Took the folks to 1705 recently - the decor/atmosphere was great, the greeters were very nice and courteous, but the overall experience was just average. First I ordered the flank steak (or was it flat iron?) and they took the order, then later told me they were out. Kinda weird since there appeared to be about 5 people in the restaurant, but ok. I ordered a burger, and a side of asparagus. Turns out they were out of that too. Or as the waiter put it, "Well, we do have some asparagus left, but we're saving it in case someone orders Steak Oscar". Wow, thanks dude. Glad you put hypothetical customers who might not order a particular dish over the customer already sitting there.

The Lobster Risotto was VERY generous with the lobster, but was way too greasy and salty. We also ordered roast chicken, which basically tasted like Boston Market covered in ham and cheese. Yeah, I didn't understand it either. I ordered a hamburger cooked rare (totally my fault - i was just shocked to see a restaurant cook it rare for you and curious to try it) and needless to say i spent the rest of the night in the bathroom. Totally my fault though.

Seems kind of ridiculous to say a gourmet steakhouse is overpriced, I know. But...it's overpriced. There shouldn't be any place on earth where a cup of hot water and a bag of tea is $4. If this sounds like a deal to you, by all means enjoy. But there are better places to waste your money (It's Prime Only or Angus Barn are still the best)

Just do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Waiter just wasn't with it, like he was on mars. Food was just average and not near worth the $.

I recently ate at 1705 and their staff want above and beyond. we had a vegetarian in the group and the chef actually came to the table to design a meal for the veg head.

i made an online reservation and requested a birthday cake for my boyfriend. i expected a small cake that they already had on the menu but they prepared and actual birthday cake. Pretty cool from never talking to an actual human just making a note on my reservation.

I made an 8:00 reservation on a Friday night for a one year anniversary. I ordered flowers from Fallon's Flowers and had them sent to the restaurant and requested they be on the table when we arrived. I also brought my own wine; only $15.00 corking fee to enjoy my own Cab without a ridiculous markup.

The service was excellent. Nothing stands out as not up to par. The flowers were on the table when we were sat. Because this was a special occasion, the server brought champagne and strawberries with chocolate on the house. We ordered the Bibb Salad and the cheese cart for starters. The only negative thing at all is we ordered the Onion Soup and it never came out; the server just forgot, and we were so busy with the cheese and salads that we didn't care. I'm sure if we'd mentioned it, it would have been delivered immediately. The server, Nicole, was absolutely WONDERFUL at pacing our meal; that's not something I see very often. Nothing was rushed, and there was very little sitting and waiting for the next course. The cheese cart was fantastic, we sampled four cheeses, and the Bibb wedge was also good, if not a little on the sparse side.

I ordered the Kansas City Prime strip, and she ordered the Choice strip. Her steak was on par with a decent chain steakhouse, but mine definitely goes into my top 5 steaks I've ever eaten; and I ate steaks almost every night for eight years traveling every state between upstate New York and South Florida. It had the characteristic slight gamey taste of a Prime dry aged cut of beef. Cooked perfectly, I couldn't ask for better for $32.00 . The sweet potatoes are a must-have side, the potatoes with white truffle oil are delectable, and the creamed spinach, though nothing out-of-this-world, was very good. We topped it off with Creme Brulee and I had the gourmet coffee brewed at the table with a French press. Both of these were outstanding, particularly the coffee.
We weren't disappointed at all.

I won't bore you by stating what others have said. Yet, some important points are 1) WAY overpriced for what you get. 2) Food lacks flavor 3) Average ambience 4) No expresso.

We paid $165 for 2 people for dinner. This was 3 drinks, 1 appetizer, 2 steaks and 2 sides. Nothing was impressive. We left very upset with ourselves for spending that much money on an unimpressive experience.

My recommendation - spend the same amount of money and visit Second Empire. Or cut your cost in half and visit Lone Star.

The food is excellent. The crabcake is to die for!! My only advice. Get the Cheese lady to do the cheesecart. She is FANTASTIC!!!!!!

