On election night we all had confidence in senator Obama's grand victory. We decided to celebrate and head over to Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn for some down to earth BBQ food. We heard lots of great raves about this restaurant which overlooks the Manhattan skyline and we were starved when we got there. Just 15 minutes later from Manhattan and our party of 8 was warmly greeted by the owner himself, Jake We felt right at home and ordered homemade ice teas and were served hot cornbread right away. For starters wer had the BBQ Sampler appetizer - buffalo wings, tenders, fried shrimps and mac and cheese. The fried calamari was tender and crisp with a tangy marinara sauce. For the mains, we ordered both the baby back and short ribs of beef. Incredibly tender with a fantastic BBQ sauce. The pulled pork came next-hot and smoky, then the Kansas City fried chicken. The Seafood Sampler - shrimps, scallops, catfish and oysters was prepared with skill. Lots of sides came with the dinner- collard greens, onion rings, sweet potato fries and homemade slaw. For dessert we had the excellent brownies and Key Lime Pie complements of Jake. All in all this was a great night for America and our taste buds. Go to Jake's for the best BBQ at the most reasonable prices.

I often go out of my way (clinton hill) to pick up dinners from Jakes. My favs are the short ribs, burgers, steaks, and chicken dinners. I enjoy occasionally asking the owner to suggest something, I've never been disappointed. I can't order an imported brew with my order, but thankfully I can bring my own in. I learned of Jakes from some of my neighbors. I think it's the best spot we've tried in Brooklyn. Extra, the owner actually shot the landscape photographs on the walls, it has a gallery feel.

Pros: great food, pleasant folks, enjoyable photos

Cons: had to park 1/2 block away

We decided to try the home delivery service at Jake's BBQ Restaurant last night. Our neighbors said it was very good, so we decided to make the investment. The baby back ribs and pulled pork are excellent as well as the meatless collard greens. The BBQ sampler dinner was a real bargain. Chicken, ribs, pulled pork, sausages with two sides and bread for only $24.95. It fed all three of us like kings and queens.
The wait was a little bit longer that we had expected but it was still OK considering the whole meal with tip was $50 and the lots of leftovers for a midnight snack.

I just want to let all BBQ fans know that JAKE'S BBQ Restaurant down in now fashionable Red Hook Brooklyn has the best delivery service. The is always fresh, taste is great and the prices are very reasonable. With every meal you get two side dishes, choice of bread and their terrific sauce. At times, the wait can up to one hour before they arrive but I would guess that is because they are quite busy. Definitely recommended!! Try the Pulled and Chopped Pork Platter with Macaroni and Cheese and Potato Salad. Keep up the good work Jakes!!!!!

Jake's BBQ Restaurant Carroll Gardens is one of the finest places for fresh BBQ in the USA. Everything and I mean everything is made fresh and has a great smoking flavor. Our party of four enjoyed the baby back pork rib. Short ribs of beef, pulled pork and the beef brisket melt. the sides where awesome and the service matched any fine dinning restaurant. We came back several times and I can tell you this is the joint! I wish that they served beer and the noise level was a little lower but other then that its the best place in town. the total tab for the whole meal came to $85.00. A real bargain. Thank You JAKE'S!

Pros: The Food, and service

Cons: The noise, and no liquor

One word: Bland. More words: Overcooked, unseasoned Pork chops. Brisket really fatty, not just on the edges, but interlaced with the meat somehow. Rubbery Buffalo wings. Bland Collard greens. Bland Corn on the cob. Bland spinach. Blaaand! The cornbread wasn't bad, but hey, I'm no expert! Even the service was annoying. I put forth that any 5 star ratings must be biased somehow. Go somewhere else or, if you've got a grill, you can do better at home.

This may have been a good place one time, but not anymore. We ate in, so this is not a complaint on delivery. It was just bad across the board - not sure what anyone would like about it. Go to RUB on W23rd if you want good 'q.

