Definiitely cannot be beat. They are courteous and extremely knowledgeable about moving in this city. Awesome!

I had 2 big concerns about moving. First was packing a 2 person house into a 1 person apartment. Second was moving into an apartment building located on Walnut Street at one of the most congested areas of the street - a few blocks east of Rittenhouse Square.

When I originally called the company, I told them I was moving into a building with no loading dock, no parking, and strict rules for loading on the street. They said it was no problem, moving in Center City was their specialty and they knew the building I was moving into. Already being familiar with the building, they knew what needs I had in advance.

2 guys came and packed the day before the move. This took more time than the move, but the extra money was worth it. No matter how prepared I thought I was, I never would have been able to get everything wrapped up as efficiently and quickly. They used a lot less materials than I would have and also used any supplies I gave them before I had to buy theirs - this included newspapers I had been collecting and a stack of U-Haul boxes I bought a month before.

The day of the move was super smooth. There were 3 guys and they were amazing, polite and friendly. They moved the boxes so fast into the truck and commented the packing made the move so much faster. When we got to the apartment building on Walnut Street, there was no spot to park the truck in front of the building. One of the movers negotiated with the driver who was using the spot. He arranged it so our moving truck would pull up at the same time the delivery truck was pulling out. He also spoke to the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) so my sister could stay in her car until the moving truck arrived.
This could have been a big delay, but it was really fast because they knew exactly what they were doing and it was obviously important to them to get the job done the best way possible. I actually wished they were a little slower, because they were so nice to be around.

I have moved with Old City Movers twice in the last two years. For both moves they worked efficiently and gave me great value for my money. The two different crews that I had for my moves were friendly and responsive and were able to move my heaviest furniture through narrow staircases without damaging the furniture or the walls.

I would highly recommend their services for anyone that needs to move.

I recently made a move from Philadelphia, PA to Alexandria, VA... I used Old City Movers and my move went perfectly. After quite a bit of Internet research and countless phone calls with other moving companies, I finally decided to use Old City Movers. With Old City Movers, I received the personal service and attention I needed to make my move successful. Many of the other companies I considered have clearly over-complicated the process of moving! I called the POD company and they were not only terribly expensive but they also estimated my move taking three days! I needed to make my move in one day. I called some of the other large moving companies out there and again, I was amazed at the over-complication of what is a pretty straightforward process.
I am very thankful to Old City for making my move simple, affordable and absolutely perfect. They have set the industry standard as far as I'm concerned. The other companies out there need to get back to basics or they are going to lose a lot of business to Old City Movers.
One point to be made is that the success of any move is dependent upon your preparation. I did the best I could over the three days that I was packing my belongings to ensure that everything was packed and boxed appropriately. When the team from Old City arrived the morning of my move, I was ready and the rest was up to them.

We recently hired Old City Movers to move us from University City out to the burbs, and I can't recommend them enough. Our movers arrived on the appointed morning, only to find that someone had hijacked our building's loading dock and freight elevator. The guys took it all in stride and moved us out quickly through the passenger elevator. Even though they arrived an hour and a half after her guys, and even though we had more belongings, the Old City Movers still got done first.

These guys were polite, fast, and very very efficient. I would recommend them to anyone, and should I move back into the city, I'd use them again in a heartbeat. There is no downside to using these guys.

I had these guys moving me this weekend, one word that sums it up ?FANTASTIC"! These guys were such professionals. Quick, affordable and thoughtful are a few more words that describe this company and the 3 guys that came out. I would like to say that I do not work for nor have any relationship with this company. I would recommend these movers to anyone thinking of hiring movers. They made moving so painless. The job I had them do, I thought would take 3 hours, they did it in 2 and even put together some items once it arrived at my new place in that 2 hours time span. I am still in shock how good they were. They new their job and did it. They took care of everything. These 3 guys worked well together. The spoke between each other to get each task completed, from sizing up the house to how to get in on the truck in the most effective way and careful also.

I've moved several times over the last few years, with my most recent being a local Philadelphia move this past weekend. I used Old City Movers after reading their positive ratings here and on other sites, and all of it is 100% true. They were easy to communicate with leading up to my move and always gave me the answers I needed right away. They were on time and moved really quickly, I was surprised at how smoothly everything went. I moved from a third floor walk up in the 'burbs to a midrise in the city in 30 degree temps, and the three movers I had (Mark, Matt, Adam) were professional, efficient, and really great people. I can honestly say I've never had a move go better than this one did, and I 100% would recommend them to anyone....they're fantastic!!!!!

These guys are easily the best movers in town. I'll only use Old City Movers from now on, and I've used most of the local companies to help with my many moves in Philly. I only wish that I had known about these guys sooner. You will definitely be happy using them. Oh yeah, great prices too.

i was uber impressed by these guys' efficiency and courteousness. they picked me up and emptied out my storage unit within half an hour, and moreover, were absolutely friendly and fun to talk to the entire time. the movers are men with diverse talents! i definitely won't hesitate to call old city movers when i make my next address change.

Moving is stressful, but these guys made the actual packing/moving of our stuff a breeze. They showed up on time, told us exactly how much it would cost per hour, then proceeded to immediately start carting stuff out. Overall, just a good moving experience. For once.

We used OLD CITY MOVERS a few weeks back to move from Brooklyn to Mt. Airy and were very apprehensive about the scope and stress of the job. Mark and John, the owners, assured us all would be smooth sailing, and drove up from Center City with 2 trucks and 6 guys to move us on a near-100-degree day. They were the nicest guys, totally professional, fast, efficient, competent. They got all our stuff down and out a 3-story walkup in 3 hours (after estimates and previous moves indicated 7 would be necessary), and even did way over-the-top things like rescuing our baby's carseat from the front of the truck, putting all the dismantled furniture back together (better than before in some cases), and moving extra things like a washer-dryer we'd not negotiated--all with aplomb, good grace, humor and cheer.
It couldn't have been a nicer group of guys and by far the most positive moving experience we've had!
Also, the rates were more than reasonable--40% LESS than our other Brooklyn quotes.
I would recommend them to anyone for any move!

I've never hired professional movers before, but these guys were better than I could have imagined. They were nice, fast, and extremely professional. I told them I wouldn't pay for more than 2 hours and they got the job done with time to spare. I would recommend OCM to anyone.

The guys at Old City made me feel at ease from the moment I met them. They worked hard and were in the best mood, even though it was raining! All my furniture made the trip unscathed and they even hoisted my leather sleeper sofa through the window! Would recomend very highly to anyone.