My wife and I went to 1705 Prime for the first time on Saturday night and I have to say, it was just ok. The food was ok, the service was actually good, the atmosphere was ok, and the restaurant was dead on a Saturday night. I wanted to ask a manager how everything was going but I never saw a manager and they never checked on our table. Which seems to be a big problem in all local restaurants.
Just sending my thoughts, because we just really didn?t know what to think of 1705 Prime. We will not be back until they get busier. We really like places that are loud and has lots of atmosphere. they are really lacking that right now.

My boyfriend likes to smoke cigars sometimes when he drinks, and lately we?ve had a difficult time finding nice places to enjoy good cigars. I was really happy to hear that 1705Prime is allowing its customers to smoke in the stinger lounge. They have introduced a cigar menu, with reasonable prices ranging from $11-$25 and do house their own cigar humidor. I definitely plan to take advantage of the cocktail specials, while my boyfriend enjoys their cigar menu.

My friend and I went to dinner here last night and had a wonderful time. The service was good, but the food was fantastic. I had the lobster risotto with vanilla and saffron and it is one of the best I've ever had. The creme brulee for dessert is also delicious. Highly recommended!

O.K., I am mad. I am mad that the reviews that are positive are, from what I can tell, all fake. Go ahead, read them. Check out how many other restaurants they have reviewed. NONE! Oh, wait a minute, one reviewer, ?representin,? has only reviewed the restaurants that are owned by Rocky Top Hospitality Group. Co-winkydink? I think not. You big ole? faker. You should be ashamed. Notice how all the good reviews mention the fact that they can accommodate a crowd or you can have a function, reception, business crowd at the restaurant. Also, they mention specials and one even talks about the manager, ?Gregg.? Wow, two gg?s in Gregg, I would not know that unless I know him. Would you? I would watch out for that lighting strike.
The food is sooooooooo bad. I'll write a longer review later, when I'm not so angry. Check out the empty parking lot. That is a sign I should have taken into consideration with my choice to dine at this restaurant.

I recently dined at 1705. This was definetly the best steak in town. Being a bit of a "foodie" I like to go out to the new hotspots. I was extremely impressed with the entire experience, from the minute we walked in untill the minute we left. No attention to detail was missed. The hostess and Manager at the door were very nice upon our arrival. The service from Jaclyn was exceptional, and the wine list was the best I have seen in Raleigh, maybe even the state. There was no overpriced wine selection that no one would buy, as you tend to see in other high-end establishments. I had a party of four, so we decied to try as much as possible. The lobster fingers were my personal favorite, and the table loved the crab cake and tartar. But by far, the steaks were the best part. I love the fact they "dry age." I have not seen that before in raleigh. The ribeye filet and prime cap were excellent, they were cooked to perfection and well worth the price tag. The sides were good - everyone loved the sweet potatoes and creamed spinach. At the end of the meal the manager, Patrick, said hello and asked how everything was, he was very nice and very professional. He made us feal at ease, unlike some of the stuffy resturants in town. We were so stuffed we did not have dessert, but can't wait to go back. I highly recommend this for any occasion. It is well worth it.

I took my family out for a celebration dinner last week and thought I would give this place a try. I frequented Michael Deans and was curious to see if 1705 would live up to the hype. It didnt. When we sat down, we were the only party in the dining room. When we left, we were the only party in the dining room. I'm not surprised! Bottom line, if you are looking for a dinner experience, stay away from 1705 Prime until they get it right.

-Nice decor, the side tables are divided by curtains and it was an intimate, private experience
-The waiter was excellent

cons:
-Food was average at best - stay away from the lobster soup, blah.
-The waiter raved about the dry aged steaks, but it was not impressive, especially for the $50 steak price. I travel frequently for my job and have eaten many steaks at average rated restaurants, and this was an average steak.
-The steaks were not cooked to our order, way undercooked.
-Rediculous prices, they are way to proud of their restaurant. I dropped $300 on our party of 4.