Been living here in the neighborhood for a few years and have come to love Jake's food. Unfortunately the latest delivery and service I got was the worst! It took an hour alone for the delivery to arrive and then find out that one of my dinners was missing. I immediately called to mention the missing dinner and was told they'd get a new one out to me right away. Another hour goes by and I call to ask where it's at upon which I'm quickly told "It's on the way". Finally another thirty minutes pass and I call again going through three people (and repeating myself three times) to find out NOTHING was done to rectify or address my first two calls starting an hour and a half ago. They hadn't even made another dinner!! Needless to say we shared a cold dinner between the two of us.

I'm a retired chef and have been working in restaurants for most of my life. My son, James is attending
the Culinary Institute in upstate New York. I live in Bay Ridge and we decided to give Jake's BBQ a
try. We heard lots of things about it so we came in to try the BBQ Brunch. Upon entering the place
there is a tantalizing aroma of meats from the smoker and the sweet smell of tomatoes and onions in
the air. My stomach started to growl so we ordered right away. I had the Beef Brisket and eggs over
easy with the macaroni and cheese. James ordered the Pulled Chicken Platter with all white meat
along with a cheese omlette. Flaky biscuits came with the meals. It was a good amount of food and
we were quite satisfied with the portions. The waitresses were very pleasant. On a scale of 1-10, I
gave it a 9 and James gave it a 7. That's a pretty good score since we're both BBQ aficionados and I'm
a self-taught chef. James wants to try the Baby-Back Ribs on the next time around but he has to save
every penny for the Institute. The two meals with the gratuity was $32.00 and that is pretty good for
quality Bar-b-Que cuisine. The owner, Jake offered free cooking lessons for his famous Pulled Pork
and James really admired him for his knowledge and generosity. I think that I will be coming back
very soon to try something else and get some free cooking lessons!

A bunch of guys and gals got together on Saturday night for cocktails and spinnin music. Our D.J. was
a real cool dude and played some awesome brazilian and dance tunes that got us sweating to the
beat. We worked up a real appetite and decided to order pizza and heroes. Only thing was my friends
are a bunch of tightwads and ordered just enough to soak up the booze. We heard about this BBQ
joint down in the Hook and gave it a try. We ordered two full orders of Beef Short Ribs and three full
slabs of baby backs. Lots of fixins came with it. Mac & Cheese, Corn on the Cob, Collards and Mashed
Taters came pipin hot. Cornbread, Biscuits were right up my alley. The BBQ sauce was out of sight
and went great with the Coors light. We sent out for another case and enjoyed the night until 2 in the
mornin. Went home, got it together with Scarlet. One day I.m gonna head over to Jake's BBQ and
meet the boss. I hear he's really slick! and a great chef. MUSIC, BOOZE, RIBS AND GALS. Man oh
man can't wait till next week Saturday.

Pros: BEST BBQ JOINT ANYWHERE

Cons: GONNA NEED NEW CLOTHES IF DON'T STOP EATIN AT JAKE'S

We ordered for delivery on a Saturday night. The delivery took over an hour to get to us, our order was cold, and our order was incorrect -- all for ribs that were at best average. I would never order from this place again.

My wife Kate and I grew up in Kansas City, MO and we moved to a litte village in Brooklyn called
Carroll Gardens. It's a great neighberhood with newly renovated brownstones and with it the latest
market value condos and co-ops in town. When we first moved in we would pass by a restaurant
called JAKE'S BAR-B-Q but we never tried it because our parents said that there is no original
Kansas City style BAR-B-Q if it's not made in our home state. One day, our friends from work invited
us out and it just so happens that they took us to JAKE'S on Columbia St. I found it incredible that
this place in Brooklyn could prepare BAR-B-Q specialties just one block from my backyard.
My buddy Hal and his wife Nancy did the ordering-Baby Back Ribs, Short Ribs of Beef, Pulled Pork
and Pulled Chicken. BBQ baked beans, Collards, Red Potato Salad and Beef Chili all arrived like a
steady flow of traffic to our table. This food is excellent! My uncle Jimmy back home used to prepare
Sunday BBQ for our big family and we ate, drank and played all day. Lots of tall tales of BBQ
cooking, girlfriends and the like made us proud to grow up in BBQ country. I'm saying now-
"Uncle Jimmy, you've met your match! Come on down and swap some good stories with his Dad,
Jake Sr. Half-way through the meal we packed up the goods to save for tomorrow's dinner or a
late night fridge raid. The waitress gave us some free cornbread for our leftover BBQ. No more room
for dessert, the house special KEY LIME PIE. becaused we're stuffed. JAKE Jr.is running the show now
but he misses his Dad tending the smokehouse. Maybe my uncle Jimmy and Jake Jr. will bump into
one another way up there in BBQ heaven and send down some new recipes. Gotta go now and put
my BBQ stuff into the fridge. I love this place!

