Like to go here with the wife, and sometimes the family (for larger outings). The food is respectable, but what I really enjoy here is the vibe. Its very endearing - and I like that they know us by name too. It always feels great to know that your business is appreciated somewhere.

We had a wonderful experience at The Fish. The sushi was fresh and flavors were bursting. Our waiter was right on without being obnoxious. I cant say enough good about it.

I am not ready to say that The Fish has the best sushi in town, because I didn't sit at the sushi bar, and I didn't order any nigiri.

I will say that it offers an amazing dining experience, one of the best I've had in Dallas. The decor is gorgeous but not overpowering, the service friendly, prompt and professional, and the food outstanding. The seaweed salad had a delicate flavor and just the right texture - not a bit soggy or limp. The makimono were creative, well constructed and tasty. Two very non traditional rolls (the Ribeye Roll and the Caliente) were astonishingly good - worth writing home about.

I was very happy with this restaurant and am already planning my next visit. It will definitely be on my list of places to take out of town guests as well as local friends.

Cons: the darn red menus are almost impossible to read

I had been dying to try the Fish ever since they opened. I finally had my chance the other night. The restaurant's interior is beautiful. I thought the food was average at best. I had a spicy tuna roll and did not think it was spicy. I even asked for spicy mayo so that it tasted better. I had shrimp and veggie tempura and the shrimp was plump, large, and very good. The tempura was good but I like anything fried. My husband had a chicken appetizer and he said it was very bland. If we ever return it will be for the atmosphere and a drink and not likely the food.

Lets be realistic...you are not going to find some of the freshest raw sea food in Texas unless you pay an arm and a leg.
I had an order to go, and asked for white tuna sashimi. I was then greeted with white tuna tataki (seared) which tasted slightly fishy, and had faint pink in it. White tuna is supposed to be fresh and creamy tasty, which this was not.
Their age dofu tasted great, and I tried a spicy tuna roll, which was probably the best thing I had. The sea diver roll had hamachi (yellowtail) and eel. The yellowtail could have been fresher, the eel tasted good. Creative looking rolls wrapped perfectly, with the right amount of rice was a plus.

All in all, I don't think this is a bad place. The prices are somewhat fair, but the freshness is lacking. That is something that is hard to find in Dallas for a reasonable price.
Having said that I would not go back and order off the raw menu, I would probably explore the cooked items.

I went here for my birthday on Saturday night, and it was absolutely amazing. First, I completely procrastinated and made reservations that same day for 8 people, and they were more than accomodating on the phone. The reservations were for 7:30, but we were running late and didn't arrive until 8:30!! They were still very polite and sat our party within 5 mintues. The atmosphere was great, beautiful decor on the inside. After ordering, we had two more people stop by and surprise us, but the staff had no problem bring another small table over and more chairs. The service was great, the food was great, and I'm glad I ended up there on my birthday. I have no complaints!! Can't wait to back!

Great atmosphere, great food, great service!!! best sushi in dallas for sure!! in response to the comment by "the fish stinks", i personally know the owners from my days in houston. FACT: the original fish in midtown houston started the whole upscale sushi trend when it opened in 2002....so i laugh when a comment says the fish isn't up to par with all the upscale sushi places in dallas when the fish arguably started the whole trend in the state of texas...go and see for urself!!!!

I Dined at The Fish sushi restaurant the other weekend and had a great time at the sushi bar. The sushi chef was very helpful with my order since I am a new sushi eater. In the end, I just let them order the food for me and they made sushi experience fabulous. They even prepared sushi that wasn't even on the menu. Next time I'll just have the chef prepare everything without a menu. If you want a great meal, EAT AT THE SUSHI BAR at the fish :) !!! (At least if you don't know what you are doing)

This is possibly the worse sushi restaurant in Dallas. The food is good enough, but the service is straight out of a small family owned Vietnamese restaurant where they only have one waitress who is also the dishwasher, and when you go in, the extended family of the owner is always hanging out in a corner with their 5 small children. The guy next to you at the sushi bar is also one of the cooks, and inbetween eating his dinner, he is taking your order and jumping up and down to help you. We've all had the experience. You know what I'm talking about. By the end of my meal, I could tell that "The Fish" was indeed run by some unprofessional people who weren't quite ready to take on the type of upscale sushi bar in Uptown Dallas.

The Fish has the best sushi in Dallas. There are many innovative and delicious new options such as the Rib Eye Rolls (delicious!) and even the standard offerings such as the California Rolls are exceptional. The decor is lush and yet still seems intimate, and the staff is attentive but not intrusive. The waiters are knowledgeable and offer great suggestions if you want to try something new. The location is convenient and very accessible. Just when I thought the restaurants in Dallas couldn't get any better, we get The Fish. Try it - You'll like it.