Being foodies, my friend and I put 1705 on our local "to do" list. We had a drink in the nearly empty bar (6:30 on a Friday night-3 other folks besides us). Bartenders were nice and jovial. We headed to our table where we had an awesome waiter, William. He was very knowledgeable with particulars to all (our many) questions. He was very attentive during the evening w/out being invasive. We started out with the Tempura Battered Lobster Fingers. The inside was "doughy" and NOT what is expected with tempura (crispy). There was a slight peep of lobster inside we and expected a bit more for $17 for an appetizer! My friend had Lobster Bisque which was disappointing and although the menu said "Warm," the heat was left in the kitchen. We did share the Bibb Salad (delish) and they were kind enough to split it in the kitchen for us on 2 plates. We also shared the Heirloom Tomato app and that was awesome. We shared the Porterhouse for 2, and it was cooked to perfection, but I've had beef just as good (and better) locally as well. The side of Lyonnaise North Carolina Sweet Potatoes is a MUST have if you go. Our other side was the Mushrooms, which were "average." The Peaches 5 Ways dessert was fabulous as was the chocolate cake w/ cherry sauce. The place was sparse in terms of customers on a Friday night. We stayed until 11 chatting and the place was reset for the next day, so we saw what folks came and went. We probably won't eat here again because the price ($100 each including tip and excluding bar drink) was a bit much for the night, taking all things into account. The service was Five Stars... food and prices (and we're used to pricey meals-those worthy of such) Three Stars. Seeing all the empty chairs on a Friday night made us wonder if 1705 has long legs, or will be soon a "used to be" place. If they can do SOMETHING to trim the $$$$ a tad, they might hang on, if not, I'm afraid they won't be able to keep the doors open with a 1/4 filled restaurant with LOTS of staff!

My first visit to Prime was mixed. Drinks were a bit slow but as ordered. Wine prices were on the high side but a very nice selection. Service was superior! Between the six of us, I sampled four of the appetizers, all were excellent with one exception: the foie gras, a personal favorite, was beautifully sauced and presented...all one ounce of it! I personally buy my own so I know what it costs, and at 19.00 per order they make about $460.00 per lobe which costs them about $65.00 to $80.00 to buy.. That's an unreasonable mark-up to say the least! 3-4 ounces per serving as opposed to one ounce is more in line. FYI after I complained about foie gras portions, the chef did send out a few more pieces as a side to my steak... which I appreciated. The lobster bisque was super, but tepid. The steak was wonderful! Cooked to order, presented well, sauced well and overpriced. Would I eat there again? Yes, after they iron out a kink or two...

My wife and I just moved here from washington DC and we like to think that we know food. They have great restaurants in the DC area and we would go out about 2 to 3 times a week. We moved here about 5 months ago and we were having such a hard time finding great sushi and great steaks!!. Well a friend of ours told us about this new restaurant that is owned by rocky top and that it is awsome!!!!!!. So we happened to go to twisted fork first and i was really not impressed. But my wife and i are not easily impressed so,,,,, Anyway we made a reso with 1705 Prime and we didn't tell anyone it was my wifes b-day. Well let me just tell you, the restaurant is great!!!! The rooms are beautiful and the lounge is cool. But it got better. The restaurant service and food was top notch!!!!!!! Our server name was mark or markus and he was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and also very friendly. Our busser or server assisant was very friendly also. The food ........ Great. The salmon was fantastic and the porterhouse was ......ooooo my god good. The bread sucked!!!. But the steak was better then anything in NC and DC. Also the general manager of the restaurant greg i believe stop by and welcomed us to the restaurant. Well i guess he picked up that it was a special evening for us because he brought over some chocolate and strawberries and also "which i thought was a great touch" he brought over a toast of champagne. just enough to wish my wife a fantastic and wonderful night. Well I just wanted to thank 1705 for a couple of things.

2. Thank you for the special attention on such a great day for my wife
3. and also thank you for the service that we are having such a hard time finding in NC.
4- And Greg thank you for picking up the fact that it was a special night. It ended up being even better. ha

My husband and I came out with another couple and were sorely disappointed. It took forever to get drinks, even water. Once the water arrived it was warm. We had to ask repeatedly just to get some ice and the waiter brought one glass of ice for the four of us. Wine took much longer though it was at an acceptable temperature. Food was below average for the price and we are willing to spend if it's good. For the money there are plenty of other places to go.