Cons: NO LIQUOR, BYOB

We recently moved to Prospect Heights in Brooklyn from Manhattan and our family
is accustomed to dining in the some of the finest restaurants in the world. With lots more
room in our new brownstone digs we?re enjoying the small town charm of this area. Since
my wife and I are both chefs in the city we are so busy and then too tired to cook. I heard
about this BBQ place that delivers all the way from Carroll Gardens to our place near
Park Slope and we decided to give it a try. We ordered Buffalo tenders and Catfish
Nuggets for our appetizers. For our main courses we had the Baby Back Ribs and the Brisket Melt with Swiss Cheese. The meal came with sweet corn bread and biscuits and
Four side orders. The mashed potatoes were great, the macaroni and cheese was loaded
With cheedar, the steamed spinach was fresh but the collard greens needed more spice.
Tangy BBQ sauce came in two nice size cups. Man I gotta tell ya. This food is kickin
Delicious! The food arrived hot and the big delivery guy was very friendly. The whole
meal for the two of us and our ten year old son cost about $50 and that?s real cheap
compared to the Big City! I checked out Jake?s BBQ while driving by on Columbia
St. on the way in to work. It looks like a real neat place to visit. Can?t wait to try out
the BBQ pizzas. With all the hype around about top notch barbeque eateries in
Manhattan, JAKES BBQ easily takes the cake. It?s the best kept secret in town!

Cons: VERY ADDICTIVE!

I went with 3 friends for dinner. There was a busy coward of hungry people on a Saturday night but we were seated quickly. Everywhere I looked I saw large plates of ribs and people taking leftovers home, and I thought this food must be to good to be thrown away. We ordered chili, babyback ribs and chicken which were recommended by the pretty waitress. The BBQ babyback ribs had this great tasty and tangy sauce on it, the chili was hot and hearty, and the chicken was well seasoned and moist. The portions were big for the money and you get 2 sides with the meal..I wish I had known that they cater before my last party - I could have saved a fortune. The food was so much that we packed up the leftovers to make room for dessert. We split the chocolate cake and cheesecake which were both rich and sweet, and to top it off we got free honey roasted pecans after the meal. The pecans were the best I ever had!!! I would definitely come back for more.

Pros: Great Food, Great price, Nice Atmosphere

Cons: Really should be located in Manhattan instead of Brooklyn

Jake's people who answer the phone are either rude or incompetent. The order that is placed is NEVER right. I am waiting right now for an order I regret placing. This is my third order and the food is great (no matter what they happen to send) but don't order for delivery ever on Fridays, Saturdays, or any other day you would like to be treated nicely by the people taking the order. Maybe they feed the phone people angry pills and the rest stupid pills. I don't get it. This IS my last order.

