I didn't have a very good experience at Kevyn Major Howards. I've been a member of SAG for nearly 15 yrs. I have shot with many photographers over the years and have not had a bad experience with any of them (thankfully) until I shot with Kevyn. Firstly, I paid close to a grand with hair and makeup. But I knew this going into it and I reasoned that if I got a great headshot then it would definitely be worth every penny. WRONG. The first issue I had when I booked with them is that they make you fully aware that he doesn't shoot one person at a time-he shoots a group of people at the same time. I felt that might be a problem- I expressed so with his office. Their response was that if you were a good actor, it wouldn't matter how many people were there at one time. "As an actor, you have to wait on a set with other cast members, so why would it matter if other actors were present while you shot your headshots." I'm a pretty flexible and open minded person so I saw their point. However, the day of the shoot actors had to wait in lines at the bathroom to change between their shots, there wasn't that much seating room, etc.
But what made it the most uncomfortable about this particular situation was the fact that I wore low cut jeans. No one would think that this would be a big deal. This is what I usually wear- it's my own personal sense of style. And personally I would think you should wear something that you are comfortable in, right? I've never had a problem wearing them before. Well, it became a problem to me- because Kevyn also booked children actors to shoot along with the adults during my shoot. So when each person was being shot- actors would stand around and watch the current person being shot. So when it was my turn, and he had me sitting on the floor, my jeans would gap open in the back....for all of the children to see. Not only did I think this was totally inappropriate for minors to witness, but it made me very uncomfortable. This was only the first issue I encountered....Then moving on to the makeup...Kevyn and his employees really hype up the make up artist. When they are selling you the headshots in the beginning...they will tell you that the makeup artist is so good that she was one of the makeup artist on the Pirates Of the Caribbean. One would think that was a really great point, right? Well, I for one fell for it...thinking that if the makeup artist worked on such a huge budget film- that they must be good. This couldn't be far from the truth. As the pictures were coming up on the screen as Kevyn shot....my face looked really washed out. The makeup wasn't really up to par. In addition, I noticed that every actor there looked the same- down to our cookie cutter styled hair. I pulled Kevyn aside and told him my concerns. I told him that I felt like s Stepford Wife. That we all looked the same in the room and I had hoped that I would look like me- as I usually do. He reviewed the pictures that were coming through...and he agreed with me. He agreed that the makeup did not look good and that I looked like a Stepford Wife. (These are the exact words I used, and he did agree.) He said that he would re-shoot me. I was relieved about it. He even told me that he appreciated that I was being so nice about the whole thing. I'm a pretty calm person...but it did make me wonder why he would say that....were there other people who weren't so nice after their shoots? Hmmm. Oh well, he was very kind to me and promised to reshoot, so I was happy nonetheless. The only thing I would have to pay for again would be the hair and makeup, which was a concern in the back of my mind. So I weighed my options, and being your average struggling actor- I didn't really have a choice. I didn't have the money to shoot with another photographer at the time. So I rescheduled. When it came close to the re-shoot, I got a phone call from Kevyn's office telling me that he had to reschedule me again because he didn't realize he was going to be out of town during that time.I couldn't reschedule at that moment because I was going back to Florida for a few months. I would have to wait until I came back. When I came back, I really didn't have any money for the makeup artist, so I waited until I did. I called them and I was told that Keyvn would not reshoot me because too much time lapsed. I then reminded them that he cancelled my shoot because he forgot he was going out of town.I was told that they would call me back after they talked it over with Kevyn. They never called me back. I have placed several phone calls since and they don't even respond. Maybe they think since I am so nice that I would never really say anything about my experience. Well, now that I think about it...it probably is important as a fellow actor to let others know my experience. We're all going after the same common goal- to become a continual working actor. A thousand dollars later and I still have no headshots from Kevyn.

Kevin Major Howard has photographed some very important people and does amazing work! He is, in my opinion, very expensive, but some people believe he is worth the money. I personally was not able to afford is services, however, I've seen his work and it is crisp and attention-grabbing. If you have the money, I would highly recommend using him as your headshot photographer.

I drove from Florida to get my headshots done by Kevyn Major Howard. I saw the Discovery Channel show The Human Face and knew that he was the best. Once I got my headshots done I found agency representaiton and have been working in LA ever since. Through his connections that he freely shared I have developed my own production company and make movies for people that I enjoy working with. Kevyn Major Howard has opened more doors than I ever thought could happen. He is the best headshot photographer I've ever met and I am proud to have worked with him.

Kevyn Major Howard knows what he's doing and that's why all actors who are serious about their careers should go to him. Just look at his work! I got my pictures taken a few months ago and I love them! I did some agent mailings last week and I already have one agent wanting to sign me and I have a meeting with another agent next week. Kevyn's headshots REALLY do open doors. Anyone who is serious about their careers shouldn't think twice about shooting with Kevyn Major Howard.