Last week we celebrated our 25th Anniversary with friends and decided to go to 1705 Prime. The decor was simply elegant. We were seated at a very nice table ,semi-private yet romantic.The GM who introduced his name as Greg,welcomed us with chocolate covered strawberries and champagne for our anniversary. that was a very unexpected treat. Our server Scott introduced himself and told us about how they dry aged some of their beef in house .My husband "big steak eater "asked what he recommended, and Scott suggested the bone in sirloin. DELICIOUS!! That steak was so tender and flavorful,he almost didn't share a bite with me.But he did ,( I drove!!). I opted for the rib eye filet (also very good) with a side of rissoto,but was staring to feel full as I was anticipating having the creme brulee for two.So lunch tommorrow will be just as good with my leftovers.My friends ordered the porterhouse for two and equally enjoyed their meals as well. I forgot to include the two wonderful appetizers that we started off with .Lobster fingers served with 50yr old sherry vinagraitte and carmelized sea scallops in a lobster mushroom broth.The atmoshere , food and excellent service will make us and our friends return guests for life.

My dining experience at this establishment has been similar to the others who have posted low scores. The service was lacking on so many levels as well as lacking the professional attitude found in what one may call "upscale dining". I could live with the lackluster service if the food was better but it was not. I agree with others that its not worth the money.

And upon reading the positive posts I can't help but to get the feeling that they are written by the general manager and the staff of this restaurant. But who could blame them, this place is a total sham.

Finally a night out without kids so we tried 1705. We were seated along the perimeter which has curtains separating tables- great table and offered privacy while we could still view everything. A bit snooty and everyone seems to check you out as you're seated. Some folks actually looked ticked that we were getting one of the best tables while they were out in the open - mostly the old folks and a couple of dyed-blond "trophy wife wannabes" who scowled at us a few times. A lot of folks seem to want to be seen, but trust me - no eye candy here. A very stark interior and they really do need to change the music. We sat for 10 min before we were offered water, another 10 before drink order. Pretty slow from there. Another 15 min to order. Our one piece of bread and and frozen butter arrived after appetizers.
Bay scallops tasted fishy and were tiny. Lump crab was generous and o k but needed more flavor - sauce was bland. I called ahead for the prime rib cap, it was good and juicy but not worth $48 + sides.
Wife's steak was dry. Everything just lacked the flavor excellence that they're charging for and you would expect. I thought the same about the old "butterflies" restaurant, menu looked good but just lacking That "knock your socks off FLAVOR". Got sides of potatoes and peppers/onions - good but nothing special.
Service was very painfully slow, although they weren't busy and had a large staff. Our bill was $165+ 40 tip for 2glasses of wine, 2 cocktails, 2 appetizers, 2 steaks, 2 sides, no desert, $205 total.
Every time we try some place new, we say "darn, for the same or less $, we could have gone to the Bistro at Five Points with impeccable service, incredibly flavorful menu that changes monthly, very romantic and high-end upscale setting without the snootiness". I guess we're just spoiled by their perfection.
I'd probably come back for the prime rib, but we were very disappointed with service and rest of the meal.

My husband and I made reservations for dinner for our 10th wedding anniversary. It was a Thursday evening and it was not busy at all. The waiter was great, menu was a la carte and to be honest the prices shocked us. We paid exactly the same amount as we did when we went to MORTONS STEAKHOUSE IN CHICAGO!!! Hello!!!??? The atmosphere and service was not half as good as Mortons. The food was good but nothing was special about the experience or atmosphere. It was almost boring! If prices were posted on their website, I would not have chosen that restaurant. In case you're wondering, we both had a steak, we both had a side dish, we both had a salad, and I had 1 glass of the house wine and the total came to $120.00!! Add a $25 tip to that too! YIKES!!

The Sunday started well; the restaurant was only about 1/4 full, so we were quickly seated, and were quickly greeted by a very personable and friendly server. Then the problems started. Our drinks took 20
minutes to come to the table - even though the bartender was quite visibly doing nothing. I stopped my server twice to reiterate the drink order, went ahead an placed our dinner order - including a request for a bottle of cabernet to arrive with the steaks. Our drinks, appetizers and salads appeared almost simultaneously (one of my pet peeves), but were acceptable. Then the wait began. 20 minutes after I had given my salad plate back to my server I asked about my steak. She said she'd check on it. 15 minutes later I waved her down and asked again. She said she'd see what she could do. An hour and a half after we entered the restaurant I finally got my steak. I reminded my server about the wine, and she disappeared - presumably to get it. I thought if the steak was good I could probably overlook the wait, but I sliced into a "medium-rare" steak that was about as well-done as a steak can be cooked without actually turning it into charcoal. The Manager offered to replace it, but I was so disgusted by that time I had lost my appetite. I told him that I didn't want to wait another hour to eat, to take it off my tab - I'd eat a burger on the way home. My wife's steak was OK, so I waited while she ate. The bottle of Cab finally appeared about the time she finished. In 50 years of dining and working in restaurants I've had some awful experiences, but this one could hold its own with the worst of them. Suffice to say we won't return!