I LIVE IN PARK SLOPE AND SINCE IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY, MY HUSBAND AND I DECIDED TO GO
OUT FOR A NICE BBQ DINNER. WE HEARD ABOUT JAKE'S THROUGH OUR OFFICE AT METROTECH
AND WANTED TO BE OUR OWN JUDGE. WE DECIDED ON THE RIBS. I ORDERED A HALF-RACK OF
THE BABY BACK PORK RIBS AND MY HUBBY HAD THE BEEF SHORT RIBS. OUR WAITRESS WAS
NEW ON THE JOB AND IT TOOK A FEW TRIES TO GET THE ORDER RIGHT. FOR DRINKS, I ORDERED
WHITE WINE AND BIG BOY WANTED A DARK BEER TO GO WITH THE BEEF RIBS. I WAS KIND OF
DISAPPOINTED THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE A LIQUOR LICENSE SO WE SHOT NEXT DOOR TO ALMA'S
AND GRABBED A FEW BOTTLES. FOR SIDES, WE ORDERED MAC & CHEESE, SPINACH, CHILI AND
BAKED BEANS. I WAS ON MY 2ND BOTTLE WHEN THE FOOD FINALLY ARRIVED PIPIN HOT. THE
AROMA WAS INCREDIBLE. THE TIPS OF THE RIBS WERE NICELY CHARRED AND THE MEAT WAS
VERY TENDER. BOBALU SCOFFED DOWN FIVE BEEF RIBS AND COULD'NT HANDLE ANOTHER
MORSEL. HIS MOUTH WAS COVERED IN BBQ SAUCE HE LOOKED PRETTY SATISFIED AND STUFFED.
WE SAVED ONE RIB FOR OUR LAB AT HOME AND TOOK HOME THE BONES. ALL THE SIDES WERE
DEMOLISHED AND JUST ENOUGH ROOM FOR MY BIRTHDAY CAKE. THE WAITRESS BOUGHT A
CANDLE AND WISHED ME A HAPPY BIRTHDAY WHICH MADE ME FEEL REAL SPECIAL THAT NIGHT.
SHE BROUGHT OVER THESE DARK AND SWEET PECANS COMPLIMENARY OF THE HOUSE AND
THEY WERE REALLY GOOD. JAKE'S BBQ HAS GREAT FOOD BUT'S IT NOT A ROMANTIC SPOT AT ALL.
IT SEEMS THEY HAVE QUITE AN OUTGOING BUSINESS AND IT GETS KIND OF NOISY. I DIDN'T MIND
NOR DID HUBBY. HE'S A COP AND SEES A LOT. ON THE WAY OUT HE SAID IT'S A PRETTY GOOD JOINT WHICH SURPRISED ME BECAUSE HE ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT THE JOB. WE WERE ANXIOUS
TO GET BACK TO THE SLOPE AND REALLY CELEBRATE MY BIRTHDAY! MY ONLY THOUGHT NOW WAS
CAN THE SMALL BLUE PILL REALLY WORK WITH ALL OF JAKE'S RIBS IN OUR BELLIES? WHEN
ALL WAS SAID AND DONE WE BOTH SMILED AND HOPED TO GO BACK TO JAKE'S AND DO IT ALL OVER
AGAIN. SWEET SUSIE.

Pros: WELL-PREPARED BBQ CUISINE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE

Cons: DON'T PROPOSE TO HER OR HIM IN THIS BBQ JOINT

.

First off, one gets heaps of food for the price, so if you like mediocre BBQ and plenty of it, this is your place. But, you'd be best ordering delivery, as the atmosphere is less palatable.
There were condiments and place settings piled up on a table in the middle of the restaurant. There was a woman eating watermelon and manning the phone at a table near the cash register counter, which made the table in public look like a makeshift office. Across from her, in a table across the restaurant, were two delivery guys counting $20's, as they sat near their delivery bags.
The kitchen is in view, and I knew we were in for a treat when a majority of the food went in an out a series of about three microwaves. Microwaves are not a good sign if you are looking for the freshest food.
The food was lukewarm. I struggled with the pork ribs a bit, and they certainly were not ?falling off the bone?.
The restroom was that of a ?developing nation.? It was dilapidated and dirty. Not that I needed to eat in there, but visiting a clean bathroom to wash BBQ sauce of one?s hands is inevitably part of the overall BBQ dining experience.
Again, we brought plenty of food home with us. We?ll just have to be creative in incorporating the leftovers into something more exciting that the food as it was served.