In my near weekly experiences at this well kept Dallas secret some of the greatest attributes of the Fish are their high quality of food, diversity of dishes, and customer service. General Manager Danny Kim?s primary focus is how to please their patrons. He is constantly changing and evolving their menu to include new and exciting dishes at his clients? request. He always keeps their most popular dishes, but is continuously adding new dishes to the line up as a constant way to please their clients? pallets.

The Service is second to none in this modern and cozy restaurant. No matter how busy they are ? from full occupancy to late afternoon lunch ? I always feel as though I am the only table in the restaurant. This is a quality that is seldom found in the service industry today.

If you are looking for a warm and inviting sushi house in the Dallas area with high quality food and excellent service, then you should drop in. This restaurant is a must try for all Fish and Sushi Lovers!!

Gotta try this place! Best sushi in town. Even if you don't like sushi, The Fish has a number "flamed" entrees to choose from. I suggest the tenderloin rolls or the "spider trio". You can't miss with any of the menu items!
The wine list is very diverse. You won't find the boring, same old selection of name brands on the list. What you will find is a great selection of small, boutique style wines that are not found everywhere. They have a wide range of styles and prices. What I liked most about the wine list was the broad range of by the glass selections.
The service was spot on. Very helpful for menu selections as well as wine.
Do yourself a favor and try this place. You won't regret it!!

Love this place! Great decor, ambiance and service- and of course to top it all off- the food! Great fun for family dining, fun with friends or a stop after some rigorous shopping nearby! The sushi, which is fresh and unique, can?t be beat in Dallas and the bar is great for drinks with friends. The patio area also offers the option of outdoor dining!

In a city of competitive sushi restaurants The Fish scores on all levels from presentation to taste. It offers sushi on a different level than the other places like tei tei. Meaning that I consider it to be the only place to stay true to sushi. Not to mention that Texas Monthly praised its non sushi dishs as well. I take clients to the Fish all the time because I can please both the elite sushi palette and non sushi lovers.

This is definitely THE place to be! This is a GREAT social dining experience! The decor and people are fabulous!
The service was excellent! Very friendly waitstaff!
The seafood was very fresh! My friend had the ribeye rolls and loved them. We've tried many sushi restaurants and this is by far the tastiest. There is something on the menu for everyone! You don't even need to like sushi to have a great time and great food!

Fabulous! Every aspect of The Fish is impeccable. Being a traveler and living in NYC, I know good food and this is great! We tried a little of everything on the menu and everything was amazing. Do not miss out on the "Hot Rock" - it is the most delicious (and fun!) kobe/angus beef you will ever try.

The service was excellent - the waiter was a pleasure and our food arrived quickly. The presentation was beautiful, of course.

Do make sure you make reservations for a booth. It's worth it. And if you are looking to try a great drink - go for the Pomagranate Mojito - it's not your mother's mojito!

Have you tried this sushi location for lunch? I went to this sushi restaurant yesterday for a business appointment and found the booth that we sat in to have a nice large square we could spread out in while working AND eating sushi! The service was impeccable! The bento box looked like a food shot out of a magazine and the sushi and tempura tasted even better! We had a side of California roll that was a generous portion for a sushi lunch menu and it was a great sushi value. If you are thinking elegant business lunch at a reasonable price with a low noise volume for a business lunch environment, this is it. The secret is out! I have discovered the perfect business lunch location AND sushi location! Thank you

PS, the manager told me they are going to start a- ?you call it? $3.00 ALL DAY SUNDAY Happy hour ? happy day! WOW!

This is a very good and cool sushi fish restaurant. They have a huge aquarium behind the bar, and the decor is great. All the sushi we had was very good, and we enjoyed the service. It is moderately price, and my wife and I spent $80+/- including food and beers. Overall, I though it was very good.

After reading the review in the Dallas Morning News, I had to try it out for myself. Hidden away in the new development of West Village, I was pleasantly surprised. I've dined at Nobu, Steel, and the other high end sushi bars and The Fish ranks up there with the others. One advantage for The Fish is that their price points are lower than the other sushi establishments. We had the appetizers that were in the Morning News and some specialty rolls. The Shoi roll was AMAZING!!! Aside from being in difficult location, The Fish will be a staple for Dallas. Try it out!!

