Among the falafel shops and tattoo parlors of MacDougal Street, this comfortable, unassuming pub plants a stake for Ireland.

Another Village Club where many locals will hang. Good food and service. Many types of beers on the menu. Good people watching if that is what you like to do.

The sign says restaurant although the kitchen is closed. When you order food they deliver it from a bar across the street. Not to sanitary! Another example of a poorly run establishment that will soon be out of business.

(This bar is at the site of the famous 1980s record label/store 99 records.) I'm an idiot! I figured that since it was the week before Christmas break, all the annoying NYU students would be on vacation, annoying people in their hometowns in Iowa and Suffolk Country. I expected the bar to be empty, except for us! Whoa! WRONG! Even at 9:30, the tiny place was as crowded as the Okakyu during rush hour. You couldn't f*rt (I don't censor. C*tysearch does.) without rustling someone's skirt. We tried gathering around a couple small tables low on the floor. As our crowd grew, we used one of the tables as a chair, but it just wasn't enough. Besides the music was so loud, we needed extra napkins to mop up the blo*d leaking from our ears. The bartenders were friendly (more than can be said for the crowd) and made an effort to keep up. They even remembered who was on the Drink Club tab. But it was uncomfortable, and the crowd was not cozying up. We left for more commodious places. --Drink Club is a roving group of NYC drinkers

Cons: too crowded, too small,

My friend asked me to visit this small pub in the village and I was very glad I did. The bartender was very friendly and the Irish Nachos were amazing. Everyone seemed to be having a great time and I look forward to returning there soon. Fair waring, bring someone along to share the Nachos. The portion is HUGE!!!

I was doing researches online to see where we would be able to grab a quick bite before the show. I decided to give 99 Below a try since 1) my boyfriend would like to eat in an Irish bar/restaurant; 2) all the good reviews that I've read; and 3) the menu. So yesterday we finally went. We don't normally hang out in the Village so when we first got to the entrance of this place, we were kind of hesitated to go down (especially with The Hummus Place right above it which was very tempting). I'm so glad that we went in. There were only another table and maybe one or two customers at the bar so the place was pretty quiet. Guess it was because the night was cold and all the college students were too busy studying for their finals. We were being served immediately the moment we walked in. They recommended me to try the Grimbergen since they ran out of what I ordered. I took a sip and fell in love with it! We then ordered the Irish Nachos, Chicken Fingers, and Shepherd's Pie. All came out very good (especially the Irish Nachos), and they even tried to make the Shepherd's Pie the way we like. Both my boyfriend and I were very happy about this place, and definitely would recommend to our friends! Oh, and one more thing, pretty clean restroom although it's unisex.

As a visitor to Big Apple I sought out 99Below to check out the recommendation of a friend. He had waxed eloquent about the place but had reservations as I do not always agree with his views. As a result I was more than happy to be proved wrong. Based in a very lively street the place exuded warmth and a lively atmosphere which reflected the barstaff''s friendly service. Loved the Irish Nachos. Will visit again

I stopped by here last night for a beer with a couple of fiends and ended up hanging out here for the evening. We started with a couple of beers and then started to get hungry when we saw the food being served. We shared an order of the irish nachos which were delicious, and I had the salmon which was devine. It was really reasonably priced and I had a really great eveing here. I will be going back very soon!

I live near 99 Below and went there for dinner and happy hour 5 or 6 times within a few weeks of it opening. My friend and I always had wine, which was only $3 and I had been there frequent enough that the bartenders and owner recognized us and knew what we was going to drink. The last time we were in there, we had our usual. However, when I got the bill, the wine was $7. So, instead of a $12 bill, it was $28. I asked the bartender about this and he told me that they took it off the happy hour list the day before. Neither bartender bothered to tell me this and wouldn't honor it. That's bad business. There are many other places in the Village that offer the same deal and cheap food. We just happened to like their food better than some of the other places. However, we will not be back. That is a dishonest way to run a business. My advice is to double check the specials before ordering or you could get a unpleasant surprise when your check comes.

Was there last Saturday. Watched the college football games, had great food - HUGE burger & hand cut fries. So reasonable. Pretty cool Jukebox. DJ played later - the joint was rocking. Nice mix of customers. Young hip - mix of NYU & young professionals - no posers !! Bartenders are good fun - get chatting to them they may even do a couple of shots with you. I probably shouldn't put that in here but what the heck!! Highly reccommend.
