As a service to the public and in particular the elderly, I would like to report a gross fraudulent business practice of Horizon Services, Inc. For the sake of the general good, the elderly should not do business with Horizon Services. Inc. The unconscionable practices that Horizon Services, Inc has perpetrated with us include but are not limited to the following: price gouging the elderly, taking advantage of the elderly under duress, and committing outright fraud on their sales contracts. These are but three of the despicable actions you need to know about Horizon Services, Inc. Add to this their poor workmanship, non-conformity to township ordinances, gross negligence bordering on criminal negligence in regards to their workmanship, you have enough reasons to avoid this vendor like the plague. Here are the specific details on my experience: My 90 year old grandmother called Horizon to request an estimate on installing a gas furnace. On September 25th, 2013, Doug Daily (Sales Representative for Horizon Services, Inc) met with my grandmother. Doug Daily proceeded to list all the reasons why the house needed a new furnace and how the chimney in its current state could cause carbon monoxide to leak into the house. He scared my grandmother into believing that she needed to order a new furnace immediately. His original quote was $10,500 dollars for a new gas furnace and removal of existing oil tank in basement. Yes you read that correctly- OVER TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS to replace the furnace, which is twice as much as other companies in the industry charge. He told her he would give her a "1500 dollar discount" if she agreed to buy the furnace immediately and have it installed the next day. When she stated that she wanted to think about it, he told her he could only give her the discount that same day and that she would no longer qualify for a discount the next day. Then he stated that in order to get the discount she needed to choose next day delivery. As a result of choosing next day delivery, he explained, we needed to sign a document waiving the consumer's "three day right to cancel". I examined the contract closely today. The contract clearly states that "State law requires that this waiver must be in the consumer's handwriting. It must be signed and dated and must describe the situation requiring immediate remedy." Doug Daily committed fraudulent misrepresentation on this sales contract by not only writing on it but also writing a bogus reason as to why the install needed to be completed on the next day. He wrote that the situation requiring immediate remedy was due to "Emergency Heat". Meanwhile, we are currently experiencing 80 degree weather outside and are certainly not in an "emergency heat" situation. In short, Doug Daily bamboozled my grandmother into waiving the right to cancel under false pretenses and scared her into thinking she was in an emergency situation. Doug Daily also promised my grandmother that Horizon would hook up my gas dryer, yet he did not send a licensed plumber to do the job and instead had 3 young men who had no experience in hooking up this appliance fend for themselves as they tried to figure it out. My gas dryer is now poorly installed with 25 feet of vent hose going across my basement, connected to plastic, venting outside 25 feet away from the dryer itself. They could have chosen a 5 foot path to the nearest exterior wall but instead performed a faulty install. I have had three different professionals in the industry look at what was installed by Horizon and the price Horizon charged my grandmother. They noted that the workmanship was faulty: the vents have holes where air is escaping, holes in mortar have not been sealed properly, and Horizon did a poor job of hooking up the gas dryer. Every single professional in the industry was shocked and appalled by the price my grandmother paid. My 90 year old grandmother was bullied and scared into thinking she had to immediately replace the heater at an astronomical cost to avoid putting her family in danger of carbon monoxide poisoning and possible combustion from the chimney, so she wrote a check in the amount of 9,133.00 to Horizon on 9/25/13. If they do not refund my grandmother the full price of$ 9,133 dollars, I will continue my process of seeking recourse with small claims court, the state's Attorney General, the BBB, reporting their fraudulent practices on every consumer awareness website imaginable, and alerting the Area Agencies on Aging of Horizon's elder abuse.

Recently had a sensor issue with our furnace. Called Horizon, the tech came out and after looking at the furnace for no more than 2 minutes, said there were hairline cracks in the heat exchanger and he couldn't work on the sensor. He said replacement of the heat exchanger would run about $2500. The furnace is 14 yrs old so we decided to have a salesman come out and discuss a new unit. In the meantime, we called another company to have their salesman give us a bid. Company #2 did not inspect the furnace as I had told him it just needed to be replaced. Their bid for the unit was $4900 and $1000 if we just decided to replace the heat exchanger. Horizon's guy came that same night. His bid to replace to the unit was $8300! I told him of company #2's bid of $4900 and he matched it. On the spot came down $3400! That coupled with the $1500 discrepancy on replacement of the heat exchanger, really got me thinking. He also said he'd throw in a new water heater for half price at $900. Half price - are you kidding me? Company #3 came three days later. Did a full inspection and guess what? No cracks were found in the heat exchanger. $135 later, I have a fully functioning furnace. And company #3's bid on the water heater $875 installed. When I told him of the half price offer of $900, he burst out laughing.Talk about a company really trying to take advantage of a homeowner in a bind. Good Grief!