I kept hearing about 1705 Prime and decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did!!!!!!! The dining room is elegant yet modern, and the layout is perfect for either a romantic meal or business gathering. The service was outstanding and attention to detail was superb. The star of the show however is the food. Not pretentious but elegant. Not overwhelming but just the right amount. The steaks are the best I've ever had, and the sides are something to rave about. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, the server mentioned the cheese cart and we were in heaven. The perfect ending to our meal and one of the best selections of cheese in a restaurant we have found. I love this place and will make it a frequent stop in our dining travels. Thanks

I have experienced 1705 steaks in the lounge and dinning room a few times now and everytime the experience has been incredible. I am not a steak snob or wine snob but I love the dry aged steaks at 1705 (I think the aging process helps tenderness and flavor). My server recommended the cheese cart and it was a perfect set up with a bottle of wine while we waited for our steaks. The atmoshere in the dinning room is very nice and the service was exceptional. I would definetly recommend 1705 for business functions or a great way to impress someone. The location was a little hard to find but its where Micheals Deans resided for a number of years. The best steak by far and the homeade ice cream with French Press coffee was a great finish. I have been to the regular steak joints in the area and they are good but 1705 had a unique feel and its not a chain.

I am a person who works in sales so I have eaten lots of places. I like certain things in a restaurant and definitely have higher expectations based on price. I didn't like the fact that they didn't post their menu pricing on their own website. This was a family dinner be paid for by us, not my corporate card. I made reservations, we arrived on time and were seated immediately. Very nice decor, and set up of the restaurant. Waiter explained the menu, what "makes" 1705 (on site dry cooler) 1 of 3 on the east coast. Recommends the steak, informs us they are out of the Prime cap. Its 7:30, I had understood that if you want the prime cap you need to reserve it when you make reservations. No problem lots of other steak choices.
We had the $5 martini because they are on special on Wednesday. Told after they come that price is if you are in the stinger lounge, but our waiter will make them $5 anyway (which he does).
Although I will say that the overall feeling now becomes a "how much money will you spend with us here" atmosphere, as opposed to thanks for dining with us at 1705, we value you as a customer. It sounds crazy but trust me that makes a large difference.
Salads all come out, they are fair at best. Everyone ate them but no person said wow what a fresh salad.
Steak and sides come out promptly. Steaks are excellent. I had the Harris Ranch aged in house ribeye. Yes it is very good. Cooked perfect at medium rare. My fathers at medium well was undercooked. We each had sides and the lobster tail. Sides are terrible and lobster was WAY overcooked. I am not exaggerating, my dog would not have eaten it. I am the type who will not complain, but my brother did. They removed only his lobster from the bill. I was stunned when I saw this, as it was very apparent none of us ate the lobster tail. In a truly well run restaurant the tails and sides would have not made it to the table, and if it somehow did, all 4 would have been removed from the bill. I will not return.

I was absolutely blown away from the moment I walked in. I couldn't believe how beautiful this place was - it definitely set the mood for an incredible experience. The host staff was friendly and able to accomodate us even though we didn't have a reservation. During our brief wait for a table we stepped into the Stinger Lounge for a martini. I was definitely impressed with the size of the martini and even more by the extensive wine menu. We shared the lobster fingers appetizer (to die for) and then we were lead to our table in the dining room. We ordered a bottle of champagne and the General Manager (Gregg) stopped by with fresh strawberries soaked in a lightly sweet sryup to eat with our champagne. Impressive! I frequent South Beach and always find myself having champagne at all of the hot spots but have never been served strawberries without having to ask for them. We ordered the Ribeye Filet and Pan Seared Grouper and I can honestly say that that was the best piece of fish and the best piece of meat that I have ever put in my mouth. The truffled mashed potatoes are nothing short of amazing. The creamed spinach was the best ever - not too overdone with cream or cheese so that you could still get the flavor of the spinach. I forgot to mention the salads - we had both the ceasar and the house - those were the best salads that Raleigh has to offer. I would come here just to have a salad (too bad they are not open for lunch) Unfortunately we were stuffed and could not try any dessert. But that just gives me a reason to come back and I can't wait!!!