Pros: One gets tons of food

Cons: The food is average, at best

We order delivery form here quite often. Hands down, the best ribs in the area. Love the sides too. And reasonably priced for what you get. Our only complaint is that there's always something wrong with our order. Nothing major -- mabe a missing side... or no ketchup... things like that. If it would tighten up on the details, this place would be perfect.

Pros: Ribs, all the sides, good value

Cons: attention to detail for delivery (things missing or switched)

Got Jake's delivered the other night and it was really satisfying. Two people with pretty good appetites can split any of the combo dinners (we had the Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, cornbread, and mac n' cheese) and be full as full can be. Delivery was fairly quick (about a half hour), and for $15 plus tax and tip I thought it was a good deal. Fried chicken didn't have a ton of meat on it, but otherwise tasty.

My boyfriend and I decided to try this place after all the hype we read about it and were thoroughly disappointed. The food was BLAND. Collard greens should be cooked with apple cider vinegar, not steamed. Everything needed to be salted. Definitely not going back and totally not worth the hype!

Great brisket and beef shortribs on our last two visits. Next time will order one full meal (comes with two sides and biscuits or mini-corn muffins) and share it. There is an ample choice of sides. The green salad was very fresh and more than lettuce and tomatoes, it included cauliflower, carrots and green peppers. The vegetarian baked beans were nothing special until I added mustard. The greens are vegetarian - made with butter, not meat - a vegetarian friend could probably find enough for a meal here to come with you.

The couple next to us agreed that the barbecue was better than another well known chain which we all like and that Jakes was worth the trip.

Decor is modern basic, with enough light to see your food and your friends and the original photos on the wall during daylight hours. Haven't been there at night, yet. The atmosphere was relaxed, service friendly.

Parking was easy.

Pros: Great brisket, great value, easy parking

Cons: not romantic; food not served all at one time, if you care - I don't.

Truly the worst "barbeque" that I've ever had. Pulled chicken was boiled and bland. Nothing we ordered had any flavor. Sides were mediocre at best and biscuits were inedible. Simply awful.

I love the ribs, they have the best sauce, the corn muffin and the mash, yum. My husband loves the southern fried chicken. We order every now and then, and it's great every time. We highly recommend Jakes.

Our family does a lot of takeout and when we treat ourselves to Jake's it's really an event. Not often because it's super rich and the portions are large. The barbeque is great, but my personal favorites are the *fried catfish nuggets* and the *sauteed rice and black eyed peas*. So, so good. I highly recommend.

I love BBQ, my friends and I try different BBQ spots throughout New York City. Hanging out in this section of Brooklyn, a hot & new developing community, we stopped in Jake's. The burgers were thick & juicy with noticeably excellent beef quality, plus a wonderful sauce, the pork chops were tender and slightly grilled, the broiled salmon like the chops was excellent. We plan on coming back to this little hot spot. ps - The decor is contemp/modern, the walls are adorn with original oversize photos of country scenes, talking with the owner, I learned he did the photography.

Pros: great food, decent price, friendly service

Cons: parked 2 blocks away

.

The ribs were very mediocre, too cloyingly sweet sauced, the cheese fries were one solid mass of cheese and the "2 juicy thick pork chops" were hockey pucks

This place stinks. Dine elsewhere.

Cons: food, value, no authenticity

These people are clueless. The owner has taken over three dining tables for her computer, adding machine, phone and assorted and untidy papers. We received the vegetable side dishes first- the mixed hot veggies, the cole slaw, the baked beans. 10 minutes later we got the potato skins. 10 minutes after that we got our main courses. The half ribs were tasteless but with a good sauce it could have been saved. The broiled filet of sole was like filet of shoe sole. An embarrassment.

Pros: no pros at all

Cons: clueless owner, worthless BarBQ sauce, inept cooks

too much food for some, is great value for others. There is a lot of food, but it's some of the best BBQ found in Brooklyn. The restaurant itself is nothing charming, but these guys do most of their biz for deliveries, which is how I usually get it, and often.

Tooooo much food, dinner for 2 was nearly 6 meals after we took out what we didn't eat! BBQ was good but the sauce was just ok. This place is a great value spot but for BBQ experts go somewhere else
