Sandra Gelbard, MD

I agree with the great reviews of Dr. Sandra Gelbard, she is amazing. Two friends referred me to her (they have been patients for years) and I had such a positive experience I have sent two co-workers who are also now big fans.

It's obvious that she cares about her patients. During my physical I just went on and on about the smallest worries and she listened and responded thoughtfully to everything! She didnt make me feel rushed at all. I had been looking for an internist since moving back to NYC 4 years ago and have never come close to finding someone like Dr. Gelbard. Also, when you have an urgent issue she is completely accessible.

The office is beautiful, clean and in a very convenient location. Best of all, her practice prides themselves on a very short wait time. They schedule on patient an hour, which is unheard of in this city. I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my appointment!

I came to see Dr Gelbrad after being sticken by an unusual condition- and had no idea what it was. I had otherwise been completely healthy, so I had very little need to see a doctor and just went to HMO's for a yearly exam. Dr Gelbard was terrific, spending over an hour with me on each visit, drilling down and doing tests to determine what was wrong, sending me to other specialists she knew when warrented. She kept on top of my situation, and was determined to solve this and make me feel better. Over several months of this kind of attention, my condition improved and I am now enjoying my healthy lifestyle again! Dr Gelbard makes herself available to her patients, so you do not have to wait weeks to get in, or long hours when you get there. She will make good recommendations on how to improve your lifestyle to maintain optimal health, and has a terrific bedside manner. Importantly, Dr Gelbard will also coordinate care with other specialists, and in my view she is the consumate professional, someone who I completely trust with my most impotant asset- my health!

I heard about Dr Gelbard from the new book, "Mrs Astor Regrets", where it tells of how she really helped her in her last years. I had needed to switch a younger, more up to date doctor, so I thought I would give her a try. She was so thorough and easy to talk to. Things that had previously been brushed off by my other doctors, were really paid attention to by Dr Gelbard. I have never had a doctor who was so thorough and always available for my calls. Her vitamins are amazing and they really have helped my hair and nails.

Dr Gelbard is truly one in a million. All you have to do is go for one visit and you realize how different the experience is. She actually spends an hour or more with you. It is all one on one. There are no physician assistants or nurse practitioners. When you make an appointment with the doctor - you actually spend the entire visit with the doctor!
I went to her on the referral of one of my coworker, who had a cholesterol and weight problem and got great results with Dr Gelbard. As of now, I have lost 18lbs with Dr Gelbard and she has been able to take me off my cholesterol medications. I am taking her cholesterol lowering supplements and they are doing great. I feel so much better.
In addition, my 86 year old father in Florida got sick and I called Dr Gelbard to get her impression of the medical treatment. Not only did she spend an ample amount of time on the phone with me, but she then called my fathers lung specialist down there to make sure things were on track. I have never come across a doctor who cares so much and I would never go back to using any other doctor.

I went to see Dr Gelbard upon the urging of my family. My parents, aunt, uncle and cousin are all patients of hers. I dont particularly like going to doctors and hadnt been in over 3 years. I am 26 years old, an avid runner, and overall in great health. I went to appease my mother, who really wanted me to do Dr Gelbards Annual Executive Health physical, which checks for every ailment under the sun.
To my surprise, after the results of the extensive labwork came back, my vitamin D levels were virtually zero. I started taking her multivitamins and now they are normal. I didnt really how serious of an issue this was but after she explained it and I did more of my own reseach, I realize how likely it would have turned into osteoporosis after years and years of no Vitamin D. I would have never picked this up if it werent for her thorough visit.
I normally avoid doctors at all costs, but I have to say Dr Gelbard put me at ease right away. She is a great listener, never makes you feel rushed and just seems to really love what she does.

Pros: Loves what she does, Spends Lots of time, Great Prevention program

The office is beautiful and the staff was great. This was very important to me because I previously had a doctor, who I liked, but hated the staff. In addition, there was always a minimum of an hour long wait. I went to Dr Gelbard after seeing her on television speak about her vitamin line and her plan for disease prevention. She came across as personable, friendly and seemed extremely knowledgable. When I met her, I was not disappointed. She sat with me for over a half hour before even bringing me in for my exam!!! I had never had a physician spend so much time with me. I had written down 12 questions beforehand and she listened to each one carefully. She doesnt take my insurance, but they submitted it for me and I got back 80%. Either way, I really would not have cared. You get what you pay for, and having someone go over all my health concerns in a relaxed, unrushed environment, is worth every penny.

I went to see Dr Sandra Gelbard for the first time about 6 mos ago. I was referred to her by another physician. I had been to multiple doctors, but no one could figure out what was going on. Dr Gelbard spent a full hour with me my first visit. For the first time, I felt really heard. She sat and talked to me for about a half hour before we even went into the examing room. She is very easy to talk to and you feel as though she really cares. She diagnosed me with an unusual thyroid problem and now I am on medication and completely back to normal.
I have also been taking her multivitamins and feel better than ever.
She is always available to take my calls, answer my questions, and I am so thankful I found her. I could not recommend her more highly.

Pros: Super Competent, Caring, Easy to Talk to, Beautiful Office

Cons: Office on 10th floor, not on ground level

I couldn't disagree more with the above reviews. The treatment itself was decent, but I felt an air of superiority and snottiness. Quite honestly I can't even put my finger on what it was, but I felt like this woman thought she was too good for people. I want a doctor who treats me as an equal human being. My 2 cents.

Dr. Gelbard is extremely competent, intelligent and compassionate, and is up to date on all the latest research in medicine. I've been to see her for both check ups and when I've been ill, and both times she is very thorough and really takes the time to talk about your overall health, whereas many other doctors just usher you in and out as quickly as possible. She has a genuine human touch and extremely kind bedside manner, both of which are not qualities I have found in many doctors here in NYC. She also has a fantastic line of vitamins I have been taking -- and I feel great. I feel extremely confident and comfortable entrusting Dr. Gelbard with my overall health.

Pros: Kind, intelligent and well informed medical care, excellent vitamin line

Cons: Very air conditioned waiting room and offices in the whole building... bring a sweater in warm months!

Dr Gelbard was referred to me by a family friend, who is a top doctor at NYU - where Dr Gelbard trained. I have a long family history of cholesterol issues, which Dr. Gelbard specializes in. I was especially impressed by the amount of time she took listening to the details of my medical history. I have never written a review for anyone, but I was really struck by how much she seemed to really care.
She put me on a diet and excersize regimen and my numbers have come down substantially. I feel great and highly recommend this doctor!

I saw Dr Gelbard for the first time in March and was very pleased with the entire experience. She has a calm bedside manner & seemed extremely knowledgable. What I specifically liked was that after my physical exam she took the time to sit with me in her private office and answer any questions I had. I felt like she cared about me, unlike MDs I had seen in the past, I did not feel rushed at all. I would highly recommed her & will definitely return.

I was looking for a new Dr. in midtown in close proximity to my office on 57th Street. I came across Dr. Gelbard and found her 59th street location convenient. I was very impressed with the Dr. and the office set up. Very caring and professional, Dr. Gelbard took time to review my medical history and answer all of my questions. I was also pleased with the no rush environment as the Dr. spent ample time with me and I did not feel rushed. This is a rarity today. The office staff was also pleasant and efficient.

I would highly recommend this Dr.