I have spent years traveling for business living in hotels and eating at restaurants along the east coast at my employer?s expense. Rumor has it that I have eaten enough filets to wipe out several herds of cattle and there is some truth to that. I have my favorites and I am certainly skeptical when it comes to rating a piece of beef! Recently, my lovely wife approached me about going to dinner for our anniversary I began searching for a unique place here in Raleigh. We loved 1705's atmosphere. Quite, dimly lit dining area that offers smaller tables tucked away along the sides for a private feel. We were treated like honored guests by staff and received attention as if we were the only guests there. I made reservations online and noted it was our anniversary which they obviously took note of. After receiving drinks we were surprised with a plate of fresh strawberries and a bowl of hot chocolate for dipping. She was sold from that point on!! Appetizers, lobster bisque (with a generous portion of real Lobster) was excellent. I really came for the steak and wanted to get my first try at the TRULY dry-aged beef. We both ordered 9 oz filets medium rare and they were exceptional. I would rate the steak on my top 5 of all the places I have visited over the years and definitely the best I have had in the triangle. Choice cuts and cooked perfectly with a flavor unique to others which I assume is a result of the dry-aged process with no overwhelming charcoal or hickory flavors that sometimes hide the true flavor of fine beef. For dessert, we tried the homemade ice cream and my wife claims it is the best she has ever had. Definitely a step up from Breyers. To top it off they brought us fresh made donuts on the house. The only negative thing about our trip is that we ate too much! What a wonderful night of dining only minutes from our house. Thanks to all the folks at 1705 for making our anniversary so special. Now I have raised the bar for next year!!!!

As a future foodie bride who recently moved to Raleigh, I was excited at the prospect of seeing the event space and tasting the much acclaimed menu. The restaurant's decor is modern & tasteful. The menu was nicely diverse. The drink "manual" is cumbersome and the sommelier overstated the quality of a bottle of wine which we later confirmed retailing at $ 12.00!!! I ordered the Caesar salad and several parties ordered the deconstructed Wedge salad made with proscuitto, and Bibb lettuce. My onion soup was over salted but had all the lovely richness of a good Onion Soup. The lobster bisque was exceptional and the lobster meat sweet. Upon clearing that course, another salad was served to one of the parties instead of the Lobster bisque he had ordered and my Caesar salad was reminiscent of a bottled dressing version. Both the Ribeye Filet and 14 oz filet ordered as medium were served as a rare. So rare that the parties sent back the steaks only to be served again with same level of doneness, rare and now with a tough outer layer. The 20 oz. Rib eye that was ordered was also undercooked. Sides ordered were the Sweet Potatoes Lyonnais, Creamed Spinach and Blue Cheese Potato Puree which were all delicious. The Smoked Paprika Pommes Frites was the star dish of the evening if only they had been served uncovered so that would retain some of the crunchiness. The "Wild Mushroom" ragout was the single worse example of "chophouse" mushrooms I've ever experienced. They were rubbery and without any flavor. The wait staff appeared to be short staffed. The overflowing garbage cans in the women's filthy bathroom completed the experience. After reading the many reviews, I had high hopes for both the event space and restaurant. Now I have neither, our table's consensus was that the restaurant was on the cusp, either of greatness or the slide into the sea of Raleigh's many mediocre restaurants.