To be frank, I would be upset to be the owner of the restaurant and if I were the owner I would definitely do some closet cleaning from the service to management. My glass was cracked and the GM looked at me and simply said "It happens." I felt disillusioned by how cold he was towards the situation. The hot food took a lengthy amount of time and the sushi took even longer. To top that off it was all average. The Fish is beautifully designed but unfortunately a waste because the food and management failed to compliment it. The service was acceptable. Though she wasn't as knowledgeable as a server should be in this type of establishment, she was humble, kind, and sincere. I cannot reiterate how rude and ignorant the GM, who apparently is the only manager in the restaurant, was. Not only was he cold to my group and I, I overheard his verbal abuse toward our server. Nobody in any circumstance deserved to be treated or spoken to in that manner. To give this review a bit of credibility I am in fact an editor for a widely read food and wine publication in Dallas. The Fish does offer a beautiful and attractive lounge that is tended to wonderfully. The bartenders are very charismatic and most importantly make outstanding cocktails. So my advice is to enjoy The Fish for it's ambiance it can provide and for it's lounge which is perfect for an intimate and romantic rendezvous. The Fish is not a place to impress your personal V.I.P.'s however because the place lacks the ability to provide V.I.P. service. To give The Fish the benefit of the doubt I have dined with them 3 times. The first was lousy period. The second was average. The third was entertaining because of the shock value it provided on a Saturday night--watching the staff succumb to the overwhelming pressure to provide for their guests. As one might be able to assume, my unpleasant experiences motivate me to protect the public not to defame an establishment.

I have eaten here a few times, and have always had the best service. The food is always great, served promptly, and priced about right for the area. The decor is wonderful, the atmosphere is great, and the whole experience is always great. I enjoy the tiger eye and alaskan rolls. The drinks are well pored, never weak, and I always have fun.

Hip and sleek, this new sushi restaurant takes the traditional art of sushi to another level. It?s no wonder all of these reviews are 5 stars. It?s hip, but not too hip. Priced fair , as a sushi bar should be. The display of the freshest sushi I have ever had and so beautifully presented, you simply look at it for a minute to admire the chefs work. Located in Uptown, it?s easy to get to from anywhere. They have a private room as well, so it?s perfect for a special occasion or business meeting in the most tasteful setting. Put on a dress or come as you are and indulge in some sushi that the other restaurants in Dallas should take a few lessons from.

This is the best sushi restaurant I have been to in Dallas! Only open for three months now.......it's a must try! The display of the food is amazing, the fish practically swam to my table it was so fresh and the service superb! Unlike the noisy crowds at Kenichi and the prices at Nobu, this has the perfect balance of price, presentation, seating, and variety. If you are looking for pan Asian, sushi, Japanese, Chinese ( not as healthy folks) or Thai, I highly recommend you take the healthy choice first and try The fish. It?s address is on Mckinney, but it sits on the cross street City place west. By the way they have a late crowd so if you are looking for a more subdued dinner go before 8:30. What are you waiting for? You are reading this because you wanted Sushi right? Go now :)

Go now :)

Pros: Great layout and service!

Cons: A little hard to find, it's on the cross street not Mckinney

I've been to The Fish a few times and every time was a wonderful experience. The specialty rolls are great and the sashimi is really fresh. Try the Binnaga Tataki, or the Applewood Smoked Salmon. If you're not a big sushi fan the kitchen dishes are just as good. The Silver Cod and the Ribeye Rolls are awesome.

The Fish in West Village was an appreciated breath of fresh air, a tasty and new way to satisfy my cravings for some respectable sushi. The food was so creative, fun, and delicious. The scallops that are seared to perfection and topped with a burre blanc sauce were ridiculously savory. The sashimi was probably the strength of the meal, very fresh, very beautifully presented. Super Toro is second to no one. The Aji Seto, mackerel to my understanding, was a very clean taste with a nice hint of ginger. The mackeral was my favorite; I had never had anything like it. The service is very inviting, warming, and attentive to the intangibles i.e. carrying my drink from the bar to my table. Far from a stiff vibe from the staff. Sensual atmosphere and attractive decor. The Fish is complete (except u guys need a damn sign!). Definite future for this type of place!

Pros: Food, service, ambiance, valet.

Cons: Signage for the place and to the restroom.

I have been several times since The Fish opened in late July, and every meal has been excellent. The sushi and sashimi are very fresh and beautifully presented. The beef short ribs and steak cooked on a hot rock are also outstanding. It also has a very good wine and saki list. The restaurant decor is very sophisticated without being overly formal.
Since they do not have a sign up yet it can be a little difficult to find, but it is worth the effort. It is across McKinney Avenue from the West Village in the same building with Brooks Brothers just south of the Hank Haney Golf Center. You can park in the garage behind Borders Books or valet.

The Fish was an excellent choice for my husband and I to visit. The food was delicious (try the Cheeseburger roll or the sea bass) and the service was great-- they were professional but not stuffy or stuck-up. My only complaint- the restaurant is hard to find, it's in the middle of West Village and there are no signs (at least not when I was there)!!! Prices were a little steep, but competitive with the other upscale sushi joints around (Steel & Kenichi are even pricier)... Also, the bar scene is pretty and pretty nice on the weekends.

Pros: Amazing food, friendly staff, beautiful location & interior
