While Steaks on South at not my favorite in the city they certainly put up a good fight. The cheese steaks are good enough to be from Philly. And there is less of a line so if you need a Philly Cheese Steak in a hurry Steaks On South is the place to go!

Finally a cheesesteak made right at Steaks On South! Hanging on South Street for years I always avoided "the tourist trap" Jim's. SOS steaks are made to order. It takes a bit longer but it is truly fresh. They don't have a bunch of meat cooking all at once that they scope out to the masses.
The staff is fun and happy plus the bathrooms are clean.

Pros: Fresh, good value, delicious, friendly staff, clean place and up stairs seating

Cons: Parking

Steaks on south is without question the best steaks I have ever had in my life. The staff is very friendly and its very clean. We went to the flyers game a few nights ago, wanted something really good yet something fast so we stopped at Steaks on south for dinner. We were in and out in less than 20 minutes. Friendly sevrvice, very clean and the food was outstanding. I would definately recommend Steaks on South to friends and family. I also like the wide veriety of drinks available. They have the mini old style Coke bottles too. It's definately a 5 star restaurant and I'll go again.... Jim Harvey S.P

I had lunch at Steaks on South and ordered their cheese steak and fries special. I loved the meal,It was as good as Geno's and cost a little less. I came away full and sat at a clean table. It comes made to order. The service was quick and friendly.

Had a cheesesteak from Steaks on South about 2 weeks ago and was happy with the results. Now, if you are the blot your pizza with a napkin to get the grease off kind of person, this is not the place for you. The steak was very greasy, but, overall, the taste was right and so was the price!

I decided to try SOS, thinking that I could get a cheese steak quickly, and that it would be decent. I was wrong. It was not very busy, but I still managed to wait about 20 minutes for a cheese steak. All around, the steak was inferior to those of Pats, Jims, Ginos, and Ricks (but not as bad as Jakes, which is in Liberty 2 food court). I also had to miss 20 minutes of football because they do not have any flat screen TV's to watch while you wait around for lack luster food. This place has a long way to go as they cannot mimic the steaks their competitors cook.

Pros: Place seemed clean, staff was friendly

Cons: Second rate cheese steaks, slow service

I am a student who attends Jean Madeline, which is right next door to SOS. I go there daily, despite the fact that there are endless options in which to eat on South Street. You won't receive better customer service ANYWHERE on South Street. The staff is genuinely friendly and kind and I always feel like my business is greatly appreciated. I have never felt so welcomed in an eating establishment before. Plus, the food is great! A few other bonuses are the amount of seating available and they take credit cards, unlike most of the other steak places in Philly. You can't go wrong! :)

Pros: top notch customer service!

Cons: is a bit pricey, but so is everywhere on south street...

Pros: buffalo cheesesteak, fries, cheesesteak with fried onions, good roll

Cons: i wish i could eat more

BEST cheesesteaks are truly grilled at Steaks On South... and i order cheesesteaks a lot . i'm always looking for a better cheesesteak - i have not found one better. your meat is the best - no gristle and no fat... i love lean meat! Maybe you should call your steaks "Voted Best in Philadelphia - SOS's Gourmet Cheesesteaks"! - 'cos it's the truth! Also the place is great to people watch, with the big windows.

Pros: locals who know where to go for the true best

.

SOS makes one of the best cheesesteaks in Philly, and I?d go there for that reason alone. SOS subscribes to the philosophy that using a ton of meat makes for a great steak. As it happens, I too subscribe to that philosophy. That?s why I?m a big fan of this great steak place.

Pros: Mouth watering cheesesteaks, fries, chicken cheesesteaks, Friendly

Cons: Too many options to choose from

.

Hands down the worst place to get cheesesteaks, ever. They get your order wrong, make you wait to remind them to give you your drink after you wait 10 minutes for an awful cheesesteak. There is a sign that mocks Genos about what language you can order in, and it is a total joke. This place has no business mocking Genos when their steaks use half the amount of meat that Genos uses. This dive had no line on a sunny Sunday afternoon, while Jim's line stretched around the corner. They should try putting an honest amount of steak on their sandwiches. They really stink. Awful. Rather eat garbage for free.

Cons: lack of steak, customer service, bs coupons, staff does not speak english (no joke)

I was very suprised the steaks were slammin!!!!! i was scared to even try them out but one night i said i will and i did. now usually i go to jims or something like that and now jims can take me off there customers list because this place is way better then jims. Jims started to be to chewy anyway. anyone who reads this and wondering about this steak place well i would say that you should try it for your self. everyone has there own taste of what steak should taste like but i bet you majority of the people would love this place. dont be scared just go and try them.

Being a former meat eater I was expecting to eat only fries in the establishment. Let me tell you, this place caters to all. The vegetarian steak I had, my husband had the portabella mushroom sandwich... sat upstairs, watched the hustle and bustle of south street while enjoying my culinary delights. If you are new to the city. grab a tastykake. We met Pat the owner. A wonderful person and truly an ambassador of foods to your great city. Kudos!

Welcome Steaks On South! Not only is this a well needed addition to the cheesesteak scene in Philadelphia, but the quality is fantastic. I love the menu. And thank goodness for the amount of seating.

The service is great, the quality is superior, there is a much better selection, and the atmosphere is very friendly. Why would anyone consider going anywhere else? (I am too busy to get in line at a restaurant that is not appropriately staffed.)

Cons: Sanwhiches are too big!

Being a Philadelphian I was impressed. My family and I was greeted with a warm welcome. The choices were plentiful and what we ate was made to order. The meat was fresh, the customer service was excellent and the view of upstairs made the experience wonderful. They make Philadelphia proud by serving with brotherly love.

I live in the neighborhood and my husband and I have eaten mostly everywhere. Steaks on south has very poor customer service. Everyone in there is rude, not to mention, they mess up your order and act as if it is your fault. If this is how they treat the neighbors, how do they treat the tourists? I would never recommend this place to anyone, there are way better places on South street to get a cheesesteak with a smile.

Steaks on South is the best place for cheesesteaks. the steaks are excellent and the service is great. Too many places try to pass off day old bread to their customers but not Steaks on South. The second floor is also a great place for people watching. If you go Definitely try their Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak.

The food at Steaks on South is awesome. The atmosphere is great, sitting up on the second floor and overlooking South Streets vibrant life, makes this a great experience. The menu has everything from traditional steaks, chicken cheese steaks to a broccoli rabe and portabello mushroom combination (which is phenonminal.) South Street is a big tourist spot so Steaks on South (308 South St.) is well placed in that area. It is open late as well. Easy access to Indepence Hall and other hot spots in Philly. I was amazed how family-friendly they are. Perfect for large groups.