My wife loves food so we eat out alot. We decided to try 1705 Prime when it first opened. When we first walked in we were very surprised on how modern, classy, and elegant the inside of the restaurant is. We decided to order a bottle of wine and the cheese cart for an appetizer. Patrick, our informative, attentive, and friendly server, made our mouths water with the many variety's of cheese. We both ordered the filet as it's our favorite cut. (Other friend's have said the Prime Cap is another favorite). For sides, we shared the Blue Cheese Au Gratin Potatoes and asparagus - yum! My wife also loves dessert - so we had to try the homeade ice cream with unique flavors such as cinnamon, basil, or bourbon. Unbelievably good. Since we didn't want the night to end, we headed to the Stinger Lounge connected through a hallway next door. The decor is modern with a fresh crisp and comfortable look. You could either eat a casual dinner at the table tops or chill in the lounge chairs or hang out at the bar. A perfect place to either have a few drinks or eat a meal. We have been to the steak chains scattered through the Triangle, and nothing compares to the food, service, and atmosphere 1705 Prime and the Stinger Lounge provide. Another incredibly delicious locally-owned Rocky Top Hospitality Restaurant.

P.S.We have since been back to attend a beautiful wedding reception (they have rooms for large party's available) and also celebrated our 2nd anniversary there.
Once you go, you will be back again and again.

I went to the The Stinger Lougne at 1705PRIME and tried the Prime Cap last week and it was amazing. The serever told me this cut of beef is dry aged in house and full of flavor (I was impressed). We started out with the Lobster soup and Bibb Lettuce wedge and we loved it. For our main course we had the Prime Cap and the Seafood Tower. The atmospher is great because you can have dinner in the lounge because its is non smoking. Great staff and feel! Thank You 1705 I will be back soon!

I was rather disappointed by the food. The atmosphere is great, service not bad but food, not something i would go back for. THere was a party of 5 of us & we all concluded that we wouldn't go back, we had appetizers, main coarse dish & dessert & the only good thing was the steak, the sides were not good nothing i would recommend. If you like only steak & a good atmosphere go here but you will pay , what I think is too much money for a steak.. go to Ruth Chris or Angus Barn instead

We had a birthday to celebrate and knew we wanted a steakhouse. Following the other reviews here, decided to take a chance here and it was a good one. Upon entry we noticed it somewhat vacant for a Friday night - surprising but I guess the place is still new and the hype factor hasn't ruined it (yet). After being seated 3 people at a large round table we asked to be moved and this was not a problem. Our drinks and openers - salad and onion soup - were superb. This is the first really hot soup I've had in the Triangle - everyone else doesn't seem to care. For main course we ordered filet, rib-eye and Prime strip - all excellent. My rib-eye, done medium, felt like butter when I cut into it. Wines are reasonable and many available by the glass - at 1/4 the cost of a bottle. Our bill, which included a dessert and coffee for one, came to $210 + tip - reasonable for the quality. Service was attentive but not overbearing.

One comment: I would suggest they drop the old-style jazz (a la Sinatra, Cole Porter etc) which irritated us and might even prevent our return. It causes the ambience to be "nostalgic" which is not what everybody wants. A nice change would be to have modern piano jazz a la Bill Evans, Kenny Barron, Mehldau - you get the picture.

I made a reservation through open table for a family dinner after reading positive views thinking it would be a good meal. Saturday afternoon someone called to confirm our reservation and I double checked we'd have a nice private table (it was a Mother's Day dinner to avoid the masses at Brunch the following morning) and she told me we'd have a great table. We arrived a few minutes late and apologized - they dismissed our concerns right away making us feel very welcome.
It's a great setup - very chic with simple decor. The waiters are called "captains" and you get two per table to respond to everything you may or may not need. They were very attentive to questions/concerns and made sure we were happy. Some may feel it is a little too much and that they are overbearing, but I felt they could be located at a moments notice and were never hovering over us.
The menu was easy to understand and the portions were enormous for an a la carte menu. We ordered from the cheese cart and loved sampling a few. Salads arrived shortly after and were delicious - enough to be satisfied but not full and ruin the entree. The two sides "for 2 or more" easily filled five of us and are served family style. Four of us had the petite filet and they were absolutely delicious. Melt in your mouth type of beef.
What best proves the amazing service was the fact my sister is a vegetarian. The chef arrived at our table and asked her what she liked. When her food was done and served, he returned to explain what he made specifically for her and went as far as saying why he seared the artichoke hearts (to bring out the flavor of the sweet potato puree). Dessert was just as satisfying - I highly recommend the 1705 float.
We all left full (but not miserable we ate so much) and wanting to come back again soon. The bill was just over $300 and that is CHEAP for five people considering all the food and drinks we had. This exceptional dining experience is almost extinct these days. GO!!

