Brother Jimmy's brings good times and North Carolina style 'cue to the Upper East Side. All the Barbecue is slow smoked in-house over hickory wood. The ribs come in three varieties: Northern (sweet), Southern (spicy) and dry rub. Pulled Pork, Smoked Brisket, BBQ Chicken, hush puppies and frickles are a few of the signature items they serve.
A fun line of specialty cocktails and a very active bar scene make Brother Jimmy's more then just another BBQ restaurant.
In Short Opened by Duke and UNC alumni, this barbecue joint and sports bar gives nostalgic college grads a little Southern comfort, especially on game days. Diners seeking ribs, sliced-beef sandwiches, and popcorn shrimp sit at red-and-white-checked tables in the small front area, while drinkers congregate further back amid university paraphernalia and 17 TVs. Loud rock and country make conversation a challenge, but guests stuffing themselves with brisket, burgers, fried pickles and baked beans hardly seem concerned.
Brother Jimmy's is a great spot to get some drinks after a hard day of work. Love the atmosphere and people. BBQ food is out of this world, steak tips and wings are great.

I went here and the food was great. The service was a little slow, but since i was with several people, i guess i could see why. there was an upstairs for more seating, and there was a bar and a few tables downstairs. Food was great.

Bbq at its best. You'll have a greasy good time at Jimmy's. The food is great and sticky and you'll have plenty to look at. The atmosphere provides a perfect social setting. Go on a weekend and have a blast!

Terrible
By lizzyred8
This place is terrible. I've eaten in numerous times, as well as ordered take-out. The food has no taste, and for bbq thats just ridiculous. Luckily, they provide marinades on the table for you to apply at your leisure. I have been consistently disappointed here, and have gotten to the point where I will eat nearly anywhere else. O, and the free fishbowl, despite being free, is not worth it - its pretty gross.

Bad Service
By maribel1081
Went to this location on friday and had no service at all. A friend and I arrived around 830p and were told there was a short wait to be seated. We had no problem waiting since it was a little crowded. We waited about 10 min and were excited to be seated so quickly. Everything went downhill from there! We waited 15 min as waitresses passed our table to serve other customers. I tried to be patient but after a table of 5 that was seated after us was served I got up and spoke to the Hostess who apologized and told me she would get someone to us. Waited another 10 min and then left without anyone even taking our drink order after 30min! Thankfully we then went to the 92nd & 3rd Brother Jimmy's Bait Shack and the service & food was Great. I recommend skipping this location and going to 92nd, even though its a little far you won't regret it.

Ugh...

I know how much most people have food snobs who bash their favorite restaurants, but the food here is a disgrace to Southern cooking. Given the poverty and lack of industrialization of much of the South's history - the cuisine tends to emphasize cheap ingredients cooked very simply. Fried chicken, bbq, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, etc. - nothing fancy or expensive here.
Given such a low hurdle to jump over, Jimmy's BBQ fails abysmally. Crunchy food comes out soggy, hot food comes out cold, and everything tastes awful. I'll give two stars since the service was ok, they make some effort in providing an atmosphere (as tacky as it is), and other people seem to enjoy it.
Go to Great Jones cafe if you want good Southern food in the city. Or...anywhere else.

The service is definitely something to rave about...they took care of everything we told them we could n couldn't eat and made sure we would be happy with our choices, and they were absolutely correct...when the dishes came out, we were very pleased....they also have some great desserts....how can u pass up on dessert?
