Employed Steamatic Team for Mold remediation, for a mild mold problem in an older basement. Had to have the team comeback a second time. Complained afterwards that felt the job had still not been done effectively. Spoke with an engineer that they referred me to, again, no follow-up! Finally paid to have a Mold specialist from Acquity Engineers run tests which verified my suspicions. Not being an expert in Mold Remediation, I didn't realize that I should not have paid Steamatic until Lab Tests came back with acceptable results. Now looking at having to pay another $4700 to have the basement dry-ice blasted and retested! On top of the $2422 I paid Steamatic! So, consumers beware!
Re: Response
Steamatic did return to re-do after it was 1st determined that they were not as comprehensive as they should have been. But after testing determined that there were areas where mold was still intact, I enlisted another company to address the issue (the 2nd company really botched the job, no negative pressure/air scrubbers in place, negligent containment, but refunded me 100%). Steamatic did return, after the 3rd company yielded satisfactory results , to reclean the HVAC system at no cost. BBB negotiations w Steamatic did result in my recouping $650. I still feel that Steamatic misrepresents their capability in this area. Mold remediation, done properly, is a very invasive process! And should involve a comprehensive plan requiring much detail to containment. Puroclean MRS is the company that did the final project, with Acquity Engineers doing the final lab testing. Although I obtained a commercial grade Hepa air scrubber from another source, since Puroclean only had the smaller portable ones.

Business Response:

Response to Anonymous As hard as you try to explain and set expectation levels not everyone can be satisfied. Steamatic was hired by this homeowner for mold remediation/clean up at their home. Steamatic presented a detailed scope of work that they would follow for the visable mold in basement. The scope of work strongly recommended having a clearance test done by a qualified Industrial Hygenist upon the completion of work so everyone would know job was completed and problem solved, This homeowner refused to pay for the clearance test and asked us to do what was detailed in the scope of work. We did exactly what was in scope of work, went back a second time to reclean even though it was not requireds. Clean her air ducts at no charge even though it was not required. When the homeowner finally had testing company come out the problems referred to by the company were out of the scope of work that Steamatic was hired to do and only would have been recognizd by a testing company. Mold abatements are not easy. That is why we recomment a clearance test be done after our work. This homeowner refused to do this and is blaming our company for their refusal to pay for initial clearance test. Rick