I recently learned that the price of the unit replacement that they charge you could cost you a lot. Make sure you check the price of the unit replacement and get a second opinion before you have their services. I have been a member of their service for a while, but I recently found the truth.
Back in 4/4/2012, during the maintenance, the technician replaced the dual capacitor (2nd floor A/C) for $157.50 (member rate). Since it is done during maintenance, there will be no dispatch fee ($79.50).
On 7/9/2012, my 1fst floor A/C was broken. I called them and got the appointment the next day (8pm). The technician (Mark Anderson) came right on time and found out the problem right away. My problem starts when he quoted the cost to replace the dual capacitor for my 1st floor A/C for $379.09. At that time, I was not even suspicious since he was nice and knowledgeable just like every other technician from this company. He said that is the price for that replacement unit. Had it done during the maintenance, I won't be charged for the dispatch fee. He had to order it and come back the next day (7/11). I made the call questioning on why the price is more than double this time and here are couple of their responses.
1. (From the service manager), I can explain to you. That is because it needs to be replaced not during the maintenance call (in my mind: WHAT?? Are you serious??). Later on, he wanted to settle with $157.50 with the dispatch fee, but I said no thanks.
2. (Other responses): That is because you got a different brand (my answer: no. I know both my A/C units are RUUD).

I regret that I have bought EZ Traps and humidifier for both my units from them. Probably they also charge quite a lot on those (I don't want to look at the past anymore). All what I am trying to say, just be careful with the replacement cost or service that they will charge you and try to get a second opinion. Thanks.

My gas furnace did not start up. I had replaced my old analog thermostat with a new digital thermostat a few years ago with no problems. I am familiar with the workings of my gas furnace, and replaced my hot surface ignitor with a new one but this was not the cause. So I called Horizon to come fix whatever the problem could be. The technician could not get the furnace to start, so he bypasses the thermostat by rewiring the furnace, and the furnace starts. He then examines my heat exchanger and notices very small cracks. At this point he stops all work and states he cannot do anything else to fix my furnace because it is company policy to not get my furnace in working condition until I replace the cracked heat exchanger due to possible CO poisoning. I have several problems with this. First, my very tiny cracked heat exchanger in no way is related to why my furnace is not starting. In fact, many people now who have old furnaces greater than 15 yrs old are using their furnace with cracked heat exchangers. Second, the assumption that cracked heat exchangers lead to elevated CO levels in the home is wrong. I have CO detectors all over my house and none have gone off. Also the technician did not have any CO meter and did not take any measurements to verify his assumption. Third, he quotes me $300 to replace my thermostat with a new analog one and $1700 to replace my heat exchanger. Seeing that I have replaced my own thermostat, a digital one at that, for less than $50, this is outrageous. I paid my showup fee to Horizon and told the technician to get out. Afterwards I fixed my problem by replacing my induced draft motor, which was the real cause of my problem. Horizon is overrated. Look closely at the bad reviews online and you will conclude that these guys play on your fear and overcharge you and tell you that you need replacements that are not needed. So beware, they are con-artists of the highest caliber.

All went bad for us when we needed horizon most. We had a plumber for horizon out to look at a pump we have running from a basement bathroom to an outside pump that runs to the main sewer line. The plumber had no idea what to do. He messed with some settings on the electrical box and left with our manual for the pump saying he needed to do more research. A week later we still hadnt heard back. I called. They said they would have to contact the individual plumber. While I was waiting something horribly went wrong with the main pump and sewage flooded my basement. I called Horizon to come out. This was Friday evening. They said they could not send someone until Sunday the following day. Keep in mind my basement is flooded with sewage. I thought the service contract I was paying was so they would be available.

When they arrived on saturday (this time a different plumber) he had no idea what to do. Saying he would contact the previous plumber and get back to me on MONDAY! Not only is that unacceptable but no one even called back on Monday. So I brought someone else in to fix the pump outside and help with the flooded basement.

After numerous calls to the Horizon Service department I finally was able to talk to someone. They informed me they lost my pump manual and would cancel my contract. So you pay an annual fee, they come to your house, possible cause more problems but at the very least cant solve the problem and now they want out. This was a couple weeks ago. So what prompted me to speak out and write the review? Friday they charged me my annual service contract despite me canceling it and them being unable to solve my problems.

So now I am out almost $9000 for all these problems and they are trying to charge me $170 more? Amazing. Horrible company. Stay away.

The person who came to our house was very polite and knowledgeable. He explained what he found and how he was going to fix it. He also showed me what he did when he finished. He explained the company's fees and the papers I needed to sign. He also looked over the other pipes and my hot water heater and assured me that there were no more visible leaks, which I greatly appreciated. I was very pleased with my experience with Horizon Services and will call them again for future needs.

They installed our sewer and many of our neighbors. The men were polite and did a quick efficient job. All men was cleaned up, the yard was put back in order, and there was little disruption of service.

Some friends of mine had purchased their air conditioning system from Horizon and raved about the quality of service. So I decided to use them for plumbing services when my bathroom sink needed repair. They were a joy to work with--much better than any other plumbing company I've ever used. They arrived on time. The plumber was extremely courteous and attentive. He quickly analyzed the problem, explained my options and quoted me a price that was more than fair. He did an excellent job fixing my sink and it's been working like a charm ever since. They delivered their money's worth and more. I would recommend Horizon Services to anyone and plan to use them this summer to service my air conditioner.