What a Night! I like to call it the "Guys Steak Night!" All the guys wanted to go to the new 1705. I?m glad we did because the service was excellent and one of the owners Dean made a unique recommendation for the 'bone in' sirloin. Dean informed me that he had traveled to many meat houses around the country to find this delicious cut of beef. ?They don?t serve the ?bone in? in many restaurants? he told me, ?and we even have a special saw to cut it perfectly.? Well after devouring my meal, I have to say "Thank you Dean!" Look if you really want to have a Great meal with a pristine atmosphere, go to 1705. Oh, by the way?Ask for the 'bone in' sirloin!

I took a few customers to 1705Prime on a Wednesday night and they loved it. Moments after tasking his bite of Filet one of my customers said..?wow this is amazing?! Our waiter went over all the steak options and explained how they dry-age the steaks in-house. Great atmosphere and incredible steaks. 1705 also offers some unique side dishes- we ordered Sweet Potatoes , Risotto and wild mushrooms. All Great! For dessert they brought out a French Press coffee and creme brulee in 3 dishes. Great presentation. Highly Recommend 1705PRIME for dinner or banquets.

The best cuts of meat I have tasted in a very long time. I recommed going a little ealier than your dinner reservations to hang out in the lounge. The place was done right for sure. Everything from the lighting, floor, and most importantly the food. Enjoy! We have been there several times already and will be heading back..

The steak is absolutely head and shoulders above any other in Raleigh-Durham. They truly serve the best, most well-cooked steak in town. The sides are excellent (a la car) as well. Highly recommend if you enjoy a great steak at a very posh restaurant with an ultra-modern bar.

They have a very knowledgeable staff and a great selection of wines. Both times that I have been the steaks were cooked to perfection and tasted great. I am going to have to go back to try the bone in sirloin very soon. My wife and I both love the non-smoking stinger lounge. The atmosphere and style is so inviting for a large event or a small party of friends. I highly suggest giving this place a try, you will not be disappointed.

If you thought you had to go to Sullivan's or Angus Barn for the best steak in town, you better think twice. 1705PRIME not only beats them on the meal, but the elegance factor is through the roof. My wife and I had dinner there after enjoying some "giant" martinis (really a martini and a half) in the non-smoking Stinger Lounge (no more smelly clothes when you get home!) and had the best meal in recent memory. Steak tartar prepared fresh tableside, an exotic cheese cart with local choices (who knew Chapel Hill made awesome cheese?) and tender, flavorful steak that went down like butter. When it comes to anniversaries, weddings, impressing clients, whatever, there's only one choice now.

WOW, This place is amazing. Steaks were top notch and the service is second to none. The big thing i noticed is the steak quality. This is were prime is leaps and bounds over the competion. They use all Prime meats. I can't say that for the Only people.

Located in the landmark building made famous by Michael Dean's Seafood Restaurant and Oyster Bar, 1705PRIME Steakhouse in Raleigh (actually North Raleigh) brings to the area a style of its own. Upscale and Fine dining with what appears to be not one small detail left out. The steak selection is well above average, pricing was comparable as I expected. Ambience was very modern with dark, rich colors that scream class. Versatile Raleigh Restaurant with private rooms for parties and group dining and excellent for the small intimate group or couple for romantic dining. Service was definately with a smile, as my servers experience was evident within a minutes time. The steak is so tender it could have been cut with a butter knife. I was surprised to have seen things in such order with flawless presentation considering that 1705PRIME has just opened. Well done guys! Looks like another excellent eatery from the Rocky Top Hospitality Restaurant Group

What a change from the old Michael Dean's....this place is GORGEOUS!!!!!!! The curtains that separate tables in the dining room is really something and the menu is to die for. The cheese cart is unbelievable and there are so many cheeses I have never had before it was truly a learning experience. The service was attentive without being intrusive and the sommelier recommended a fantastic bottle of wine. The best change for me is the NON SMOKING bar!!!! I used to come here a lot when it was Michael Dean's but stopped because the bar was too smoky.....what a pleasure to enjoy the cheese on a couch in that great bar.
Definitely will be back to have cocktails with the girls now that we won't get smoked out!!!!!
